Was good but prices are dramatically higher We used to use regularly as a couple and as a family during the summer It's a pity because food is nice

Without doubt the worst Chinese meals i have ever tasted...Chicken Chow Mein....bone dry ...The 1st time i ever had chow mein with no soy sauce in the bottom of the dish....Chicken Satay ....Mote like Onion Satay without the Satay....mostly vegetables and not even the slightest hint of Satay sauce whether that be flavour or able to see any sauce...Although i know it has changed hands i used this shop when it was the Royal Cottagd for over 30 years ....NEVER AGAIN...BLAND TASTELESS AND A WASTE OF MONEY ....With the amount of competition i would be surprised if this takeaway survives...Never complained about takeaway food in my life .....Disgraceful

I have ordered from here too many times to remember, the food is amazing and the staff are equally the same. If there is something that you require that's not in the menu or if you want to enhance something in the menu that's to your taste then dont hesitate to ask, they will be more than happy accomodate your request. #bestweechineseinek.

Would b 0 but won't allow!!! Can not fault food if u get what u oder!!!home delivery and 3 visits to get right meal as missed 2 items from oder then get new order made up only for another item to be missing woman on phone got cheeky with partner after they have messed up go bk to shop with order again to get cheek!!!!! Sorry who pay's ur wage???? If u mess customers about you'll not have any!!!!!! Therefore no business.

Would never use another Chinese takeaway in EK,this place can't be beaten....the delivery is so fast and piping hot,the food is amazing...5 star everytime

Used this place years ago, decided to give it a try again. Because every other Chinese takeaway pretty poor. Don’t know if it was a one off, but wow fantastic, definitely will use again just Hope it’s as good.

I love this place. It’s actually now called ‘China Cottage’ - not sure why this hasn’t been updated. Anyway, we recently moved near here and honestly, the food is S U P E R B ! They do a really great value meal deal, both a saver one and a Meal for 1, 6.50 and 9.80 respectively, with the saver one being time limited but the 9.80 one not : you can have that any time ! The best thing about both of these though is that you are not restricted : you can choose seafood, chef l’s specials, anything for your meal deal ! It is a cracking bargain, and no compromise on quality whatsoever, especially compared to other EK Chinese takeaways. We used to go to Sizzling Wok but your meal deal there is restricted : you can only choose from 5 or 6 items, for example, when getting a meal deal. Not here - you can have the most expensive dish on the menu if you like ! And it’s still full size and the quality is honestly the best you’ll get in EK ! There are no exceptions ! That aside, the quality is again just exceptional. I’m actually really surprised that it’s so low key : it’s the best takeaway in EK by a mile. I might actually even say it’s the best Chinese takeaway I’ve used ! The battered salt & chilli chips are out of this world - amazing ! Honestly, so, so much nicer than any other salt & chilli chips from anywhere else in EK ! Listen, just go ! You’ll love it ! ☺️👍🏻

Visited subject premises for take away 13/12/18 ordered Beef Chow Mein it was just OK however so ordered dry chicken fried rice , when returned home the rice was dry like a re heat and the chicken was dripping in Gravy , horrid , it was late we were tired it went in the bin , it showed lack of care and attention to what your customer wants, premises very quiet maybe the word is out , in my opinion AVOID😡

Phoned for a takeaway which arrived within 13 minutes!! There's quick and then there's too quick... this was way to quick for my liking. Ordered prawn satay, prawns were awful, couldn't eat them, way too chewy. Think I'll try somewhere else next time.

Now known as China Cottage. Ordered a takeaway to be delivered. Took about 20 minutes. Barbecue spare ribs were really tasty. Also had sweet n sour chicken and chicken curry fried rice. Both were hot and tasty and plenty of it. I’m quite fussy when it comes to chicken curry but couldn’t fault it. The sweet n sour chicken balls were really crispy and there were loads. Enough for another meal tomorrow. Definitely is our preferred Chinese and we have tried most in EK.

Thursday November 30th 2017 & I'm looking through the takeaway menus in my house. My objective, to find a Chinese restaurant that does a reasonably priced Plain Omelette to go with the fact I fancied a Curry. I happened to come across the menu for China Cottage which I instantly recognised to be the old Royal Cottage in East Kilbride. I saw that China Cottage would do a Plain Omelette with Chips for only £4.50. Every other Chinese takeaway in East Kilbride can be easily £6.50 - £7 for a Plain Omelette & Chips which to be quite frank, is absolutely ridiculous. So, off I went to China Cottage & once inside, I could see it's had a refurbishment & looks lots better than it used to when it was the old Royal Cottage. I ordered my Plain Omelette including Chips, Breast Of Chicken Curry & a portion of Fried Rice. All came to a very reasonable £10.20 which qualified me for receiving a free portion of Prawn Crackers for spending over £10. Make no mistake, this wasn't the usual free portion of Prawn Crackers that only contain five or six Prawn Crackers, but this was indeed a full sized free portion, so well done China Cottage! Once home, I gave the Plain Omelette to my relative with the chips. Having sneeked a wee look, the Omelette was absolutely huge, taking up the full long silver foil container & the chips were a full portion bag too! I plated up my Breast Of Chicken Curry & Fried Rice, leaving half in a container for lunch the next day. What can I say? Vast amounts of Chicken Breast in my curry. Enough to feed two easily. Sauce whilst not the spiciest actually had a lovely taste to it which is a rarity from a Chinese takeaway restaurant in East Kilbride these days. Prawn crackers despite being a full size free portion were fresh & delicious. Not like the day or two old free portions of Prawn Crackers other Chinese takeaway restaurants try to get rid of by pretending to give you something free for spending a certain amount. The free Prawn Crackers from China Cottage were a genuine free portion that were fresh, delicious & crunchy. China Cottage, not only provided me with excellent fresh Chinese food. Free Prawn Crackers & great service. They also provided me the cheapest Plain Omelette & Chinese Curry in East Kilbride which was outstandingly brilliant. Keep up the great work to all the staff at China Cottage. With your great food, reasonably priced food & great service, you're sure to see me return time & time again. Well done China Cottage. Hats off to the Chef!

Formerly Royal Cottage, I bought my carry out from here for years till it dived beyond belief! A 2 year gap where I would not go near the place followed. I tried all the others. The Lantern. Jimmy Wans. All hit and miss in my opinion. I was told China Cottage was under new ownership and much improved so gave it a try again. Wow. Just wow! What a difference. I have held off reviewing for several months, but having practically eaten around the menu and had big orders when friends have come for dinner too, I can honestly say that there has not been one single dish that I have not loved! Best satay in EK. Beef, green pepper and black bean sauce is tender beyond belief! Genuinely melt in the mouth! Sweet and sour is the perfect balance. Just try it! Highly recommended.

Been using this Chinese for takeaways for years. Food is always good and their curries are superb. Deliveries are always very quick and prices are very reasonable especially there meal deals.

Poor service and food heard they changed owners recently but not sure willing to give it another chance

A lo largo de los años, este lugar ha cambiado de propietarios y, por lo tanto, la calidad ha ido subiendo y bajando un poco. Cuando abrió fue la mejor comida china para llevar en East Kilbride, y ha estado en el top cinco en el peor de los casos, en los últimos 20 años. Mi última comida fue, una vez más, uno de los mejores comidas para llevar que he tenido. Sin embargo, el miembro del personal me dijo que consigue porciones más pequeñas con la comida para uno. Así que, de hecho, si consigues porciones más pequeñas, que no equivalen a relación calidad-precio.

At first I thought it was ok but the chicken was cubed and foam like ( hate that ) sauce was good but they totally mixed the order up . over all not that impressed . Won't use again .

Have had a few takeawYs from here, great value for money if you are getting the special deal where you get soup main meals for a great price, staff helpful and friendly also, food is really good

Ordered the new slat and chilli box. Was very small in comparison to any other Chinese in EK but still 15 pounds. Also ordered chicken fried rice the chicken was questionable at best.

The Royal Cottage is situated in the Maxwellton area of Calderwood, East Kilbride.Being from East Kilbride, to me anyway this Chinese takeaway has always seemed to get bad reviews from people when asked if it is any good?Now back in July, I was doing my rounds of the Chinese takeaways within East Kilbride on a weekly basis when I decided to try The Royal Cottage.I decided to phone my order for collection. The person at the end of the phone was polite, courteous & took down my order correctly (Confirmed when I went to collect).I ordered,A breast of chicken curry (Chopped)Fried RicePrawn CrackersAn extra portion of curry sauceThe quality & quantity of the chicken contained in my curry surprised me. As I said, to me, The Royal Cottage, I was always told was one to avoid.I thought my chicken curry, fried rice & prawn crackers were absolutely delicious. The sauce had a nice spice to it. Now its not the spiciest curry sauce you can get in East Kilbride (That would be Marlboro or Asian Fusion) but it was nice all the same.Fried rice tasted extremely fresh & the portion of prawn crackers were plentiful.The best thing about it all, besides the quality was the price. Under £10 for my order which makes The Royal Cottage one of the cheapest Chinese takeaways (At least for what I normally order) in East Kilbride.Very impressed with the service & quality provided by The Royal Cottage.

I cannot quite believe the level of poor service I have just had. I phoned this place a second time as I loved the food! Wanted a home delivery, and to pay over the phone as I had done before and my partner has done many times before. He wouldn't take payment over the phone. I asked again why? I was told they don't take payment over the phone. Interesting, since as a couple we have paid over the phone many times. I asked to speak to the manager - and he says he was the owner. I explainedI have paid over the phone before, and he says yes they do that, but if he doesn't trust the payment, he won't take the order. I honestly ask you, can u imagine, just phoning up your local chinese as you have done before many a time, and being told you can't place your order because they don't trust you. Is it because my partner ordered before and I am a woman? What is the reason? aghast. Ordered from a different Chinese and was Delicious, sala Thai!Why wouldn't u take my order Royal cottage?

the subject premises are a take away facility at the address given.the meals provided are very much hit or miss depending on what time of the evening you require your meal.a service which they provide is the "meal deal"mon\thur 4.30pm until6.30pm.which consists of two courses for the price of £ 5 though the portions would appear smaller it is value for money.i therefore regret to be advised that the "meal deal"has been abandoned during the duration of the festive period.i can think of no reason why greed perhaps, so i therefore hope customers vote with there feet after the festive season and head for other venues nearby who have not adopted this idea.
