Sadly whilst the food looked nice, but we didn't get to taste it. Two young girls in charge and were very slow and disorganised. We waited in a queue to order for 10mins then told to sit down then continued to wait. Walked out. Shame! Better tea shops in this lovely village. Try the Copper Kettle

Waited outside for quite a while then once we sat down we were asked ‘You’re not wanting food are you?’ Well that was the plan! Left speechless and unfed!

Really really love this gorgeous little cafe in Dulverton. Always delicious food, great vegan/vegetarian choices and all local produce. Mortimers is the only cafe open on a Monday and can be busy but the lovely, young hardworking girls are efficient and pleasant and make fabulous barista coffee!! The food is well worth the wait. Highly highly recommend 👏👏👏👏

Couldn’t be bothered to serve us after telling us to sit down and they would take the order from the table. We waited half an hour then left, very poor service. Not recommended.

Absolutely LOVE this small establishment in beautiful Dulverton- The food is scrumptious with great barrista coffee & bubble tea- The young waitresses are hardworking and efficient in the ONLY cafe open on a Monday- The girls cope well with sometimes impatient and RUDE customers which myself and my friend unbelievably witnessed- Well done Mortimers 👏 Delicious and a pleasure to sit and relax in your chilled atmosphere and music 🎶

Updated 20240719: Joy of joys, the originals are back after the break last year. Fantastic food, great choice of cakes, fabulous coffee and tea. Highly recommended, go visit this place and fill your boots with culinary goodness. Note that the burgers come without chips, so you can fill up with cake afterwards if - and that's a big if - you still have room. Originally: Such a good place to be. We stopped off for a cup of tea and coffee first, then did done shopping, and then went back for lunch. The BBQ Moo burger, a wonderfully cooked through slab of meat nestled within a rustic brioche (yes, brioche, not ciabatta) with a delightfully spicy mango chutney, was fabulous. The spinach and mushroom omelette was herby and filling and came with three little pickles and chutneys (beetroot, mango, and a curried onion one) and was delicious. Topped off with a couple of elderflower pressées and a good meal was had. Service was slow but then all the tables were taken it being lunchtime. If you were in a rush, then go before 12 or after 1330. But if you are happy chatting and working out what to do next, and wondering if you could fit in a sliver of one of the amazing cakes afterwards, then this relaxed family- and dog friendly place is for you. Did I mention the cafetière coffee is to die for? It has a soul of its own, and lets you know it's there while still in the pot. A single sniff will wake the dead, enliven your tongue, and bring colour to your cheeks. Hugely recommended.

Came here last year when it was Mad Hatters, but now it's Mortimer's and it's definitely gone downhill. Staff turned away outsiders wanting hot food but local builders were accommodated. We only had coffee and cake but the service was poor. This business deserves to go bust.

Gone back to mortimers and absolutely shocking. Half of the jacket potato we had was hard. As for the puddings, one was inedible. Told the staff and they weren’t bothered. Was still charged for it and at £5 felt totally ripped off. The other pudding was charged £1 for a dollop of squirty cream. Waited over half an hour for someone to collect our plates and order pudding, when no one came I went to counter to order. Had to get up twice to let people in/out of table behind us, was so squashed in. We are locals and so disappointed it’s no longer Mad Hatters. Won’t be going again and certainly won’t recommend. P.S the only positive was the cappuccino was nice

What a little gem of a café! Service is excellent, friendly and personal. Dog-friendly. The burger is the best I have ever had, using local Exmoor-raised Dexter beef, with blue cheese & mushrooms. The Welsh-rarebit, cakes and cream teas are also superb. We’d eat here every day if we could.

It's now called Mad Hatter's. The food was wow and very generous portions. I had a baguette with sausage, bacon, fried egg and black pudding with side salad more like a breakfast in a baguette which filled me for most of the day. Prices are very reasonable especially compared to other establishments. The restaurant is clean and staff and owners very friendly. The cafe has a mad hatter's tea party theme. We'll worth the journey from Minehead to eat there and look around the small village.

This cafe has changed hands recently and seems to be trading as the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. We went in because it advertised fair trade coffee which we always aim to buy for ethical reasons. The cake was good and the coffee was OK but it did not seem to be fair trade as I was told it was Dowe and Egberts who are not, to my know a fair trade company.

What a fantastic little place. The two girls serving were incredibly polite, friendly and helpful. An easy 10/10 for customer service. Unfortunately the owner was away so they were only doing cakes and hot drinks. I opted for a toasted teacake and possibly the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Hopefully we will be back in the week for some lunch.

Popped in for lunch today, lovely little place food looked lovely but from the moment we walked in there was no one to be seen! No staff no one behind the counter, we waited 5 minutes picked up some menus off the counter and still no one appeared when eventually someone did appear they didn't come over or approach us to apologise for keeping us, or indeed never even acknowledged us saying they would be with us in a moment. I think the gentleman serving was on his own but we still didn't get any apology or explanation so in the end we left after 10 minutes of being ignored 😠😠

Ice cream and coffee were amazing, and the owner's daughters helping out were the most diligent of staff! I'll liked it so much we went back for food after out walk. Went for fish and chips before going to the cinema and it was great. Easily the best fish I’ve ever had; the batter was nice and crispy and the fish was flaky and fresh. The chips were also great. The guy on the till was really friendly and the whole place had a really nice atmosphere.

Great place ruined by the £7 per night extra charge for parking now if you stay at premier inn, and when the prices are already high for rooms theses days, and yes you’ll say we don’t own the car park 🙄 but nothing is stopping you reducing it for customers
267 Opinions
Rude and unpleasant staff not caring about the customers. Inappropiate comments and behaviour towards the group of young people who had fun and celebrated (no alcohol involved). I felt very unwelcomed and the way I was served at the bar was shocking. Seems that members of staff don't care about the income they just want the customers not to bother them. Absolutely shocking.
