Rubino Kitchen in Colchester

Rubino Kitchen On Saturday we made a long overdue return to Rubino Kitchen. I’m delighted to say it was our best visit to date as we enjoyed a fabulous tasting menu created by chef / owner Rob. We were also looked after superbly by Sophie. The restaurant is on the Inworth Road just a ten minute drive from junction 23 on the A12. When we arrived Sophie was there to greet us warmly before seating us at our table. At this point Rob came out for a chat and to welcome us back. For the menu which is designed so you can either have A la Carte or create your own tasting menu. This gives you the opportunity to have as many dishes as you like as well as this there also the choice of a set three course lunch menu. We decided to opt for the offer from Rob to have a surprise tasting menu. We started with a Chicken and Leek Terrine which was followed by Rabbit Agnolotti , Baked Scallops , Braised Beef with Horseradish Risotto and Haddock. Then it was time for desserts. Here we enjoyed the delicious Lemon Tart , Custard Tart and the Biscoff Cheesecake. We finished with a coffee before heading into the kitchen where we could personally thank Rob and the team for a great afternoon. There is no doubt in my mind when I say I would recommend a visit to Rubino Kitchen which is one of the best restaurants in Essex. Thank You all for a fabulous afternoon and look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We enjoyed a fantastic lunch yesterday at Rubino Kitchen. What a treat to find a restaurant with tablecloths and comfy chairs. Front of house Sophie a real asset to the business very helpful and pleasant. Our food was tremendous each course a pleasure, so nice to have different flavours from the normal run of the mill meat and two veg. Lots of little extras between courses made for a very good lunch indeed.We will return.

Tasty and very different flavours. Such a change to have an interesting menu to chose from. We are both vegetarians and really appreciated that they will cook any starter for a main or any main for a starter! We were given a tasty potato with cream cheese and chives on arrival, bread and oil, a pallet cleanser after our mains, a beautiful sweet jellied salty sweet after our dessert . All little treats! The photo doesn't do it justice as its lovely inside with now much more comfy chairs. Would highly recommend and revisit. One of the very best in Essex!

After we lunched here last May I left a 5 star review. When we organised a short break in the area this year one of the main reasons was to visit this restaurant again. However this time I was rather disappointed. The staff were still welcoming and friendly although busy but my first 2 courses were strangely lacking in taste. I was initially pleased to see tabbouleh on the menu as it's one of my favourite things. It came as a starter with grilled watermelon and feta. Apart from the saltiness of the feta the dish had no taste, there was no mint or any other herb running through the tabbouleh. My main was supposed to be blackened cod with sweetcorn risotto. The cod wasn't blackened and the risotto wasn't seasoned. The meal was saved by the pistachio pannacotta which was really good. I had chosen to eat from the a la cart menu my husband had the set menu which I had thought was a little boring a main of minced beef tagliatelle, followed by cheesecake, the portions were small but he wasn't unhappy with them. If we lived locally we would give Rubinos another try but we probably won't travel from London again.

Tucked away in deeper Essex. Not really sure I should be sharing this place, as I want to be able to get in there now & again in future. Great food, service, ambience, & still reasonably priced.

My daughter booked a table to celebrate our Diamond Anniversary on Saturday 13th July inst. On checking the menu she read there was a “ bottomless brunch” taking place with a “ live” singer and background music but the normal menu was available!! When we arrived we could hardly hear ourselves speak so the waitress seated us in a room at the back,fine,it wasn’t long before another similar aged couple joined us!!!The music was still intrusive but with the door closed it was a great improvement!! Can’t fault the food it was delicious but did think after our complaint AND we were celebrating a free glass of Prosecco would have been a nice touch!! The waitress informed us that this was the first time they had done the “ bottomless brunch “ and we suggested that maybe they don’t accept normal bookings at the same time!! Would we return— my husband and I? The jury is out!!

We booked Rubino kitchen for a Saturday evening we were the 1st to arrive. We had a drink and sat out the front when we finished. We went in and the waitress showed us to our table. It is an old converted pub which has a great interior for a restaurant, we had the smoked haddock scotch eggs to start, my wife had the plaice I had dressed crab both were excellent and nice bottle of white wine. By the time we had finished the place was full excellent service and value We will visit again.

Afraid I cannot rate it 5, not sure id deserves 4. Went with friends for Sunday Lunch. Roast beef, roast potatoes & gravy were excellent - a pity i can't say the same about the rest of the vegetables. Cabbage, leeks, cauliflower cheese all pretty soggy. Whatever happened to good old carrots, broccoli, cauliflower & other plain root vegetables? Also, pity about the choice of desert - I had the cinnamon donuts - these were far too dry & certainly not freshly prepared. Sunday - whatever happened to apple pie or crumble! Service was good, ambience fine - won't hurry back - all in all I find this restaurant a bit of a disappointment.

The most amazing food and service . Fine dining at its best without the extortionate price tag . I can’t recommend this restaurant enough .

If you want somewhere quiet , cosy with friendly staff and great food I suggest you give Rubino kitchen a visit , you won’t be disappointed , will be recommending to family and friends

This is still my favourite restaurant in Essex! Food is glorious & considering the quality the price is not unreasonable ( although I find eating out nowadays is generally more expensive) . Certainly worth trying if you have never been. Recommend.ps their fat chips are now so much better…:)

Thank you so much for a fantastic family lunch today on Christmas Day. The restaurant was warm and inviting with a buzz of happy diners enjoying Christmas lunch. The service was friendly and very efficient which was amazing considering you were full and we booked the second sitting. The roasts were great and we shall definitely visit you on a Sunday in the New Year for another roast. Turkey and beef both great and good selection of tasty vegetables. I had the sea bass which was beautiful. So glad you opened today and will definitely book next year. Thank you to you and the team.

I had my first visit and definitely not the last 🥰😋 Sunday beef roast was cooked to perfection as well I tried salmon gravalax, an easy 5 stars from me not only for the amazing dish I had but the friendliness of the staff , nice atmosphere inside , well done guys 🥳

First visit to this restaurant and absolutely shall return. Excellent food, good service and a faultless experience. Loved that you could have a menu choice as a starter or main course. And you get to keep your table for the evening - no restrictions to cram in a 2nd or 3rd sitting. Glad to see restaurant was full. My new favourite restaurant.

Excellent food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Came here for my wife’s 60th Birthday with a group of friends and relatives. We couldn’t have asked for a better evening. Real value for money in these times of ever increasing prices. A “diamond in the rough”.

Very poor food served, Steak was almost Raw when requested medium. Pheasant starter extremely dry. Beef Risotto so over powering with horseradish. Conservatory we was put in very harsh looking not comfortable in anyway. Disappointed with whole experience, eat out at lots of restaurants this was certainly one of the least memorable.

We went for lunch today and had the three course set menu. The food was excellent with a canapé, homemade bread, a pre-dessert and three different petit four at no extra cost. This really made the meal a whole experience which all three of us greatly enjoyed. Wonderful personal service and the birthday girl received a complimentary glass of bubbly and a candle. We will be back for our next special occasion and we can’t wait!
