We used to come to the Rowan Tree when it was in the Town Quarry but, since the quarry closed for repairs, the cafe is now situated in Wadham Street, where the Heritage Centre used to be. The food is just as nice as before! We had cheese and pickle sandwiches, salad and a bowl of crisps. Lovely tea, too, just right! Toilet pristine! Highly recommended!

I came here with my daughter on a gloriously sunny day! We were going to sit inside in the shade but it was very busy and crowded with like-minded diners, so we took a table outside in a sort of leafy bower in the shade! Very nice! We had cheese and chutney sandwiches (cut very daintily into triangles), salad and crisps in little china bowls, plus pots of tea. It was idyllic, to say the least! Inside the Rowan Tearoom there is a proper toilet (in place of the previous earth closet), a little museum and a shop with hand-made jewellery etc. We had a really lovely day! Highly recommended!

Wonderful spot in a gorgeous and peaceful setting. Unfortunately, the owner was unable to welcome with a smile, let alone serve us a diet coke and a coffee unless we waited half an hour - incredible! He un-apologetically stated that he had 7 other drinks to make first - surprising as a catering establishment, should they not have a coffee machine /staff that can make more than one coffee at a time?

We walked from the Pier in Weston around to Sands bay and back through the woods. We found the Rowan tree (easily) ... after the tiring walk the log burner on a cold December day was most welcome.... great selection of cake and a pretty professional Cappuccino .... its worth the walk to the back of town to find a peaceful well managed cafe in the old quarry ....we will be back

Well, it was actually thick fog, but the Town Quarry is still as beautiful, nevertheless! We had a quick look round, and then headed for the tea=room out of the cold! The tea-room was so warm, inviting and welcoming, with the log burner outdoing itself throwing out generous warmth! We had a look round the artworks and pottery exhibition, all very well done by the various local artists. The tea and coffee were just right, and on our next visit we plan to have lunch as there is a very nice varied menu on offer. There is a small museum and a jewellery shop much of it hand-made). On particular open days you can actually visit the artists who have small studios there. Toilet is available!

We walked half an hour uphill a mile through WSM suburbs, a long way from the seafront to find it closed. I’d checked beforehand on Tripadvisor and on it’s own Facebook & website business hours pages, all saying they were open. They’d chosen to close for a few days. A wasted afternoon. I hope they take more care of the food prep than of their customer care.

Came here for lunch and the sun was shining! The Town Quarry is just as beautiful in the springtime when everything is burgeoning! Sadly I believe the blacksmith is no longer working there but the building is still in situ to admire. Our lunch in the Rowan Tree Tea Room was very nice, very tasty grilled cheese panini, crisps and salad. The only thing lacking was - no vinegar! But the chutney was so tangy it almost made up for it! The serving staff are very friendly and pleasant. As an extra interest, there is a small museum which gives the history of the stones quarried here (my house being built of those very stones). There is also an artist's studio (artist is Jack Hicks) in the quarry and he invited us in for a look around and a chat about his work. All extremely interesting.

We came here after a long time away because of the Covid problem. It was so good to be back and a fair few other townsfolk obviously thought the same. There is seating outside and inside, so we chose to sit outside as it was a very hot day but with a cooling breeze - so very pleasant amidst the gorgeous surroundings of the ancient quarry. There is a working smithy in the quarry where Nathan Bennett still works his metals. The cafe has a lovely selection of food. We chose cheese and pickle sandwiches on brown bread with salad and crisps. Mayonnaise was provided in little sachets. There is a pristine toilet inside the cafe. There is also a beautiful little shop with handmade jewellery on sale. The staff are friendly and efficient! My advice? Go, go, go..!

Thought we'd call in on a Sunday morning after hearing lots of positive comments on social media. The Quarry area outside is the right kind of managed wilderness and teaming with bird life; small song birds, jays, magpies, jackdaws, plus the star bird of the day, a wild peregrine falcon! After such excitement we dived into the cosy cafe where the fire was already blazing. There was a good choice of dishes and the food was super tasty, fresh and homemade. Service was easy/ friendly and we didn't have to wait long. Lovely gift shop and artist exhibition galleries all on site, plus free parking. We will definitely be calling again very soon!

I've been here many times but today was particularly lovely with the sun beating down from a cloudless sky on the peaceful scene. We ordered our lunch, Greek salad with olive bread, and ate outside overlooking the quarry itself. The only sound to be heard? The birds, many of which nest in the nooks and crevices of the old stone workings. We had cups of tea which was delightful and refreshing. Afterwards we browsed the art exhibition in the actual tea room. There's always something going on at the quarry! Marvellous place, a hidden gem, the best-kept secret of Weston-super-Mare!

The tea room is situated in an old industrial building inside a long-time redundant limestone quarry which provided the stone for the many fine Victorian residential and business units in the seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare. It shares the complex with a few other 'Craft' businesses. The Tea room is essentially one large room with a very high ceiling with exposed constructional ironwork. The walls are festooned with (very good) works of art offered for sale by local artists. The ambience is ' clean/basic' with no pretensions, but the coffee and toasted tea cakes my wife and I ordered were excellent and very nicely served. The owners were very friendly and cheerful. We have also recently attended an 'after hours' social event at the tea room and it was a really good venue with plentiful parking both off-road and on-road. There is outside seating as well and the quarry itself is a local heritage site with an opportunity for a modest 'walk-round'. Well worth a visit for a different sort of experience.

This tea room in the Town Quarry is a centre of excellence for art and artistic pursuits. Now we have yet another splendid display, this time by Steve Wheeler (famous professional artist) and his students, who are all residents at Acer House where they meet for weekly art sessions. Apparently one of these amateur artists had a scholarship offered but could not accept because of the outbreak of WWII. We are asked to decide which of the artists is the "scholarship girl" - but it is impossible because the standard is so very high. I was truly thrilled by all these paintings. And then of course there is the lovely food on offer, also of very high quality.

I went here today with my binoculars to see the birds in the Old Town Quarry and called at the Rowan Tree for an ice cream as the weather was so hot. I stood to the side of a woman who was paying for her meal, and, when she had departed, the waiter who had been serving her simply ignored me and turned back to his counter-work! I was so incensed! I called out "excuse me, I'm waiting to be served" - and he turned towards me with such a look of indignation on his face as if I had insulted him! I felt like asking him whether I was invisible! But I didn't, I remained polite and asked for an ice cream. There is a lack of indifferent customer service in this cafe which I have noticed before and never mentioned but today I felt it had to be recorded! I know I'm old but surely that shouldn't make me invisible?

But there is parking if you want to drive up.... It is lovely and quiet in the old quarry and very relaxing. My partner had the quiche, toasted baguette and salad with a cappuccino, all which he said were delicious. I asked for the jacket potato with mushrooms which was deviating off the menu slightly. Not a problem, they were happy to oblige and it came with salad which was tasty. We sat outside, the walk up the hill had made us very hot and while the tea room was nice it was just too warm for us. After a large pot of tea and a bottle of water, I had to use the outside 'long drop' toilet before the walk down the hill. My partner was a bit taken aback by it but if you go into the bush in Africa, they are quite normal and this is rather 'upmarket' in comparison :). A delightful afternoon sitting outside listening to the birds, eating and chilling out and we would go back.

We visited the Weston Town Quarry where these tearooms are situated today, firstly to view Robin Gray's art exhibition which is on display. There was a lot to see, so we decided to stay for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised at the generous amount of food! we had thick slices of malty brown bread in our cheese sandwiches, plus huge salad, cole slaw and a bowl of potato crisps. All washed down by a large pot of tea plus jug of hot water! Very reasonable, nay cheap cost! We were thrilled at having our minds and bodies fed in such a lavish way! The little shop is also very interesting, with handmade jewellery for sale. There is a small museum showing how stone was quarried for the houses in Weston town. You can't get a better view for a meal or a brew than this quarry. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Took my young son, who was 'starving', into the Rowan Tree about 45 minutes before they were due to serve hot food. No problem, they just started 'lunches' earlier! All the food is homemade and delicious. Vegetarian options are not just the same old same old, and the cakes are too tempting for words! There are many choices of beverage and many of the teas, including good old builders' tea, are leaf tea and not tea-bags. A true gem of a restaurant. This tearoom is situation inside the Old Town Quarry which is millions of years old! Most of the houses in Weston-super-Mare are built from stone quarried here over the years. Quarrying has ceased now and the whole place is a wonderful haven for flora and fauna! The cafe itself is in an idyllic spot just inside the gates and has several artists' studios incorporated into the building. Many art exhibitions are held here each year and there is a little shop inside the cafe which sells jewellery etc, some of it hand-made. There is also a tiny museum showing the stages of preparing stonework and photographs of some early houses.. Apart from that, the cafe serves wonderful meals and cakes, plus tea and coffee of course. We had a snack lunch and then, after our walk, a savoury tea. Service was excellent and the food tasty and well presented, the tea especially appreciated after our hike. Back in the car park, my wife bought an ice cream from the Tea Rooms' kiosk and then left her walking poles leaning against the wall (!) when we drove off. We discovered this when we got home and phoned the Tea Rooms. Without hesitating, David offered to go and see if the poles were still there - which they were - and then have them ready when we were able to return to pick them up during the following week. Exceptional service from a kind and thoughtful proprietor. Many, many thanks for your kindness.
