Went there for lunch with my sister. Probably picked the wrong time as it was very busy so understandably was a wait. Staff were very apologetic and nice. Food when it came was very enjoyable. Very great flavours and presentation.

Popped in on a sunny Sunday afternoon after church parade with Scouts. Really just wanted somewhere that wasn't going to provide a soggy sandwich or fried food. I picked Black & Red purely based on location, but we're already planning repeat visits, including with family. Let's start with the price. £12 for two courses for a lunch menu is amazing. What you get for that is a selection of freshly made dips, meats or cheeses. I opted for the spinach tarator and it was perfect for a warm summer day. The fresh Turkish bread that came up was delicious. For my main, I had the chicken shish, which came up with rice and the most impressive salad I've ever seen. As we finished up, the server brought over some pieces of warm and sticky baklava that really finished of the meal perfectly. In a high street full of the same carbon-copy coffee shops and fast food chains, this is a real delight that I hope locals and visitors alike will make the most of.

It was a Thursday night and it's new, so we were the only customers. A well-decorated restaurant with friendly service. Best of all the food was excellent quality. Would highly recommend.

Had brunch here today. Asked for my coffee extra hot as they are never warm enough for my liking, served piping hot 😀. Food was lovely, service really good. Good size portions and excellent value for money.

Lumps of rock hard rice! Meat wasnt to great either, There are lots better Turkish places close by. Service was good though just food was poor

Surprisingly bigger inside than it looks from outside, very clean & pleasant inside with polite friendly staff. The food was very tasty, although it could have been hotter, and good value for money.

Went to Townhouse for breakfast having been there four times previously and had good service and food. Went today with friends and the staff were different. The breakfast was served on cold plates and bacon and sausage were cold. Both cooked breakfasts were the same. Returned the meals and pointed it out and had just coffee. It was a shame as it’s always been good in the past. Will think twice about returning. Service was also slow with only two other people in there at the time.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast here. The choice on the menu covered every option. We went for the full English and a Mediterranean breakfast. All fresh, well cooked and throughly enjoyed. Would definitely recommend.

I'm not always the easiest to please, but I can say this was a great surprise. I will come back.

Came here with my husband and son this afternoon for some brunch and we throughly enjoyed our meals. Reasonably priced , great selection , beautifully presented and friendly staff. Will definitely be back :-) Ps my son left a toy giraffe under the table. If you find it please put aside :-)

Food was gorgeous & plentiful. Nice friendly attentive staff. Bill was about right. Left absolutely stuffed. Only downside was a tad chilly, but was cold outside. Would definitely recommend this place

Nice to have a descent cafe in the high street worth a visit

TERRIBLE service. Last Saturday, 2pm we went in for lunch. No waitress around for 5 mins so we sat down, no menus, got them ourselves. Asked for coffee to start, 15 mins later nothing. Only 3 other tables occupied so hardly too busy. Waitress said she forgot so we ordered again, this time with food. 25 mins later nothing and another table got their food before ours even though we ordered first. We paid for our coffees and left. Place was almost empty so can only be down to not caring about customers and not prioritising orders properly. Will never go back. Worst service in Southend Hight Street.

First time I went in I was met with abundance of happiness from the staff, amazing waitresses. The food was top notch and was cooked with perfection 🥰. Atmosphere is melow homely tbh you feel like staying all day. Decor is fabulous 👌 Thank you guys Ash 😊

We walked in - the place was almost empty. Nobody came over, so we just sat down. Still, nobody came over - so we grabbed our own menus. 5 minutes later, another family came in - were immediately given menus - she then came over to them again after a fe minutes and took their order. We were still waiting - confused... We walked out - genuinely insulting, terrible service.

Stayed overnight at the travelodge, which has no restaurant facilities, went for walk to find somewhere for breakfast, came across the townhouse cafe by chance. The place was spotless and the menu was vast, we then had the best breakfast we've had. Very reasonable and the waitress couldn't have been more helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Just had breakfast here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised! The quality of the food and presentation was really good (salmon Benedict) and the waitress was very friendly and polite. The decor is a bit weird for a new restaurant being honest…but who cares when the food is so good. Will come back to try lunch. You can also sit on a few tables outside if warm enough. UPDATE: Came for a 2nd time for breakfast (24th Sep) and was just as good as the first. Added a photo to show the food and presentation. They were also playing some chilled jazz music in the background this time which I appreciated on a Sunday morning.

We popped in for breakfast as we were in town early - it opens at 8.00a.m. - and had a superb breakfast. The food was fresh, well-presented, tasty and reasonably-priced. A smoothie was excellent and a generous serving. Choices were wide-ranging and included multiple vegetarian and vegan options. Service was professional and charming. We’ll be back.

My husband and I went for breakfast and we were both happy with the food we had ordered. The menu offered variety of dishes and sandwiches for breakfast and many more options of starter, main and side dishes for lunch. Southend High Street definitely needed a place like that to accommodate diners of all tastes. The cafe offers three options for pancake lovers. The pancake dish is something to go for; however next time I would go for the less sweet option. The banana pancake and notella was a bit much for me to digest. My husband ordered the vegetarian breakfast and was quite satisfied with the portion and ingredients. Totally recommend the place.

Lovely food, highly recommended! Don't be fooled by the slightly dark looking exterior.. Once inside it is nice. The owners should try and do something to brighten up the front window/entrance to make it more inviting as you walk past as it currently doesn't do it justice!

Lovely little place on the high street with chairs outside and big open windows. Friendly calm attentive staff. Good value and generous portion sizes. £9 for a fat halloumi wrap and chips (Turkish style) £13 for a big thick slab of moussaka shiryliev rice and salad, lots of flat bread slices, garlic yoghurt and ezme tomato dip to start. Breakfast and lunch menu available all day. Nice selection of desserts and drinks. Will definitely be back and highly recommend!!!

This place...! Absolutely LOVED it and highly recommend it too. The staff are fabulous and really friendly which makes an immediate impression. The food! DIVINE. I had the veggie moussaka and wasn't disappointed. So, so good! In addition there were some classic 80s tunes in the background which put me in a great place mentally for my solo lunch. Really enjoyed it here and will deffo come back if I'm in the area. I'm told this venture only opened 4 weeks ago so if you're local, get yourself down here. It's awesome!

After leaving two other reateraunts due to their very limited menus in town we walked past this place and were very happy we decided to eat here, the prices were very reasonable for su h delicious food and the staff were perfect!

I just want to thank the lovely man who assisted my daughter who had bumped her head outside the shop on a post whilst walking- gave us some ice a drink of water and even gave her and her sister an ice drink! Thank you you much you were amazing!
