Cod was so dry and batter was inedible. I think it must have been sitting there quite a while before they served it, because it was definitely NOT freshly cooked.. £19 for two cod and a portion chips that we couldn't eat. I would not recommend this chippy...

This place was great once. The quality has gone downhill. I understand prices going up but reducing quality at the same time is taking the pi$$. Stale chips and cod cooked in overused oil. This is the 3rd chance I have given this place. Last time, won’t be returning.

Lovely fish and chips served quite quickly and good sized portion.

Horrendous is the only word I can describe what we had tonight. The fish was cold and the chips were undercooked will not be going back again.

My wife is gluten and onion intolerant, and one of the things she misses more than anything is not being able to eat ‘fish and chips’ from a chip shop. Today, however she was euphoric as we discovered the ‘Royal Fish and Chip’ shop on a day out to Bognor. It was a spotlessly clean shop with wonderful helpful staff. A detailed ‘gluten free’ price list was displayed, and the prices did not incur any increase. Every item the shop produces is available as ‘gluten free’ on a daily basis. We cannot rate this shop highly enough, as we’ve never ever encountered a ‘gluten friendly’ business like this one. We will certainly be returning to this superb fish and chip shop.

Ordered a medium battered fish and medium chip with curry sauce and the worst meal ive ever had in my life the fish was black one side and so greasy same with the chips aswell so damp and soggy, definitely need a better cook in there will be else where from now on

The chips were ok, not special, but the fish was dreadful The batter, instead of being a nice golden colour was dark brown , hard and crunchy , it seemed like it had been re cooked, it was that hard, and this was at 6 o clock in the evening, so it should have been freshly cooked I was very disappointed, and had I of seen the fish at the shop instead of when I got home I would have complained there and then My advice is check your food before you leave the shop

Every time I buy chips from here they are bad. Burnt and oily. Looks and tastes like the oil used is very dirty as all chips covered in something. Such a shame it’s gone so down hill. I will not be using again. I took the chips back and asked if I could have a fresh batch but was told all the chips were like that.

we visit often because of the excellent gluten free options which are Coeliac safe ,, however tonight’s were awful , the chips were the worst ever and think the oil needed changing about a week ago ! Created a lot of wasted food and kids were still hungry!!!

I have just been serviced the most disgusting sausage and chips I have ever had. Not one to complain they were so bad I returned, to be told they were fine and it is normal, they do a change of oil this time of year. No refund offered. £25 and I threw the lot in the bin. Very disappointed. Picture explains it all really, looks like they have been reheated after hanging around.

Was not so good this time. Fish batter was very brown and dense. Chips were like a mixture of 3 days scraps. Sorry for bad review but, it was not nice at all. I'm being generous with 3 stara as they serve gluten free.

Burnt and rock hard not the frist time

Ordered off Deliveroo and was hot but more batter than fish for £6.05. Chips soggy. Had ordered a kids meal fish and chips £3.95 same size cod as £6.05. £3.95 for chips. And pie was the best. At £4.10. £21.11 in total from deliveroo. Not the best.

Lovely freshly made on the spot traditional fish and chip shop. BUT what really stole the show was the battered crème egg bare in mind I visited when it was the Easter holidays with the children But I was in 2 minds whether to try this. So glad I did, had to write a review to let others know just how nice it is.

Other half wanted to treat me to a F&C supper. Very underwhelmed with the size and value I’m afraid and even with increased costs, what was served is minuscule for £6.05 (not including chips). Previously had good meals….not today, cannot recommend.

Yesterday we took advantage of "Buy One Get One Free" offer in Bognor Observer. Absolutely fabulous meal! The skate is amazing and so many chips we could have fed the 5,000!! I know of no other fish and chip shops that sell skate these days so try to use Roiyals regularly. Just wish we could sit and eat at the premises instead of takeaway. Would feel like an amazing dining experience if we could and am sure it would do well.

Great fish and chips and the person who served us was really helpful. My friend needed gluten free and they made batter, fritter and curry sauce all gluten free at no extra cost. All really tasty and big portions. We'd driven there especially because of the GF options and we weren't disappointed. Recommended even though it's a bit out of town. Plenty of parking outside.

Wow- the best fish I have ever had. The batter was crunchy on the outside and melted in your mouth on the inside. Chips were well cooked too !

Very friendly place. Chips excellent. sausage 🌭 just right. picked onion not good at all. ok if you're teeth have fallen out. As there so soft. No crunch at all. Shame otherwise perfect.

Really disappointed. Got med cod large cod and large chips.£16. The chips weren’t even big enough for a child. Cod lovely. Will definitely check my order next time.

Best fish and chips in Bognor Regis very high standard of food and hygiene. The staff are a mix of enthusiastic servers and very experienced fryers. Family owned a run business well worth trying.

Gluten free fish and chips and vinegar, what's not to like, yum. This is now our local chippy. We had a family meal tonight, the food was great, lovely sausage/cod in batter, and tasty chips. The children's meal came in a special box with crayons, booklet and a drink, we were very impressed. It is all cooked fresh, and they get a lot of orders, so be patient if you are not ordering in advance. If you are not happy with your experience, the staff/owner don't know unless you politely speak with them, they can then put it right for you. They care about their reputation, the business, and their customers. This is my personal review, I have no connection with this business apart from being a regular customer..

Always good food but prices up again fish and chips £10!! Medium chips £3-00 so go large £3.95 enough for 2 it's really becoming a treat it used to be affordable but getting expensive, everything in this business has been affected by the politics of Ukraine/Russia from the oil prices, potatoes shortage, its tough and its not coming down anytime soon sadly !!

Ordered 2 cod and chios oh boy were we disappointed. The cod was so small we thought it was fish fingers. Service was a joke, seems like 3 kids behind the counter did not know what they were doing and on a Tuesday.!!!

Not sure how they claim medium fish, more like a goujon! Still not really the main problem, shop run bye kids with little idea, now my main issue the fish I had was probably cooked several hours earlier as batter incredibly tough and cheewy. Won't be returning.

Driving home from a day at the beach, we did a quick Google for gluten free fish and chips. With 2 coeliacs in the family it was great to find Royals, my son was really happy that they had gluten free battered sausage.

40 minute wait for a meal for 4 adults and one kid. They mixed the gluten free and non gluten free meals in the same plastic bag. No apology for the wait. Half the food was cold by the time I reached home. Disappointing

Went to this chip shop on the evening of the 5th July 2022 and ordered three battered sausage and chips, did not hang around the counter, left the staff to it. When I got home the sausages were so over cooked and tasted awful borderline burnt. Would not ever use this shop again would go as far as to say the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had, absolutely awful and would suggest to avoid this shop

On Fathers Day we were staying in Bognor and couldn’t find a pub to eat in the evening. Everywhere was solid so we decided to have fish and chips. They were fantastic! Freshly cooked and really good portions. The young man behind the counter was great as one of us wanted vinegar and salt and I only wanted salt. He put everything we wanted in two boxes and wrote on each box so we wouldn’t get muddled. It was probably the best Fish and Chips we’d ever had and I thought the young man was the icing on the cake. 10/10 on everything thank you.

Absolutely terrible food. Chips and pie were cold, I had to reheat them. Battered sausage was very small, but I got charged for a large battered sausage. The only good thing that we had was chicken nuggets. We won’t be going back there

Went to order my usual Gluten Free cod this evening, to find out the boy who took my order didn't ask for GF, also he n the other boy behind the counter were so busy having a 'private' conversation they left a lady waiting to order for 5 minutes. Now this is my regular chippy n the service is not usual this bad, although has been getting a bit slack recently, the food is why I go, Best cod around! Please could the owner give his staff a bit more training.

Before covid have gone here, put in verbal order, paid, waited & left with yummy food. Now, used deliveroo to order, easy enough as already have an account. Pay through the deliveroo app. Delivery was an hour (it was a Friday evening) & it didn't bother us as we'd had a long day out & were sat recovering! You get notifications when order is received, being prepared & then on it's way. Delivery time was accurate on this occasion. Food arrived wrapped & hot. Cod, plaice & scampi all tasty, shared large chips between 3 of us. Yummy. Would use again, despite wait time.

We had set our heart on a traditional fish and chips supper and found ourselves descending on this place around 8:45 pm. It looked like they were about to close for the evening but luckily they agreed to serve us. Our three portions of cod and chips were freshly prepared while we waited. During this time the staff were very chatty and seemed genuinely interested to help out. We took our food home and I must say that it was delicious. The cod was a fresh, white colour and encased in a thin, delicious batter. The chips weren't bad either - if fact there were so many that the sea gulls had the remainder in the garden the next morning.

Usually good, not this time. There was one delivery driver just leaving as I walked in. No other customers in the shop. The two staff serving seemed more interested in talking to each other than anything else and one of them had to check with the other one what my order was less than a minute after I ordered. The large portion of chips was not very generous.

Can't believe the service we were given tonight by the young lad in there was so rude, we have always used the Royal chip shop, we will think again before using them, Even the fish and chips we had was not the best , We ordered our food off their Web site and still had to wait an extra 20mins

After giving this place a second chance (my first bad expierience was a human hair in the batter on fish) The haddock I ordered and was cooked while I waited was very strange in colour and smelled and tasted very fishy!!! I will not be giving this poorly run venue another chance and will take my business elsewhere

They've become really expensive and slow to serve. £3 for small chips! You'd think with the extra money they're taking in they'd move over to recyclable packaging... But they're still using non-recyclable polystyrene boxes as if it's still the 1990s. Come on, get with it.

Ordered a small order (cod, haddock, chips) online and website said ready at 6pm. At 6:30 pm I still had no food. Waited in the shop seeing walk-in customer after customer order and get food within seconds. They know I'm waiting, so no reasonable reason for the delay.

Ordered on the website to collect. Tried to charge me an extra £2 because the till prices changed. Chips were still cold, not cooked at all literally spat it out still cold in the middle, battered sausages are cold, not sure if they were even cook right either, only good but was the burger and battered Mars bars

Ordered LG cod, (overcooked and dry) 2 spring rolls (cold in the middle) sausage and sausage in batterand 1 fish cake ( below average) chips OK . There was no one in the shop when I walked in ,order taken 20 mins later I got mine, after 5 people came in and got served before me (not pre Ordered food) , , will not be going there again , 80% of the food went in the dustbin ,

Nice food and cheap , very polite staff

This used to be a cracking chippy and, as one that now has fish and chips as a treat, I went out of my way to go there. Big mistake. Ignored by staff for at least five minutes I finally gave my order to a totally disinterested youth, and then waited. A couple of Just Eat and Deliveroo orders were fulfilled, one very large. Clearly, they had all the fresh chips as my two portions were the crappy, tepid bits at the bottom of the draining box. Batter was chewy, rather than crispy. Mediocre batter, miserable staff, and lousy food.

Read the reviews and assumed that we would be getting a decent meal! Wrong!! Early on a Saturday evening (6pm ish) seemed like a good option to get decent fresh chips. We placed an order for chicken nuggets and chips, chips and fish & chips. Was a bit surprised to have to go and find cash to pay for the meal. After a bit of a wait (35 mins) we were given the food. Straight away we could smell a problem. We had decided to eat on the beach but in the car all we could smell was rancid oil. The nuggets were edible. Nothing to note just standard ok nuggets. The fish was another matter. Very greasy . The fish itself was tasteless. Batter wasn't dreadful but the oil on it tasted old. The big problem was the chips. You can forgive so so food as long as the chips were good. These were not! They smelt awful. The oil definitely needed changing. The chips were rock hard, covered in bits from the oil, simply tasted dreadful. Never seen my teens throw chips away before! I ate 2 chips then gave up. A couple walking past saw my daughter getting upset and asked if we'd gone to Royals? When we said yes they shook their heads and told us we should have tried a different place. You'll see from my reviews that I'm honest and not into simply moaning for the sake of it. We were really disappointed not to be able to support a local business. There is no excuse to make dreadful chips. Clean oil would go along way to help. They have a captive market at the moment and if they want to keep customers they'll need to up their game.

Not very good. Ordered a medium cod which was more like a small fish steak and the batter was flat with no crunch. Battered sausage not to bad. Curry sauce was more a slurry then a sauce. But the chips were great.

I haven't had fish & chips for nearly 2 years. It was a real highlight on a rainy afternoon, eaten in the car with 3 dogs looking on ,patiently- lovely. I would definitely go there again.

Just had the worse fish and chips I have ever had there. The batter was very fatty and rock hard the chips were luke warm and I had to wait 45 minutes for it to be prepared. Very disappointed with a fish and chip shop I have used and been pleased with for many years.

Waited an hour and half for cod, chips and a jacket potato! Absolutely crazy, won’t be using again. Bet the bus drivers get a quicker service!

Best chippy I've known for a good 17 years now since running one in Waterlooville.. id love to give 5 stars only problem is the prices are going through the roof lately now..I remember the deals they used to do especially at lunch time they get so busy but it's easy to cost over £6 for sausage chips and curry sauce.. regardless the sauce is always the best the chips are never greasy and the batter and the fish is always good meats are what yoh expect but never a disappoint. I understand why likely now there's only one shop vs two and maybe covering costs of opening the place next door that may not re open again after covid but last time I remember a pie was like £3.95. Would I still go definitely for quality just can't afford to much these days.

One of the worst meals I've had in a long time, the chips were absolutely awful. Just a large bag of bits, barely any whole chips. Just bits and pieces. £6.80 for 8 pieces of small Scampi, what a joke. Will not order from here again.

On a visit to the coast with wife realy wanted to have the traditional fish n chip supper. Lots of good local reviews. It's not what I would call a restaurant a couple of chairs and tables. Food was OK came in cartons not on a plate soggy fish was under cooked small portions for the price.on the whole we expected more for such good reviews. Staff friendly and polite.

Very disappointing experience for first timer ordering via website, but the cashier wasn't pickup the order as should be. Chips was sad, greasy, soggy and tasteless Scampi wasn't fresh and covered with battered. Squid ring taste rubbery and synthetic. The battered fish is just mediocre. The smells of battered fish telling me they should change the deep fat frying oil often. Not impressed at all.
