Ruby 7 Days Cuisine Cantonese Restaurant in South Ayrshire

Popped in for luch while down in Ayr yesterday. Was good value and plenty of choice on the lunch menu, couldn't make my mind up. Fast service and good food, what more could you want ?

Phoned for collection at close to 5pm and were told our food would be ready for collection at 6pm as they were busy... Get there at 6pm, they had never started cooking our food. Had to wait another 30 minutes inside the store waiting for the food to be made. Had ordered a chicken chow mein, house special curry and a hong kong style chicken, came to £25.. the hong kong style chicken was great, but the chicken in the chow mein and the house special was tiny little pieces, was chewey pieces of I think thigh and there was hardly any of it at that. For the length of time we had to wait after the time we were told and the quality of the chicken in the chow mein and house special i can not recommend.. chow mein was mostly full of just onion and noodles and was lucky to have 9 tiny pieces of chicken that even a mouse could swallow in one go. House Special curry had 4 huge prawns, the same issues with the chicken as the chow mein and only one piece of pork. Given the reviews this place had and the price we're really disappointed..

Waited 2 hours for a delivery and by the time we got the food it was far from hot. A bad experience that will definitely put us off ever visiting their restaurant or using their delivery service again.

First time at Ruby 7 days. Booked this restaurant as recommended by colleague. So glad we choose this restaurant for a weekend away with friends. I had chicken noodle soup which was absolutely delicious. Very hot and flavoursome. I had chicken fried rice for main, again, flavoursome, hot with delicious flavours. Service was excellent, served by friendly, professional staff willing to advise and recommend. Very reasonable price. Three friends had two course pre theatre, one bottle of wine and two spirits and coke for £23 per head. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will certainly re visit.

Been taking my family here for over 20 years it never disappoints. Best satay and chicken and sweetcorn soup! Staff are always very friendly. 3 course lunch for under £12 can't complain at that.

Ruby 7 was recommended to us and we've just had a carry-out selection of meals to celebrate a birthday. We are delighted.My personal favourite was the Szechuan beef which was quite spicy but really tender and so tasty. Others raved about the the Thai prawn curry, the roast duck noodles, the lemon chicken, the prawn dumplings, the pork dumplings and the selection of really fresh-tasting starters. This must be the best Chinese restaurant in Ayr. If there's a better one, it's very, very good. Comments below are based on a carry-out.

On arrival we were shown to our seats in a warm and friendly manner.The setting in this restaurant has a warm ambience to it.We ordered..Vegetable spring rolls with a sweet chilli dip.Salt & chilli chicken wings. Chicken & blackbean sauce. Chicken curry. 2 fried rice and washed down with 2 pints of tennents lager.Everything was served promptly and served hot. No complaints with any of the meals at all. Service was good and not to intrusive. Quite a nice wee place. Recommended. 7/10

At our reserved table, we started with chicken satay skewers, bbq ribs...2 ways and veg spring rolls... all delicious and fresh. Next szechuan special chicken, szechuan king prawn, shredded beef and fried chicken Cantonese all with lovely fried rice. Again everything was tasty and good portions for a set menu. Desserts followed and with drinks the bill was £70.... superb

Great value on the early Theatre menu, all food high quality, freshly made, promptly served with a smile. Top class Cantonese cuisine.

Cream of chicken soup was watery and chicken noodle soup contained only a few slivers of chicken. Two pieces of bread were dropped onto our table almost as an after thought.My beef curry was bland and the beef chewy and plastic like. Horrible! Husband's satay started well enough but as with his soup, very little chicken and most of vegetables were left as a result. At around £36 this was a complete disappointment and waste of money.

We are regular diners at Ruby seven days, but on our last visit my wife tried to speak while eating and choked on her food. I could do little to help,but thankfully Lisa,the owner, came to the rescue. She set at work right away using the method of pushing up below the rib cage. After four pushes my wife was able to breath again. A big thank you.

Very accommodating, excellent service and top quality food. This place is very welcoming and is very reasonably priced. I will definitely come here again.

Was out shopping in Ayr, and was in the mood for a Asian meal, and rather than wait until I got home and order from my local Chinese, I thought I would try out Ruby 7, as it has a good reputation in Ayrshire for a good meal.Certainly earned that reputation!For 2pm on a Sunday it was not quiet, but still far from full.Ordered from their lunch time menu a soup, a spring roll and a main dish, and along with two bottles of Asian beer, the bill came to £16, which I thought was excellent value.Fod was freshly prepared in no time, and the portions were quite large, but did not make you feel stuffed.Staff are really nice and will help you with your order.Will most certainly be back again in future.

This restaurant is delightful. Small and intimate, ideal for a romantic evening out. The background music was just right to suit the atmosphere and the staff were amazing, friendly and efficient. The menu was well laid out and the choices were difficult to make, but my partner and I settled for the Kung Po Prawns, Egg fried rice{served in a lovely bamboo steamer},Salt and chilli Squid, plain Chow Mein and a side of Mushrooms. The food was delicious, hot,and plenty of it, so much so, we couldn't eat it all and asked if we could take the uneaten food home. There was no problem with that and it was all packed up nicely in foil boxes. We would thoroughly recommend this superb dining experience.

This is a remarkably friendly and welcoming restaurant whose hosts and servers are delightful and highly skilled in their attention to detail. The menu has a Cantonese focus, however it has a far more interesting seafood section and repertoire of sauces than most local Chinese restaurants. The cooking is excellent: the dishes I experienced were not only generous but also light and, importantly, fresh in taste and feel. The sauces are fragrant and balanced, never sweet or syrupy as can be the case locally. A highlight is the cashew sauce which was magnificent served with duck. I can’t recommend Ruby 7 Days highly enough.

Our last visit to Ruby 7 days was lunch today.We started going over 3 years ago and enjoyed it so much we go every week.The food is varied and all dishes delicious.The staff are so welcoming and service excellent.If you live near Ayr or visit Ayr we would highly recommend this restaurant for a superb meal at a very reasonable price.

Amazing food. Curry tastes great, food always tastes nice and fresh and arrives in a timely manner. One of my favourites.

Passing through Ayr last week we spotted this restaurant. We found it very attractive, and the staff charming and helpful. We enjoyed our meal very much and also the reasonably priced bottle of wine we drank with it. Thank you!.

Visited a few weeks ago. Had a nice reasonably priced pre theatre meal. Unfortunatly my husband got the wrong meal but the waitress immediately apologised and quickly rectified situation.

Arrived without booking and were greeted warmly. Shown to our seats and given a few minutes to peruse the menu. We had a specials menu which had plenty to choose from. The waitress came to take our drinks order and when she brought our drinks took our food order. I wanted to make a slight substitution to my order ( replacing chilli with garlic) and was assured that this was no problem.

Visited for lunch on Hogmanay, had chicken noodle soup, chicken satay and chicken curry. Food was all lovely, quick polite service too. will be back again. Have not been for a good while new decor and food still fab

Sunday night 8.30 pm, looked in and were going to give it a miss as no one else in.

Enjoyed a good lunch. Food was tasty. Chicken satay & fried rice. Hong Kong style sweet & sour chicken. Decent portion. Around £7 per dish with the rice. You could add a starter or dessert for a few £'s more as part of the lunch deal. Quick service which helps when you are on your lunch break.

Ate here last week as Lychees was closed but won’t be back, everything we had was rubbish. A shadow of its former self.

We went to eat at this restaurant last night and had a lovely meal. Food very good. Staff very friendly and knew their job. Lots of other people - lovely atmosphere.

We ate here because we had read Tripadvisor reviews and they were favourable. When we arrived it was very busy which is a good sign in my opinion. We were quickly seated and able to order drinks straight away. The waitress was helpful in advising us that the portions were large so my husband and I were able to share a portion of rice, which was actually huge, and piping hot. Our main courses were also large and delicious, we were much too full for dessert and will surely eat here again if in Ayr again.

We liked the look of the restaurant from the outside and weren't disappointed. We ordered from the pre theatre menu. The food was served piping hot and very tasty. The service was good and the portions just right. We will definitely eat here again when we next visit Ayr.

We would choose to dine out or take away from this restaurant above all the others in the Ayr/Coylton area. We like all the others we have tried, but Ruby 7 Days is the favourite for our tastes. The portions are perfect, the service is excellent and prices reasonable. My husband and I have had many lovely meals in the restaurant, and the service has always been polite and efficient, with meals arriving quickly. We have also driven into Ayr specifically to get a take away from here as the food is that good. Delicious!

Great day in Ayr was finished off with a Chinese meal in Ruby's tonight .. salt and chilli ribs followed by chicken schezan delicious ending with my favourite banana fritters .. great price and lovely friendly service will be back XXX Mrs. Alison Quigg

Tonight I decided to get a takeaway and after reading a few reviews I decided to give here a try, and I am glad we did what a lovely meal.

Ordered a few times now and every time it hasn’t failed to be good. Always hot which is a bit of an issue with take away but food is fresh and tasty

Ordered a takeaway as just had found that ruby 7 do takeaways. Nearly 2 hours for this to be delivered and when I called to ask where this delivery was after 90 minutes 2 staff then decide to laugh about this as she checked when this would be delivered. Oblivious to the fact I could hear this or thinking she had maybe covered the receiver, I am unsure. All together not impressed by this, I won’t be advising anyone to get a delivery due to the time it takes and the way you are responded to if you call to ask anything about the delivery.

We were visiting family and they recommended the Ruby 7 Days for a meal.

After a long flight from South Africa we settled into our guest house and ventured out to find a place to eat. All diners kitchens were closed until we found Ruby's. we all settled on chicken and beef chow mein as this is simple and quick. In a flash our dinner was put down in front of us so as far as service goes you get ten points, the meal itself was one of the better chow meins I have had so another ten points for that. When back in ayr and I feel the need for Cantonese I will definatley return.

Never fails to disappoint, food is always great and staff are always very welcoming. Prices are fab! We have ordered a takeaway a few times delivery always seems to be speedy and the food is always very tasty. Portion sizes are really good as well.

I have visited this restaurant many years ago. Today we went to Ayr And whilst there I remembered a lovely restaurant near the bridge. Anyway found it. Arrived around 6pm had the pre theatre for 2. Very nice for 9.50 two course. Didn't wait long for our starters to arrive followed by our main course. Lovely friendly helpful staff. Well worth a visit if your in Ayr

Overall had a pleasant visit. Food wise usual fare for this type of restaurant with no complaints . Pros - set menu very good value for money , food reasonable and decor nice. Cons - food took a long time to arrive and service very slow toward end of visit despite restaurant being only half full.

Visited today with my husband and his family for lunch.. what can I say it was awful we waited about 30 minutes for our starters then when they arrived we had to send the bbq ribs back as they were cold.. we then waited at least another 45 minutes for our main course which all came out separate and by the time some of us were finished the last meals arrived the main courses were nice enough to eat.. we didn't wait for dessert as we had waited long enough for starter and main meals.. Staff did apologise for our wait however we will not return

Went for a family there were 6 of us we all ordered starters and a main my daughter and i ordered spare ribs they were frozen we then got our mains servered at different time my sisterinlaw got her main and 5 mins after she got her chips my brother ordered chips and he got rice we all started and my daugher was till waiting for hers so think i can say we wont be back as it was a big dissapointment

three courses of very good quality food for 11 pounds. cannot be bad. Friendly staff and bill for six including drinks was less than 115 pounds. Great chinese cuisine and we all had something different and no one was disappointed. Brilliant. Been going there during various owners for 15 years and always satisfied.

Was looking for a place for dinner late on a Sunday evening. Not many places open, but when we walked by this place and noticed they were still open, we opted to stop. Friendly greeting and only one other table occupied at the time. Ordered appetizers to share and they came out quickly and piping hot. Ordered 3 main dishes to share - all were hot and fresh with plenty to share amongst the 4 of us. We were happy with our experience here.

Visited early on Saturday evening. Service was good and staff polite. Food was very good. All cooked freshly and both our main courses were king prawn. These were very good quality. Quite noisy when busy. Will return in future.

My partner and I went past Ruby 7 Days while out a wander and we were pleased to see the Pre Theatre Menu which had a great choice and very good value for money. We both had two courses and a juice and it came to just over £20, the food was really good and hot, served quickly and efficiently! Would recommend and go back

I have always loved ruby 7 even before the renovation. However they have upped their game and the food, service & decor are even better. Service is friendly & efficient. The Peking ribs melt in your mouth, so yummy! The portion sizes are great!

the food well presented and tasty and the lunch special was a good portion and well priced. There were plenty of customers ,which is always a good sign, and the service was pleasant and attentive.

First time back here in a number of years. Noticed that it's been refurbished. Table for 2 given and immediately noticed several tables where diners weren't eating. Drinks orders taken and order taken for food. A 20 minute wait for our starters. Prawn cocktail and chicken noodle soup. Both were okay. I then overheard a a diner asking about her tables food as they'd been waiting 30 minutes. Our mains arrived relatively quickly as a chicken noodle dish and beef Szechuan. Bottle were fine. Total for 2 including 2 soft drinks was £18. Service from the 2 waitresses was poor with no interaction with us. Would I return? No I don't think so.

Well, what can a I say about this place, nothing good whats-so-ever. Waited over 45 minutes for the main course, when we complained, we were told someone phone in sick. I said to the waitress, this is not our problem, she just walked off.Eventually the main course arrived almost cold, Thre of us ordered prawns, what a joke, whatever it was was, they were not prawns, again we complained, nothing done. We just paid the bill and left. As we left the place, the waitress had the cheek to ask if we had evjoyed the meal, four of us replied. no, and will not be back, very poor excuse for a restaurant...Avoid this place at all times...

We have been visiting Ruby's regularly, usually a couple of times a month, since it reopened and the food has always been very good but yesterday it took a nose dive. The chicken satay to start was excellent but when my husbands crispy shredded chicken with fried rice appeared the rice was like a stodgy sticky pile on his plate when he called the waitress over she was really not interested and said that it had been freshly cooked and if she replaced it it would be just the same! to say we were shocked is an understatement. At first my boiled rice appeared ok but the outside part of it was fine but inside was another stodgy pile, then to top it off I found a hair in my honey chicken, which was over flavoured with pepper. All together not a great success for lunch, then to top it off they charged us for the full meal, so needless to say they have lost our custom permanently and I cannot in all conscious recommend the restaurant in any circumstances.

I took my family here the other night and everyone left very happy and really enjoyed every course we were served. Price is very reasonable and food is good. Well worth a visit and I shall be returning soon!

My husband, daughter & I came here last month for our dinner & it was delicious. So we thought we'd come for our lunch. It was really busy & only 2 waiting staff. We had to wait a while even for our order to be taken & it wasn't much better the time we had to wait for our meals. The fried rice was really sticky & clumped together, the meals were not roasting hot when we got them. Was really disappointed in the full meal & the service we got

We visited this restaurant soon after it re-opened and were very disappointed. Having read recent reviews we went back tonight and had a wonderful meal. 3 courses of excellent food for under £10 is hard to beat and the wine was very palatable and again reasonably priced. We will be back.

I haven't been in here for many many years but will not be as long til I go back next time. Place next door was busy so we decided to try here, it was very busy and service was very very slow but the food was well worth waiting for. Crispy shredded chicken was the best I have ever tasted by a long way, it is 3 courses for £9.99 after 6pm so value was amazing, we only had 2 courses due to the wait in between but will definitely go back soon and hopefully service will be a bit better.

8 of us booked in for 18:30, we had arrived at 18:15. On arrival, we said our surname we booked under. You could clearly see they were unhappy, the greater had looked at the clock on more than one occasion then looked at us. Basically if we ordered after 18:30 we would only be allowed to order off the main menu. Well since we ordered before 18:30 we had to be given the cheaper menu, not that price bothered us. I ordered crispy shredded chicken with Peking sauce. Only to receive the sauce in a separate bowl. I have never received it like this. Very odd to my liking. I did also ask for a drink refill on more than one occasion and never received it.

Quick service and pleasant staff.The portions were very good,a think 3 courses was £8 and very tasty,all in all good meal certainly be visiting again.

Had a meal here a couple of nights ago and although there was a little problem with one of our mains, the meal was very good!I will not be scoring it down because of the main course & it did stop us from having a dessert and also from finishing our main. Up until then everything was going very well. Good tasty food.I will try this place again and hopefully next time it will be fault free, if not I will score again!!

Have visited a few times now since restaurant taken over. Food is now much better, place is really clean and spacious. Some of the staff are more helpful than others. Only disappointing thing about this is sometimes the wait can be horrendous , they do not appear to have managed to find a balance of serving in the restaurant and managing take away orders. Overall worth the visit though

My husband, daughter & I came for a meal. Meal was plentiful & delicious & service was good. My only criticism is that although the evening set meals were reasonably priced their soft drinks were overpriced. Although I would definitely go back

Staff were nice but a little shy. Decor nicer than it once was following recent re-refurbishment. Quality of food poor. Smoked chicken starter was clearly taken straight from a bag in the freezer. It was full of little crumbs and cruddy bits. Fried rice exceptionally greasy.

We injoyed a lovely lunch. Friendly attentive staff. We have been going to this restaurant for 28 years. It is vastly improved in decor and food.

Was in Ayr for a couple of days and the better half fancied a Chinese for tea, we noticed this one on the high street on the drive through and parked up and went in, once we seen the prices we were not optimistic for the quality or quantity......... But we were so wrong the food was amazing, I had BBQ ribs for my starter thinking I would get 1 or two microwaved from farm foods. I got a large plate of many tender ribs with the meat falling off the bone. My Girlfriend got a bowl of soup with noodles in it ( don't know what it was). for the main course, she got chicken chow mein and I ordered shredded chilli beef, it came separated from the sauce and with enough rice to feed a family of six. the food was really nice and the desert was Ice cream because we are not a fan of chocolate cake or cake like desserts. All this food (3 courses ) was only £9.99 each. This is amazing value for money and if anyone is within the vicinity go try this place its really good.

Been visiting this place for 5 years or so. Was disappointed when it closed a few years back. Since it reopened in 2015 I have been back regularly. The lunch menu is great value and the food is excellent.

Restaurant has new owners since last we visited. Has been very well done up and is so bright and airy and modern now. Prices very good and lunch deals etc on longer than most places. Young lady and man (staff) we encountered were very smiling and friendly. Starters of salt n chilli chicken wings delicious as I am told was the cream of chicken soup. Choice of rice or chips was appreciated by my husband who prefers chips. We felt that main portions were a little on the small side and I did find my beef dish a little tasteless.(Fried rice a little stodgy) Husband enjoyed his shredded chicken but could have eaten more of it tbh ! Liked being beside window as could watch the hustle and bustle of Ayr ! Will return but do wonder if perhaps a little more choice could be given on menu ?

Excellent Cantonese food, good service, reasonable price, I would say it's the best Chinese restaurant in AYR, don't miss the crispy shredded duck. Cheers!

this is a fine restaurant serving typical chinese food which is tasty and good portion size. the staff are friendly and efficient. prices are fair with meal deals.

Good value for money and the fact it's on all day rather than closing around 2pm is a bonus. Lovely decor inside,staff lovely though they did seem run off their feet,with some not so patient customers in when we were there. Food nice enough

prices were amazing staff are lovely food is outstanding - do deals at lunch and at dinner 2 courses were something around £10:00 was lovely wasn't expecting such a high standard with what we were paying food very fresh and very well presented lovely view out onto the main street very clean and toilets were very clean defo be returning when visiting ayr again.

Lovely 2 or 3 course lunch with generous portions. Cream of chicken soup with crusty bread and a chicken curry with fried rice for me and the soup and chicken and mushrooms for my Mum. Very quick service and piping hot. The lunch menu runs till early evening when the pre-theatre menu starts for a couple of pounds more. Well worth it.

We have eaten in this Chinese restaurant lots of times for their lunch & dinner menus. Everytime we have been the meals have always been delicious. The service quick & great. Would recommend if looking for somewhere to eat while in Ayr

Today was my second visit and I was very pleased with the service and food. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays so should be called 6 days.Internet access is a bonus too.

We,3 adults , had a quick affordable lunch here, food was a bit salty for us, service was average,menu was typical chinese lunch menu,

New owners and unbelievable value and quality. £5.80 for main and an amazing £1.20 starter which for me was succulent prawn cocktail and a beautiful fresh chicken breast satay for my nephew. I was quite full after the £1.20 starter! Main was great too. Not reheated crud but fresh and juicy chicken. My daughter ordered an extra portion of fries but couldn't eat half of her meal. Now, hence the four instead of five star review; we asked to take her half meal in a doggy bag and they wanted 50p for the cheap tin foil container. Spoiled a really positive vibe.

Went out with a friend for pre theatre meal and despite being really busy the service and quality of food was first class. I will br back again soon.

This used to be a fantastic restaurant, but unfortunately it closed for some considerable time, but has now reopened under new management.The food was very good, but the lunch menu pricing was somewhat misleading as large print price only covers a main course, with starters and sweets being an add on at various prices. It looks reasonable compared to other local competition, but the add ons actually make it more expensive

We ventured into Ayr for a change of scenery from Craig Tara and we weren't disappointed.The food was delicious and plentiful and the service was very polite and attentive.Excellent value for money at £8.50 for 2 courses.

The food is always fresh and very tasty. I would prefer a rice bowl and my food in dishes instead of just piled on my plate but despite this I cannot fault the taste of the food at all is lovely and good value.The staff are very attentive and pleasant . My friends and I looked around Ayr for a reasonably priced lunch and saw the menu in the window. It looked good. It was busy, which is a good sign, but we got a table right away. We had soup which included bread and butter and our main courses were generous and tasty. We'll be back. Many thanks to the friendly staff.

While in the area for work I stopped in for an early dinner one night. I opted to eat from the pre-theatre menu, great value 3 course for £9.99, or 2 courses for just over £8. My main meal of Crispy Shredded Chicken with Chilli sauce was delicious, the chicken and sauce are served separately which means the chicken stays crisp and the sauce has a lovely luck to it. My only comment would be that my starter, although a generous portion, was not quite up to the same standard, the Thai spring rolls could have had a bit more filling in them. I was dining alone I found the service really quick and friendly.Many Thanks

Not impressed..no prawn crackers!!! Service slow, wasn't even busy... Wife's food was cold, got changed...but. Stopped coming here a while ago... will stop again.

My last review on this restaurant was in June 2015 when it was reopened under new management. Now, July 2016, the presentation of the meals, the attentive staff and the quality of the food is still just as good!Just simply one of the best restaurants to visit if you're in Ayr!

Called in on spec for an evening meal. The restaurant was clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful and the meal was very good. Will certainly go back and would recommend it to anyone.

Stopped here for some lunch and was not disappointed. The menu gives various pricing options but was really good value in total. Soup was £1, appetisers were £1.20,mains were £5.80 and dessert was £1.20. The choices for each were enough for everyone's tastes. Looking forward to my next visit.
