New City Cantonese in South Ayrshire

From the minute we walked in the door we were welcomed. Fabulous service and superb food. We had a range of dishes and they were all superb.

Didn't enjoy my choice....the others seemed happy

This used to be a great restaurant but has gone downhill rapidly. The servers cannot get you out of there quickly enough. Table next to us young girl went to toilet and they were up to lift her plate while the rest of family still eating. Portion size is tiny especially dessert. Was putting last spoonful in my mouth ( out of two ) and plate was whisked away. Not value for money won’t be back!

Been a few times and quality and value for money been good.today very disappointed. Won’t be back . Menu now 12.50 but supplements apply (2.00 ) spareribs . Beef for main meal not chewable both of us noticed change in quality of food

Not impressed with food, service nor price. Salt and chilli ribs were not full ribs but the cartilage ends, the sweet and sour pork was lacking flavour and seasoning. No condiments on the table. Service was surly but quick and prices were high. The fried rice was decent. The actual restaurant is in good location and nice looking but will not be back.

Lovely meal, staff were very friendly,, and chef even cooked us a meal that wasn't on the menu, very tasty and filling, the restaurant was lovely and cool, despite being very warm outside,very clean, toilets were immaculate thank you.

Dined here last night. Really lovely meal. Shredded duck with pancakes to start followed by shredded chilli beef and chicken curry. Nice and spicy.

Excellent food at amazing prices. Had the 3 course lunch menu, which was around £11.00. The service is brilliant as the staff can't do enough for you. I'll definitely be back & can't rate highly enough.

Good price. But very small meal for an adult, waitress was very moody and drawing my 10 year old girl and disabled son dirty looks, ignoring my daughter about taking her order, made my daughter cry, not a nice atmosphere at all.

Portion sizes are very small, currys loaded with onions and peas to bulk out. Cake for dessert was tiny! Service was awful. Taller lady stared over the whole tome we were there and was very rude and abrupt when clearing the table before we were finished.

Really disappointing. I went in yesterday and ordered the special Chow Mein. It looked ok and at first it was decent but after taking a few more bites I quickly realised that some bits of meat were off and looked as if they were tossed in from someone else's discarded leftovers. I told the manager and asked for another portion to take away. I thought that would be it and I wouldn't have left a negative review but unfortunately they gave me the same thing and thought I wouldn't notice because although they took out most of the meat that was off, they forgot one or two chunks in... This is not acceptable, especially for £15 a portion! The place looks ok and the staff are courteous, so was really not expecting this. Not going there again. Please beware of the quality and freshness of their food, especially the meat.

Worst service I’ve seen in far too long, we were rush through our meal, dishes were literally swiped away, one person literally just picked up her last chip, her plate was promptly taken and replaced with her dessert. Portions were small, only 6 pieces of chicken on one plate! Not great at all.

I have been going here for over 40 years. Excellent food and excellent service. I highly recommend it.

Came across this place, whilst visiting Ayr, what a gem they have here in this restaurant. Food was Excellent, service and staff were excellent and friendly. Well worth popping in if you really like decent food.

Wow! Not only was the food amazing but our waitress really knew her stuff and was friendly, polite and attentive. Makes eating out a pleasure.

Enjoyed the food but felt they rushed you out

Food looked great but was very disappointed as it was cold the only thing hot was the chips / rice cold / main cold and also has to pay for rice thought as it was part of the main course it would come with it also had to pay for prawn crackers that didn't arrive all in all wouldn't recommend !!

Use this place regularly. Lunch menu outstanding value, great selection, 3 courses for £9.95. Lunch menu from 12 'till 5pm. Staff very friendly, even greet you in the street. Have kept their prices the same for quite a while.

Had a meal out here when on holiday, food was very good with plenty of it, had to take a doggy bag!! Very nicely decorated, great service.

An excellent menu to suit everyone, very welcoming and helpful staff, promt attention and good meal portions, licensed premises and very well decor, good spacing between tables. Easy access for the less able and on street parking. A very delicious experience.

Starter chicken & sweetcorn soup good but too salty. Appetiser was good but all the Mains was very salty.with less salt this meal would be good.

Came as family of 6, set menu £9.95 for 2 courses is great but there is lots of additional add ons. Extra if you want chicken breast etc. The food was nice and good portions. My salt and chilli chicken was a bit on the hot side for me and the curry sauce was also a bit hot and would have like it to be a bit more flavoursome. My daughters curry was the same , a bit too hot. Would have been nice to get some complimentary prawn crackers considering our bill was £110. I don’t think I would return, food was good but I’ve had better

We have been many times and enjoyed it. Phoned for a carry out today . Ordered barbecue spare ribs with sauce and sweet and sour chicken.3 times said wanted sauce on ribs. Was asked if I wanted them dry or with sauce.after order was confirmed I again said wanted sauce on ribs. When we got home ribs were dry ! I phoned to complain only to get told “new girl didn’t understand “ it was same lady (owner who took my order) wont be back

A friend and I had been in Ayr for the day and came upon New City Cantonese restaurant when we were looking for somewhere to eat at teatime. We were not disappointed. Friendly, welcoming staff. A good choice of dishes on the set menu and the food was excellent. I would most certainly recommend New City.

Been a few times in the past had lovely meals.. Unfortunately in recent times foods been tasteless..Don't think ill be back..

Had the lunch menu 3 courses for £8.95 I think, kids £7.50 same menu just smaller portion they said, was same size portion. I'd prefer a separate kids menu different choices. Anyway food was nice good choices too many things on menu with extra charges though.

Ordered beef curry fried rice, barbecue ribs, special chew mein, got home recieved chicken curry fried rice, dried up dry ribs and special chew mein not impressed, never again average meal.

Food was good, although one of our main courses had to be sent back for reheating. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

This was all I expect of a Chinese restaurant, great tasting, well flavoured and generous portions. The chips (I know!) were fantastic and the sweet and sour chicken was very good. Starter of salt and chilli spare ribs was excellent - very meaty ribs and very nice banana fritter with Syrup to finish. It was like it always was back in the 70s,80s etc. And none the worse for that. Well recommended.

To put it in context the weather was really bad so it was hardly surprising the restaurant was very quiet, we had teh place to ourselves after 30 minutes. The staff were lovely and the food excellent, I had the chicken satay and beef fillet curry and would definitely have it again. Not cheap but worth the money.

The staff were absolutely great!!! There was two very hardworking girls out front that chatted away to us as if they knew us. They were beautiful. As for the boy working, he didn't kow what a smile was and my teenage daughter was less moody ( someone say that time of the month for him LOL), anyways the food was gorgeous and didn't lack in flavour, I had the chicken skewers ( YUM am I right?) and the Beef curry. Thank you. Would Recommend.

Terrible service, owner was very rude to us when we asked about how long our food would be? Owner kept shouting at a staff member in front of customers.Not enough staff on for the amount of covers. Food was cold and definitely not worth the money. Ruined my dads birthday and not even an apology when we raised our concerns just a remark of "its been a busy two weeks". We will NOT be back!!!!!
