Ordered dhalpouries from Roti Joupa (David) on the recommendation of reviews and someone I know. It was the WORST DHALPOURIE I’ve have ever had. It was large but it had no split peas (or any filling) in it, it was just simply bread and charging £2.00 each I consider daylight robbery. I foolishly ordered 50 without trying it but thinking that if the reviews were good, it must be good - my mistake! I also ordered phoulourie with tamarind chutney and once again, it was all doughy and the chutney was literally thin and tasteless like water. To add injury to the wound I overpaid £10 and emailed David and told him and he did not even had the decency to acknowledge it. They have lost a potential good customer and I hope that anyone ordering from them the best of luck but my advice would be not to bother as there are better places who make Dhalpouries the way it should be made. IT ALL ENDED UP IN THE BIN and I lost £120 which is a lot of money in this economic climate.

This was my first experience of trinny food and it was a fun experience. Been a novice I chose to go medium heat and this was fine for me. The “doubles” seem to be the most popular item. Rotis filled with curried meat and rice which is best eaten by hand. I also loved the macaroni pie a traditional Caribbean favorite. They appear to do a great takeaway business and are very popular with locals. Worth trying out if your passing through Clapham.

Placed a order from the menu we was sent for 4pm collection. Food wasn’t ready until almost 5 and then they decided to charge us almost a extra £30 because they state they added £1 onto every item on the menu but this was never stated to me when we ordered. The food well never have I had frozen food before the curry mango was frozen solid so couldn’t eat it. The pholouries where chewy and cold.Macaroni pie tasteless, bus up shot was dry and hard is parts. We threw most of this away considering we spent almost £100 on food for a large group we was disgusted by what we received never again will we come here or even recommend it.

Clapham needs to learn from the Shepherd's Bush branch. I've only ever had hot pholouri there. Very disappointed and won't waste my time going to Clapham again! To describe Roti Jouper merely as a Caribbean Takeaway is so missing something that distinguishes this and The Shepherd’s Bush take-out from all the other Carib Takeaways. What makes this place so special? It is an authentic Trinidadian Takeaway, the creations from this beautiful island are distinctly different from the rest of the Caribbean. That this place is always busy speaks volumes, having previously visited Trinidad & Tobago I can vouch that the delicious wide ranging menu is 100% authentic. The cheerful staff who work here from these islands serve you with a smile and help to create a ‘buzz.’ On the menu there is far more to explore than just the overhead displays, check out the mouth watering Mac Cheese cakes and bread. Also so much from the menu you can freeze, so well worth the effort to stock up if you have some distance to travel.Roti Jouper was actually discovered quite by accident, and one very positive outcome after my dear friend from Trinidad had been robbed of a purse ( eventually returned intact minus all the cash bar £1 ) seeking solace at a café outside Archway Tube Station, we struck up conversation after picking up a Trini accent, ‘if you want authentic Trini food, do get yourselves down to Roti Jouper in Clapham and mention that Raij Paul Barrackpoor sent you’ Within five minutes we were on our way, just round the corner from Clapham North on the Northern Line, or Clapham High St on the Overground, and wow we were soon transported back to Trinidad. Ordered a massive takeout, which my dear friend took back to her flat in Portslade Brighton. On 16th October I popped back for another order so heavy that the canvas bag came apart at the seams, this will soon be on its way with me back to Brighton, and thanks for the very generous ‘extras.’If you are used to the ubiquitous Caribbean Jerk Chicken and have not yet tried Trini food, go on be adventurous widen your culinary palette and get yourself down to Roti Jouper, you will not be disappointed!

Today we continued our quest for an authentic Trinidadian roti in London. At Roti Joupa, the old talk back in the kitchen was reassuringly Trini. However, the offerings need some work. I ordered a lamb curry roti. The lamb curry was pretty good, but the roti was not the right texture and the flavour was not there. It is not easy to make a good dal puri roti, but I've had a lot of good ones in my time. Maybe this art is being lost in London? We also ordered doubles, which was disappointing. The channa was sort of mashed, so it didn't have the right texture and the flavourings needed some work. Sad to say, no Solo red was available. What's roti without a Solo red?

I am admittingly a Trini food novice so I’m rating this place based on my tastebuds. The food is delicious. I got the doubles and whilst I was surprised the filling had the texture of refried beans (rather than the whole chickpeas I had at a roti place in Stokie), it was delicious and a bit spicy. I could have devoured two of them! I also got the shrimp roti with all four of the veg fillings option. However, opening it at home, it was heavy on the chickpeas and spinach but I didn’t detect pumpkin. Oh well! It still tasted fantastic (and is not as spicy as the doubles). For a total of £6.50 I had two dinners. Score.

I am from T'dad, been n UK since 1988- live n B'ham, can't find proper Trinidad food, Visited my mom & Auntie n London this week. Went 2 Roti Joupa Clapham High Street. Location is great- tube station just opposite. It's a small place. More takeaway than eat n, although, there r a few high stools 2 sit on with a little wooden rail across d window- (b careful when trying 2 sit on these as d floor is slippy & d stools move easily- so high risk of falling)- Staff seem friendly. Place seem clean. U can c d food being cooked. I bought a goat dhal puri, a chicken dhal puri, 4 doubles- all with hot pepper- I like it hot, hot, hot, also bought 2 plain Dhal puri & 2 karma- all 2 take back 2 B'ham! Couldn't wait to get home 2 try it all-- now about d food- d dhal puris are very large- not as filled with dhal & geera like I remember my mom doing, but still nice-( I suppose they have 2 make a profit somehow), meat & potato filling could do with more seasoning, but still nice, D doubles were yummy- more seasoning please! The kurma was nice, but my mom makes better!- Would I recommend - yes, would I visit again- yes. It was fab to see a place with proper Trinidad food- that is one market that has not been explored here in B'ham - here we have Jamaican food if we want Caribbean food!

The rotis under the previous owners were amazing, I likened it to my Mom's, her dhaal used to fall out when you tear into it with soft fluffy dough. Theses ones, no not a random roti, 5 in total, think the dhaal went on vacation and left a suggestion that it's a dhaal puri more like Saada. Curry was tasteless - always were though, call themselves Trini? Never going back there - ever. Oh don't think that's bodi, looks like regular beans, bodi's texture is different.

I was very excited to go to Roti Joupa and try out the food but I have to say that I was terribly disappointed. I am a Trini born and raised and I know how local Trinidadian food taste. I can only assume that anyone who gave their food an excellent has not tasted authentic roti/buss-up-shot/ curry goat etc. The food was appalling, smelt unpleasant, the buss-up-shot was very oily and burnt and the curry was watery with very little taste. (Even my little sister who was not born in Trinidad but know how buss-up-shot is supposed to taste wouldn't touch it when I came home with the food because it smelt so bad!)I feel sad to leave such a review about an establishment run by Trinidadians but I believe that credit should only be given where credit is due. Got to the location and it was packed, so I felt encouraged - if there are a lot of people food must be good right? Not really. What worked: The staff is great. The who took our orders was professional and thorough. We ordered several items and our order was totally correct. Service was quick. What didn't work: Food was lukewarm to cold. Some of it smelled like fish oil. The filling for the doubles was bland with a hint of shadow benny or cilantro. The sauce for the poulorie had an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. The biggest let down was the roti. The dhal puri skin had no dhal in it, so in essence it was a tortilla. I've never had a dhal puri roti without peas in the skin. The fillings for the roti were okay. Would hardly say this place is authentic.

Heard so much about this small takeaway that I thought I'd try their roti. I found it to be just OK. As a non meat eater, I chose the shrimps / prawn with curry as the filler. I was disappointed that it didn't have the full flavour I expect in a curry roti, it was very bland with just salt and pepper. I am so happy that I am able to make my own curry, which has a robust taste. I did go back, however, to purchase roti skins only as most of the times, i'm too lazy to make them. Well, first of all, they are supposed to open at 12 noon, and I was waiting patiently for this, but they finally opened 45 mins later! Anyway, bought my dhal puri and headed home fast. The dhal puri isn't like the ones back home with the gheera, etc but it was nice enough and remained hot for more than an hour so I was happy about that. I will only go back for their roti skins ONLY.

So far this is the best place to have authentic West Indian style Roti. Good that you can see them making them fresh then and there. But it's not the same as my aunts & uncles in St. Vincent (theirs are the best. If I do say so myself). And that's because this place puts too much potato in it. More potato than meat. My husband accompanied me this time as he fell in love with roti while visiting Trinidad last year. We started off with doubles each, followed by pholourie with tamarind sauce each then I had a chicken roti while he had shrimp. I ended with a bag of kurma. Drinks I had a cream soda, a red solo and some of his Apple J. I'm sorted until I go to Trinidad next month. Conveniently located opposite Clapham North stop it is an essential spot when you get homesick and just need a Trini food fix! Love it!

We bought buss up shot , prawns, veg, doubles and sweetbread. The buss up shot and veg was good however the curry prawns were almost white in colour -they must have run out of curry! The doubles were bearly edible , far too thin, very pale in colour and the channa was watery - but we really wanted trini food so we ate it. The entire family was looking forward to our trini food and we made a journey when Chealsea playing at home -pure traffic, so rather dissappointed.

My daughter told me about this place. Coming from the Islands, I drove down to Birmingham, from Mots, then to London to buy some food mostly rot skin and doubles.. waited a long time since they were busy, when we get our food the filling in the doubles was disgustful just a few grain of channa not even tasty, then when we get home to see the bloody roti skin was so thin you could have fly it as a kite.... for the money I paid I felt so cheated as people are paying fro their food and should be given what they pay for... stinginess is sad but thru... please people pay attention to what you are paying fro everyone need to write on here and then maybe they don't even know the different's in the food I do I was born and raise on the islands...Will not be going back there and to think my daughter takes her friends there she doesn't know the different since she was born in the UK...

I was visiting England and, heard about this place. As one who is familiar with 'Trinidad' food, wanted to enjoy a 'roti.' Unfortunately, it was one of the worse meals I have had and ended up throwing out some of the half eaten dishes. Doubles: hardly! there was more watery slush than chick peas (Channa.) and the doubles (puri) was very thin and was not the genuine stuff. When I said it was too watery was told: wait until it gets cold it will be thicker, Really? I did not want to have 'cold' doubles and wanted to 'some' channa; the supposed lamb seemed to be not- I am a beef eater and know my beef . I could be wrong however, I did not feel as if I were eating 'lamb.' Dhalpourie barely contained any 'dhal' (ground split peas.) Overall, I regretted going there and though some may find the food the food served here good, I did not.

Humble little shop front with a real Trini feel serving COMPLETELY AUTHENTIC Trini cuisine. The doubles were beautiful. The curry goat roti was massive and filling. The medium hot pepper sauce is hot enough and tasty without being overpowering. I loved it, it took me straight back to Trinidad and Tobago. I'll be returning again.

One of the best takeaways in London, Roti Joupa never fails to disappoint. The doubles are a firm favourite, and the stew chicken and curry chicken rotis are worth a try. It's a no-frills kind of place, but if you're after tasty Trinidadian food and aren't fussed about sitting in to eat, then it's great.

About the place: Clean and neat. It has the look of a typical take away, eat in, "do not stay long" shop as in Trinidad. About the people: Very friendly and warm About the food: I am a Trinbagonian (more specifically from Trinidad) and I was in London for 8 days and I ate lunch there 7 days. The roti's and condiments are very good and the "doubles" is also quite tasty (only the channa for the "doubles" needs improving) and is a must if wanting to try "Trinbagonian street food. Roti Joupa reminded me instantly of a good roti shop in Trinidad. Not doubt that if one would like to try Trinbagonian "Indian food" then I highly recommend here. We also visited another place, where the price was double. The food was also good but the curried food was not as comparable to Roti Joupa's so, there's no need to look for other places. Lastly, buy the kurma as a dessert, it is very delicious!

I come here on a regular occasion and I am never disappointed. The doubles are amazing, the macaroni pie is perfect and whatever is in that cucumber chutney is absolutely divine. Would also advise any roti and if you want to get messy try the the buss up shot. They will see me again shortly.

Taken here by a native. I tried the stew chicken while everyone ordered roti. My stew chicken was nice, moist, the juice with it was amazing with rice. I also loved their doubles, a bit spicy but very good. The dough ball with tamarind sauce (sorry don't know the dish name) was amazing. 1st experience with Trini food was excellent and will definitely come back here.

The first time I sampled roti was from a takeaway in Shepherds Bush, I wasn't that impressed, the flavours were nice, but the chicken was undercooked & we had to wait almost an hour for the roti - I didn't rush back. The second time I tried a roti was when I was in Antigua & my god, it was great. I got back to London & asked around to see where I could find a roti that was going to live up to my dreams, Roti Joupa was recommended.Since first coming here, I've revisited multiple times. The staff serving in there are actually FROM Trinidad. You know that you're going to be eating traditional Trini food & not a watered down version, pandering to the British palette. I've tried a few different roti's from here, I always seem to go back to prawn with added pumpkin (yes, you can add pumpkin. yes, you should). I also highly recommend their macaroni pie, they put a sweet tamarind sauce on top with what I think is pickled cucumber - so, so good. The portions are decent, it's great value for money & the food is just delicious. I no longer live in the area so whenever I find myself in Clapham, I always try & pay Roti Joupa a visit - I cannot recommend enough.Personally, I always get take away but there are a couple of stools that you can perch on to eat your food.

I ate here for the 3rd time on April 20th 2015. The restaurant's name, meaning "Roti Shack" derives from "Roti" a Trinidadian-Indian version of a Tortilla and "Joupa" an Indian word for hut or shack. The food at Roti Joupa is always freshly prepared & delicious. The dough part, called a "bake" is prepared fresh as & when needed. It can be plain or with dhal (peas) in the middle. The filling can be, Goat, Chicken, Lamb or Vegetable. The Roti is eaten like a sandwich. In addition to a Roti, you can also have peas & rice, Bhodi (a type of bean), Channa, Fried Fish, Stew Chicken, Macaroni Pie or "Doubles" a Trinidadian version of a Taco. In addition, they do something called "Buss Up Shirt". This is a cooked roti bake ripped up so that it looks like a ripped up shirt. You then dunk it in what ever else you have ordered. The seating is of the bar stool type and looks out on to Clapham North. The décor reminds me of a beach side café. The food can be spiced to your requirements, just say "pepper" when ordering. I find the food at Roti Joupa to be of good quality and good value. Just remember to have a gel sanitiser/cleaner with you as you will definitely get curry on your hands when eating a roti or "Buss Up Shirt".

From the north of England, visited North London and travelled all the way to Clapham to indulge. What a disappointment. People who are overwhelmed by the quality of the roti and food served here clearly do not know what authentic Trini cooking is like. I agree with previous reviews. There is hardly any dhal filling in the roti and it tasted a bit bland. The price is too expensive for what you get. And yes, the customer service was below average and unacceptable. Wasted half a day of travelling and tube fare.

One of my favorite take away places in Clapham. It is a take away place with a couple of seats rather than a restaurant, so don't expect to sit and dine in style. But the food is delicious. Warning, hot means Caribbean (very) hot, recommend medium hot if you can't take your chili!

Well being Trinidadian I will admit that I am biased, but I am also discerning about my roti. I will say this: for a taste of back home this is the place that I come to every time I vest London. Fantastic home-style curry cooked by Trinidadians. They even do doubles and aloo pies. Always soca and chutney blasting in the background. I hope they never close. Love it.

If wanting to taste sunshine, eccentric flavour & rhythm all the way from Trinidad & Tobago in a plastic container than look no further than Roti Joupa. Situated a stones throw from Clapham North tube station, Roti Joupa is easily accessible when your stomach is talking to you in a manner which resembles a light snack, lunch or dinner. All food is fresh and value for money. I would throughly recommend macaroni pie in tamarind sauce (for when your body is craving *guilty yet oh so tasty* carbs) mixed veg, buss up & a portion of goat meat. Which is easily the best goat I've tasted in the Capital yet. I could go on & on singing the praises of Roti Joupa but I would be here all day. Throughly recommend this spot if your in and around Clapham, in the borough of Lambeth or even if your feeling a spontaneous detour off the Northern Line

Seeing I've been to Trinidad more times than you count on your left and right hand as well as living near and eaten in enough 'Caribbean' restaurants in south London I'd like to think my 2 cents will be acceptable.Firstly, I've had better. What? that's right but only in the highway roti shop in Trinidad, to find somewhere that can deliver those kind of flavours within the M25 is a godsend. The Dal Puri is tasty, and the curry is lovely, and remember to get the hot pepper sauce. The doubles are good but i prefer mine from Ali's in San Fernando.I always and I mean always eat here when in or near Clapham, the only thing that stops me is my waistline but its a tough choice. Try it, you definitely wont be disappointed, its a two cent guarantee.

Visited here last week in June 2014.Disappointed to get doubles a bit too salty, and roti with minimal fillings. The meat was tasteless to a large degree as it was missing salt, seasoning and pepper. Rather bland potato curry as it lacked the same. I've been a cook for decades, and this ranks as a big let down in comparison to my last visit. The new chap running it needs a little checking to ensure quality goes up.

We'll well we'll. This is sure taste bliss. The location is great as it's just opposite Clapham north tube station so it's so accessible by London transport. Andit's worth it. Be sure to try the RRoti eitherchicken lamb or cutry goat. And it's all halal meat yummy and blessed. But themain attraction has got to be the speciality of the house a dish called DOUBLES. if you've never had doubles, then new is the time to awake your taste buds. You can check out their menu online and for a fast food outlet it gets full very quickly , but every bite is worth the wait . it's not an eat in ting. It's a buy goodbye home eat ting. Ya Dig. Very warming and tasty take on a sunday roast. Ideally would liked a thicker gravey and fluffier potatoes but the crispiness was on point.
