arrived for a pre-booked table on Monday, only to discover the doors locked, tables removed and 2 people in the back emptying the kitchens, called the same number I booked on to see if they were perhaps renovating and we should have been upstairs and found the phone wasn't connected. rather disappointing as the place had been recommended so we had booked as part of our trip to the area.

Place is closed. Google still says it's open, didn't even bother to update their page.

Absolutely amazing place. Great food, beautiful decor and very good service by all the staff. We went there for my brother's birthday and we were not disappointed! My only suggestion is that you go there hungry as the portions are generous and it is so tasty that'll want to try it all. Also if you like slightly sweeter wines then you won't be disappointed with their Greek sparking wine. Enjoy!

We have been in the place with my family this eve. Despite the incredible lack of employees in the industry, the exorbitant cost of purchasing, and the distance from wholesale, this local restaurant does its job very well and extreamly properly. Concept, quality of food and service was perfect. Thank you very much Syrtaki!

Really wanted to like this place as I love Greek food. However, the vegetarian moussaka was a huge disappointment filled with frozen mixed veg from Iceland and nothing at all resembling food I've had many times in Greece. I felt sorry for the waitress who kept having to deliver bad news-the wine we ordered wasn't in stock, there was no octopus, souvla or even veg! Maybe because they'd chopped it all into small cubes for the moussaka, I don't know. Sweet waiting staff but the restaurant generally lacked atmosphere downstairs. Upstairs however, there seemed to be a full on rave. It seemed very expensive for mediocre food. Won't be returning.

We ordered every starter I think and a number of iced coffees. Flavours were perfectly balanced and the dishes were sooo tasty. Atmosphere was lovely and relaxed on a hot day. We had an impromptu family get together and sat out the front along with my dog tucked to the side. The waiter was attentive, accommodating and easy to speak to. Would recommend 👍

Many of our first choices were unavailable, including Retsina wine, octopus, souvla and anything that came with seasonal vegetables. So we were mainly eating second choices. The veggie moussaka was made up with a bag of diced mixed veg (peas, carrots and corn) and contained no aubergine - it was easily the worst we've ever experienced and nothing like we've eaten in many parts of Greece. And the calamari portion was very small. The lighting was very bright and there was a party upstairs in the restaurant's first floor room that was so loud it totally dominated the atmosphere on the ground floor. Overall, pretty poor. That said, the chargrilled sea bream was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked and the waiting staff were very friendly and attentive.

I've been wanting to visit Syrtaki for ages and finally made it down this week. Have to say I was really disappointed. My husband and I are both vegetarian but we were told upon arrival that one of the two veggie mains (which we both had our hearts set on) was unavailable. We asked if they could put together a veggie meze plate for us instead but the waitress said no so we ended up spending a small fortune on a mix of hot and cold starters - which is essentially a meze. Granted, they were all really nice but based on our experience, we won't be going back. Surely we can't be the only vegetarians to visit or to ask for a meat-free meze?!

It was good. We got a lovely bottle of excellent Greek red (Naoussa). The grilled meat was on point. Decent Greek salad.

Our second visit, staff couldn’t be nicer and the food couldn’t be better, already booked our third trip! The place has a lovely feel and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable!

Authentic, family run restaurant. Superb menu and the homemade food was delicious. Excellent customer service and felt just like being back in the Peloponnese. We shall return. Many thanks and keep up the fine work. ευχαριστώ

We had a lovely time at this Greek restaurant. They had a nice selection of dishes...all servers promptly and all tasted amazing.

Me and my partner went here and unfortunately the Service was extremely slow when the restaurant weren’t Evan half full the staff was more interested in talking to each other rather than giving a good service food was bland didn’t feel like much effort went into cooking it overall poor experience we won’t be visiting again!

Just had a wonderful lunch at this lovely restaurant. The atmosphere was nice, Greek music, images of Greece. The waitress was kind and helpful. We ordered many things from the menu and I loved the bugiourti, kaserocrocketes, the most tasty fries and chicken souvlaki. The prices are reasonable and the portions full. I am coming back, any time I am in Southend on sea I will be having my food here after beach :) summer it's coming this will be my place!

What a wonderful Mother’s Day meal, went with the family to our favourite authentic Greek restaurant, they had a set menu with all my favourite dishes. The waiter Thomas was as always fantastic, a young boy with so much spirit and enthusiasm 😁. Thank you again syrtaki

Great food great staff great atmosphere

Excellent place for couples as well as for families. Food is delicious,some would say pricey but you pay for what you get and it's fantastic!

We've just had such a lovely, lovely evening at Syrtaki! The food was exceptional. Ohhhhh the King Prawn Saganaki was ridiculously goooood! And the cold dips! We tried the aubergine one, the Tarama and some kind of beautiful whipped feta. Beautiful! Even the pitta bread was amazing. Thank you to the lovely lady serving us! The whole experience was just super homely, friendly and fun. I honestly think it's the best experience I've had in a restaurant in Southend. Thank you!!! We will be back soon!

We had a wonderful time having diner in the resto last Dec 24. The food was wonderful, reasonable price. The fried calamari was excellent. We also had the mixed grilled platter which was phenomenal. Our family couldnt finish all the food. We will surely come back from time to time. thomas had served us and the attention was brilliant. lovely music was played. They served us baklava after dinner on the house. I highly recommend the restaurant.

This is an amazing, hidden restaurant in Westcliff! I recently visited with some friends and decided to come back with family for my partners birthday and once again, we weren’t disappointed! Such lovely and friendly service, Haroulla was our waitress and she was very welcoming and polite. I would defo recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion. We all had a meat meze this time and it was amazing to try everything. Once again i’m left impressed, keep it up Syrtaki!!! 😆

We had a reservation for 7.30pm on a Saturday which was booked weeks before as it was a birthday celebration. We have eaten at this restaurant a couple times before and really enjoyed the food but the couple we were with had not so we had recommended it. The main course that is served only at weekends was already sold out which was disappointing but ok that’s one of those things but everything went downhill from there. We did ask to have a drink prior to ordering which is pretty normal but we didn’t get any food until c9pm a good hour after ordering! There was one waiter doing his best but clearly a party going on upstairs which was taking priority over us. We were also led to believe that this group were not expected! Given the fact that we had booked weeks in advance, there was no excuse for such poor service which completely ruined our evening. I wrote to the restaurant to give them the opportunity to respond but they failed to even acknowledge my e-mail - I guess that says a lot! Needless to say, we will never recommend or return to this restaurant.

Went for dinner last night, 16 December. Expected it to be festive and buzzing on a Friday night before Christmas. Sadly, the complete opposite was the case. It was empty, just a few tables with couples throughout the 2 hours we were there. It was cold and overly bright, it was like eating in a canteen. Or a service station, as commented by my dining companion. They don't serve cocktails, no decent wine, mostly all served by the bottle and the only white wine available by the glass was sharp and not very pleasant. However, the food was OK, albeit mine was not very hot. The young girls serving were pleasant enough. We ate and couldn't wait to get out of there. I had previously been here before on a Saturday night in March 2022. A completely different experience then, live music, busy, dancing. I don't know if it has recently changed hands but it certainly needs to make some changes to make it warm and welcoming. Will not be returning.

We celebrated a family birthday dinner at the weekend. What a lovely friendly restaurant. All of the food tasted absolutely delicious - home made to order. Felt like we were back on holiday in beautiful Greece. Yum yum! Looking forward to next time. Highly recommend

Superb customer service. It’s a restaurant we visit infrequently through the year but it’s always superb. Beautifully prepared fresh fish and everything homemade. Always impressed.

Our visit was incredible because of the company we were in. Waiter was nice but VERY slow service due to a party they had upstairs. Sat down at 9 but didn't leave until past 11. Ordered the Meze and was disappointed with the lack of quality in some dishes and the quantity of the entire meal. Being Greek, I know what is expected from a GOOD mezethes but this was a let down. Price was reasonable but had better elsewhere.

Went with 3 friends …..Never again…. Awful …..don’t bother….service was so poor everyone was complaining. Had to keep asking for drinks, gave up in the end. Waiter had no interest in serving us. Didn’t get ask if everything was ok. Menu wasn’t explained. Just terrible all round.

I have previously left a positive review of this restaurant. But, my last visit wasn't so enjoyable. The dolmades are listed under the heading of 'cold starters'. They arrived warmer than the pittas. When I asked the waitress why these are listed as a cold starter, she simply said, "why would I serve cold rice". My Kleftico was hard in places and impossible to chew. I mentioned this to the waitress who said, "oh, we never get complaints about our Kleftico, I'll let the chef know". At no point was I offered an apology. The bill arrived and we had been charged for items we had not ordered. The bill was changed to the correct amount. But, again, no apology. I would add that my wife's Moussaka was lovely. But, I can't see us going back there as it put a bit of a dampener on our wedding anniversary evening.

Fantastic restaurant, The restaurant was able to fit us in (8 People) at short notice and allowed is the bring along a balloon 🎈 and our own birthday cake earlier in the day. The Waitress (aRuler) was the best, a very nice and caring young lady, she couldn't do enough for our group. The other Waitresses were also great and very polite and helpful. This is truly amazing restaurant, and the food was absolutely 💯 👌 superb. Came with my partner on a Saturday. Lovely atmosphere, especially with the live music, and friendly staff. I had the sea bass with salad, tasted fresh and was very juicy. Will definitely visit again :)

Wow! As per usual, I am so impressed with this place! I have been coming here for years now and it never disappoints. I had the kleftiko as always and it was cooked to perfection! It was so tender and juicy with really earthy flavours. My friend tried the mixed souvla and she said it tasted so tender, fell straight off the bone and had amazing flavours. The staff were so efficient and friendly, they always have a smile on their faces and are always willing to help anytime anyday. It’s a shame another couple in the restaurant were being so rude and disrespectful to all the staff in the restaurant including the chef as I’ve known the staff for years and this is the reason I’ve decided to write a review after all these years because the restaurant is a hidden gem!!!!! Keep it up, Syrtaki!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁

My partner & myself walked in asked if there were any tables for 2 We were seated straight away 😁 Staff were all friendly polite & welcoming 😁🙌🏻👏 Food was absolutely delicious 😋 Had a little wait between starters & main but not a criticism as the food is worth the wait 😁 We also had a little taster dessert on the house (hope ya have a sweet tooth) 🦷 Never been here before but would highly recommend 👍 a first time visit but will definitely be back as we have a menu to eat our way through 😂 Also might be a good idea to book beforehand as it got quite busy

Lovely evening out, with food that is full with the colours and flavours of Greece. Portions were just right and really well presented. The staff were welcoming and attentive. Really lovely green restaurant in Westcliff. Food was delicious. I had the octopus starter and then moussaka and was not disappointed. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Providing recommendations too. I went for a work dinner, and the restaurant was welcoming and accommodating. The only thing was the wait for food, I think because we were a big group. The waiting staff, although lovely are maybe slightly inexperienced. With many plates/glasses being dropped through the evening. All in all, an enjoyable evening and I would definitely go back.

We chose to take 1 of the outside tables.it Was lovely out there in the sun!! After going through through me menu we thought we'd just go straight to the mains.but on advise from the staff we decided to have a cold meze 1st. All dips where fantastic...I don't like aubergine but thoroughly enjoyed the aubergine dip..as well as all the others. The main was really nice.everything was fresh and felt light on the stomach. The young waitress that served us halfway through was excellent! A real asset to the business. Thank u to all at syrtaki for a top notch lunch and all round experience. Unfortunately I would not recommend this place as good Greek restaurant - couple of reasons: - we have been waiting 40 min for the main dish - we didn't order any starters, only drinks, but restaurant was not busy, only two tables were also occupied. - "lemonada" drink wasn't proper lemonade but Sprite from bottle - we ordered 2 dishes - Grilled Octopus with fresh vegetables and Sea Bream with the same vegetables. Vegetables weren't fresh, but frozen (unfrozen in microwave). Octopus was almost unedited as it was marinated in vinegar so much and so long, too sour. Fish was good. We also ordered Greek Village Salad - only 2 good ingredients were olives and feta cheese. Whole restaurant was filled by grill smoke and as a consequence of this, in the middle of our dinner, fire alarm went off - no proper ventilation in this restaurant. A big disappointment as we expected a much more.

Really disappointed with lunch here today first of all the website said open at 3 but it wasn’t. There was hardly anything on the menu available. The moussaka wasn’t good or an original recipe it had mince with loads of random vegetables in it like peas not remotely authentic. I ordered a take away that they didn’t give me I got home and it was missing. Disappointed as we liked this place before. Food was also served cold and pitta bread was stale. Since when were frozen peas and corn an authentic ingredient in Greek moussaka?

Always a great meal at Syrtaki. Ultimate compliment is that we keep going back. Been on quiet nights and busy nights, but food is always excellent and the staff friendly and helpful.

Great food friendly staff and good service

Well unfortunately one of the most painful meals in my life. Two hours into the meal and we still didn’t have any main courses. Cold room with bright light and very loud life music that you can’t hold conversation. Not sure that it’s a good experience. I would never recommend this place.

Went for a friend's birthday. Had whole of upstairs to ourselves. The man playing the guitar to greeek music was fab! Had lots of fun, the food was nice just very simple plain salmon and potatoes. The staff are all lovely but I'd defo come back.

You do not get a better meal, the service was sport on and take a look at these photos the Mrs took. Have tried a fair few Greeks up and down the Uk and this is by far top tier ! Once again a pleasure to eat there, thank you so much to Stavros for the great service.

Been here many times since my last review in 2019, felt it was time to say, after our first visit, Syrtaki has remained my very favourite restaurant! Spur of the moment visit tonight, but usual pleasant ambiance...attentive staff, taking time to explain dishes...wine very good....

One of the worst experience ever. Our starters arrived and I realized our bread was sitting on the counter and they didn't give us a spoon for one of the starters. We called one of the waitress over and she saw the bread and quickly went to get it and we had to ask for a spoon. We waited more than 40mins for our main course which I had to call the waitress over to see why it was taking so long, she looked shocked that we hadn't had it and quickly went to the open kitchen and spoke to one of the chef's. Once it was ready she brought our main over and didn't even apologize as we sat there looking at eachother for another 5-10mins the waitress looked over and realized we had no cutleries and again quickly got the other waitress to bring some over which she sort of heavily put it on the table without a apology, so very rude. One of the main was very disappointing and we spoke to the waitress and it was very difficult as she thought there was nothing wrong with it but hold on a minute your not the one eating this or who ordered it so you can't really be telling us! We refused to pay for it but they said we can have 20% off it but we said no we're not paying for something which wasn't eaten and looked awful, at the end she took it off the bill, but they had over charged us on the drinks, it was a total nightmare ! The rudeness was unbelievable, I eat out a lot and don't expect this sort of service. The waitress apologized at the end but it didn't make things any better, they were very lucky we didn't walk out without paying! We won't be returning. Unfortunately I have to give them a star otherwise I can't post this, so here's your one star!

We have eaten here a few times and always been good, however we had a table of 13 on Saturday evening for a family birthday and were seated upstairs, we had to wait 45min for dips and bread starter which was only enough for 5 people we asked 5 times for more which eventually took another 20 minutes, 2 hours in we still didn't have our main courses, when they eventually arrived they we all over cooked and dry. Awful service and experience for a birthday treat. It will be a very long time before we all return
