My friend and I booked for lunch on Thursday, lovely pub very friendly, I had a steak pie that was fine my friend had a chicken that was lovely, then we ordered desserts mine a chocolate brownie with salted caramel, it was all chocolate and chocolate sauce my friend had apple crumble , it came in a dish which was full of what looked and tasted like apple sauce with a tiny sprinkle of crumble on top we were both disappointed, my friend left nearly all of his, we mentioned it to the young barman and asked him to mention it to chef, we sat for a while longer then went to pay our bill, and I asked the young barman what was the chefs reply and he told us oh I didn’t tell him, my criticism was constructive and I’m disappointed he didn’t mention it so chef could put it right for the next customer.

I'm a veggie and there's a small but decent selection. Great atmosphere and very friendly team. Everyone was welcomed as though they were regulars. Great parking and facilities. Clean and efficient service

Beautiful little bar/restaurant. Stopped by with out planning because we liked the old 15th century building. The Swordfish steak was perfect, and they even made a ploughman's which was not on the menu. Very friendly and accommodating. Prices were very reasonable. Dishes were very well decorated, and made you wan to eat the food just because it looked so good.

We wanted a good old fashioned Roast dinner on Sunday and we all agree that value for money and the quality of food served was excellent we will definitely eat their again, we where given more vegies than we could eat and the beef was excellent, then we had the apple crumble with custard!! suffice it to say with full tums we didn't need to eat anything else on Sunday when we got home. The Landlord is good old fashioned type with a smile and a real feel good greeting for customers. There is a nice range of beers and other drinks to choose from

YOU CAN'T GO WRONG HERE!! If you want have a great English meal in a 15th Century Pub, then this is the place. We were lucky enough to arrive on 'Fish Friday' and Michael the Chef didn't disappoint with his wonderful cooking. The service was excellent as well, with Emma providing friendly and helpful attention to everything we wanted.

We had booked a table for 7 for 2 p.m. All was going well with a very knowledgeable and agreeable waitress, who understood the concept of gluten free (believe me this is not always the case!) for myself, took our order only to return and say they had run out of lamb! 5 of our party had requested the lamb, I find it inconceivable that a busy pub/restaurant can run out of something. We had to change to beef, and a fish dish for me. Starters prior to this were fine, apart from one member of our party being forgotten and the rest of us and nearly finished ours before her's arrived - not good. When the main courses arrived the beef was difficult to see because it was smothered in gravy - we all said the gravy should have been in a gravy boat. My fish dish was excellent, and the selection of veg was equally as good. So, if the landlord reads this and takes into account our niggles, I would recommend his pub for a great Sunday lunch.

Highly recommend this establishment for first class service & an excellent choice of food. Have eaten here now 3 times & never once been disappointed. Food is served freshly cooked & piping hot. A good selection of vegetables always available. We have been told on all occasions when we have ordered our meal that it will be approx 20 mins. Never been kept waiting any longer. Very obliging with the sweet menu. Instead of sharing a sweet you can order a half portion so you can both have one of your own choice ( if you have room for one).

Saturday evening meal. Nice atmosphere and a pleasant space. Good choice of dishes for starters and main course. Food was tasty and hot. We all enjoyed our meals. Paid approx £20 per head for starter plus main course excluding drinks. Would have preferred a menu at the table rather than having to walk over to boards on the wall. Service was slow and we were left with our dishes for longer than I would have preferred. We had to go to the bar to order more drinks and to get the bill. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Need to change some of the CD's as a couple of them were jumping badly. Will go again.

On arrival, there was no greeting from the lady behind the bar. We almost felt that we were not at all welcome in the pub. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent food. It such a pity that overall it was not a good experience due to an indifferent member of staff. We'll try again as the food was so good. If we get the same lack of attention, we will not be visiting again. SUCH A PITY !!

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch. The food was fresh and lovely selection of vegetables. I suggest you book a table as it was busy. The desserts are expensive but the portions are huge. Perhaps cut the potion size and reduce the price. Guess there is a lot of wastage. The portion size did not tempt me. I had a Bailly's coffee which was lovely. We popped in for a drink the day before and there was no ice or lunch menu ready. At this point 12.30ish customers for meals were arriving. There are tables outside and the area is well kept. The bar and toilets are very clean. A good place for lunch.

Pleasant pub, food choice good, ideal location and good beer. On the slight minus side, found lady running the please a little off putting. When you reserve a table, it would have been a good idea to attach our names To the gold "reserved" table tag. As I made the error of just sitting down at a random table for "two" only to be told to move !! This was not necessary, as we had eaten and gone before my first choice table Had been required ! Charm school offensive required I feel

Food was ok - fresh produce, but not much choice for me. Pub itself is very nice and cosy, although the person behind the bar was a little cold and not very inviting. If it's busy, you tend to have to stand to have just a drink as all the tables are used for food bookings.

This pub has been doing a roaring business for the last year or so, since it was re-opened after a period of closure. The relaunch has been going for a time, and after an itially good start, keeps getting better. Of particular note is the SUnday Roasts, which are probably the best in the area, being succulent and prepared with a nice selection of side vegatables for those that want them. If you ask, you can also get the huge Yorkshires included, even if not having the beef. Another area that has become a village tradtion is "Pie Night", where there is a selection of incredible value, and great quality pies up for grabs. But you would be best to book for this, as it is very, very popular. The rest of the time the food is excellent with a selection of reasonable priced main courses, of which only the poorest drop down to being simply good food. So this is a good bet, especially at the start of the week when many other "vale" resturants are closed.

Call me a leprechaun and get me a pot because ive found gold. What a pub! Every village pub has its uniquity but this one has knocked them out the park. Inside a stunning building is one of the friendliest places ive been to. The staff (Chloe in particular) were so welcoming they made mother Teresa look like Pol Pot. I have no doubt this pub has been around for 2 millenia, because if jesus was to have a ‘last supper’ it mustve been here. The chefs worked a miracle in that kitchen. If my girlfriend wasnt there to tell me off for bad manners i wouldve licked the plate clean. Every local to Waltham on the Wolds should feel privileged to have this at your doorstep. Bloody brilliant

A lovely meal, the staff were all so friendly, nothing is too much trouble, food was good too, would love to see some specials available to keep the menu varied as some times need a change, otherwise all great, love the new refurbishment too, highly recommend

I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.

Had tapas. All excellent and very tasty. I am gluten intolerant and often feel quite restricted, so its really nice to have choices.

Super busy for Saturday lunch. They were a bit understaffed, but super efficient and motivated. Lovely food, great atmosphere and although we are not local, our 5 visits have all been very enjoyable.
