Excellent restaurant that is nice and quiet. The food was superb, especially the encrote steak & unlimited fries. The staff very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed our time and would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful evening with family. We enjoyed returning to Rowley's once again after 40 years. The meal was as good as we remembered on the occasions we visited during the late 70s/early 80s! The ambiance was lovely as expected. Many thanks for an enjoyable 70th birthday celebration!

Found this hidden gem in Piccadilly and it did not disappoint! We started with calamari and chicken liver parfait, which was amazing and sticky toffee pudding to finish (the best I’ve ever had!) but the main attraction was the Steak!! We had the sharing plate and it was incredible with unlimited fries! The staff were so lovely and friendly and the atmosphere felt very cosy and tucked away from the chaos of Regent street!

Obviously great steak, but kind and warm service and good wines lead to a straightforwardly yummy steak and chips.

this place really in the bee knees. Great steaks (and v sensible rest of menu) Top draw service and very sensible wine list. If you are a steak fan and love authenticity, Rowleys is the place to go. The unlimited fries help!

Rowley's a bit of an institution. Everything is done proper and the place is neat. Their chips are unlimited and certainly worth having seconds of. I thought the service was impeccable and very friendly without being overbearing. The price/taste ratio left to be desired, although I had a wonderful meal.

Always delivers what's expected. I've been visiting for about 40 years and only had one disappointment when we took our godson and his sister there about 2 years ago.

I've visited this restaurant on and off for decades. Principaly for the entrecote steak and frites. Finished in gorgeous garlic butter at table. Still on the menu. Interesting interior (used to be a pie shop). Friendly welcome. Comfortable interior. I prefer the tiled front area. Not too large menu, excellent wines; many by glass. The steak was so-so this time. Not tender. Certainly a nice lunch restaurant when shopping or for pre theatre dinner

From the moment we walked in we were treated like family. The hostess and waitstaff were top notch. The food was amazing. Steak and Chicken dishes and the fries were excellent. but stay for the sticky toffee pudding. the best!

My first visit to Rowleys, lovely conveniently located restaurant. Service was perfect, meal was excellent, I had a burger and can honestly say that the meat was the best seasoned I have ever had! I will definitely return v shortly! 5*

Having been a few times over the years we have seen Rowleys be a bit of a hit and miss especially with staff. On our most recent trip it was on form. Our waitress from Joburg was attentive and helpful, having only just joined and the food was consistent with plentiful nice crispy fries.

The staff are very welcoming, polite and efficient and Rowley’s can be relied upon to produce a consistently good meal on every visit.

Excellent food & staff. Great touch with the personal heaters to keep the steaks warm. Much more personal & high-class than other similar places I've been, like entrecôte.

Assuming you like steak, this is a great place to get a really good steak. If you don't eat meat there are very good fish options and, for everyone, a great dessert menu.

We had lunch here yesterday and this was the first time in about five years! Covid etc. we chose not to have starters and went straight into main courses! I had the rump steak cooked with garlic and chips. The steak was cooked to perfection. Probably because I cooked it!!!! I had crème brûlée for dessert and that was to die for! Special thanks to Aisha who served us. First class!

A bit overpriced for what it is. The food was ok for this type of restaurant, nothing special. For the same price you get better value in other places. The place wasn't busy at all but it still felt like they might have been understaffed. There were plenty of empty tables but still we saw some people being turned away. The food took a while to come out and it didn't come out at the same time, so some of us were waiting while others had almost finished their plate, and this was consistent for each course. The cheesecake should have been just a matter of cutting up a slice and plating it, but somehow it came out much later than the sticky toffee puddings which needed to be heated up. The sticky toffee pudding wasn't very good, the person who ordered it didn't want to finish it.

The food was very good and the staff run a relaxed and welcoming restaurant. Recommended if you want a very good meal in a civilised environment right in the centre of London.

Even though we miss the ribeye, we had superb fillet steaks and absolutely enjoyed the food and experience. The only thing is that we prefer the sauce on the steak to be served separately. This is one of the many visits we've had to Rowley's, and we're very happy with the dining experience!!

Arrived without reservation and still wearing work gear, but we were shown to a table without any bother. 3 of us had fish, very tasty. Would return.

Came here for a pre-theatre dinner. I had the pre-theatre menu which at £50 for three courses and a glass of bubbly (which I managed to sub out for OJ) is pretty good value for the quality of the food. I started with the calamari which was lovely. I followed this with the sirloin steak with fries and their signature garlic and Roquefort butter which was really good. I finished off the meal with sticky toffee pudding which was very soft and moist. Service was great, really friendly and professional and I managed to get a three course meal in an hour. Will definitely come again.

Glad to return to one of our favourite restaurants. Original core steak menu seems to have been expanded to cover alternative dishes, (must appeal to some visitors I suppose 🤭) but high standards of food, wine and service maintained.

Amazing place to eat. The atmosphere is always great and the service first class. The food is extraordinary and the staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. One of my favourite places to eat in London.

The best steak in London, without question. Plus, attentive service in a gorgeous, tiled interior. After twenty-plus years of dining here, I can confidently say that Rowley’s has never been better.

Conveniently located on German Street, this long establish restaurant serves mostly locals who enjoy fine meets, well prepared, simply served by an attentive staff! And don’t forget the desserts! I was tempted to have one of each I’ll be back!

First time at the restaurant and couldn’t recommend it more. It’s a true hidden gem in the heart of London, which offers a proper authentic experience. The food and service was fantastic. What a stunning experience! My second time here at Rowley’s and I wasn’t disappointed. I’m a big believer in getting what you pay for, and if you value stunning customer service, amazing food, and a captivating setting, then you’ll find it’s worth every single penny. I can’t wait to bring more friends back to this amazing venue!

This by far has been the best dinner I had in London and Paris. We are from Chicago where they know how to cook a steak and this was one of the best steaks I have had. Bravo chef!!!

Used to go back in the late seventies, although under new management it's still an enjoyable place to eat. I know that they are going to do a sympathetic redecoration soon, but leave the ambiance and menu to it's original point. I highly recommend a visit after or before a west end show.

Menu is fine and food well cooked but I know this restaurant well and the menu could do with some rotation/variation - perhaps inclusion of a specials board? Also, the service was poor - disinterested, brusque and slow to come to the table repeatedly. A disappointing lunch experience.

Often when something is rated as the best they often fall short in an area or two. Rowley's was outstanding in every element from the food the ambience to the staff and everything in between.

The service and food was very good. However, a very noisy, loud, table of four, who arrived after us, destroyed the evening. Sorry! Otherwise your efforts are appreciated!

I arrived 5 minutes early before it opened at 12 noon and was told to wait outside by a surly waiter. All he had to say was i am afraid we can't serve you until 12 but take a seat or something, or at least been a bit more friendly about it. We obviously made the mistake of not choosing to the 2 course set menu which everyone else seemed to be having, and instead chose the £38 sirloin steaks which were fatty and not very good and worse than the £6 sirloins that we buy in Tesco. The glass of Malbec was nice but cost more than a bottle would cost in a store. The service included in bill was 20% with no options. I should have reduced the service charge but it was a bit awkward with my guest. I have been going to Rowleys for over 40 years and was last there before going to see the Queen lying in State. I don't recall being so disappointed at being ripped off in such an obvious way.

Delicious food. Although famous for steak, I ordered the fish and it was the best fish course I have ever had. Can’t wait to go back and try the other dishes.

I don’t think the steak was very good, and it was cut too thickly. You can get a steak cooked much better somewhere else. Service was polite but could have been friendlier. We won’t be going back.

Nice food but the restaurant was lacking in atmosphere and whilst the service was fine there was only one person on duty.

I ate at Rowley’s about 10 years ago. Possibly it’s Brexit or possibly it was covid but it is no longer the place it used to be. Food so so (scallops were awful). Chateaux briand was acceptable. Prices through the roof. Rules (although touristy) does better.

I've been going to Rowley's for years, but on this occasion it wasn't great. One of the staff struggled with English, another with personal hygiene (he was noticeably whiffy). The starters were all good. Most diners opted for the specialty entrecote. Unfortunately one was full of gristle and most of it was left. However the staff didn't check what the issue was. The unlimited fries didn't seem very forthcoming either. I personally had the salmon. It was utterly flavourless and overcooked. I would have had pie of the day but they no longer do it, or indeed peas a la francais. Rowley's is pricey of that there's not doubt, but it used to always be packed. It was noticeable that it wasn't and I can't say I'm surprised given the meal we had. Plus service costs should always be included in the dish cost. A tip in England is for going above and beyond. Adding a service charge that amounts to 50 pounds just isn't on. Include your employment costs in the dish costs. This isn't America.

We remember the old days when the food, service and ambience was a treat. Unfortunately not any more. The bread was ordinary and the service was inattentive. Btw the waiter needed a bath? 😌. Although the steak was good the portion was so small we walked out unsatisfied and hungry. Very disappointed … ☹️

A simple yet romantic vintage French restaurant in London that's truly delicious! Located in St James, this exceptionally old-fashioned French restaurant opened in 1976. The menu is straightforward, and they offer a pre-theatre menu due to its proximity to many theaters. The restaurant has a vintage charm, subtly beautiful. Each table ordered the Chateaubriand, a grilled steak with fries and a mysterious sauce. Honestly, the butter sauce is just okay, but the peppercorn sauce is fantastic! 👏 The fries are refillable! 👏 The onion soup won my heart, highly recommended! Not the type with a thick layer of cheese on top that makes it overwhelming, but a rich and aromatic onion flavor with cheese topping on two small pieces of baguette. The baguette soaked in the soup absorbs the onion's fragrance, combined with the cheesy aroma – outstanding! It's undoubtedly my comfort food in London's cold winter! 👏 The scallop chorizo salad for starters is also excellent. The scallops are perfectly grilled, incredibly tender. 🫶 Finally, ending with the classic French apple tart. Usually, I find apple tarts poorly balanced and too sour. But not this one! The crust is crispy, and the soft apples paired with vanilla ice cream – hmm... I melted too 😌 For those who appreciate simple and delicious food, give it a try. The dishes are not complicated, but you can feel the careful preparation, harmonious seasoning, and an extremely comfortable dining experience. 👌

A London institution but needs to modernise its menu. There is nothing even vaguely healthy on the menu. If you want steak frites then it is OK, else better to go elsewhere. That said the price is reasonable for the area.

Like “ the kings new clothes “ you are inveigled by the decor and setting into thinking a fine dining experience must surely lie ahead- how wrong you would be … it’s average fare served in a victoriana style waiting room with comedy club prices - don’t!

Regal Victorian tiled elegance with inset gilded mirrors give an ambience of taste and style. The service is polite and helpful but the food is acceptable not exceptional which it would need to be to warrant the exorbitant prices!

We have dinner there every time we visit London. Food is first rate and not expensive compared to average establishments in the West End. Service is always professionally attentive. Highly recommended.

This place seems to be a hidden gem of London. We were able to get a reservation on a Friday night and had one of our favorite dining experiences in Europe!

Service: it was a cold day and the door automatically wouldn’t close. When a guest would come in and if the door remained open (because guests don’t know/ realise that it’s broken), the service staff, the particular blonde girl would frown and stomp walk and close it. Well management- please fix the door, it was very unpleasant to experience your staff’s rude behaviour. I saw this going on for the 90 mins I was there.. Food: the fish plus beans were good. My mate had the steak and got sick the day after.. tsk! The fries with the steak were delicious, only we didn’t get any till late.. guess they forgot.. I guess that was my experience with the complete order.. someone had forgotten punching it in!

The restaurant smelled of old cooking fat. The steaks felt as if they had been pre cooked and then put on the warming tray and were not very tasty. Overall the restaurant felt like it was hanging on by a thread. I will never go again. Used to go alot when it first opened. I would not let me friend contribute as I chose the place and the food was awful.

Have been going to Rowley's for years. Very disappointed this time. It appears that management has decided to downgrade everything. What were excellent steaks are now Angus Steak House. No filet on the menu. Steak with no taste, thin cut. Sorry, but I can't recommend, particularly at the prices.

Wonderful place for great friends to gather. Everything about Rowley's is super. Never disappoints.

It was really quite cold in the restaurant - admittedly one of the coldest evenings we have had this winter, but even so my husband actually had to eat his meal with his coat on! We all had the sirloin steak which had a nice flavour but certainly nowhere near ‘one of the best steaks in London’ as they like to claim on their website. The side of brocolli was very good and the chips were tasty and plentiful. The sticky toffee pudding and ice cream was amazing. The service was absolutely fine but not particularly warm and friendly. Unlikely that I will return as although the food was fine, I do like a warm welcome and for the price charged there are plenty of other decent restaurants nearby.

We had a very enjoyable meal. The staff were absolutely lovely and were dealing with a technical issue in the kitchen admirably! We would return.

We hardly ever eat out but chose to book here as a semi-surprise for a special birthday since my husband had once casually recommended it to my son and it was nice to act on this. In the event we had to postpone not once, but twice (our fault - with various things arising) and each time this was managed cheerfully and helpfully, with the staff taking steps to ensure that we were not charged as "no shows". They also listened to my concerns about background noise levels, going so far as to send me their playlist by e-mail along with the promise to keep the music as low as possible, and careful thought given to where were to be seated. We were nicely out of the way of the speakers and the kitchen door - round a corner in lovely privacy, but the service was still attentive without being intrusive. The food also excellent - creme brulee is quite often to get right and what I had was spot on. Full marks all round.
