Lovely pub, hidden away up a lane, with welcoming staff, cosy interior and pretty hanging baskets. Beer garden was a bit run down - bits of crisp packets and dog crap - but looked like pub exterior was being done up, so maybe garden is next project, shame noone had been out to check and clear it up though. Would definitely go again, as such a gem of a country pub that hasn't been turned into a trendy eatery. Have heard they do great food and decent price too. Great location.

We travel to Lydbrook from Port Talbot (1.5hr journey) just to have lunch at this pub! The food is great, home cooked and excellent value. Friendly, helpful staff. Although the pub is dog friendly, our greyhound takes up a lot of space so we love a good beer garden, this one has a lovely view, grass that our greyhound prefers and has shade available and bowls of water. The pub has a lot of history and lots of character. This is why it's worth the journey, we love it!

Called for Sunday lunch in this small, locals, unpretentious pub, large menu, we all ate roast dinners of pork, beef or turkey, presented ready plated with gravy on the side, v good food, large portions, then standard puds eg crumble or banana split, again large portions and tasty - all for £11 per head!!! Stunning value. Served with an excellent pint of Reverend James. Very friendly staff and food turned out quickly. Thanks for a great lunch.

This place came highly recommended for food and it didn't disappoint. It seemed that the menu changed today and will be changing again soon to add a few lighter bites for the summer season so don't expect to see what we had. I plumped for the scampi and chips and my lady friend had the beef roast. Everything was freshly cooked, piping hot and served to perfection. The tartar sauce really was tart and went well with the scampi. Portions are ample - we couldn't finish them off. Only thing that was slightly disappointing was they didn't have an IPA on but the quality of the food more than compensated. This is what a country pub should be, log burner ticking over in the bar with plenty of outside seating space too. Lovely surrounding with pheasants calling in the surrounding hills and fields. Well worth seeking out. This was our first visit but it won't be the last. Well worth seeking out.

Popped in for a meal when we were staying locally. Have to say it was the best value pub food we have had in ages. Good quality and plenty of it at really reasonable prices given the way most places are going. Very friendly too.

Called in for Sunday Lunch with my family and can’t speak highly enough of it, we got a very warm welcome ordered drinks and were shown to our table, the menu choices were very good and everything was served freshly cooked, we all ate everything on our plates. The desserts were amazing we all had trouble choosing what to have and again clean plates from everyone. The value is also amazing. The two waitresses serving us were friendly and professional. We will certainly return

Arrived, 5 of us seated promptly and order taken. Food was delicious, hot and plentiful(so much that we asked to take some home with us which staff supplied trays to suit). An exceptional meal at a very competitive price - well done to all involved for making mothers "special day" very very special. 10 out of 10

Ate outside in one of the pods. It was very busy and thus the service was slow, but the food was delicious. Were we to return, we would prefer to sit inside, as the seating was very uncomfortable.

Went here for lunch after a walk by the river, the service was first class, the food (all home cooked) was simply superb, and the value - well I cannot see how they can possibly only charge this little - under £7 and thats for main course (I would happily had anything from the menu but went for the steak and mushroom pie, my lady had the curry, both were the best food we had had on our trip, and by far the cheapest, deserts looked great to but was just too full for one so settled for ice cream. i would recommend this place to everyone - a little difficult to find but well worth it !!

The good lady and I booked in for Sunday lunch, the pub is tucked away in the wye valley in a lovely setting up a narrow steep lane. It’s a lovely peaceful setting, the pub is a small locals pub that serves good honest food at good honest price. What you get is not fancy, but a well cooked honest lunch and pudding, with a good pint of zider!

This is a cosy little pub in a lovely setting away from the hustle and bustle of life. it is full of character from days gone by and is run by friendly and relaxed hosts Peter and his mum. It opened at 7 in the evenings and on the first night of our stay in the area we tried the menu. We were very impressed by Michelle the cook's friendly and professional manner and the food she brought to our table was delicious and very filling. we enjoyed our visit so much that we ate there on two more occasions. Extremely good value for money too, as was the beer and cider. Give it a try.

We dropped in out of the blue having driven over to Symmonds Yat Rock foe short leg stretch and instead of heading to Wolford turned right after crossing the bridge and drove towards Lydbrook. we passed a sign almost obscured by fresh rampant growth thanks to the wet summer. we turned round and drove up the short lane and discovered the Royal Spring Inn. and solved the eternal question - Where can we obtain a decent meal? SUCCESS!As General McArthur said "We shall return".

Popped in to get food after a day off Go ape, We thought we would pop into a local pub for food, and instantly we were unwelcomed being stared at, and staff did not want us there, we were TOLD to not just sit there and order a drink, which we explained we would like food, we got turnt down and said they close in 30mins, half 5! What a joke!

The food was very good here. My husband and son had the boar sausage, potatoes and vegetables and I had roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes and and vegetables. Portions were large and I couldn't quite finish all my dinner. We didn't realize they didn't open until 7 and got there are 6:50, so we waited. The atmosphere was pretty casual with a pool table and bar and the menu on a chalkboard.

We found this place tucked away and thought it must be nice due to its location. It was a Monday lunchtime and we arrived at the same time as another family who had a dog so we were advised that we would have to sit next to the TV which was really loud. I assume it was the landlady that served us, she was very friendly albeit a bit slapdash. I had a roast, the roast potatoes tasted like they were reheated. My husband had steak which he asked for medium rare but it was well done and he said that the chips tasted like they were reheated. The food wasn't great but the main issue was the cleanliness, the windowsill behind us was disgusting and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years and the toilets looked like they could do with a deep clean. With the cleanliness so bad it really concerned us about the kitchen, I would like to think it was a lot cleaner. There was also the issue of the landlady and a couple of the other people in the bar staring over us while we were eating watching the races on the TV which was so loud that it gave me a headache! We couldn't wait to get out of there.

Great choice of beer and cider, great choice of food well cooked and very good value. All four of us enjoyed our visit. The Landlady and the locals were very friendly. If there is no one at the bar, ring the bell. I dare you.

Very first time to eat here and I will be back. I went with my husband and 3 of my neighbours on a Friday lunchtime. The pub was packed always a good sign and staff were friendly. I started with apple and chestnut soup which I had never had before and it was delicious, I then had butternut squash lasagne which was very tasty, everyone else had beef which was very tender. I then finished with some homemade baileys cheesecake again delicious There is a good selection of beers at the bar and can certainly recommend the Rose wine called scruffy dog!

We heard about this pub from friends in the village and booked a table. The menu is varied with meals like Lasagne, Cannelloni, roasts, local sausages (Wild Boar, which live in the surrounding forest), and many others. There is a children's menu also. Vegetables are fresh and locally grown, and many of the other ingredients are sourced locally.

Great tour of the mine. Very interesting and informative. The guide was really good at explaining and he is clearly very passionate about what he does.. You can visit the site for free and without booking, but if you want to go on the mine tour you need to book and pay online via the website. Just beware that the café closes much earlier than advertised and also that some of the information on the website is out of date, including the café menu.
