Route-One Deal / Route One on the Prom in Dover

Stopped for a coffee. Ended up with boiled milk and a very weak black coffee. Very odd as we asked for actual coffee. Bring a thermos and sit on the beach. It would be better

Absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful salmon & cream cheese bagel, and a nice range of soft drinks. Staff are friendly, as are the local clientele - what a laugh! Situated almost on the beach, so the sea views don't get any better than this!

Attitude for service staff was disinterested and very rude The latte was more like hot milk, didn't complain becuse I dont think they care enough to listen.

The food and service is rubbish. The only way it attracts customers is the view. No matter how much you order there, if any of the waiters see you getting as small as a chewing gum out of your purse they will run like an unleashed dog to tell you off. Unlike, other cafes where as long as you're a paid customer you can bring some biscuits with you. On the other hand, you can totally have fun by watching their waiters running around like chickens without heads, messing up the orders consistently!!! :)))) However, it wasn't fun when they totally forgot my order which , by the way, you pay upfront. I live in Deal and it's a bit sad how mismanaged is this beautiful cafe. You can tell that the staff itself is not treated well either by their management, by how angry and frustrated they are. On the bright side, you can always have your meal next door, in the Boathouse; same view, amazing food and service! :)

The food was good and arrived quickly but the staff (all girls ) showed quite a sullen demeanour … sorry to be blunt but only one blonde girl smiled and interacted .. the rest just seemed to show no interest . It gave the impression that it was too much trouble to take the order ! And looked quite blank when we were ordering food … with little acknowledgement or interaction . Usually in a cafe / restaurant you do expect staff to show a little more interest and interaction . It didn’t make for a pleasant experience though again we cannot fault the food ( we visited on Saturday 18 th around 12 md )

Lovely location when the sun is shining. However manager didn’t present a friendly atmosphere, very short and wasn’t very polite. Although the other waitresses were able to bring a positive and friendly atmosphere, I felt money wasn’t wanted, such a shame!

Stopped by on a cycle last weekend late in the afternoon. Staff couldn't be more friendly or attentive. Good honest cafe grub, nicely presented and quickly served. Would definitely come back.

Popped in for an ice cream, great service from who I presumed to be the owner, very friendly and ice cream was delish!

Needed a coffee and snack so popped in here today , lovely and friendly staff , great tasty food, very reasonably priced and the dog could sit with us too ( outside tables) thankyou

Came in here on the off chance as another place i liked to go to was closed and I'm very glad i did ordered two cheese and ham toasties and to cups of tea for around 14.88 plus 2 ice creams so in total 20 odd quid and was worth every penny the toasties was done just the way I like it with I nice portion of saled with dressing and the cup of tea well you get a pot which is enough for 3 and I ordered 2 great value for money or what and the ice cream was out of thus world nice. With great staff to as well we had a great laugh with singing and talking that with the lovely sea view I would definitely go here again and would strongly recommend to everyone me and my fiance had a blast

Lovely café right on the seafront, you couldn't ask for a better view while having a light bite and drink. Friendly, quick service with seating inside and outside. Quite a nice choice of snacks and drinks at reasonable prices.

Went here today ordered a few drinks to take away, was not offered a tray to carry them like my other family members did who had gone in before myself which led me to spill my drink before even leaving the shop. I asked for a wooden stick for my coffee and was made to wait while the waitress placed them all neatly in the glass before I was offered one. Seemed very unfriendly! And the coffee I ordered was a caramel latte and I couldn't drink it as was way too sweet even though I've had plenty in other places! I wont be spending my money here again!

Great cafe right on the esplanade near the pier . Really welcoming staff and you can sit indoors, outdoors in the shade or fully outdoors. Drinks were hot and reasonable value. Ice cream too.

First time visit, just had a couple of hot drinks, no problems at all, unfair to comment on food has we didn't order any crab salad looked tempting! Nice location and friendly staff all in all nice experience!

The ladies here are so friendly. Thank you for a delicious lunch on our cycle ride. There is a big selection of savoury food and also cakes, scones and ice cream. Nice seating looking at the sea and pier, some in the shade. Highly recommend!

Very small inside but additional seating outside, all with a great view of the beach and pier. Level entry and disabled toilet and disabled parking right outside, which my passenger needed

The views are gorgeous. Even on a windy day it was nice to sit outside there, shielded from the wind by the building. Food is okay - hot dishes are not fancy but well done. They have nice looking cakes. I just didn’t try them… :)

Come down on my motorbike often, lovely cafe and amazing service. Not to mention incredible coffee. Nice place to sit on a warm sunny day and relax with a sea view

Not many better places to sit for a coffee or a pint on a sunny day than right on the seafront at Route One. Haven't tried to food yet but it looked good.

Lovely little place to stop off on a bike ride. Sea front position with great views. Open til 9pm ish, 7 days a week for alcohol and light bites. Great friendly staff Will be making this a regular stop off point.

It is a small little quiet place. It wasn't too crowded. You could more older people than young ones. There are a few coffee shops and a pub where you can find something decent to eat and drink.

Attn Louise Grinstead i believe the owner of Route 1 My partner & I decided to partake in a bite to eat & drink at Route 1. The location was very good right on the beach overlooking the pier, the ambience was also good everything you would expect from a seafront restaurant, the staff generally were polite. But I must bring the following to your attention The table was dirty and not cleaned before we sat down or ordered, I had to ask for it to be cleaned but not before the staff member had over filled the milk jug & that also added to the dirty table. We ordered toasted sandwiches which were very nice. A cappuccino which came in a dirty cup with another person's lipstick still on the side (see pic) a pot of Earl grey tea it arrived with a chipped & cracked spout, I mentioned this and it was quickly replaced with another tea pot which also had a cracked & chipped spout when I bought this to your staff they replied they are all like that, not the answer I expected, however they did find a tea pot that wasn't damaged.prior to receiving our food we were asked to pay they bill, which I found a little odd, the staff answered that our boss said we have to do this, please explain why you have this process as I cannot understand. Regarding the dirty coffee cup & the damaged tea pots i asked your staff if it was standard to inspect all items of cutlery after they have been washed, they had no idea. I had to ask for serviettes it didn't seem the norm to offer them upon serving the food. We were offered a refund for the cappuccino for which I was grateful however the staff member seemed that the £3 refund was all it takes to ease & diffuse a delicate situation, she lacked empathy or understanding. The manager spoke to us but lacked managerial skills to win over an unhappy customer, she was polite enough but lacked the knowledge to be able to offer adequate answers for me to understand your company process.

Good , kind , pleasant service , worth coming for that alone

A bit pricy but good quality food and latte.

Now more restaurant than cafe but wide ranging menu, allergy aware, vegan friendly and very attentive staff.

We were visiting Deal for the day and this place provided a great place to sit in the sun and have a drink. The staff were really friendly and happy to help. Drinks were good and although we didn't eat the food looked nice. We were really pleasantly surprised to find they also did takeaway drinks in plastic glasses so we could take our second round down onto the beach and enjoy them there.

Lovely little place. Coffee and hot chocolates were delicious with lots of cake options. Lots of different gins available and some flavoured ciders. Oh and some gorgeous ice-cream!

A nice place to stop off and enjoy looking out to sea. However, it's overpriced for food and drink and lacking in facilities, so it's the view you are paying for

Tuna cheddar melt is lovely and the coffees are great. Also nice place to have a sneaky beer!

Normally I love this place. And visiting on new years day, you expect a wait, completely fine. What we don't expect is loads of people being served before us, 3 times we asked for straws for my 8/3yr old, once my 8yr old went in, asked the waitress, got told 'yes 1 sec', she stood inside for 5 mins whilst she ignored her, so she just came back to table. I'm fine with a busy service but ignorant poor service is not OK. We just threw £10 on the table, told the waitress we were leaving, and left. Awful experience!

Lovely to sit out on Deal prom and have a really good coffee with friends while looking at the calm sea. Maybe tables could be wiped a bit more often to make it even more appealing? (ours had crumbs on). Staff lovely and friendly.

Good reviews but sadly not up to expectations. Flat white was a milky coffee and pretty tasteless. They could not froth a soya milk flat white, and you pay before it arrives. All in all a bit disappointed

We arrived just in time as we were looking for a light snack. The lady who welcomed us in and was very helpful offering to make us sandwiches which we accepted and enjoyed. We will go back again .

Great little place close to the pier and next to a car park. I enjoyed the view along the beach and out to the pier. I had crab salad, it was delicious and very fresh, some balsamic vinegar on my salad would have been nice.

Fish finger sandwich was awesome, they even toasted it for me. The latte hmmmm maybe another shot of coffee would be nicer but I am sure if I had asked they would have obliged. Nice to sit outside, especially when it's sunny. Oh and dig friendly! Deal can get a but windy so hold onto your hats.

Great location with beautiful views. Found it a bit on the expensive side. Probably designed more for the tourist then a local retreat.

Last summer, my husband ordered and paid for 2 x half largers. The lady behind the bar, a different lady, served up 2 pints instead. My husband pointed this out but the lady just shrugged and said ‘they’re yours’. We didn’t really want a whole pint each - especially as my husband was driving home but not wanting to make a scene, he picked up the drinks and walked off. 2 minutes later a different lady comes running down the promenade to where we were sitting, demanding that my husband was to come back to the kiosk to stump up the extra money for the pints. Undeterred by our explanation, she insisted that we pay for something we didn’t order or want. Again, we didn’t want to cause a scene and so just stumped up the extra cash but we were not impressed at all. Won’t be visiting again.

Lovely to see Route One open again but my friends and I were so disappointed with our weak as water lattes. Asked for another shot but still not good. We had to tip them away. Please invest in some really good coffee as there is a lot of coffee competition in Deal.

Visited here October 2020. It’s okay; I think I was a bit put off as I fancied a toasted sandwich but was told very firmly they weren’t doing hot food. I’d hardly classify a toasted sandwich as needing much heating. It’s a nice spot by the sea though.

Great place to stop and enjoy the view on Deal promenade. We had a couple of cappuccino coffees here. Large cups, nice and hot and clean tables. Well done Route one!

The place to have coffee or a drink in Deal. Great seafront location at the foot of the historic pier, so great views. Some chairs and tables or you can sit on the sea wall and socially distance very covid friendly , recommended.

We stopped and sat on the sea wall when my Mum who has heart problems started to feel very unwell. This wonderful café helped us out by getting mum a chair putting her in the shade and giving us all ice cold water as we waited for dad to get the car to take mum home. A lady called Vanessa who works here couldn't help us enough. Although we didnt eat or drink here, the service was so lovely. Imagine what the food is like if the milk of human kindness is present in its staff! Thank you so much for looking after us! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

When all other beer retailers failed, this absolute gem was doing take away pints on the beach. I nearly cried when I found it. Coffee is good too and the staff are all lovely

Visited before and always good fare. During lock down and beyond it has supplied a take away service for drinks and sundries. The sea front is a great place to consume either alcoholic or soft drinks or go and sit on the beach, just dispose of the plactic containers sensibly.

Friendly well organised covid 19 safe takeout. Will be even better when public toilets reopen?. Couple of prosecco and a coffee then had to go home for the loo.
