Excellent ales under new ownership

Went for the weekend, met by a fantastic shoot party, and they welcomed me all weekend to join them, food, drinks, showed me around the ahoot area, farm areas, met their dogs. Food was great. Great pub/hotel/place/area all round

Can't comment as was closed at noon on a Friday when its website says it's open all day with food 12-2pm. Unfortunately we had walked two hours to have lunch there. Unsure whether it was a staffing emergency or perhaps couldn't be bothered opening?

I visited the Royal Oak at Luxborough last night and was pleasantly greeted by an exceptionally friendly shooting party. Instantly I was made to feel welcome by both the staff and the party, everyone was in good spirits and having a fun time. I ordered the sea bass with lobster bisque which was stunning, followed by a chocolate and salted caramel mouse. As I was eating alone the party welcomed me to sit with them, which was followed by pleasant conversation and lots of banter. I will 100% be returning. Great night had by all, I shall see you in the New Year.

I went for a meal out to the Royal Oak with a couple of friends on a Monday evening. As soon as we walked through the door we were met by a group of around ten men (hunt party) sitting in a circle in the main bar, they proceeded to leer at us and loudly comment about us (3 women) They carried on harassing us all evening to the point we didn’t feel comfortable going to the toilet or bar. It was a shame as the food and drinks were lovely. The barman/waiter apologised numerous times and I felt bad for him but in retrospect I think he should have pulled them up on their behaviour tbh. If you are women looking to have a nice evening eating and drinking without being harassed I wouldn’t recommend going here.

Wonderful food a gastronomic treat! Room was a tad chilly and TV unresponsive. Don't sit in the locals seat!

The landlord was very welcoming and courteous. I arrived before opening time but he made time for me. Superb location. Loads of character.

The FOOD is amazing!! A welcome oasis on a rainy evening with a lovely fire and absolutely fabulous food. We had the sea bass and the Indian. I would definitely recommend, the chef is truly gifted!
