Do not go unless you have a long time to waste. My husband and I visited Asteria bar for the first time as it is a relatively new business and we wanted to try it out. It appears that the two waitresses have not been properly trained in customer relations. The waitress who asked us what we wanted, needed to be promoted to ask what we wanted to drink first. After placing our order we waited quite a considerable time for it to arrive. As we had only ordered mains we were asked if we wanted bread which we declined. However we gave up as we were given it anyway! Our meal arrived. My husband had asked for the side salad to be just tomato and onions but this had been ignored and on his plate was a mixed salad. On commenting about this the waitress told him he could pick out the bits he didn't like. Eventually he did get the salad he had requested. My lamb moussaka was burnt and hard so I took it up to the waitress and asked for a new one. Half an hour later I was still waiting!! When I went up to the bar to find one of the waitresses I found them both on the floor of the bar on their mobiles! I asked for the bill as I was fed up with waiting and we were late for another engagement. We were astonished to be asked to pay a service charge especially as we hadn't had any. On asking to see the manager we were told he was unavailable because he was the chef and he was too busy. We left just paying for our drinks and leaving our address. I was very disappointed and dissatisfied with the standard of customer service at this restaurant, especially as it is a relatively new business where this is essential to keep people coming back. My husband and I certainly won't be.

Always a pleasure visiting, lovely food as usual topped off with traditional music in the back ground. Would really be nice if a few table and chairs were put outside too when the weathers good.

AVOID! OVER CHARGING & RUDE CHEF/MANAGER/OWNER!!! Ordered a take away which I collected Excited as reviews were excellent, on arrival restaurant was stunning & was really hoping food was going to live up to the reviews so I could dine in at some point;I was very surprised the restaurant only had 1 table of 2 in on a Friday at 7.30pm to be honest A little wait for the food even though telephoned through, but no issue Paid & was shocked at the price £67 something for a chicken shish with yogurt, a lamb shish & sac kavurma plus 2 chips! I Didn’t query it as I didn’t place order & wasn’t 100% on pricing Later on in the evening my friends & I discussed how expensive it was considering portions wasn’t huge, the lamb shish had half dozen small pieces of tough lamb & chicken shish with yogurt had the rice missing. We checked the pricing online & transpired we had been overcharged by £19.55, so I called the restaurant to be greeted by a gentleman who is the chef saying IT haven’t updated the web & basically wasn’t his problem! After advising I’ll contact trading standards, he told me to come in the following day, which I did I waited 20-30 minutes to be seen by said gentleman, again not an issue he was cooking for his 1 table in the restaurant Said gentleman came out huffing & puffing about refund, said something about £35phr & was going down the road! Which I politely said not my business. Another 10 min passed & finally cash was given, which was a couple pounds short of the £19.55 which I pointed out & said but don’t worry I can’t be bothered anymore! His response was totally & utterly disgusting & unprofessional advising I could do what I wanted & told me repeatedly to go ushering his hands for me to go! He then said in front of his table of service go just go & continued to repeat with his ushering hands, & when I pointed out that he overcharged me £20 which is a lot of money he continued to usher me out as he was & ended up saying go & don’t come back! Which I laughed at & said I most definitely won’t be!! If you order from this place ensure you check pricing before you pay & be fleeced! Online chicken shish with yogurt is £12.50 was charged £22.50!! Sac kavurma online £12.95, was charged £20.50!! Lamb shish online £14.50, charged £16.50. Online Clearly robbing customers & probably why this beautiful restaurant had just 1 table of 2 on a Friday evening! Such a big shame!

Thought we’d try this out on a whim as we live locally. Great decor, stylish comfortable seats and good friendly service. Food was good! Will return!

An amazing restaurant with great Quality food and drinks. I particularly enjoyed the live music they have on the weekends. Honestly, a hidden gem. Will be definitely coming back.

We travelled from London to Southend and stopped here on our way home. What a gorgeous hidden gem, gorgeous restaurant, lovely staff and beautiful food! Wish we lived closer. 5star! Will definitely come again xx

Last minute decision to eat out and was not disappointed. The food was of a high quality, very tasty and a good portion size. The owner came over to see whether we had enjoyed our meal as he is also the chef. Will definitely be back and I think this may be my new local.

Ate in, lamb shish main: lamb was boring lacking flavour; salad was mean and plain; rice was horrible and none of it was worth £21. Service was backwards with sauces and bread turning up a few minutes after the meal was served. Both were also dull. This place used to be good and the decor is nice but otherwise its just another pretentious kebab joint.

New Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant to the area, came with some friends to try for a birthday and was impressed, great service and good food fairly priced too They also went out during the meal to get more Turkish tea as they’d run out No complains and will return

Update 28Dec2021-15Jan2022. No answer on phones for 2 weeks now and place appears shut. Can the owner confirm if they are still trading or if they are temporarily closed? See photo they are temporarily closed for refurbishment (Sat 15/1/2022 @ 17.30) Update: July 2018. Still up to scratch and has been our go-to kebab/grill provider ever since. We've had food from Shish three times in as many weeks. It's been exceptional. Staff very friendly and place clean and organised. We traditionally used (for 8 years) the Broadway Grill in Leigh on sea, however due to recent experiences of the chicken being dry and overcooked, ventured a bit further afield. We will continue to use Shish for our kebab requirements going forward. Keep up the good work guys!

Really loved coming here. We visited around 10pm after getting turned away from 2 other places and the staff were so nice and welcoming. They were fantastic about customising a vegetarian meal for me and the service was excellent! Thank you!

Awful....fatty chewy meats, cold food, tough bread, bland rice. Haloumi undercooked chewy horrible. Salad that was about the worst you could get, worse hummus than you get in costcutter.

Truly awful. Tasteless and very tough lamb, bland rice, pathetic salad and dry bread. No effort at all made to please. The Chili sauce was lacking chili. They are trying to copy Showarma as served in Holland, but failing miserably. If they did authentic Showarma I would order every time. Until then I will go to Kebab Express or a Greek Restaurant for Souvlaki. Awful food! I mean really awful....I threw it in the bin.

Really lovely food & great service! Hadn’t been here before, but we will definitely be back. I really recommend the mixed grill - really tender meat - especially the lamb Shish & nice fresh, crunchy salad. They were happy to accommodate & give me extra salad, as I didn’t want rice, so was a healthy & tasty, keto-friendly meal. Plenty of food, so we took the leftovers home in doggy bags!

For my 1st time eating here, I was completely impressed by the quality of service & food. Excellent manners from all members of staff in the restaurant, food quality is also great & fresh. Loved it!

I've returned several times and nothing bad to say. Probably need to sample a few more of the items on the menu as selection seems pretty good, but the chicken shawarma has got me a bit one-dimensional. I also haven't sat down to eat inside the restaurant, but it all looks very clean and there's plenty of seating available. Reliably good all round and recommended.

We had our football club Xmas meal at this restaurant. The service was very good...the timings were fine and the food was excellent. Not over expensive and a nice relaxed atmosphere. The belly dancers were great entertainment too!

I have just ordered a mixed shish from this location whereby on arrival I figured for £12.50 that I had paid I would have a decent Amount of food however on opening the pot I have discovered two small cubes of lamb and 4 small cubes of chicken with approximately a quarter pot of rice, there is barely anything here, I have called to enquire as to if there has been a mistake whereby the restaurant are not picking up the phone, this Is a ridiculous portion size and I would avoid as they are clearly over charging for what you actually get

Booked this restaurant for my sons 16th Birthday. It could not have gone better, they organised the Belly dancers, two beautiful girls to present his Birthday cake and the entire restaurant sung a Turkish version of happy birthday then we all got up to dance, an amazing atmosphere made the night very special. Must not forget the food which was sublime, i had the Lamb shish, never eaten lamb that was lovely and crisp on the outside yet still succulent and juicy inside, they marinaded it for 24 hours. beautiful, other has the seafood which was just as good, can't wait to go back.

The food at Shish is some of the best in the area. I get take aways from here mostly, but when I have eaten at the restaurant the service has always been very good. Highly recommended.

I was recommended by a good friend to try this resturant as he said it was very good. i decided to try it for a takeaway for myself & my wife.i wanted a small doner and chicken shish for my wife,with the chicken shish my wife didnt want any rice or cuscus as she dislikes both so i asked if she couid have a portion of chips instead, they said no!so our order had neither rice or coscus. the,donar was ok,but the chicken shish had only 5 small bits of chicken & that was dry! also the pitta came sliced so was unable to have it as a kebab. I think that £7.50 is very exspensive for 5 small bits of chicken!

i went here with my friends very warm welcoming by the waiter .nothing is to much trouble for them but the test of the food out of this world lovely flavour and plenty of it.. complimentary liquors at the end. love this place
