I visit this pub about once a month to meet friends. The reason why we go there is the quality of the beer (excellent), the friendly nature of the owner and the cosiness of a genuine country pub. Pies available on a Friday, and the Sunday lunch is not to be missed.

Twelve of us went to celebrate my 63rd birthday. Our ages were between 4 and 89. It was my first visit here, though my daughter had been before and recommended it. I can honestly say the Sunday lunch was one of the best I've ever had. We all had standard portions, apart from one large and two small. All were generous sized. The grandchildren had kids meals. The food was piping hot, and brilliant taste and flavour. The Yorkshire pudding was just like home made - perfect. The desserts were spot on as well. The only trouble was, it was all so good that I ate too much!! The staff were most welcoming, efficient and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere was great too. It has that genuine country local feel to it. We came away well satisfied, and will certainly be back again. Highly recommended. It doesn't get better than this! *****

We stayed in a holiday home up the road and popped in one night for a drink. Lovely pub, landlord was really friendly - nice beer, he even lent us a pack of cards :) Best bit was when the landlady (I think) came out with some amazing home made sausage rolls - deffo recommend this place if you want a real, genuine, local pub feel with nice beer.

Best sunday lunch any where in the county, backed up by the best cheesecake if you can fit one in. Great local beers served in a lovely warm friendly environment and i am fortunate to call it my local.

Lovely local pub with brilliant staff and a cosy atmosphere, log burner makes it feel like you’re sitting in your own front room. Locals are really friendly and lots of alcoholic options. The pub hosts events frequently, the latest being an 80’s night which was loads of fun and extremely entertaining. There is a large pool room upstairs and TV’s inside and outside to watch sports. Sunday lunches are the best I’ve ever had and I couldn’t recommend this pub anymore.

If I'm honest, the girlfriend and I only picked this pub as it was the closest one to where we were staying. We were glad we did though! We timed the walk as some reviews say it's 5/10mins. Took us 20mins, though the local farmers were very busy and we had to keep stopping to let tractors past. Took our dog with us, and it was a nice night so we sat outside at the back, although dogs are allowed inside. Looked like the rear area was having a bit of a refurb, but it didn't cause any problems. Was still a really nice little area to sit and chat. The menu was limited when we went, so we both had paninis which is something we'd never usually go for. Well they were absolutely delicious!!!!! Only popped inside to use the loo, but it looked like what a proper pub should do! The footie was on on the outside TV and we got chatting to a really friendly group of local lads (mainly about dogs). To summarise - It takes 20mins to walk there from the Tranquil Otter. The Landlord & Landlady are extremely lovely people. The pub is just what you want from a pub. The locals are a friendly bunch. The food is excellent. Oh, and they welcome dogs. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely make a point of stopping off here for an evening.

Almost don't want to tell people how good this pub is, so I can still get in! Not many places have real ale and real cider but they have quite the selection here so thumbs up from us. We ate here for the first time today (Sunday roast) the food was fantastic, I had honey mustard glazed ham and my wife had plain roast ham with all the trimmings, spot on. Followed by white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. The pub landlord is very welcoming and you can tell he cares about his customers. Will we go back again? Almost definitely!

We went with the in-laws and our newborn baby for Sunday lunch. Fantastic food, lovely welcome, friendly staff, nice warm atmosphere, very accommodating and good choice of drinks. We had different mains (beef, turkey and honey roast ham) and a couple of starters which were lovely, all were cooked brilliantly, generous portions and great taste. The deserts were just as good too. The only difficulty will be deciding what to eat next time as it was all very good. Thanks

Just to the west of Carlisle is the village of Moorhouse home of the Royal Oak. The Royal Oak has an excellent atmosphere and a 'stove' stile fire, the staff are friendly and they do an excellent home cooked rost beef dinner (on a Sunday) available in small, standard and large. My dad had the standard which was a good plate full, as was the small (which I had) so the large must be large. The beef was lovely and tender and the Yorkshire Pud was a good size. Well worth a visit.

booked a table for my family to celebrate my 70 th birthday. when we arrived we were informed they were having a rock and roll bingo charity night. we were allocated a small inadequate table and they were not doing the normal menue but a buffet. needless to say we did not stay. Why did they not inform us? This indicates they actually do not care about their customers unless they fit in with their plans. They do not deserve to have customers when they treat them like this. My family had travelled 120 miles to visit me and celebrate my birthday. Shame on you Royal Oak.

We were staying near by so popped in for food and drinks . The pub is very welcoming with a lovely roaring log burner . Staff very friendly and welcoming and have lots of treats for dogs . Only downside is I thought the food would be home cooked food . It wouldn't put me off returning though as the food that was served was still nice .

This might be better when busy, Saturday lunchtime we were the only diners. Food nothing special but landlord was very pleasant, should probably give it another chance.

We accidentally arrived here after booking the Royal Oak, only to find that there are several in the area and that our booking was with another one over 6 miles away! The owners are brilliant and offered to open the kitchen even though they don’t usually serve food on a Wednesday, much to the delight of both our 14 and 11 month babies. We had great food, great service and not only that, but as the road back to our lodgings isn’t well lit, the owners even took us (4 adults and 2 babies) back to our lodgings down the road. I can’t recommend this place enough, it’s made our visit and the kindness and service from the owners is something we’ve never experienced before. So, if your even in the area and you need a nice place to drink or eat, We highly recommend the Royal Oak Inn.

This Traditional style country pub has undergone massive changes since the new owners took over late last year, there is a warm and friendly atmosphere awaiting you, the drinks selection is as good as any City centre establishment and the food which is currently only on Sunday’s but with plans to extend to all week in the near future is fantastic, they host themed nights and cater for every body’s needs, this includes food intolerances and it’s a must to give this place a try .

Worst pub in England. It's like someone's fron room. As soon as we went in voices dropped to listen in. This pub needs to start again.

Attended a reunion with friends here, private dining on the terrace, the service was appalling, they had 3 large parties and obviously insufficient staff. The starter arrived some 25 minutes late, tepid soup, not very appetising, then a 55 minute wait for the mains, overcooked beef and lukewarm veg, no gravy, the a wait for sweet, sticky toffee pudding, can't go wrong with that, oh yes they could, pudding had sort of crust on it and was served with a miniscule portion of ice cream. All in all a huge disappointment and not what we expected, they really need to up their game.

The best coffee in Brampton! We love coming here for coffee and breakfast. Very friendly owner, Emma and her lovely baristas work hard to get your order just right. There are a great range of coffee, tea and home made cakes as well as savoury hot food. The place is often bustling with cosy chat, interesting art work on the walls (Emma has artist’s displays each month) and it’s also dog friendly too. Just a great place.

Accommodated a last-minute booking due to poor bookings at other local eatery. The food was exceptional and plentiful. Staff were very welcoming and nice to chat to. Bar was fully stocked, and overall, the price was very reasonable for a couple.
