We nipped in for lunch on the way back from Norfolk. Ordered lunch for 4, sausage, egg and chips x2, gardeners platter salad(poor mans ploughmans) and fishless finger panini. The food was served quickly, the salad wasn't very inspiring for near on £12. the veggie option tasted weird on first mouthful so my wife just ate the salad and then a waiter came to the table with another dish which was the veggie meal, we had been given a chicken tikka and mint panini by mistake. No apology or explanation until we approached the counter. My wife being a vegetarian was upset at eating meat, won't be returning.

Visited this Garden Centre today and arrived at about 1100 hours to be told breakfast to lunch on changeover so would need to wait circa 30 mins for food to arrive, this message delivered in a polite way so not an issue. We ordered sandwiches, one with a portion of chips and one with salad. We also bought two trifles that were in the chiller and two cappuccinos at regular size at £3.55 each. Cappuccino regular, supoose this is an opinion but arrived in a very small cup that took one and quarter mouthfuls and it was gone, this is poir value for money. Trifle looked really appealing but found that the cream on top had set, but the cusard and jelly at the bottom had not resulted in a gooey mess, so it was very unappealing. No free WiFi available, which again is poor customer service in these enlightenment times.what a let down all round.

We decided to visit this place for breakfast as it looked very nice from the website. We were quite disappointed with both the food, hygiene and to some extent the staff. The system should make it easy for the staff but in fact it doesn’t appear to work. The order was taken at the counter and cutlery etc fetched from the side area as directed. The cutlery left much to be desired and a very dirty knife was pointed out to the member of staff behind the counter. We waited quite some time for our drinks, the staff seemed more inclined to chat than serve. Other customers arrived and another gentleman proceeded to go through the cutlery and pick out all the dirty items which he then gave to the staff. At this point the cutlery was taken away and checked. Surely that should have been done after the first issue was raised instead of chatting. The food didn’t take long to arrive . The eggs benedict was good but the bacon I; the bacon sandwich was not really up to standard. It’s unlikely we would visit again in a hurry.

This is a review of the coffee shop only, not the garden centre as a whole. As someone else has said, calling this a "restaurant" is over-offering, although they do do a lot of full meals. We go from time to time for coffee-and-a-cake and it is fine, with a decent selection. However it gets overwhelmed at busy times and the service collapses. You choose a table and remember the table number; you then queue at a servery and order, and your food is brought to you later. We have noticed many many times that groups of people having a hot meal get their order in dribs and drabs at wildly separate times, so that one person may have finished their meal, then their drinks come, and later on the other person's food comes. Someone else has commented that no-one came to ask if everything was all right, during the course of their meal. This is a major misunderstanding. It's not that kind of place. But for what it sets out to be, it's ok.

The markings everywhere are very confusing. They should be much clearer. We walked in the entrance and just wanted to have a drink and light lunch before shopping, but the signage to the restaurant was not clear and we were wandering around trying to find out how to get into the restaurant as did many others. The food was lovely, but it was busy and a long queue to order what you want and social distancing was not being observed. Table service would be much better in these times of Covoid. Could do better Im afraid.

The garden centre itself is easy to find and plenty of choice of garden and garden related items in the shop, so if you have only come for that it is good. However some of marking of the arrows are contrary to flow in the garden centre and some leave a gap only a skinny person can go through near the tills. There was gel a plenty and staff behind screens whcih made me feel safe. The restaurant is obviously aimed for children and those with a small appteite, the chicken coronation platter as described on the menu was just a sandwich with a bit of cheap salad. I had sausage, egg and chips which were nice but portion size was a 7 year old size, the fish and chips likewise small size as well. So i wouldnt advise coming to the restaurant if you have an apetite. All in all an ok expereince.

This is a find table first then order restaurant which may be ok in quiet periods but to a sole diner, it's not so good. Add Covid-19 and the fact that the carvery ordering process means queuing up to pay at one counter, obtain a voucher then head off to the carvery to get the food you want then return to the table only to find it occupied by someone else - not the most efficient system for the public.Being on my own, I decided to forego the carvery and settled on Scampi & chips as they had just run out of my first choice, fish & chips. Ah well, we can't have it every way.Having ordered my food, I had to give the table number but the only empty ones required clearing and sanitising. Whilst the cashier shouted to someone to get the table cleaned, it was around 15 minutes before my food arrived and the detrius of the previous occupier was finally removed - no sanitising though. The tray containing my food was unceremoniously dropped onto the table, not a word uttered and the waiter simply returned from whence he came taking the previous diners old dishes. Fortunately I had some sanitizer in my pocket and did the sanitising myself. The food (Scampi, chips & peas) was certainly freshly prepared and it was really good - unfortunately I would have liked brown sauce but the waiter was 'off his mark' so quickly, I had no opportunity to request it.All in all, a reasonable visit with good food but could do with changing their layout, processes and give some more training to the staff.Would I go back? Probably but only to see if things improve.

We visited just before Christmas and the shop itself us brilliant; lots to look at, lots of plants even though we are in winter months. I particularly liked their Christmas selection and singing raindeers. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived and many tables were reserved for big groups but we were lucky to get a seat! Our food arrived promptly however I found my burger to be a bit cold (it had a big chunk of brie inside which wasn't melted so this might've been why) however my husband polished off my food after finishing his so it didn't go to waste! The loos were very clean which I was surprised about given the fact it was so busy in the restaurant.Looking forward to visiting in the spring/summer months. We will give the restaurant a go again but maybe just a cake and coffee next time.

My husband and I called in to the garden centre for lunch and for a look around. The cafe was a disappointment; forget service with a smile. The food took ages to arrive and when it did, my chicken burger was missing the lemon and cracked pepper mayo, which had actually been a deciding point. The portions were not generous. After that we went to look around the garden centre and bought a couple of items. The lady behind the till had clearly decided we were an inconvenience. She said nothing during the whole transaction except the total to pay. Again, no smile, no greeting, no goodbye. We will not be back.

You can eat outside on a delightful decked terrace with some shaded tables - or you can stay inside. The service was good, the staff pleasant .... and my platter of plump sandwiches - egg on seeded brown bread - with a huge dollop of freshly-made coleslaw - was wonderful. The plants were worth a wander - ranging in size from huge trees to tiny rude cactii. I bought a platycodon - a Chinese balloon plant - and am sitting here regretting NOT buying the unusual black petunia. The "gift shops" were the mosy wide-ranging I have seen - clothes, books, toys ornaments - as well as garden paraphernalia.Th toilets were many and spotless with extremely easy access for wheelchairs.Altogether an enjoyable outing, thanks to good friends.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the carvery available at this garden centre and to be honest, the only downside in my view was the quality of the carrots available. They were distinctly grey looking. This probably explained why there was a full container of them sitting there late at a rather late lunchtime. Other diners obviously found them as appealing as I did, and they are my favourite vegetable. Apart from that, the carvery was excellent. Tender beef at a really good price. Perhaps look carefully at sourcing higher quality vegetables. We will, I have no doubt, be back for more.

The food is avergas. some staff were great but others seemed pretty clueless. The carvery has changed and people can now help themselves to veg. They quite frankly made me feel sick piling up as much as they could on their plates with it over spilling onto their trays. It just put me off. I know that’s not the fault of the restaurant itself but I would rather they went back to their old format of serving the food onto the plates.

Today was the second time we stopped here for a meal. Previously around a month ago we both ordered scampi & chips which, when they arrived, were cold so we sent them back. They were, however, promptly replaced. Today we sat waiting for 30 minutes for our fish & chips before my husband decided to find out what was happening. At the counter he was ignored. He saw that there were 2 plates of fish & chips waiting to ‘go’. Whilst he was waiting the kitchen put a further 2 orders out, ringing the bell each time. The 3 serving staff were busy talking amongst themselves & eventually 1 of the staff picked up the 2 plates of fish & chips, my husband asked if they were for our table, and the staff member confirmed they were. As they had obviously been sitting there for a while he assumed that these again would be cold so insisted on having the latest ones that had been brought out from the kitchen. No apologies, no acknowledgement etc. The meals were, when we eventually got them, hot and adequate. However this will be the last time we visit the restaurant. We had noticed that another couple had waited over 30 minutes for their jacket potatoes & when we spoke to them on our way out they confirmed they had to chase them as well. If the restaurant had been busy we could have understood but on a Monday lunchtime this was not the case. The restaurant manager needs to sort the staff out!

We waited forty minutes for what was a straightforward order despite having to remind the serving staff of my order after 30 minutes wait. The service was fine, the food good but my order didn't seem to fit in with the fish and chips offering that several others ordered, ate and departed whilst I waited for our panninis. We were on a busy schedule and had allowed 90 minutes for lunch and a spot of shopping in the nursery. This was my third visit over the space of a year to this garden centre and cafe. Returned purely because the location is central to myself and a friend and the garden centre itself has some lovely bits. However the cafe is beyond disappointing at every visit. The she had 4 people in front of me which took me 45 minutes to get to the front. I timed it purely because of the ridiculous waits on previous visits (that's an average of 11 minutes per customer!!). It's not hard to see why it takes so long the common sense is so beyond lacking. 1 lady we watched unload the dishwasher one cup at a time taking it to the other side of the bar area to place by coffee machine then back to dishwasher for one more cup and so on and so on on repeat. It pained me to watch. The lady on till (not new was there on till nearly a year ago) seemed to need help from another young girl with most items. Please for the love of god if she can work a till and you can't switch over....if you haven't got it in a year it isn't coming lady! Then said lady on till kept asking people their table numbers. People perhaps had forgotten after a 40 minute wait and weren't sure. Logic would dictate make their coffee while they go look yes? No no no apparently you leave the till to go to where they are pointing to check the number yourself. No knives out in cutlery stand and all out of serviettes had to try and get attention to get these replaced meaning meal went cold. Play area ....terrible. chalk board but no chalks. Kitchen ....but no toy food. Car table thing....No cars. What they do have is books. And let's face it if your a mum out for coffee you want to drink that coffee not read a book meaning play area completely let's you down.

A fairly large garden centre with a huge indoor shopping area with ornaments, toys, books, gifts and few garden related items. The Christmas merchandise seemed to overpower everything else. Outside there is a well stocked plant area and plenty of pots, containers and other hard gardening items. The large coffee shop was rather cold, and a bit un homely when we visited. The tea was ok but the mocha coffee was luke warm and tasteless. The staff were jolly and struggling a bit with broken equipment.

Good to visit this great little garden centre just off the black cat roundabout! Really good selection of plants , gravels, Christmas decorations etc. We had lunch in the cafe which was tasty ...lots of little areas to sit including a children's area...didn't have to wait too long considering it was busy! Afterwards we walked to the farm shop next door and then had a walk round the maze ! Nice place to while away a couple of hours!

Been here several times for a meal with my family, and every time the food is lovely and hot, service is great, the ladies are so friendly and welcoming. Yes there was a long wait on saturday(12.11) but it was very busy, we warned of the time wait and accepted that unlike others, the best eating area is the carpet area with the fire. The garden centre overall is lovely and big, lots of choice of anything. Christmas area is lovely. Only downside its freezing in there outside of the resturant wrap up warm.

My Wife & I stopped here for a light breakfast thinking we only had 45 minutes we would be served quickly. The restaurant / cafe had just opened and we were second in the queue which was build up quickly. Essentially the first 5 groups (excluding us) got there breakfast served and our order got lost. Having questioned this I got an apology and waited and waited. In the end after 35 minutes I asked for our hot sausage bread rolls to be put in bags! After 44 minutes I eventually got the food and a shrug from a stressed waitress. I think the problem lay with communication not staff numbers!

Stopped here today and was happy to be able to walk around with a person in a wheelchair at ease having enough room to manoeuvre. Lots to see, enjoyed looking at the Christmas displays. Stopped in the cafe for a coffee not the best I have tasted although it the scone made up for it, friend had a sausage, bacon n egg sandwich which knows looked good and so he said was cooked to perfection.

We have stopped here before and everything has been reasonable but recently when we visited things were poor, we waited 40 minutes for our breakfast order and then only got it after speaking to the supervisor. The sausages were burnt and the bacon was cremated, we put a fork in the bacon and it broke into pieces, the fried eggs were hard!!!!Not sure what is happening but the standards have dropped dramatically, we will not be going back.

I like Roxton. It's a nice little garden centre, family friendly and easy to get to. The restaurant's food is as you'd expect for a garden centre...good portions, good value. The only thing that puts me off is the naff tasting coffee that comes out of a push-button machine used by the staff. I like a proper cappuccino or latte, especially for the price charged which is comparable to a barista style cup. When that changes I'd actually visit far more, especially for the breakfasts served.

After a walk around the impressive garden centre,we ordered some lunch in the restaurant. There are options on a Sunday,a restaurant to the right for the Sunday roasts which come in small, medium and large sizes, and to the left was sandwiches, cakes etc.We shared an egg mayonaisse platter with chips, the sandwiches were excellent, and the chips were spot on too.We order a couple of cakes for deserts, fruit scones x 2 and with a pot of tea for one and a large coke this totalled £12-90.....really good value. There is also a small play area for kids. Some reviewers have added that service is slow, and they do have a point however the food did turn up fairly rapidly after a good wait in the queue beforehand. The staff were excellent and took their time to ask you if everything was okay etc......quietly impressed.visited June 26th 2016.

It is probably a little early in the season to see a garden centre at its best, but there was already a very good selection of pots in stock (which was what we wanted to see), though a rather weird assortment of 'leftover' goods in a polytunnel didn't add to a feeling of quality. Staff looked very busy moving things around, which made it more difficult to get advice or information; we wanted to know about delivery, but there was no sign of anyone on the information desk, so we just gave up. There is a very good selection of gifts and other items in the main building, with a comprehensive display of wooden furniture Service in the cafe was slow. Our coffees were from a machine, and as the waitress walked off to do something else, were spoiled when the machine 'decided' to do a cleaning cycle and deposit the results in our cups too ! Having said that, coffee was fine, and the cake we shared was tasty and a good size. Menu looked fine, with some nice options for children.Toilets disappointing: basic, not many of them . Would have expected something rather better based on the kinds of 'quality' merchandise they seem to be aiming at.

Nice welcome by the staff, shown to a nicely prepared table. Nice pot of tea and large cup of coffee. Nice selection of sandwiches, prawns, egg mayonnaise, chicken mayonnaise and lovely fresh bread. Good selection of scones and mini gateaux. Offered more tea and coffee if required. Plus a great centre to walk and peruse around lots of interesting items on view in the garden area plants, furniture you name it they have got it.

We bought a train set for a foster child for Christmas. Understanding that things can always go wrong with train sets, we were still expecting the set would work. It didn't. That alone would not lead to a bad review of Roxton. What does is that the train set is obviously one that has been returned and sold again unchecked. The screw holding in the batteries was missing, the on/off button does not work (it cannot be turned off without removing batteries) and three sections of the track are bent and won't fit properly. It can be returned but it's Christmas and trying to explain to a three year old that his present does not work.is not easy. I will not shop there again.

We have been going to Roxton for a number of years and we have watched it grow. The restaurant and shop have improved immensely under the new owners. There is a very good choice of menus in the restaurant and should satisfy all. There is plenty of room and siting by the wood burner just adds to the pleasure this time of year. We have never had a problem with the service or the time taken to get the food. The Christmas shop is excellent and the Christmas train (adults and children sit in it) was enjoyed very much by our grandchildren. There is plenty of Christmas food available to complement your visit. There is ample car parking and it is well worth a visit.

I went here with my wife for lunch. It was a Saturday but they were not busy, only about 10 other tables were occupied. We both ordered salads, simple enough to prepare, you might think, but 35 minutes later we were still waiting. People at other tables were starting to complain about how long food was taking to arrive at the table, so we complained as well, and about 10 minutes later the food arrived. As is so often the case with places these days, there was no obvious manager in sight, and if anyone was in charge of the restaurant then they were rubbish at their job. If you only want a drink and a bun, that's fine, but a meal? Forget it.

Was visiting the maze with family and decided to have lunch in the garden centre restaurant. We ordered 3 ham and cheese paninis and a jam sandwich for my granddaughter as part of her snack bag. We waited just over 40 minutes for these to arrive! Having said that they were very tasty hence 3 stars instead of 2 and we did get extra drinks for free, but we had to ask for them. Apparently they were a member of staff down and the restaurant was busy but still couldn't believe it took so long to prepare what was basically a ham and cheese toastie and the majority of customers arrived after us! Bet their wait was an hour or more! Won't be back.
