We had a table booked for 10am on Saturday morning, but needn’t have worried because the cafe was still quite empty. Hot drinks were served quickly by the friendly waitress, always a good way to start. Our cooked breakfasts arrived in good time and were delicious! Two herby sausages, two thick rashers of bacon, beans, two fried eggs, toast, mushrooms. Perfectly cooked and all for £6 including a hot drink! The cafe was quite busy by 11am, but still one or two tables available. Overall good, friendly service and great value, tasty food. I’ll definitely go back!

Shocking all around. Puzzles me how this place got 4.5 rating from 200+ reviews. Dirty walls, dirty menus, things not available from the menu, cannot pay by card. Food pesentation non existent. Only reason for 2 stars rather than one was fairly decent tasting food (below standard but still decent-ish) and the waiter’s attitude, very apolegetic, nice, probably trying to make the most of an embarrassing situation. Oh, and the espresso was actually good:) Overall would not recommend and wouldn’t eat here ever again.

Was really looking forward to coming to Rosy Lee cafe for a breakfast with a friend. Was really praising how good it was. As I come here every week. But this visit was disappointing as we had to wait almost two hours for our food which was only a normal English breakfast. But the place was not busy enough to warrant that wait that long. When food came out, it was very cheap looking, sausages were not the normal type you got here. Bacon was cold and grim. Eggs burnt and toast burnt. I will not be coming back anytime soon and will be letting others know not to come here. Hopefully it will go back to it’s original ways.

Tried this place as I've driven past 100 times and never gone inside. Was a great idea! Lots on the menu to choose from, English and Moroccan dishes! Ranges from breakfasts, lunches and dinners, coffees and homemade milkshakes. I had a Morrocan chicken panini with sweet potato fries. Good side of salad too. Top notch 👌.

Impulse decision to drop in here for a cooked breakfast and wasn’t disappointed. Great value breakfasts on offer with decent quality food, like nice back bacon and lovely toast from proper fresh bread. Coffee was good too and the service very attentive. Will certainly become our first choice for cooked breakfast locally and looking at the menu, there is a good choice of alternative fayre. From memory there was a choice of burgers, steak pie, bruschetta, milk shakes, cakes and plenty of other options too. It seems that in the evenings it becomes a Moroccan restaurant and we’ll probably be giving that a try out too in the near future.

Ate here at the weekend as we've been taking the kids out for a weekend breakfast lately and trying different places in the area. I'd heard good things about the Rosy Lee and have only previously eaten here on an evening when it used to transform into a Moroccan restaurant. We were all really impressed with our breakfasts. Great choices on the menu including bubble and squeak as an option. Very reasonably priced especially for the quality of ingredients. Service was really warm and friendly and it's lovely little place to eat that's a cut above your standard cafe. If I have one small suggestion it would be to have a slightly better quality black pudding but that's probably just the Northerner in me. Highly recommend the Rosy Lee.

Will never eat here again. A party of five of us booked a table for 8pm tonight. The restaurant was busy and there were just two people taking orders and serving. Two of my party asked to share a starter and we ordered 5 main courses, two of which were the same. Starters came as ordered but only 4 main courses were delivered to the table. Apparently they thought the two who had shared a starter were sharing a main course too. A fifth main course was requested and we were later told they had run out and we would have to order something else. This we did and were told it would only be 5 minutes. By the time this eventually arrived the other 4 members of the party had finished their main courses. We then had to wait ages for a simple dessert to be delivered to the table. The bill duly arrived and we had been charged in full for the late main course When I suggested that they may want to reconsider, I was told that " you got what you ordered and she ate it all" I pointed out it wasnt what we actually ordered, we came out as a group to eat together and weren't able to do so, and I didn't feel we should pay in full but if they insisted, I would do so, but would not return to the restaurant again. They werent bothered about that and insisted we pay in full. We have eaten here several times in the past but will not be going back again.

Can't praise the food or service enough as this café transforms into a Middle Eastern restaurant. We really liked the dishes and the food was really tasty and served hot.

After dark this simple little cafe turns into a Morrocan cuisine delight. We visited as a party of 8. Not really expecting to much, no alcohol licence so it's bring your own. The only down side if I really have to find one. On the plus side, this kept the price down. And for the food they served up, well we definitely couldn't find fault. Everything was pipping hot and exceptionally tasty, authentic Morrocan cuisine. Would recommend this little gem with a word of warning, book in advance as we're not the only visitors to enjoy the delights on offer here, it's very busy and rightly so. 5*

Wow!! We had wanted to eat here for a while and was not disappointed. The decor is beautiful with lanterns and moroccan tiles etc. we have been to Morocco and the food matched up! It was gorgeous. I ordered the beef with peaches and it just melted on your mouth. They have a varied menu and the deserts are yum! You can take your own alcohol as they do not charge corkage. The atmosphere is fab as it's quite compact. I will definately be going back again. And again. Next time I'll order the cod tagine. The staff are sp friendly and my daughter commented that it was like being on holiday.

My partner and I very recently ate here for the first time in a couple of years. We fondly remember the Sunday roasts were to die for, sadly not any more.We remember a very extensive menu, no longer. Now a very limited menu and no Sunday roasts.I had meatballs in a spicy sauce. 6 tiny meatballs floating in what can only be described as a bowl of soup. This used to be one of the best cafes in the area

Visited Rosy Lee last night with my wife and parents. None of us had been before and were a little apprehensive given that it is just a café during the day. Food and service was very good indeed. The place was very busy so definitely book in advance. We had the mixed mezze to start which was delicious and tasted very authentic. For mains I had the house special and others had a lamb tagine, lamb skewers and chicken skewers. All of the meat was beautifully tender, particularly the lamb shank in the tagine which had been slow cooked. Portions were large and everything was served with rice, cous cous and chips, which made the chips seem a little unnecessary! My parents had ice cream for dessert, which was... ice cream- not much to say about it but as expected. Myself and my wife had baked figs with honey and they were delicious. We all agreed that we would return without hesitation. A very pleasant experience from start to finish.

Went here with a friend one Friday in April. I had heard good things about it at night, the bring your own booze appeals a lot too! We had a table for 2 about 8pm - lovely decor inside, great moroccan feel!Staff very friendly. We took our own bottle of prosecco so just ordered food. We had two starters and two mains and sides and a dessert - came to around £25 each - thought this was good value as we had our own drink and we also had a lot of food. Food was great quality. If you fancy a great night out and love moroccan food I recommend.

I have been here on many occasions and I would thoroughly recommend it. The Chef (Souf - sorry I've spelt this incorrectly) is such a lovely, friendly, down-to-earth man and very approachable. The food is the best I've ever tasted and the staff are so welcoming and lovely and bend over backwards to accommodate you and ensure that you have a good meal.AND not only is food excellent, you can take your own alcoholic drinks (Rosie Lee sell soft drinks so you don't take them) so you are just paying for your meal and soft drinks (if you have them).I would thoroughly recommend the breakfasts here too! Thank you Rosie Lee staff and Souf xx

Thursday evening with friends - we opted for the set menu and we were delighted. The starter presented 7 different tasty delights, with various breads. All dishes delicious and plenty of food. Main meal perfect size, both the meat and fish dishes we choose were perfectly cooked, came with salad, rice, cous cous and chips. The staff are polite, friendly and really helpful. This has to be my favourite restaurant to dine with friends as such a relaxed atmosphere and beautiful food.

I bring my dad here quite often and tge food is always lovely. A real mixture of tastes on one plate. The presentation of food is always amazing especially as during the day this is essentially a cafe and no one can argue about the portion sizes, I've never been able to clear the plate! The staff are really friendly and enthusiastic, interacting personally with each person who walks in. Well done everyone.

Just got back from an e evening spent at this venue. It's a cafe by day but transforms into a superb Moroccan restaurant at night. Superb food, great starters, the lamb tangine is mouth watering as a main course. I would recommend that, 3 different choices. The desserts are tasty and filling. The staff are friendly. Prices are good. It does get noisy as the evening progresses so beware of that if you don't like noisy restaurants. We didn't mind. Give it a try. We will certainly be going back.

We were a crowd of 15 on a Saturday night. It was absolutely packed. The food was great and the price was reasonable as you take your own drink. Would recommend, however, I would say it would be better to be in a smaller crowd as it's quite difficult to hear conversation due to being so crowded. Can definitely recommend the lamb shank.

Me and my mum have become regulars in this cafe. We come here once every two weeks before we collect the children from school. They have a lovely menu and the portions are generous. We always have a strong tea and maybe a sandwich. All reasonably priced and the girls that work there are always so friendly and cheerful. By evening this is a Turkish restaurant and you can bring your own drink. I haven't tried this out yet but by the photos on display within the cafe it looks like a fun night. The deco is lovely and authentic. Really love this place and great for kids and family. Big thumbs up from me and my mum.

Went here during the day when as I understand it's a bit different to the evening. It's a cafe, not quite greasy spoon but not over the top gourmet either. Very good portion sizes and great value. Staff were very friendly too.Lots of families in there for a Saturday lunch. Good for what it is

arrived for a pre-booked table on Monday, only to discover the doors locked, tables removed and 2 people in the back emptying the kitchens, called the same number I booked on to see if they were perhaps renovating and we should have been upstairs and found the phone wasn't connected. rather disappointing as the place had been recommended so we had booked as part of our trip to the area.

With Southend having limited options for halal dining, this is a good choice. The experience the first time I visited was a nice. The food is decent, and the staff on shift were very friendly and welcoming, leaving me wanting to come back. However, my second visit was less impressive. I went with a group of 15 to celebrate my brother's birthday, and the server seemed visibly irritated, both in his facial expressions and tone of voice. Despite this, I wouldn't discourage others from visiting, as the server might have just had a bad day. Overall, I think it's worth trying for a casual meal.

Just reading these reviews. I did not write a review at the time as I hoped it was an isolated incidence, and nobody enjoys leaving a negative review in this climate. I see nobody has mentioned the smell inside the restaurant. As I walked in I wrinkled my nose at a smell that wafted over, I assumed it was a man placed near the front door. I was in a party of 4 adults/couples. We ordered drinks and the meze arrived ! it was a bowl of green dip and tiny triangles of cold hard pitta bread. Nobody said a word as this was a fun night. We ordered main course, I ordered the prawns !! in a sauce which read very appetising. Everybody was served and as an adult I said please start. People did slightly. Then came over again the terrible stench, I looked at the other female and we both mouthed " wind"....the males said no, its the drains. It was awful. I would say I waited a further 15 minutes for the prawn dish, the sauce was a dead ringer for a jar of Lloyd Grossman...by then we all started to speak about the food etc. The other lady got up to go to the toilet, was in there an age. I jumped up and went to the toilet as walking home. I can only say the contents of my stomach left my body, although not quite as as soon as I went to wash my hands, where I had flushed the toilet bowl was rising. I can laugh about it now. Then I had to sit again and my god I was in a state. Flushed again, and again it rose up. I did not say a word to friends until Christmas eve. As my husband and I started our walk I confided my story with " I need to go again" he said you cannot. I said I need to and I scoured alleys , bushes,,,,it was torture, He said, I will rush on, give me your bag, and off he shot. He flung he front door open and I made it. Hopefully the drains are fixed and the prawns are defrosted properly now. It seems so with all the great reviews. I do remember all the staff were attentive, and asked a few times how my meal was. And being typically British I said " fine". The truth as eating the food we all found it underwhelming.

Two out of the three meals we ordered were incorrect. My husband has dairy allergy so instead of mash asked for chips, but still got mash, I asked for chicken with salad but got lamb with rice!!!
