Just finished our takeaway and the portions are huge. The curry was the Rara special and was absolutely top notch, mild sauce with slight background heat, a delightful change from the usual currys The other was stuffed full of chicken in a red pathia sauce giving a bit of heat with sweet and sour background. This was only the second time we have used the Rara Tal but now we will make them our only Nepalese/Indian pitstop.

Our favourite buffet restaurant. Doesn't have a huge selection but the food is amazing. Staff are lovely. Prices are much better than 5 of other buffets. Only thing that would improve it is more desserts.

Great place and value for money

First visit for the buffet at Rara Tal and was pleasantly surprised. Exceeded my expectations as buffet offerings at times can be quite bland and more often than not have a lot of food reheated from the previous service. I found the majority of the food to be fresh. Some dishes were actually as good as you’ll get sitting in or delivered in the area if not better. I would say this compares to Shimla in East Wemyss which is a good thing. Personal favourites were the pakora and spicy potato appetisers and the lamb karai and garlic chicken mains. Rice was nice and hot along with the nan. Waiter was attentive enough and I noticed he swapped our glass with ice so he had spotted something so this was a really good sign too. The dessert area needs some work though, definitely had some not so fresh cakes and the fruit looked dry and probably been sitting there all day. Have ice cream!! Overall I’ll still give it 4 stars as for a buffet it does everything you want it to do (except for dessert lol).

Buffet is excellent. Drinks order got a little confused. Don't really like the background music but all in was a great meal and we will be back.

Go here whenever we can, went for valentine's day today and they went above and beyond. Place was completely decorated and they were giving roses away to each table as well. Food is always phenomenal, I've never done the buffet but always order from the menu. I've tried all Indian restaurants/takeaways in Glenrothes and this one's always been the best. Foods really well priced as well.

Although the food was tasty there wasn't a great selection. The dessert option was very poor! The staff were friendly. It wasn't busy and quite cold.

I've only ever had takeaway, prompt delivery, enough food for 4 people, great flavours and hot, portions I have had were all brilliant.

Can't fault this excellent restaurant - buffet and/or off menu dishes all excellent, but the staff are also really friendly, so helpful and can't do enough for you. Great value for money.

Excellent buffet with a good price and a good variety of food to try.

First time trying this Indian today and won’t be the last. Good selection of buffet food and all constantly replenished with fresh food. Everything was tasty and very reasonable priced too. Would recommend to anyone looking for a decent buffet.

Went in with guys from work. Welcomed and taken straight to seats by friendly staff. Drink order taken straight away, drinks arrived promptly. The food itself is really good, the selection is fantastic, plenty options for really spicy and mild. 4 people all you can each amd 6 pints, £70, really good prices.

The food and service was fantastic, however, it lacked in atmosphere for us. I'd recommend some background music and dim the lights in the seating area. It felt a bit like being in a dining hall. As i say though, couldnt fault the food or service.

Had a lovely buffet here tonight. Food was delicious, all staff very friendly and attentive. Narayan was very helpful and so nice. Don’t know why I haven’t been before but will definitely be back!!!

Came here with the recommendation and food was okay but the service was very poor did not understand English much, doesn’t seem to be busy as no one about 8pm. Would recommend or come back.

Excellent service 5⭐variety of Currys my favourite South Indian was amazing, the starters to many to choose from love the spicy potatoes and noodles, plenty cakes,fruit and ice cream to end a wonderful experience, they will even make the kids nuggets etc if there fussy little ones, above all loved it

We were there on Friday 15th September for my birthday. I think it's the 4th time we've been. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and efficient. We had the mixed grill the last two times, delicious. Give it a try, don't walk past this wee treasure ✨️

Went here for the first time on Sunday for the buffet and I have to say it didn't disappoint. The selection of dishes was just enough and it was so fresh and tasty. The lamb literally melted in the mouth. I was very impressed. Reasonable price too and great service. Would highly recommend

Ordered korma with pilau rice when I opened it had pudding rice, was very disappointed

I ordered online via their website, the confirmation system doesn't work very well, and with three hours notice it was still 45 minutes late. A wee call or text to confirm would save a lot of uncertainty. However the food was utterly superb, genuinely the best Indian I have had in years. The Korma and chasni were delicious, so full of flavour. The pakora sauce was superb, not to mention the pakora and the bhajji themselves.

Really enjoyed our family meal, everything was fresh and delicious. Definitely be going again.

This is a little gem if a place. Excellent value for money. There is not a massive choice of dishes in the buffet but there is more than enough for everyone to eat. The South Indian Garlic Chill, Chicken Jalfrezi and Lamb Bhoona curries were very nice. The rice was fresh. Desserts were basic but I went for the main courses not the ice cream. 👍 Staff were also great.

The food is simply amazing, staff are really nice and forthcoming. Nice and cosy atmosphere in general.

There food is quality delicious and quick service is very kind they gave me a glass of coke for free when waiting for my take away order and is a nice chill atmosphere and a good price for buffet and the take away food for a Indian place as well

Never thought that old Follies could look like this. I met with a friend I hadn't seen for 26 years at this restaurant. We had the best time ever! The food, the service and the ambience were first class. I live down south now but I can honestly say that if I still lived in Glenrothes this would be my first choice of Indian restaurant anywhere in the surrounding area. If you haven't tried this restaurant then you're missing out. It's great value for money and I honestly couldn't think of one negative thing to say about it.

Had a meal a few weeks ago it was amazing and the chef made me a special chicken curry dish with out cream it as I have dietary needs it was delicious I will be back and I highly recommend the place great food and such great value for money

Was going to be our 1st visit..... Need to be more specific on their opening times tbh.. Turned up Friday 16th just after 2pm to be told they were closing, yet times state open from 12pm till 9pm....disappointed but will go another time to try again

Under new management in the last 2 months and you can definitely tell. We've had 2 takeaways that have been excellent so decided to go in on Friday for dinner. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The food was excellent. We've been going to Indian restaurants for years and I have to say this was the best one I have tasted in a long time. The service was 1st Class too. Will definitely be my regular now.

Buffet was excellent and lots of variety, all meat was tender and cooked perfectly. The naan bread was low when we were there so we were told that they’d bring more to the table which they did very promptly and it was warm and fresh. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. We are definitely coming back. I also read a review on here saying it wasn’t wheelchair friendly however when we went there was a wheelchair user who was seated above the two steps so it is wheelchair friendly.

Poor dried up food had few empty item asked waiter did not understand well orderd a wine and they did not have it and ordered other one gave us a offer of different wine to the one in the menu. Which was cheap and nasty. Bright red carpet did not look good. I will never come back.

Had a buffet lunch there yesterday, got to say I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was and it pretty cheap. We'll definitely be back.

We've been here a long time ago for the buffet. This restaurant was recommended to us by a group of people who were going on Saturday night. On their advice we decided to go. Well, we were not disappointed!!!! In fact, we were well impressed. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. Best Indian meal we've had in a very long time. The outside doesn't look very inviting, but as the old saying goes 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' Well worth the visit. Then back in to the Pheonix for a few drinks.

Really lovely place with fantastic staff. Good selection of food, and the veg pakora is especially good! Tea and coffe, puddings, and snacks for after the main meal is done and very affordable. Highly recommend! 🙂 One of the staff members is very caring and lovely and if you are vegetarian all you need to do is ask for the currys without meat and he'll get it for you. Very kind people.

First time I have been to this restaurant & the first time I have had an Indian meal & let me say I was delighted both times,food was to say the least excellent & the service was second to none,they could not do enough for you an would not have a problem returning here at all or order as a take away meal as the do both.

Arrived about 6pm on Saturday night, was seated and asked what drinks we would like right away. We were told to head to buffet when we were ready . Food was absolutely beautiful and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Definitely would go again and well worth the money . We were still talking about it the week after.

Booked a table for eight - 2 used the buffet, the rest of us cost from the menu. Everything was delicious. Or only issue was that not all wines on the wine list were available - would definitely return.

Arrived at 16.30 as stated on website and menu that buffet available from then. Once in the restaurant guided to our table then told the buffet was not ready and would be 10 minutes. Unfortunately no drink order was taken then at 1655 drink order taken and buffet was now open. Very limited selection for £15 odds and even then half the hot plates were empty pilau rice but no boiled rice brought out until meal was almost finished. Two sets of music playing one from a mobile at the bar and the restaurant music itself. Desserts only taken from a box and cut when queried where they were. For 3 people with one drink (coke) each £55. Quality of food not 100%

Went here today 22/7/22 for the buffet lunch as previously had good home deliveries. Arrived at 1pm. Hardly any food left. I had to point out that most of the food trays were empty and then had to wait ages for them to bring more out. Only vanilla ice cream left for sweet. Won’t be back unless it improves dramatically.

The korma was like water by far the worst i have ever had , just because you have many people ordering at the same time is not an excuse to water down ingredients , you have lost a customer and his friends . You have one star as i cannot leave zero

I went here on Saturday with a group of friends for the lunchtime buffet, service was good, food was good and reasonably priced, it's not a premium restaurant but I don't think that's what it's trying to be, just an easy going Indian buffet.

Okay I fess up I am not a great lover of the curry . I recall I visited this restaurant mid-week just after coming out of lockdown . We were the only 2 diners so can’t say there was great ambience. What I do remember is you can fill your boots up and drink wine a plenty and not have to worry about the bill ! 😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇳 🇮🇳

Happy to accommodate your request from the buffet which is efficiently managed. Quality cooking - think the others reviews and reflective of the food versus others. Admittedly needs some updating but solid enough dishes. Try it!

I would visit Raratal restaurant often before covid with family and friends and always had a lovely experience, although today I was very disappointed. On arriving we were told the usual 2:30pm close for lunch was changed today to 2pm, we had no issues with this and made them aware we were happy to continue to dine with them. We were shown to our table and ordered a bottle of wine, whilst we waited on the wine we went to help ourselves to the buffet starter, the plates were cold that were in the warmer due to it not being turned on, the waitress did take two plates to heat for us and turn the warmer on for the rest of the plates but it made little difference as the period of time we were in there wasn’t long. There was little selection although food that was there was ok. On us returning to the table was made aware the wine was warm due to fridge not working nor was there any ice as the ice machine was broken (they did fine a couple of blocks to put in a ice bucket for us but this made little difference to the temperature) there was no music playing or atmosphere. I can only assume it was the owner or one of the owners who was speaking to a waitress and had a conversation I feel should have not taken place in ear range of customers. I am really disappointed as I always really looked forward to lunch here but after todays experience unfortunately we will not be making a return.

We ate this while visiting from the states and it was one of the best takeaway experiences I've ever had. Everything was great, but definitely try the Butter Chicken, you won't be disappointed. This would be a weekly stop if I lived nearby.

There was only ice-cream for dessert in the buffet. There was hardly any food ready. Definitely wasn't worth the almost £10 paid per person.

Food was bland stale cakes . Poor restaurant layout. Don't know how this establishment is still open to be honest would not recommend 👎 .

Visited for lunch 1 hour before closing,there was a couple in front of me had went up and were going straight for mains as there was almost no choice of starters. I went up and there was 3 small dried up pieces of chicken pakora and something that looked like mushrooms in a cloudy water. I asked if there was more going to be out out and was told not for starters. The couple in front of me walked out after looking at mains saying the same nothing there. I opened the mains thinking I would go straight for mains and next to nothing,they brought chips out and said that's it. Absolute joke I wasn't staying so I said politely I'll just leave it thanks and pay for my drink. I was asked why I was leaving and said its a buffet and there is next to nothing there. I got hit with the excuse of covid and people struggling,I understand that but if there offering a buffet there should be more than 2 choices for starter. As I went to walk out I got shouted at "your obviously in a bad mood" Well my response I wasn't but I certainly am now. And if I hadn't already entered the building I don't think I would have bothered when i seen someone who was obviously staff walk in with 2 packed Iceland bags,could clearly see the words pakora through the bag. Absolutely no way to talk to customers. Will not be back.

Parked the car up and waited for the restaurant to open at 5pm when a blue clio pulls up next to us, opens the door and smacks his door off my car. My partner jumped out, the guy looked either stoned or drunk and his attitude was disgusting. Now have a huge dent in my car and the guy went off into Rara Tal to start work with his bread from home bargains. Definitely wont be eating here!

Further edit. Apparently now under new management & definitely open at lunchtimes & evenings from about 5pm. I'm told the new owners/chef is the best yet so it's definitely up near the top of my go-to list.

We had a takeout meal today and it was absolutely delicious. The food was fresh, flavoursome and piping hot. The owner is always friendly and welcoming along with the staff. Highly recommend.
