Royal Chef Chinese Takeaway in North Tyneside

Didn't know how fast to come out of kitchen to say no dogs in here and to tell us in a rude way is horrendous won't be returning

Food is horrible’ we got the sweet and sour chicken and rice the chicken was very slimy definitely not the best balls were greasy and I don’t know if this came in the rice but there was a small beetle like thing in the rice so the hole lot went in the bin I was nearly sick. Has definitely put me off takeaways . Then the next day we couldn’t keep off the loo. Definitely would avoid at all cost .

We use this Chinese at least once a week, but had one last night and it was awful. Watery curry, clumpy rice & undercooked tasteless chow mein. Sorry but we’ll not be returning, meal ended up in the bin

Myself and the wife have had a munchie box from here a few times. The first few were really top notch for the money. I bought one last night and to say I/we were disappointed is an understatement. The chicken wings were so over done they were inedible to the the point even my cat refused to eat them. The spare ribs were meaty but again so overdone they were like shoe leather, it just wasn't the same quality as we have had before. I don't know if because I placed my order early I got reheated food or the chef is different but the standard was well below what we have experienced previously. On this experience I won't order from here again, which is a shame as my previous experience was so good. If the manager / owners/ chef can explain why and offer an apology then maybe just maybe I might try again. A lot of decent competition in Shields so you need to stand out from the crowd.

First time order tonight food perfect beef chop suey beef well cooked family also loved there meals definitely be back again finally found top Chinese food 😋

Love it all you could want from a Chinese

This used to be good but the last couple of times the chips are awful I don't think there cooked long enough and was just warm as it was delivered, my partners was also not good prawns not nice and rice cold .

Go here a bit .... food always good and good value thankyoy

Great Staff, Great Food, Well Worth The Money

As I live in south shields I was travelling back from blyth and decided to try this chineese I must say it was absolutely fantastic first class food .Well done guys I will call again thank you

Ordered as a takeaway. Ordered two munchie boxes with salt and pepper chicken and chips .. chicken curry and rice, was well worth the money was enough to go round with left overs . All piping hot and plenty of seasoning on the chips . Chicken in the curry was very nice and soft plenty of onions and mushrooms . Would recommend, delivery service was quick.

I don't know how this is rated better on here. We've got our take aways from here for the last 5 years and never had a bad meal. Reasonably priced and very quick delivery. Love the salt and pepper Chicken and chips. Staff are friendly. Can't fault it.

2 King prawns in a house special curry? Could live with 3. Don't be greedy huh 😏 😒

The food was exactly as we expected. The portions were generous and it was tasty and well cooked. It was a busy Saturday night but we were able to pick up in 40 minutes.

Chips and rice nice. Satay chicken so bland and watered down/padded out with 100s of onions. Perhaps got the wrong thing but really disappointing.

I’ve been here numerous times and it’s always delicious, the ribs especially are amazing. I got one recently and i picked it up however when i got home i realised they’d forgotten something and i rang just expecting to get a refund back as my address is too far to deliver. Royal chef went above and beyond and delivered my missing item and the service was amazing. Will definitely be coming back.

I have a problem remembering things but the young lady here always knows what I want. Excellent food and memory

Worst shredded beef , stringy pathetic amount and was like a fish bone . Bowl full of batter and the owner is a rude nasty man when I complained the next night ! Stick to Fais kitchen in chirton it's worth the wait !

Absolutely amazing. I normally use a one in tynemouth and tonight tried this one as I wasn’t happy with my current Chinese. Will definitely return. Nice staff and great tasting food.

Have used many times but last night’s meal 14th January was terrible. There was bones in the Aromatic Duck and Sweet Sour Pork was grissel. Will not use this place again.. Extremely disappointed.

Used to be great, last meal the tofu was burnt to a crisp and it only had a quarter of the sauce it usually has. Rang up they they wanted to send a new one next time I ordered but eventually agreed to cover the inedible meal and replace it with a tofu curry. They did say they had changed the type of tofu recently but it was just bad cooking as other meals were fine

Poor service, don't even have a card machine to pay, they only take cash, so people who don't use cash have to go without.

Just had delivery. After using these for years orders were getting mixed up whether owner change don't know. Stopped using them every week and only intermittently. However after increasing delivery charges and ever decreasing prawns chicken meat etc on house specials, and noticeably unless you give delivery guy at least 1£ tip on top of the ever increasing delivery charge of £1.70 on further orders you will have to stick your meal in a microwave. After several years of using these guys firstly every week then intermittently will not be using them ever again.

Consistently good quality food. Never disspoints

I can't have onion or garlic at present and the staff are lovely at helping me. Food is lovely, at least the house special chow-mein anyways. Only downside is I didn't seem to get char su pork this time but chicken and prawns so moist and cooked to perfection. Beef a little overdone.

Last few visits the food has been absolutely disgusting. Ordered a munchie box and the chicken was all stringy and tough, i asked for no ribs and chicken balls only to be given them and hardly any salt and pepper chicken. Curry sauce very watery! Theres much better ones out there defo wont be rushing to visit again shame because this place use to be very nice

This is the 1st time i have ever visited this place a small disappointment on being told 15mins and was almost 30mins and i was 1 of people still waiting for there ordered food on reflection on that occasion the quality of the food was top quality very impressed and would try this place again ans hope there timing will have improved

Staying in North Shields for a couple of nights. So glad I chose this take away. Special chilli and garlic chow mein is amazing. Very generous portions too. Happy customer. Sesame prawn toast, very greasy though

I ordered from here on Wednesday night my dogs enjoyed more than I did. the chilli prawns did not even have any spice in it even though it was stated on the menu it was supposed to be hot. there were not enough prawns in my house special chow mein and the the crispy house special wasn't crispy it was like eating bricks. I would seriously recommended that you don't order from here if you enjoy Chinese food. I would expect a full refund but they probably won't because their Chinese.

Fast delivery is probably the only good thing to say about this meal . It was expensive & tasteless

The entire meal was disgusting! Chilli and salt ribs were Char Sui ribs and had no chilli or salt on them. Singapore Fried Rice was more like Char Sui rice. The chips were ok but the curry sauce was licorice overload. Never again!

First time I have had a meal from here, it was very tasty, on time and arrived hot - which is quite unusual for most chinese take aways! Will be using again.

Used to love this Chinese but quality of food has took a nose dive fried rice dish was all stuck together and curry had no taste would not return

We have been ordering from this takeaway for around 3 years now. Wouldn't change it, lovely house special fried rice, sweet& sour mix balls, chicken wings in honey sauce delicious too. Food is always well cooked and hot when collected. We always pay in cash but they should have a card payment option would be very handy .

The woman who works on the counter is really helpful and friendly. We love the tofu because we are vegetarians.

We ordered from here for the first time on Friday the food was delicious, satay chicken skewers were lovely I had the salt and pepper fried chicken and plain chow mein very nice ! Definitely be ordering again

Telephone taker needs to listen to what you order & get the delivery address correct

Never had anything other than perfect meals, the only negative is that they don't take cards which is ridiculous in this day and age

Fantastic Chinese takeaway! Our favourite in the area!!!

Royal chef is quickly becoming one of our favourite takeaways! The service is always friendly, there is occasionally a language barrier so making a list is recommended. When you have modifications needed to a dish, for example no bean sprouts - it comes in handy. Food is always fresh tasting and never takes too long to be prepared. Overall, we have never been disappointed by the food or the service here.

Food is always lovely and the girl on the front desk is always friendly whether you call for a delivery or pop in for collection. After trying the place a few times I can now say I’m a regular.

Food is beautiful! Cooked fresh and very tasty! Unfortunate about the minimum £15 spend to use the card machine, just take cash though you wont be disappointed!!

We love the combination dishes for a fiver and every meal we've had has been delicious.

When I rang the takeaway, there was a confusion with my order, so it took a while to order even though it was only a few things. The food came very fast within 20 minutes, when we were told 45 minutes, which was good. The food was of decent quality and a large amount. The sauce was too watery which was disappointing. I will return but not in a hurry.

I've been going to Royal Chef (previously known as Mr Wong's) for 8-9 years & it's still the best Chinese takeaway in North Shields compared to other places I've been to. Nothing can beat the super fresh Chinese dishes which don't have any monosodium glutamate like other places may have. They also offer Thai-style dishes (like red/green curry), which are really flavoursome as the Thai food dishes have a Chinese twist to them. One dish I'd recommend is the chicken & English mushrooms - very tasty, also give the hot & sour soup a go if you're feeling really spicy!

Ordered food from here many times not a problem really nice, ordered Chicken balls for my son and they were pink (undercooked) no refund and no apology. All they said on the phone was that they are cooked twice and it would be impossible for them to be undercooked. Wont be ordering from here again. Will be seeking advice from food hygene.

Great food! Nearly authentic Chinese dishes which is nice since I was born and raised in Hong Kong. Highly recommend the sweet & sour soup, crispy noodles and tofu/bean curd (available in a variety of sauces).
