Chinamoon Restaurant in South Ayrshire

Just had a wonderful Chinese from here, couldn't believe the amount of portions compared to back home in England. Staff were lovely to deal with an price is on spot would recommend anyone from Girvan coming here.

Phoned a carry out order for three of the same meals to be told it would be ready in 30 mins. Arrived at the restaurant about 25 mins later. No customers in the restaurant. I then waited another 20 mins whilst folk came in off the street and were served before asking how much longer…….. eventually after a further 20 mins our meals arrived. No apology nada! The staff/ customer service was appalling and certainly won’t be back - the meal wasn’t that great either.

Absolutely fabulous food served from the China Moon . I have never sat in the restaurant only had take away but have done so on several occasions. Even to the extent of waiting for it to open before leaving at the end of a holiday ,& bringing the takeaway home with me . I absolutely love the chicken curry and I’m really rather particular about Chinese food . I very rarely find one that is as good as my local one but China Moon fits the bill. I always make sure I visit when in Girvan , Maidens or Turnberry , fabulous tasty food .

Stopped here on way to the Ferry at Cairnryan. We were able to sit in. although it was chilly (it was cold night) it was clean. Staff were friendly and the menu was good. I thought the food was good. Bill came to £30 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 sides. No hassle and it was only 40min to the ferry.

We were looking for Fish and Chips, but all the local Chippies were closed. As a last resort we went for Chinese and we weren't disappointed. Fast service. Food was tasty.

Just popped in lovely meal and very reasonable prices young girl serving was very nice didn't have to long to wait for our meal.which was delicious

Had beef and black bean sauce last night Portion was full of peppers. Just too much and beef was very tough. Could only eat a third of it. Very disappointed

We popped in here for a takeaway, they have a large varied menu with plenty to choose from and service was quick. We opted for honey shredded chicken, duck with mushroom and a beef curry, which were all delicious. Only problem was that we ordered 3 chips but only were given 2, we did phone to complain and we were offered a refund and an apology. We would definitely return but maybe sit in next time and try the sunday buffet.

we visited as a family of four, we were the only ones in on a Saturday evening.The menu has no vegetarian options (we had to ask for options) the service was fine, the resraurant was dimly lit and tired, the food was served quickly however portions were really small.The food and drink prices are far too expensive for the portions you get. (£2 for a small water!) The food was generally nice however mine was far too greasy. We all left disappointed and hungry.

My wife and I stopped in here while up on vacation. The food was fantastic and very food quality. Staff were very efficient and friendly.

First visit to China Moon since it changed owners and I have to say the four of us loved our food! We noticed with previous owners things were declining due to young staff being employed that did not have any experience in working in a take away/restaurant which ended up with wrong orders etc so stopped going back. New owners are far better. They take the calls and food orders so no mistakes being made. Look forward to the next take away.

Food was lovely, service was amazing. The staff are so kind and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Called in Sat night 15th Feb to treat my darling to a Valentines / Birthday feast. This restaurant holds happy memories for her since childhood. New managers Queenie and Chris with amazing chef Louise gave my wee darling woman a wonderful warm cheery welcome with spectacular blends of tasty food. to our surprise at one point they dimmed the lights off and came in with a lovely surprise birthday sweet with candle. Perfect service, perfect food, great atmosphere from staff and excellent value for money. We shall visit more often with the new management teams customer service. Quality all round.

We went in on Valentine’s Day, just 3 tables occupied at 7pm, the restaurant was cold and had no atmosphere. Eventually (probably 15 minutes) we were asked if we wanted a drink. Ordered red wine, £4.20 per glass, it came chilled, I had to ask for it to be microwaved to get it to room temperature. I must say that the starters were fine except for the lack of meat on the ribs but the plates were cold. My Main course was tasty but cold plates and a cold restaurant meant that the food went cold quickly. My wife had the king prawn, Hong Kong style, these were actually shrimps with the thickest, soft batter to make then look big. First and last time to go there. A couple that were there when we went in actually left because they had waited so long for food.

Decided to give this place a try on our way back from Ayr. The food was very, very good. Excellent flavors, fresh ingredients and good service. Perhaps our only comment is that portion size was a little smaller than the norm. As we were leaving we got talking to a guy putting in a to go order for the following days lunch !? He mentioned he thought they had new owners and quality was improving We all enjoyed our food.

decided to try for a takeaway. staff were friendly service also very good. but when in kilmarnock go to chinese in bank street curry sauce spicy and first class. came here to try was not impressed with any of the food all average at best but everyone has different taste when comes to spices but not for me.

We were staying near Girvan and earlier in the day picked out China Moon for an evening meal. When we arrived there were no lights on due to a power cut in the area. We expected to be advised the restaurant was closed but no, the manager ushered us in and led us to a table illuminated by candles.We selected drinks and a variety of dishes and everything was served promptly and efficiently despite the dark interior of the restaurant.The service was excellent and all the dishes were very tasty and served together as we'd requested.Just as we were preparing to leave the power cut ended so we could see the premises more easily.I would very much recommend China Moon to anyone visiting the Girvan area.

Firstly sack the two young girls you employ to take phone orders and orders at the front! (Big lassie with straight brown hair and the other skinny one with curly hair). Got my phone order wrong, when I went to collect it my order wasnt there. Big girl said I dont know whats happened.

We are staying a couple of nights in Girvan and after a lovely Indian meal at Yasmines last night, we fancied a Chinese tonight.

Been eating here twice a week for well over a year and I can honestly say the quality of Food and overall customer service has improved tremendously! The staff are extremely friendly and willing to help and answer any questions I may have. The food both sit in and takeaway is beautiful. On a Sunday they have an all you can eat Buffet for £13.99, this is easily the cheapest place to eat in Girvan for the amount and range of food available.

Food from here was very good but it took far too long to come, went in for a chicken curry with fried rice and it took more than 25 minutes. Another customer said he'd been waiting for over 30 minutes, we were both in for takeaway and the restaurant didn't look too busy so maybe they were understaffed, but as I said food was good

I eat here quite often as other 2 chinese carryouts in girvan are very poor , carryout usually good, but I feel it depends on chef,weekends seem to be best,weekdays food can be overcooked,The same Chinese girl always on front off house,her attitude sucks,worst ever ive come across.I overlook it because its handy .

This restraurant used to be spectacular. Unfortunately that’s the only time this word can be used is in the past tense. The “restaurant” with seating for around 30-40 now no longer covers for sit in meals.

Was in girvan at the tattooist and wanted a Chinese meal after the restaurant opened at 4.30 so we waited a short while when we went in the place was empty except for one lady waiting for a takeout,we wanted to sit in and eat but was told we would have to come back because they only did takeout till 6 ,so we said could we sit in and wait .And was told no because the tables which were already laid and clean ,needed cleaning,was again told to come back and we said no ,but could we use the toilet please she said yes .But you could tell she couldn’t wait to get rid of us looking back it was almost as though they had something to hide ,mind you after reading previous reviews glad we didn’t eat there

Fancied takeout after a week of cooking. Wish we hadn't bothered. Ordered a supposedly "spicy" Thai roast duck dish... my girlfriend ordered a different duck dish, and we opted for prawn crackers and coconut jasmine rice to share between us. Shame to say the rice was the best part of the meal. The rest was absolutely disgusting. Both dishes tasted exactly the same...absolutely zero hint of spice, the lemongrass was like chewing raw wood, the duck tasted bland and like it had been cooked 2 or 3 days ago...even the onions and peppers tasted boiled and terrible. Will never order food here again, and will advise everyone to avoid like the plague. Such a shame...first takeaway up here in Scotland and all I could eat was the rice as the left simply made me feel physically sick. Thanks for the warning guys.

my partner went and picked up a meal that we had ordered and brought it home for us and the kids to have. When we arrived home we realised the order was wrong but was still pretty warm so we thought we'd phone and take the meals that were wrong back down and swap for the correct meal. I phoned and asked if this was okay and was told that they did not do this meal we were looking for (which is incorrect as we have this meal every time we order from this establishment). I explained this and I got a mumble in return and was hung up on. I am shocked at the way we have been treated and they have lost a few regular customers thanks to the rude staff member. Very disappointed as most of the staff are lovely however customers don't tend to appreciate being hung up on.

Been here for a buffet on sundays several times throughout 2017 and food was great, service never brilliant but food made up for it. Went here in January at 5pm usual time to be told not doing buffet till 6. Went back at 6 to be told no tables available and yet place was empty. Rang today 29th April to see if buffet available to be told no tables available today as fully booked.

We ordered the set menu for two. Food of average quality. Very pleasant but not outstanding. Disappointed that I was refused a Chinese tea as was told could only have English tea with the set menu. How small minded is that as one tea bag is much the same as another! If you visit and need the loo be sure to have your sun glasses handy to cope with the vivid decor! Staff surly and uncommunicative. Would definitely NOT return.

Food good but staff and service not the best . Stay local stopped going a few years ago but decided to give a another go not changed staff rude and lack knowledge of what’s going on.

Arrived at 5:50 and ordered sharing platter for starter and 2 meals. There was only one other couple in the place. 50 mins later they brought one of the mains. Advised them that we had not even had the starter yet. 5 mins later they brought out another main, just to be sent back again. Finally got starters 1hr after arriving. Mains were reheated so came quickly after starter was finished. The other couple had already sent back their meals twice and had left by now without eating vowing never to return. First and last time we will visit.

Excellent food, suitable for the whole family. The takeaway was delivered in excellent time to our hired caravan.

Nunca hemos comido en este restaurante pero llevar comida cuando estamos en la zona! Es espléndido. Vegetariana y carnívoros por igual me encanta la comida de aquí! Es sólo un poco más que el promedio de realizar!

Así, fuimos aquí se dijo un amigo lo fantástico que era y no me defraudó. Este restaurante es una pequeña joya. No estaba la mesa concurrida sabio (domingo por la noche) pero era sin parar con los pedidos para llevar todo el tiempo que estuvimos allí. El restaurante en sí es un poco descuidado y necesitaría reformas pero estaba limpio y ordenado, y el servicio era excelente aunque un poco loco.

El lugar es muy inusual en distribución tienen que pasar por el bar y la zona de espera para el restaurante principal. Incluso eso era inusual en la mayoría de las mesas eran de 4 o incluso 6 personas. Buena decoración con pintura azul en las sillas de las paredes a juego. Como he dicho un poco peculiar.

Mi madre y yo llegamos a las 13.30 horas, preguntó si estaban todavía sirve almuerzos que informaron que eran. Nos sentamos en una mesa, fue tomada sólo gente allí, nuestras bebidas para luego pedir comida. A unos 5 minutos más tarde, la camarera se acercó y nos preguntó si nos sabemos que el restaurante está cerrado a 2, que nos dijo que no y estamos bien para alojarse, la camarera dijo que sí y luego dijo que probablemente sería mejor dejar! Estábamos conmocionados por el atroz servicio al cliente y sólo pagamos nuestras bebidas y a la izquierda. En retrospectiva, no debería haber pagado por las bebidas, dado que era su culpa por poner nosotros! Nunca volveremos y garantizarán la palabra se extiende.

The only saving grace was the lovely waitress who was run off her feet between taking phone orders, fetching them from the kitchen, serving tables and refreshing drinks etc..Meal was way over-priced and very below average for the Maryland. - no banana fritter or bacon. Noodles were dry and tasteless with no vegetables through them. Sauce was like one from a supermarket.Toilets hot water taps were shut off so had to wash hands in cold water. Corridor to toilets smelt strongly of cigarette smoke halfway down which seemed to be coming from a side room. Décor very dated looking. Would have walked out if not for the really friendly waitress who earned her money. Will not be paying a second visit I'm afraid.

We went here for my Birthday Meal while on holiday. It was a Sunday so they have a special of all you can eat for a set amount. The dishes were slow on coming out so we were not eating at the same time. there was nothing outstanding about the food other than the satay sticks my daughter ordered. My grandaughter who is five was served last with her food. I would not recommend this for a family meal. One of the waitresses was very helpful, the chinese waitress was hopeless and did not understand what we were saying.

My husband and I popped in for our dinner...service was ace...the waitress was so nice and really on the ball with everything...food was brill...the best chinese and thai food we have had in a long time ...Please try this place

Lovely calming venue with first class oriental cuisine both sit in and carry out. Quality staff and great ambience

A very quiet restaurant with colourful & interesting décor. The phone kept ringing with takeaway orders, but we were the only diners until just before we finished eating. There was nothing wrong with the food, but for us it just wasn't special. We had soup, crispy duck & mains, & while not disappointed, it just wasn't memorable. The young waitress however was very pleasant.

Absolutely horrendous place. Took almost an hour to fulfil an order of four meals, then when we got them home, there was no sauce on one of the meals. Called them to get it sorted, was told that we'd have to go and get it ourselves, and that it would be ready for me when I arrived. Took it back , waited for almost 10 minutes while they faffed about, before coming out of the kitchen to ask me what my order was??!!!!! Unbelievable!!! Took a further 15 minutes to make one dish. Have NEVER known service like this. Avoid at all costs

Read the reviews on here and decided to go with the positives and try here last night Upon getting home and opening up the order we were greeted with portions of supposedly fried rice but looked and tasted more like like boiled rice mixed with yellow food colouring The beef curry was tasteless and the beef had a strange gel like coating which made me think it was either off or had been prepared for a different dish but used for the curry The beef in the mixed schezuan was the same as in the curry and the king prawns where shrivelled and had freezer burnThis left only the chips and some chicken balls the only thing the whole family could try and eatOverall I'm very dissapointed with the meal and just wish I had tried the take away up the road

Wife suggested lunch while in Girvan. Won Ton soup chicken curry for me Prawn cocktail and King prawn Chinese mushroom for the boss. All fresh and tasty will certainly visit again.

Only one table occupied when we pitched up, yet we were placed at a table adjacent to a walk-in cupboard which was accesses frequently during our meal. Starters are not value for money. Chicken with ginger and spring onion was notably thin on both named veggies, loaded with white onion and swimming in gravy (not the usual light sauce one would associate with this dish). Claggy boiled rice. Merlot tasted watery and cheap. Bring back the previous owner.

Dreadful food Chicken appears to be from a tin it is disgusting. Staff are very friendly. Probably one of the worst I have had although for Girvan Chinese takeaway it's probably the best. Are the sauces from a packet as they have that taste about them.

This restaurant is well worth visit! Cosy and amazing decor! Food presentation, quality and value for money! Very polite young woman who assisted on my visit to this restaurant with a dear friend! 5 * very satisfied! Happy customers!

I went here once and it was very poor. The food was bad and it was expensive for what it was too. It was £8.50 for each course and yet it was terrible.

My partner and I were staying just outside of Girvan last summer. We were tired and hungry after a long day, it was pouring rain and we couldn't find anywhere else to eat so we went in. It was the best Chinese food we've ever had, the clay pot chicken has ruined any other Chinese meal we've eaten since. Seriously, everything was incredible, please go there now, I live too far to go myself.

The food was delicious and the owners very friendly and funny. And the decor comfortable and interesting.

We arrived quite late Sunday night and got into the restaurant at 9:30 when I think they were preparing to close. However we were accepted with no problems and all 4 of us enjoyed a very nice meal with great service.

Arriving late in Girvan on our way to our holiday cottage we stopped off for a takeaway. Excellent service, not too long a wait, friendly staff, generous portions, lovely food, and there were some extras included in our box of goodies. There was so much food that we had some next day. Highly recommended.

Staff always smiling, and food is always lovely. The only Chinese restaurant I will use! Their Thai menu is lovely and fresh too. Even open on a Monday, when all the others are closed!

my family and I have been a few times the food is lovely and the service is great the staff are extremely attentive and can't do enough for you.The prices are very reasonable especially on a Sunday when you can eat as much as you want for around £14.

Went here as the girls wanted a Chinese dinner. The meal was lovely and there was plenty of it and was nice and fresh. Staff friendly too. Restaurant bit was quiet, but carry out bit was really busy.

Looking for a "fix" and CM satisfied it, albeit no where near London/Manchester quality (nor was I expecting it to be). Pricey but convenient. Portions small for prices.Flavors Anglicized but not surprising.

myself and my friend dined in it was my first time . we were the only customers . we had a chicken curry and a chicken and pineapple. .the meal was average flavour was ok but it wasn't very warm.I thought the décor (though colourful) seemed was a bit tired. I don't live in the area so not sure if I would return when in the area!

Ate here on the Sunday, they do a special all you can eat deal on a Sunday, which is great if you want to try different dishes.

We stayed at Brunston Castle which is a 2 mile journey from Girvan. Before ordering our food over the phone my husband asked if they could deliver the food as it wasnt local. They said it was ok, and the driver would phone us when he arrived at reception with the food. Sure enough he was there in 15 mins. The starters and main were the tastiest chinese takeaway we have eaten.The portions were of good quantity. Would recommend without a doubt to everyone.

Very nice meals and service is good takeaway is good and portions are a great size. Open Sunday on special menu but the is very small portions you can ask for more but I don't think it is good value for the price

Went here whilst staying at a nearby caravan site. We had food from the Thai menu very tasty. The service was good and price reasonable. The waitress asked if we knew any young children, we were going to be visiting my 2 year old granddaughter so we said yes and she gave us a pink balloon. Unfortunately my granddaughter burst the balloon then tried to "mend it" by putting the 2 pieces back together but that's another story. We paid £47.00 for sharing starters, mains, wine and drinks. Good value we enjoyed the food.

Tried this little Chinese restaurant last week and wasn't expecting too much from the place. Both the soup and the curry were ok but tasted different from what they taste like in other places. I wouldn't say I preferred this taste but it was still ok. Wouldn't rush back!!

I wish I could pick this wee jewel up from Girvan and transport to Tarbert Loch Fyne, it was truly awesome.Friendly, great service from the young female waitress, nice atmosphere, spot on with a large jug of iced water and tooth picks. I recommend you do the all you can eat menu, sounds daunting but gives you the option to try new dishes, just get one rice to share it's plenty. The food was beautiful, cooked to order and so very fresh and succulent I am a regular travel all over the world and this experience was one of thee best culinary delights I have had in a long time. I recommend without a doubt, the best thing Girvan has to offer. Thank you to the waitress and chefs. Please open a restaurant in Tarbert.

Used this place on many occasions for takeaways. On various occasions the order has been wrong. First time no rice with order second time chicken and sweet conrn soup instead of chicken noodle then stake without the chips. I called to explain what happened and was asked did I want to come back and pick up the chips. No I don't think so. The chips were delivered with a free portion of spring rolls two cans of coke and a £5.00 voucher. You could not ask for more than that. However the food is always very good. Great curry. Would recommend for takeaways

Working in Girvan. So I only had a takeaway after long day at work. A local guy recommended this restaurant as it was reasonably good before but is now so much better that it has new owners(Apparently straight from Hong Kong.) I was sold and tried a starter platter and a recommendation of the spicy combination noodles. Not on the menu so maybe a staff favourite(always the better option in my experience). The starters of won tons, fried chicken legs, butterfly breaded kingprawns, and filo wrapped smoked ham and kingprawns with crispy seaweed was very tasty, quality and attention to detail was reminiscent of being in HK, then my main was unbelievably good and full of various meats and prawns. The best Chinese meal for a very long time, only hope they keep it up and do not become okay!! Worth a trip.

We checked it out by reviewing others comments. We were welcomed by lovely staff who couldn't do more for us. Our drinks were served promptly, no issues with the quality of wine, nice. We had both starters and a main course, which ticked all the boxes. When we are next in Girvan we'll make a point of visiting again.

First off, let me say this isn't a negative in any way if you want good food and fast service.The food was perfectly good, certainly as good as any other Chinese restaurant I have eaten in, and there have been a lot, all over the world. I visited because I was staying in Girvan on business and didn't fancy eating in the pub.Ordered my usual, chicken Satay as a starter and Chicken fried rice as a main. Now, both were excellent as stated but I walked in at 5.10PM, was the only customer so ordered quickly. 3 minutes later they both arrived TOGETHER! I ate it (very nice) and was outside wondering what to do now before 5.30. less than 20 minutes after walking through the door. Ask for them to take their time if you want to spend time over the meal as the service is lightning fast. A positive for a business traveller like me sometimes but I would have felt a little cheated if I had been with wife and friends. Also, by being so fast, they lost out as I always have a couple of beers, I just didn't get the chance to order a second beer on this visit. I would go back at the food was really good.Just be very aware that they are so fast and I was the only person in the restaurant at 5.10 PM on a Monday so it was not that they needed the table back.

This is a nice Chinese themed restaurant with bright coloured murals on the walls, and lots of Chinese ornaments, lamps etc.When we went in (12.15pm) my wife, son grandson and myself were the only members of the public in the restaurant and by the time we had eaten and left no other customers came in. The waitress directed us to our seat and gave us enough time to settle before approaching us for our order. While very pleasant in her manner the waitress did find it difficult to understand what we were asking but did manage to get our order in the end - or so I thought. I had hot and sour soup which was what I would expect in a Chinese restaurant, good enough but nothing special. The main course I had Chicken curry and boiled noodles (that is what I asked for) but in fact got fried noodles.This course was similar to the starter, okay and what I would expect for a curry, we all eat what we got and felt that our meal was okay but would not go out of our way to go back.

My 3rd Visit to China Moon and am not sure if I will go back!! The food was lovely and have no issues with our order of starter and main all was good. My issue which I have had on all three occasions is the Service. There was 4 staff on and only one other table in use and we was constantly approached by each member whipping plates away even before a fork had hit the plate they saw plate was empty and whoosh gone. Service was so quick that main course arrived before I had swallowed last bit of starter and we was out of the restaurant within 1/2hr wondering what to do with rest of evening and had we actually gone out for dinner. Service was to quick I felt they didn't really want us sat at the table they just wanted the money!!!!!

We've eaten in China Moon 4 or 5 times now and have always enjoyed both the food and the cheerful service.
