Royal Bengal Tandoori Restaurant in Fife

Just popped in to try it on a Sunday night, nobody else in the restaurant, not a good sign. Ordered the food, no atmosphere at all had to ask for background music to be put on. Starters ok, however main course of mixed tandoori was very small, not chargrilled, all the meats were covered in some form of red wet coating, so everything tasted the same, at £16.95, it certainly wasn't a generous portion, it comes with a medium sauce as standard, but we ordered a korma sauce separately. Overall the food was poor, even the mushroom rice was stodgy. When the bill came, we noticed the small dish of korma sauce was charged at £6.00, we queried this, only to be told, "sauces are expensive to make" we obviously expected to pay for the sauce, however £6.00 seemed excessive compared to other restaurants we use. This was our first visit and certainly our last, don't waste your money. Probably explains why it was deserted.

Hadn't been to The Bengal for years. Visited the other evening & enjoyed the best Lamb Balti I've ever had. Staff went above & beyond in terms of service which was excellent. Will be first on the list of places to go for Indian food in the future.

Updating review due to a bad order, which was disappointing given previous positive experience. Whereas the last order was delicious, apparently food quality isn't consistent - Madras was fantastic on first order, so ordered again but this time it was totally different and didn't taste much like curry at all! Absolutely no heat and was weirdly lemony. Sweeter curries like Chasni and Pathia are overly sweet and have no sour or savoury flavour to complement. Giving 2 stars rather than 1 due to the original good experience, but unlikely to order again.

Amazing food and exceptional service. Went for a dinner with my family and everything was great. Super child-friendly staff. Great atmosphere and delicious food 🍲. Definitely will be back!

Have had a few bad meals from another Indian in Dunfermline so thought I would try the Royal Bengal. Very disappointed. Rice and bread good. We had three different curries, which where poor. They had no taste or dept off flavour. Very watery.

The best Indian restaurant in Fife. I have dined here for over 30 years and haven't found anywhere to beat it.

Had excellent meal with a group of friends and service and price was very good.

Really perfect, delicious curries! Glad I tried here after a few other local curry houses have gone downhill. The dansak was perticularly good! Will be back for more. Also, great for vegans and those who need lactose free food :]

The food is really good just a pity that lengthy waiting times are off putting. Our main courses did not arrive until we had been in for 105 minutes and we weren’t even asked if we wanted more drinks after our first order was taken. The restaurant said they were a chef down but if they can’t cope they should not fill up every table and continue to take takeaway orders. Really disappointing.

After an epic day drinking in the Cranny Bar, we start on the Corona and then move to the 3 second second pour of gins. Last time The B Man brought vodka that looked like gin and nobody noticed it was gin and we all said what a tasty gin this vodka was. At around 7 pm, our food arrives. Hobs tries to play it cool and say he is not hungry, but he always stuffs his face, and one time, he ate 50 chicken pakora, the dirty beast that he is. B Man always gets the spicy curry's because he is the best and extra pakora sauce because he is the best. Top tip, curry man, always give extra sauce and free naan or poppadoms when you receive an order from The Cranny Bar. Keep up the good work.

I ordered and paid for a take away meal for four people on a Saturday night and opted to collect the meal. I did this online well in advance of my collection time. The web site stated a 20 minute wait for collection from placing the order. At the time I chose for collection I arrived a few minutes late but the meal wasn’t ready. I was asked to take a seat in the restaurant which I think is off putting for the diners. There were several others waiting for meals and quite a lot of comings and going for take aways. I was told three times that my meal was just coming in the 25 minutes I had to wait. I spoke to someone I knew who’s take away was actually waiting for them when they arrived. They had phoned in with the order and were told to wait 40 minutes before collecting. Why does the web site say 20 minutes when it is obvious they cannot achieve that deadline. Are they short of staff or are they just taking orders knowing they can’t fulfil the commitment. Having said that the staff did apologise when the food eventually came explaining that they were busy! The food was good and I will return but phone in my order and receive a more realistic time schedule.

Amazing meal here with hubby, son & his gf. All food was top notch & poppadoms were perfect. That yellow sauce though bloody love it. Best indian food💖 I do think the takeaway food is taking over though & they need more staff as we waited ages for service yet takeaway area was mobbed!!!

Dined here on 1st April arrived at 6 50 got drinks quick enough waited 30mins on our starter then 25mins on main not good enough don't know if kitchen was the problem or on the floor not enough staff royal bengal employ kitchen or floor staff whatever seen everyone looking at there watches waiting on meals so we where not the only ones come on royal bengal get your act together

Ordered and dined in here for years. More recently though on our last 3 deliveries and unfortunately for the last time we have ordered today. After a conversation 2 weeks ago about massive delays in the delivery time (1hr 50m after being told 45min) we gave it another go today. An order placed at 5:20 we were guaranteed no more than an hour for delivery. After an 90 minute wait though, I tried to call and spent the next 25minutes trying to call constantly before the driver eventually arrived. I expect we were not the only ones trying to call chasing up as I suspect the phone was just taken off the hook tbh. I don’t blame the drivers as they can only deliver as quick as given the food ! If it’s going to be that long just be honest and let the customer decide if willing to wait, seems they are happy to take order and your £40-£50 knowing they will be will take almost 2hrs to deliver. Sorry but will be looking elsewhere in future.

Was here on the 3rd January 23 for dinner. I have not been here in years and it's still as good if not better than ever. The staff, service and food is amazing and the staff go above and beyond to make it an extra special dining experience. The food was so fresh and delicious. Will definately be back

By far the best curry I’ve ever eaten at home. Amazing value for money too and quality of service, temperature of food and all round presentation at home was outstanding. I’ve tried a lot of Indians in Dunfermline but this is by far the best. We got chicken pakora, North Indian garlic chicken, a rice, 2 nans and chips for £23, fantastic. Would absolutely recommend going here.

Eight GOM from DHS (1956) ate there today for lunch. They opened early to accommodate us, and we were all impressed with the quality / value of the meals provided. The service was also excellent. I am sure we will be back in future.

This was our go to indian but not anymore. Shrunk the portions and don’t look after the locals that always use them. Disappointed.

Best Curry house in dunfermline

Food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Have had take away few times since and food / collection / delivery has been great.

I ordered a takeaway from here last night after it being recommended to me by a friend. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Everything was full of flavour and very much to my taste. I will definitely order from them again. The only negative was that it took over an hour to be delivered, but that wasn’t their fault, as I live in Inverkeithing. I only mention it so people know to be patient because it’s worth waiting on.

This establishment never let's us down . Food is always excellent and the service is perfect . Take away or sit in as we did tonight we have never been disappointed.

I used to like this restaurant and have been a customer for over 30 years. However, as I write this, I've been waiting for 1 hour and 25 minutes for a delivery to 1.3 miles away. I won't use them again.

We popped in for a quick meal on the way back from a day out and very glad we did. Place was fairly quiet for a Friday with most people coming in for takeaway. Food was delicious. All served hot, fresh and served on warm plates which is good to see. Pakora, lamb tikka starters and chilli garlic and korma main with garlic nan bread was all flawless. Service was friendly and effortless. Will be returning soon!!

Great meal. I had the Naga Chicken curry which was full of flavour and spicy hot. Garlic Naan was well made. Overall very enjoyable and well worth a visit.

Beware the price of a cup of tea! How any restaurant can justify £3.95 for a tea bag and a cup of hot water is beyond me.After 40 yrs of patronage here we will not be back.

Do not order online for delivery. I ordered and they accepted. I called after an hour and 20 minutes to see if there was an issue. I said I ordered online and the stated it was on the way. After an hour and 45minutes I called again to be told they don't have a way to order online. Whilst on the phone I receive an refund and now the website is closed. Really poor customer service. I will not return. A simple apology would have done and acknowledged their wrongdoing.

Never been or ordered food from here and were told by friends it was nice. I disagree. The chicken tikka was far too sweet and had no spice kick to it. I won't order again from them and especially as it was over £40 for our order we have ate elsewhere for better and cheaper priced.

Got the chicken Jalfrezi extra hot. Pilau rice and garlic nan. Absolutely delicious! Best curry I've had in ages. Been telling my mate Kenbo (who is in Saudi Arabia) its worthy of a SOLID 10/10!!! My husband has been searching for a good Indian restaurant for years since leaving his hometown. The food NEVER disappoints and is now a staple for us once a week!

Choose this whilst looking for an Indian Restaurant in the nearby area of our hotel. It was also recommended by one our English colleague. The food wasn’t very Indian though and the taste was so so. It took more time than expected to be served as well. The dishes were prepared with frozen vegetables. The staffs need to work out more as far as hospitality is concerned.

Visited for the first time in a number of years. Sadly not the place weremember. Staff seemed pleasant but didn’t interact. The food was terrible. Chicken overcooked and so dry made it difficult to swallow. We left it. Both mains - Korma and madras lacked depth of flavour. Rice was bland. Both meals very sweet rather than savoury. No atmosphere probably due to the large table of men who were using the most foul language and using it very loudly with no thought for other customers and no intervention from either staff or apparent owner. We won’t return to this establishment as it’s not the place it used to be. Nor is it the place for a celebratory meal I’ve left one star but it doesn’t deserve it in my opinion

What a wonderful restaurant. The food is tremendous and cooked to Indian Perfection. The ambience in the restaurant is first class and Sam is attentive to our every need. We have a meal here every week, either sit in or takeaway, and it never fails to impress us. May the high standard continue.

We visited as a post exam treat for my son. The food was excellent (my lamb curry was one of the nicest ever and I eat a lot of lamb curry in restaurants).

We have been good customers of this restaurant for 20 years. On New Years Eve we were looking forward to a takeaway treat. Instead we got chicken in a sweet coconut sauce, and prawns in an identical sweet coconut sauce. No flavour, just sickly sweetness. We had to throw them away. The owner maintains that we got what we ordered, but I am puzzled. £25.70 down and no food on New Years Eve, and no chance of a refund.

Absolutely beautiful food - not to be missed. We went to India earlier this year and this reminded us of the brilliant time we had. Lamb pasanda, peshwari naan, sharing platters, WOW! Thank you

I ordered the meal at 5pm for 6.30pm, it eventually arrived at 8.05pm. The meal was not hot and had to be microwaved. I had ordered it for me and my partner before she went out, unfortunately she had to leave the house before her meal arrived. I tried to phone the restaurant several times to cancel the meal to cancel the order but was constantly engaged. I requested a refund through your website but have not received a response.

Oh dear! Ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala, received a plastic tub full of a thick coconut sauce (masala sauce? with five small pieces of chicken. With the chicken taken out the pot was still largely full. Seems expensive for a serving of sauce. I have used Royal Bengal for over thirty years, sadly I may now have to go elsewhere.

Visited at the end of August with my wife & daughter and thoroughly enjoyed. Fantastic fresh food accompanied with friendly service. We have been sporadically over the years and are never disappointed, my daughter says its the best Indian in Dunfermline, so it must be lol. With the "help to eat" the bill was even more generous than usual but normally its very competitive anyway. It was also busy, which i love, it generates atmosphere & also gives you a clue to how good the food is.

Was here tonight used to come here all the time but not been here for year to be honest thought it was closed but I am happy it was not the food was outstanding and so was the staff they where not in your face or trying to hurry you up they lady who brought our drinks was lovely and very frendly in fact all staff was definitely be back thank you

I admitted a visit to this "Indian hidden gem" had been on the "must visit list" for a few years. Now having been & enjoyed the fare and service so much it easily jumps onto the "revisit list".

The food was cold for the second time round.

Ordered a selection of starters and side dishes for a night in with friends. When I ordered I was originally told collection time would be 25 minutes which was fine. Then told due to it being busy it would be 50 minutes which was slightly disappointing but again, was fine as it’s a Saturday night. I arrived after 50 minutes, however food wasn’t ready and had to wait a further 25-30 minutes in the restaurant with no communication from staff. After finally getting the food, I got home to waiting friends to find an item missing, the two chicken wing portions were short a wing so we got 4 wings instead of 6. And no poppadom’s at all despite paying for 6. All in all a very disappointing experience unfortunately. Can’t say I’ll be rushing back if at all.

Food was delicious, but cold, had to reheat in microwave. This was not what I expected to do. Once hot the food was very good.

Onion bajis were delicious! Although only feedback I would give is to provide more sauce with the onion bajis as they are big!

Was very disappointed by the Badshahi Am King Prawn . There were only 4 prawns in this . It cost £13.95 . Not enough for a main dish . My husband had to share my lamb .

The delivery driver left our meal at the wrong address. Phoned and our meal was made fresh and delivered in 10 minutes, food was amazing as usual albeit arriving late.
