Ordered a box of 6 frozen standard steak (if you can call it that!) pasties online direct from Rowe's. They were so awful I couldn't eat the first one and the rest have gone in the bin. There was none of the usual pieces of steak. Instead was a bit of gristly mince of some kind. Nothing like they used to be. They were one my favourite Cornish steak pasty, not any more. Wasted £22.00. They don't even have the courtesy to reply to my email regaring the changed recipe. Save your money, buy elsewhere.

When in Cornwall try saffron cake or saffron buns with or without butter. Rowe's of Redruth bakers produce large and small cakes and individual buns. All superb. Very few supermarkets in UK sell this Cornish delight so when we return to the Duchy we have to stock up. 5 large in the freezer. We are happy smiling Janners. Enjoy.

YES!! Found GF pasty in Cornwall. It was very lovely. You will need to order it, and the wait is approx an hour, we walked up the high street and had a wander round the shops. I also had a GF sausage roll for the next day which was also very tasty. I understand they do postal orders and I am very tempted. The staff were friendly. The cost was very reasonable

One of our party is gluten intolerant and wanted to see if he could eat a pasty whilst in Cornwall. Roses really came up trumps on this. A gluten free pasty was produced for him by the staff !! He had to wait an hour that was a small detail ! Rowes is a chain but that didnt stop him getting very individual service. He was delighted with his pasties thank you Rowes for making his Cornish holiday complete

I put in my order for a gluten free pasty and then went off for an hour. I haven't eaten a pasty since being gluten and diary intolerant so I must admit I was excited. I even intended asking if I could buy some to take home. The pasty came and I tore it apart to let it cool. The first mouthful was disappointing. The pastry was hard and tasteless and so was the filling. I persevered hoping it would get better but sadly it didn't.

What a fabulous find! On a day trip to Penzance from Devon. I'm gluten-free and dairy-free and it can be difficult to find suitable food. One thing I have really missed is a pasty when on holiday. And here they were - gluten-free, dairy-free, separately wrapped, so no risk of cross-contamination. Beautifully made, the pastry held together - no mean feat with gluten-free pastry - and the pasty tasted, well, just like a pasty should! Meaty, slightly spicy, yummy. The shop was sparklingly clean, well, lit, staff were friendly, knew their stuff (i.e. why the pasties needed to be separately wrapped). With another friend also gluten-free and she loved her pasty as well. I wish there was a Rowe's in my high street!

May 7, 2017 - After leaving St. Michael's Mount, we drove into the town and harbor of Penzance. It was around 12:45pm when we stopped at Rowe's Cornish Bakers which was founded in 1945. Our guide told us that the pasties were the best in Cornwall and he was absolutely correct. We had tried a few pasties since arriving in England and Cornwall, but none compared with the fresh soft crust and moist, tasty contents of Rowe's pastie.I had the chicken pastie while my wife had the steak pastie; both medium size. They were both delicious. If you visit Penzance or are nearby, stop at Rowe's to get a tasty pastie!

We tried other pasty shops in Penzance, but loved Rowe's (the one in the town square next to Domino's pizza). The staff were very friendly and courteous and the pasties we ordered were delicious. We had the chicken with white wine and sausage rolls. We also ended up coming back later in the day for more pasties and some desert pastries as well! Very clean store and you have the option to eat in as well. I would highly recommend eating in the store as they will warm it up for you and nothing beats a warm Cornish pasty!

I agree with the previous reviewer. I have been visiting Rowe's bakery shops in Cornwall since 1995. For many years Rowe's were well known for their consistently good Cornish pasties and I used to love them and would excitedly look forward to the next one. The secret or winninjg formula was that they were always baked to perfection - with an excellent crisp and slightly flaky pastry recipe which was generously filled with the highest quality lean steak and with plenty of swede, onion and just the right amount of potato (not too excessive), and a perfect balance of salt and black pepper seasoning. However, sadly the quality and consistency has really gone downhill over the past 3 years and I would now rate their pasties as only average. The main reason being that they do not seem to bake their pasties for long enough like they used to meaning that the pastry is often pale, and nearly always undercooked. I think that they have also changed the pasty recipe since 2011 (now more insipid short crust) and do not glaze the pastry with egg like they used to. Also I believe the seasoning to be 'lighter' and the meat not so tender and tasty as it once was. Used to be more like rump/fillet beef now more like cheaper chuck steak as the mass production engine as kicked in. Overall verdict - still reasonably good but used to be SUPERB. Please Rowe's go back to the glory days!

Before there was a Rowe,s pasty shop in Penzance, I used to travel to Helston to buy their excellent pasties. Eventually a Rowe,s shop opened in Penzance which was very exciting. The pasties were very good most of the time for the first few years. In the last couple of years, I have found their pasties very disappointing. The pasties I have purchased recently seem under cooked with pale soggy pastry. They seem very dry inside with a lack of turnip and onion. The meat seems quite good quality, but often there is too much meat in a large heap on one end or the other. I now just walk into the shop to see if there is any visual improvement, but I usually walk straight out without making a purchase. It, a great pity the standard of the pasties has deteriorated.

Rowe's was recommended to us by our host as the best place in Penzance for Cornish pasties. After we tried a few other local sellers, we totally agree with her assessment of these being the best in town. We found the pastry was flaky, light and not too thick, especially around the edges and the filling, in the chicken ones, was not over salted, as we found some. We each ate one of these for our lunch along with some veggies. The next day, we ate them cold during a train journey and found them still very palatable despite our host cringing at eating them cold. We did not try any of their other food or baking.
