Roys Cafe Bowthorpe in Norwich

We asked and paid for 2 full English breakfast with a cup of tea. We were served with the tea, but no breakfast .After a good 1/2 hour wait and watching other people get served. It was obvious we were forgotten about, we gave up and asked for money back. Not a good experience, will not be going back.

Firstly a mat blocking the door left me unable to open it without squeezing my leg in kick it away whilst staff did not bother to sort it out Secondly, we went to the counter to order, was greeted by a shaking head and a face that screamed “can you not see I’m not ready despite being past the opening time, and you don’t deserve a greeting because I’m slacking at my job” then by actually being told “you may as well sit down for a few minutes, because I’m not even ready” as she fumbled coins into the register making it feel like it was our fault we couldn’t order and that we were the problem. This was 5/10 minutes after opening which you would not expect on a well trained, customer focussed operation

Top quality ingredients in the breakfast. Lovely sausages and tasty thick bacon.

Visited here a couple of times over last few months and both times I have been very impressed with the service and drinks. The first time I was served by a lovely man who was friendly. He really took the time and care whilst making my black forest hot chocolate and it tasted really good, was so nice to get a drink where you could actually taste the syrup for once! The second time I was served by a girl called Molly and again she was very friendly, she made more conversation with me than what would be considered standard and she made sure to check how everything was. I also had another lady called Jo who came over to check how everything was and to see if she could get me anything else. Staff are very attentive. I have had the BLT sandwich both times and its very reasonably priced at just £4! there is a great choice of sandwiches and paninis etc which are far cheaper than most cafes. They also have a really extensive variety of syrups for coffees/hot chocolates available

We LOVE this cafe. They do a LOVELY all day breakfast & at a reasonable price. But they do have other food there too & a take away option if you choose. There's a coffee machine so you can have a cappuccino, Mocha, espresso etc or go for a good old cuppa tea. Soft drinks also. The staff are brilliant & really friendly. The cafe is busy during lunch times. But the atmosphere is relaxed & good. There's toilets for customers & its all 1 level so is wheelchair friendly. We visit once a fortnight. Sometimes every week if we want a real treat.

Been a few times and always brilliant recent visit very disappointed small breakfast hard cold toast took up most of the plate cheese and onion toasty disgraceful very slimy

Fabulous place to stop off for breakfast or lunch. It's nice it has a bit of outside seating too. Really good breakfast and nice light lunches. Food is very good and a great price. Staff are nice and friendly too.

Food was awful and cold. We had only just sat down when it was brought to us so obviously hadn't just been cooked fresh

Big breakfast was lovely, fresh tasty ingredients, and cooked to perfection! Large latte was excellent as well. Staff were super friendly, and very attentive, would highly recommend!

All good, friendly staff and good food

Fantastic cafe and can't sing their praises enough. Been in a few times with my wife and our baby boy (who's a hit with the ladies I might add). Came in today and they had no full fat coke. My boy needed a feed but didn't want to seem rude by taking up a seat without buying anything but they said its ok for my wife to get something from the bakery across the way and have it there

Lovely staff, lovely food, good price

Dreadful service stood at counter for 10 minutes ignored by probably the rudest woman, talking to all and sundry and not even giving us eye contact. Foods good that's why we go but not anymore, id recommend the Willows at Drayton if you want better service better food and a smiling face on entry. I suspect this woman needs more training on her customer service skills

Don't serve chips, mushrooms were uncooked, food overall was not great to be honest. Disappointed, we've been looking for a decent local cafe and we still haven't found it.

Awful place since Roy's have had this. Ordered a big breakfast it arrived before I sat down. I was the only person in the cafe why didn't they just cook it fresh? Would have been good and hot then not cold and awful. Do the staff just not want to work here?

That's a brilliant cafe, open till 4, but don't serve food after 3. Work that one out.

Staff are so friendly. They will go out of there way to please you. They even gave our dog water.

Nice food, if not a little over priced. £2.99 for a bacon and egg bap. Except it's not a bap. It's a roll with 1 fried egg and 1 slice of bacon. Norwich market can do better.

Recommended by a friend. The staff in this cafe the service was excellent the food was very tasty, any request was done without any aggro ..bacon I like really crispy, the chefs come out and asked me me how crispy I wanted it. when it came it was delicious. she definitely know her job. Will definitely visit again .. Plenty on my plate for all day breakfast. Including toast. For a very good price.£3.99.

Poor quality breakfast. Vegetarian sausages were really not very nice. Nothing really tasty. Breakfasts had to be returned due to items being cold. Staff however were really friendly.

Always love coming here for a quick breakfast or even just a coffee. Always willing to customise to your tastes and vegetarian options available. Good Covid proofing, feel safe here.

Definitely no distancing today we went around 3pm the coffee shop was scary with a full house me and my husband could not believe it as we just came out of the charity shop masks worn and only six PPL in at a time why do they think they can have a full coffee shop no masks even customers that know each other turning round having a chat totally unbelievable needs looking into 😡

Very well socially distanced and organised with the track and trace. Staff are lovely and friendly and the menu choices are perfect for a little cafe, in fact going beyond expectation. The food quality is fantastic and i had the breakfast bap with egg and bacon which was without a doubt, the best cafe combination with the roll itself made to perfection. Will highly recommend and definitely be back because the prices are even more impressive than the food.

Can't complain. Sausages are good quality and thick bacon (though not crispy) eggs have always been spot on with a lovely running yolk. I think the price is good and can add things to your plate too.

Pero el personal se queda parado en el mostrador esperando al próximo cliente, en lugar de hacer otros trabajos. Pedimos cuando estaba bastante vacío, un sándwich tostado y un artículo de desayuno más bebidas. Sin embargo, las personas (dos mesas separadas) que vinieron después de nosotros, llegaron allí comidas más grandes servidas antes que nosotros. Y nuestra bebida caliente fue totalmente olvidada. Es necesario observar los sistemas, tal vez las órdenes deban escribirse y colgarse en orden. Para mejorar los sistemas, de modo que se cometan errores, es solo un café muy pequeño, así que no veo lo difícil que es organizar esto. La comida cuando llegó era muy buena y con una buena relación calidad-precio, así que lo probaría de nuevo. Esperemos que la próxima vez, el personal esté mejor organizado.

La comida estaba bien, es solo un café desordenado. Puedo ver que se llena, no hay mucho espacio, especialmente con sillas de ruedas, ya que solo pueden bajar por los 2 pasillos. Sin embargo, a veces menos es más, tal vez deshacerse de un par de mesas en el medio abriría este café, no se trata solo de vagabundos en los asientos

Good English breakfast value for money

Big English breakfast for £6.99. Served promptly and with a smile. The only negative would be that the eggs were a bit greasy but...

Food very disappointing all day breakfast food was cold. Had a hair in the food. I don't reccomend going there.

Always nice to stop off here for a bite to eat, as long as you're not in a hurry! The staff are friendly, and the food is very nice, but the service can be a little slow, though it's always busy when we go in, so I'd guess they're under pressure with the lunch time rush!

Food is very inconsistant comes up different everytime , when i ordered a tuna pannini i was reminded by one staff member it was a tuna and cheese melt, when it arrived it was stone cold, had'nt even seen a grill

Came here a few times service was first class served with a smile and had a lovely latte. Food looked lovely too which I will get next time I visit norwich.and yes I love ROYS the shop feels like going back in time could have the whole day here looking around and Staff all look happy :) and I had to buy a ROYS bag

Not the young ladies fault as she seemed to be the only person working there. No cups for her to put hot drinks into, no tea spoons, took about ten minutes to get a cup of tea, my wife had finished her soft drink before I finally got my tea. More staff needed, could be a really nice place.

Reasonably priced cafe and meeting place

Sausage inedible ,bacon overcooked and tough everything else was ok.presumably sausage and bacon pre cooked which is a shame I think customers would rather wait a little longer and have a freshly cooked breakfast. Service always really good and delivered with a smile

I agree with what others have said. There needs to be a little bit more variety on the breakfast menu. Fried toast would make a welcome introduction, as would bacon with less fat. Similarly the way the hash browns are cooked, leaves them far too greasy and soft. But I have to say that the staff are always friendly and helpful!

We stopped here for a snack lunch. Teas and two sandwiches. The sandwiches (one cheese and ham and one cheese and pickle) came with a salad garnish and crisps and was more than we expected. For £2.95 each and £1.79 for two teas the value was fantastic. The sandwiches were freshly made and were very good.

Normally go there for a cup of tea before doing my shopping. Food people have ordered always looks nicely presented

I have now visited this cafe for breakfast on four separate occasions and never been disappointed. For quality quantity and price this will be very hard to beat.

Quick friendly service lovely food

Gone a bit downhill since me and my lady friend first started coming here. The breakfasts were very nicely priced and we often got tea sweats with the amount of tea they gave us. However lately the cups have been dirty; the cream tea comes with no cream and there is no longer much tea in the teapot. Bit disappointed. We will still come here however since they do good hot chocolate. On the Roy’s front the jam puffs have also gone down in quality. What a shame! Searched for over a year for those Jammy beauties. Was thoroughly disappointed with the puffs when we found them as they were quite frankly not nice. Will be going elsewhere for the puffs in future.

Ordered jacket potatoe and 2 breakfasts..the breakfasts came then when we asked where jacket potatoes was. They had sold last 2 after I had ordered mine...staff didn't know what they were doing...

If you want a cheap full English breakfast this is the place. The breakfast is excellent - and cooked to order. I only like crispy bacon and always get this when I ask for it. Two breakfasts with a pot of tea for two is about £8.50 !! ok the location isn`t the most panoramic, the cups and saucers and bit cheap and nasty (thus only 4 stars) but the food is excellent and delivered to the table by nice friendly staff. There is bar stool seating at the windows and comfy sofas. For the price and quality of the breakfast, it`s unbeatable.

If I could leave any less I would......... order our good and drinks then had to go and chase the drinks up to be told there would be a 10 minute wait for food as they ran out of sausages! Ok then they brought the drinks out wrong, by this time not so happy 30 minutes on and still no food! they then bring the food out after we were about to chase it up..... great finally it's here!! Nope bacon was stone cold the egg looked like they had played football with it and there was a handful of food at tops! So I asked for a copy of my receipt (I was never given one to start) to which I was told no basically...... letter of complaint coming your way 👏

Not what I was expecting cold egg cold bacon cold sausage a mix of warm and cold beans mushrooms not included in an day breakfast and they don't do fried bread.That's the first and last time I'll go there.Oh and they forgot our drinks.

Great breakfast, only complaint is lack of variety in breakfast menu. Lovely little place with a friendly atmosphere none the less.

Very friendly staff, Great Service and a pleasant environment. Only thing I would comment is that the cafe does not offer a wide variety in breakfast menus. Other than that, a really cheerful place to go to.
