Their Facebook page announced a new Curry Night for this pub on Saturday. These fairly new 'tenants' I believe are reaching out to fulfil their new menu idea. We'd not been to this pub for a few years as it had never been a particularly friendly place to go into. When we went in, there were a lot of working men at the bar and a decent amount of noise they were making. The two female staff were holding up well and showed us to table for two in the adjacent dining room They took our drink order which is inc with the food..We ordered our vegan curries which were very good and enjoyed our evening. The staff were fairly attentive, but the whole pub decor and atmosphere is dull, uninviting, and plain. The walls are all different colours and paintwork in need of TLC. There are no curtains and it feels spartan . Not cosy nor particularly welcoming. It may be work in progress. The bar area is a little better but some personality, plants, paintings, some nick nacks or interesting small trivia to give life. The food is good and staff are good but they'll have to work hard to keep it going without some handwork on the decorative. I wish them good luck

Very disappointed as this is the second time on a Saturday night. That I have tried to get into the pub with 10 friends tonight. It is advertised that the pub is open till 12am. The lights were on and could hear voices but door was locked. I even tried ringing and was cut off. Very disappointed for a village pub 😔

Warm welcome at mid-day, table set ready with Christmas crackers for a dozen folk. A perfect main course with a generous helping of meat and turkey, from the choice ofdesserts, apple pie with custard was the favourite and finishing with tea or coffee to suite tastes. A real pleasure to have the pub to ourselves, with time for us to catch up into the afternoon. The price per head was very acceptable.

We have been meaning to visit our local pub for a meal for some time. We were not disappointed. Our meal was beautifully cooked, generous portions, service with a smile and a reasonable price. My Masala Chicken accompanied by garlic potatoes and fresh veg was amazing. We will be going back. Locals and those travelling from further afield will not be disappointed. Give this a place a try. It has been transformed by the current Landlord and his wife.

Great ambience, delicious and beautifully presented food and excellent service. Absolutely love the look and feel of this pub, from the "linger a little longer" feel of the snug room to the airy dining room to the sociable vibe of the pub area. The owners (south african couple) are wonderful hosts and will make your visit worthwhile.

Booked in for a family Sunday lunch. We had a warm welcome from Sonja the landlady and ordered drinks, which were brought over to the table we had been set for. The actual restaurant part was empty on that day - but its a good size and could be a welcoming space. The food was delivered quickly, was hot and delivered on the promise of a good Sunday lunch - plates with beef and chicken served up. The accompanying plate of veg was possibly the largest have seen and it was really welcome as we all enjoy fresh tasty veg. The gravy was also hot and meaty - so overall it was a really good Sunday lunch. We then ordered desserts and to be fair these were a slight let down, at least for my wife and I. The menu choices we had ordered were sticky toffee pudding and apple pie - both with ice cream. The apple pie was a tart - which clearly was made with real apples as found a bit of a stalk. My sticky toffee pudding was more like a treacle sponge - nothing wrong with it per se, but it couldn't really be described as a STP, which is a pretty staple pub dessert. The chocolate brownie that are son had was excellent. Overall its very good and to be honest the first time we've been in our local for a long time! So some improvements could be made and then am sure it could get an excellent rating. We will be back to try out some of the other menu options. Perhaps that is one limitation is that Sunday is a fixed choice and perhaps could put some folks off from a regular Sunday there.

The Sunday Roast was extremely good. I went for the Chicken over the Beef and it was cooked to perfection - lovely strong flavour and succulent meat. The gravy was provided in a jug and was rich and a great consistency. I was impressed with the variety and organic taste of the veg. I was very impressed with this roast and will recommend it to my friends as an alternative to others around Swindon. Also, our waiter was very polite and knowledgeable of the menu. PS. My only small criticism was that there was no vegetarian option for the Roast. Instead, my GF had the Veggie Burger and said it was also good in comparison to other standard veggie burger options.

We thoroughly enjoyed another wonderful Sunday lunch yesterday at The Royal George in Purton. Again we were made to feel so welcome by Kaz and Sonja. The surroundings have been massively improved since they took over the tenancy of this small country pub but , it still retains a lovely warm and cosy feel. The lunch itself was excellent ( perfectly cooked beef) and very generously sized portions. We will certainly be back

After reading the superb reviews we thought we would try here. It was very quiet for Sunday lunch which is always concerning for a place offering a good lunch. The waiter, although a nice chap did not have a clue. We asked what the soup of the day was, after a wait He returned to say there was "no soup". We then asked what the pate of the week was, after another wait, we were told there was no pate in the fridge! We discussed leaving at this point as we both felt a little "in the way"! We decided to stay when we saw another couples roasts being served, as they looked good. We reluctantly ordered prawn cocktails, my husband ate his, but I didn't like the huge, chewy prawns, bitter salad leaves and sickly sauce. The meats on the roasts were delicious, and the vast amount of vegetables were nice. The yorkshire pudding was a mushy mess as it had been covered with copious amounts of gravy. I ordered a floater coffee, but was told it wasn't available. Husband had treacle pudding and custard which he thoroughly enjoyed. It's a shame.....a few tweeks would make this a nicer place to have Sunday lunch.

Went here with a local group for our annual Christmas Dinner and was not disappointed. Good value, three course meal of tasty food and delivered by excellent serving staff.Choice of three starters on menu and it was rather unusual to have onion marmalade and piccalilli accompaniments with a salmon starter. Main course of turkey was very flavoursome and big side dishes of vegetables were provided along with extra roasted potatoes. Lots of gravy but this tended to be rather too salty for my palate. The cheesecake dessert was suitably indulgent and calorific. The waitresses worked hard and were very polite and efficient. It's not a Michelin star restaurant and the quality of the food for the price paid was very impressive. Would have given it a five stars rating but the food could have been served hotter. I think this was just an issue due to the fact that 24+ meals were being served at the same time in what must be a small kitchen. The chef came out to the tables at the end of the meal and was keen to get feedback. Will visit again and try their food themed evenings.

Our first visit to this cozy country pub. We were a larger group of 8 so we had table set up in on our own in their dining area which had been cleared for evening music. The menu choices were great and we all struggled to make a selection, changing our minds as they all sounded good. The young waitress who looked after us was great as she also tended the bar. But she kept checking in on us regularly. The food itself was fantastic and certainly large portions. Everyone enjoyed their meal and empty plates all round except for one who literally couldn't finish it all!No room for desserts unfortunately. Except for our smallest member of the group who had ice cream. How he packed away 4 scopes I don't know. He even got a few extra biscuit straws from the chef!Starter, main and drink for £20 each on average. Great food, fantastic value and really nice people. Thoroughly recommend.

I regularly visit this pub with friends, family and dog. The bar staff are extremely friendly and it is obvious that they take huge pride in the establishment. I've known this pub over the last 15 years and it has seen its fair share of disappointments in the past along with a long spell of being closed completely. It's fantastic to see it live and kicking again with regular events all throughout the year, also to include their first annual beer festival. Which from my point of view was a massive success and I hope that continues. I have eaten in the establishment on more than a number of occasions. The restaurant area is modern and comfortable, clean and tidy with a very nice homely feeling (which I think is important in a village pub). I have no complaints about what I have ordered and there is a great range of food to choose from at a commendable price. (Sharing platter is always a good shout on a weekday evening)All in all I would certainly recommend this pub too anybody who enjoys good food good real ale and a good old chin wag with lots of friendly people.

We have continued to support the pub, but have noticed a drastic decline in the quality of the food over the last few months. They have had a few issues with chefs leaving, and now the landlady is in the kitchen, but her cooking is simply not up to scratch.Massive shame as its a lovely pub with HUGE potential. We drove to the Royal George from Bournemouth to meet up with family members whom we had not seen for a long time. I had previously reserved a table and received an extremely courteous acknowledgment. The drive there turned out to be arduous due to a slow moving lorry on narrow roads, but on arrival we were warmly greeted and could take our pick of the tables in the empty restaurant. We were promptly seated and asked if we required drinks on that very warm day, and they were brought immediately by the smiley waitress. After some deliberation we ordered, and then more people arrived, to fill some of the tables. The lady chef came out to apologise that the fish and chips was not available due to a huge demand the previous day, but there was plenty of choice on the extensive menu. I ordered the beef chilli which could be had normal or extra hot, and I declined the extra hot, and Mrs Gopher had smoked salmon pasta which she enjoyed, although it was a little light on the smoked salmon. The other two members of our party ordered vegetarian meals for which they had no complaints. After, two of us shared a delicious dessert and we also had coffee. To summarise, we had an excellent meal for a reasonable price in pleasant surroundings. We went for a short walk around Purton before the drive back but there is not much of note there, except a hideous row of ugly shops, which is totally out of keeping with the rest of the area. How any town council could approve such an eyesore is beyond me.

Just tried our first Sunday lunch courtesy of Mel and Eddie at the George. The roast beef and turkey were succulent, tender and extremely generous in portion size. Add to that the large selection of roasted potatoes, parsnips and other steamed vegetables, and not forgetting the stunning cauliflower and broccoli gratin, topped with a Yorkshire pudding (home made of course), and trimmed with lashings of gravy. The beef was both thick and tender when cut and the turkey fell to pieces. We finished the meal off with the latest addition to the desert menu, a selection of seven different petits fours desserts served with a raspberry and champagne coulis which was fantastic. What's not to like!! There have been some comings and goings recently with chefs, but Mel's repertoire and cooking skills are top notch, you need to try it out!,

If you are searching for a pub with nice food, away from the usual "pub grub" 2for1 style meals, then look no further. It is a bit off the beaten track but worth making a slight detour. The new owners have greatly improved the car park and surrounding area. They are obviously making an effort to make the Royal George an above average pub, whilst still retaining the friendly, pub atmosphere. We called in for lunch, today, and were not disappointed. We are happy to recommend the Royal George to anyone looking for something a bit better than the "chain" pubs.

Visited for the second time since the change in management as part of two couples for valentines and unfortunately the food was not as good as our first visit.I believe the chef has been changed and sadly, not for the better. My starter was presented as pate, although it said terrine on the menu. Not that I mind, they are nearly there same thing, but to be condescendingly 'corrected' by the waitress/owner was unnecessary. It was she who disagreed with her own menu....My main meal was under cooked. A cheese and leek tart with raw pastry. My partner had the fish which was dry and well over cooked. The waitress/owner was over familiar with my partner which wasn't appropriate considering we were out for valentines, or any other night come to think of it...Screaming babies at 10pm on the next table are a problem on any night but especially valentines, considering our friends had been good enough to get a baby sitter so they didn't disturb the other diners. One small dish of veg between 4 and bought in deserts Plastic roses on valentines night just finished off a bad meal. For me to go back to The Royal George, the owners would need to get the old chef back and keep their hands off my partner

We have been to the Royal George twice now first time on Boxing day and again last Sunday both times the food has been excellent and service 2nd to none. My father-in-law who is 91 and very frail is made very welcome and treated with great respect, he speaks very highly of the food, service and the wine. There is a good selection of wines, real ale's and fizzy stuff called larger. We will be going again soon.

Royal George is a traditional village pub probably not unlike many others HOWEVER, the thing that makes it great is the team that run it. Mel, Eddie and Derek. The three of them make a great team with Mel and Eddie front of house and Derek working his magic in the kitchen. The menu is good and the food reasonably priced. If you are out and about near Swindon would def go into Purton, only a few minutes from the M4, well worth it. I know that the pub has had a refurb but its not going to be long before the dining room needs to be extended so that there is room for a carvery. If you are a veggie try Derek's homemade brie and beetroot tart, YUM!

Still a very traditional pub but with a nice dining area, the landlady was a breath of fresh air and i`m sure will make this into a lovely village pub. A excellant pub food menu with good qulaity produce and well presented, also very good portions on served on hot plates and a attitude that nothing was too much trouble. Will be going back for the service, food and good pricing. Good Luck to the couple who seem to have an excellant vision for the Pub.

Seven of us went out last night and had our first meal yesterday at The George and we must say the food was Superb, the home made chips where delicious and the food was really good value. None of us could fault any thing. The new land lady (Mel) made us feel very welcome and we have already booked to go back. The new decor is clean and fresh and this is definitely the best pub in the area, thanks to the new land lords and the chef.

We called into this pub on the way back from London after reading the good reviews on here. It was def worth the 10 min out of the way drive from the m/way.It seemed a much loved locals pub but as strangers we were made to feel very welcome from both the staff and other customers.Tables were well laid although restaurant a fraction cold for our early 6pm meal.Food was excellent, good quality and quantity. It also came out piping hot.We will def come back again and would recommend the place to others.

Full credit to the new publicans they have completely turned this village pub around. Purton has waited a long time for a real village pub that is friendly and serves great food. The menu has something to suit all tastes and the specials are top - to the point you can't decide which one to try! Our meal was well presented, steaming hot and the meat just melted in your mouth - far superior to many local restaurants. The good reputation is slowly spreading and I hope it continues as this pub deserves the trade and us locals want it to stay!

I have just come back from having a meal at The George and I just had to write what I thought about it as soon as I got back. The food was absolutely delicious and not over priced. The atmosphere was warm and toasty and Mel really looked after us. I would recommend that you go check this pub out.

After quite a few years of not having a very good reputation, The Royal George has considerably moved up the scale to a pretty decent pub with very good, affordable food!! Ate here tonight and couldn't fault meal - served very hot (staying hot all though meal), amazing real chips (served in mini chip basket), menu is comprehensive with as many specials as on main menu!!! Landlady (Mel) was attentive without being too much! purton needs a decent pub - please support it!! We'll certainly be back!!

A lovely village pub that serves tasty food at very good value for money. A few small improvements could make a difference- lose the plastic roses on the tables, play some background music in the restaurant and be more aware of your customers. We sat chatting for 1 hour at our table with no offer of dessert menu, another drink or coffee. We could have gone to bar- but there was only one other table! We will def be back though as food was great and with decent wine at 14 a bottle it's hard to see benefits of staying in and cooking!!

First time eating in this newly refurbished pub/restaurant, although had visited it prior to its refurbishment.Although the new landlords have had an uphill battle to bring it back from the grave, they have turned the Royal George into a welcoming and pleasant eating establishment. With a booked table we arrived with friends to a roaring open fire for drinks, before sitting in the Restaurant for a fantastic 3 course meal. The food was of a very high standard, well presented with a very friendly service by the landlady Mel.A pleasant surprise at the end of the evening after having excellent food and a few bottles of wine was the bill which showed great value for money. We shall be regular visitors and have booked to bring friends next weekend.

Stopped on a trip from Cinderford to Romsey , have driven past many times but never had time to stop, husband and son had ‘small ‘ breakfast and I had toast and jam, the breakfast was a great size, quickly served and tasted great, really good value for money . Toilets and rest of premises are really clean and can’t wait to visit again

Popped into here on a recommendation while cycling. Lovely hidden spot with great cakes and coffee. Bike friendly with lots of bike parking, pumps and spare tubes. Would definitely recommend a stop here!

Have been coming here about 4-5 times a year over the last 3 years. We were disappointed this time. I understand that they have moved a few animals around for grazing purposes however there wasnt as many animals as usual. I have always supported them as I love what they do and I understand animals are expensive with vet bills and with food. Which is why iv always felt the price was worthwhile and rather cheap for the costs animals take to maintain. However I left today feeling they should atleast move the signs when animals are moved as I couldn't remember which animals you can or can't feed. I feel atleast half the pens were empty :( and others were just a few more goats or pigs in them. The pens were overgrown in the unused pens. And the ducks very over grown. I asked where the missing animals were and was told they out graizing. It was hot but you can see when they in pens due to the layout. I just feel that a notice stating new layouts or even a sign or online update would be a better way to warn people not all animals as usual are around. There is definitely alot less sheep than usual. I'm disappointed this time. And we watched a budgie escape and the staff were left with a net that was so short they wouldn't be able to catch the bird. Unless sorted out I can not recommend to friends anymore due to being so sparse.

Ok so Lynne and I are back at The New Inn with friends having yet another superb meal. We have now eaten here a few times and I feel I should commend the staff and the chef ( who we found out his name was Ronnie ) very nice touch when he comes out of the kitchen personally to ask if everything is ok. Once again superb service and our friends also commented on how lovely this superb pub/restaurant is. Even when we pop in for a snack Pizza that is just superb. Well done all at The New Inn. we certainly will be back and so will our friends. You guys deserve to do well as you always go the extra mile. Thank you, so refreshing in this day and age . We will be booking for a meal again l this Saturday night with some more friends. all the very best Ian & Lynne
