Townhouse Cafe Bistro in Southend-on-Sea

My 1st time visiting Black and Red turkish restraunt, as I entered the warning tapes in floor were very worn so I did not see then and went flying, hit my head and my wrist was hurt quite badly. When I enquired should this be recorded in accident book i was told no because it was my fault that I did not see tape. When food arrived I was not impressed rice looked like bachelors rice heated, not up to turkish standard, I asked could I not have wrap just chicken, when that arrived it was laying in a bed smothered with mayo. I would not recomend this place as No. 1 did not deal with my accident professionally No.2 food was definitely not up to usual turkish standard.

This evening it was really friendly and delicious food and absolutely fine atmosphere and decent foods highly recommended

I visited twice once this week once last week food was nice but service not we had to wait 30 minutes for desert asking 3 different waiters what is going on are we going to get it then we had it i wont be going there again

First time diners, great selection of Turkish and some English dishes. Memamen & Turkish breakfast was ordered, large portions of really tasty and well presented food. It was quiet when we went but others drifted in as we were leaving and it had a great vibe. £30 including drinks and a tip for 2 people, so we'll be back!

The food was so tasty and full of flavours. My whole family enjoyed it. The service and delivery was super great. The best turkish in southend so far and believe me I have tried all the turkish restaurant in southend. Will definitely order again

I took my fiance here for an early birthday meal. The front door could do with adjusting as it didn't close properly causing a draft which made it chilly, however they accommodated with electric heaters which soon warmed the restaurant, easy fix so don't let that put you off. The food was probably the best I've had at a Turkish restaurant, we had a starter each which was very tasty a bottle of wine and the mixed shish each. All of which was brilliant 👏🏻 and very reasonably priced. Hussain our waitor was such a nice person and his hospitality was very welcoming making sure we had everything we wanted and made us feel very welcome as did the other staff. The atmosphere was very fun and entertaining as there was live music there by Joe Gibson who is an amazing singer who we are lucky enough to have singing at our wedding later this year. Overall 10/10 and will definitely be returning to this restaurant when we are in the area again. Thanks for a great evening

Very luxurious inside and outstanding customer service. Was very please by the amount of choice and don’t get me started on the taste of the food from the bread to the lamb it was finger licking. I would recommend if you are visiting Southend

First time here. Restaurant looked great on website & didn’t disappoint! Food fantastic. Service very welcoming especially by our server HY. Gave atmosphere 4 stars only because it was not busy as strange time just after NYE when nowhere tends to be busy. Definitely be back.

Food was all cold and missing all of our deserts, when the deserts were re-delivered we were still missing one. Not a good experience unfortunately on New Year’s Eve!

Food freezing cold on arrival :(

I had a work meeting with some guests from Oxford International Education Group. We enjoyed a lovely lunch. The food was 10/10 and service was amazing. I paid a deposit and sent them our order prior to arriving, starters were out within 10 mins and mains shortly after! Also had the best mocha i have tasted! Amazing!

What a jewel on the high street have walked past many times. Couldn't get in first choice so decided to give it a try. Have to say probably the best food and experience in a long time will definitely be going back. Well worth 5 stars

I went to this restaurant yesterday with my family, although it was busy the service was exceptional the food was amazing cooked and the cocktails were even better, Charlotte come over to check everything was okay multiple times which made us feel well looked after, will definitely be telling all of our friends and returning soon.

Friday lunch celebrating a friends birthday Hadi, Charlotte & Roxy were incredibly attentive saw that she had been bought flowers so asked if she would like them put in vases of water.The food was plentiful presented beautifully full of flavour.There was a lunch time set menu or the main menu.A few of us were disabled with walkers it is a level access restaurant with a disabled toilet close to car park.If I could give more than 5 stars I would .

Have now been in 3 occasions for lunch and honestly cannot fault the food is great staff lovely restaurant very comfortable and clean would highly recommend 5 star 🌟

Delighted to have found this wonderfully decorated restaurant on our not so glamorous Southend highstreet. The restaurant goes back a long way, so, looking at the outside seating area it looks like another coffee shop. But, it's far from that!. The Turkish menu offers lots of choice, including affordable dishes and wine's. For a bottle of house white, this cost £16. The food portions are generous and tasty, and came with freebies such as flat bread and dips, and side salads. The staff are attentive and informative. I thoroughly recommend. Well done Black and Red. We need more businesses like yours on our high street.

Very nice restaurant. Food was great only slight downside was the halloumi tasting a bit rubbery. Lovely environment and service was amazing. Ordered mixed grill and got told that the chef dropped the chicken (not an issue) and will be sent out later so food won’t get cold. Was sent a baklava for desert due to this which was very nice from them. Highly recommend

What can I say? £12 for a two course meal? Undefeatable. Best lentil soup I've had in a while. The main meal tasted great too. Definitely going back.

By happy coincidence my wife and I had just booked our first holiday to Turkey at Hays travel in Southend high street and we passed Black and Red bistro. We decided to give it a try and we're so glad we did. Easily the best Turkish restaurant I've been to. Fresh vibrant flavours and the hot dishes were properly hot and fresh, my pet irritation in restaurants, warm food. Thoroughly recommended

Boyfriend took me on a date here yesterday as a surprise, he ordered carbonara and i ordered bolognese, the portions were huge i couldn’t finish it was amazing, one of the best pasta i’ve ever tasted, seats were comfy, restaurant was lovely. I ordered a strawberry milkshake and it was beautiful, you can tell they really care about their customers!

Ordered a chicken and a mixed shish. Was given lovely bread to start. The mains was fantastic. Then given a lovely syrupy dessert as well. Wil be going back. They deserve more customers.

Lovely place with beautiful interior. The service was lovely, staff are classy and clean. The food was not good, chicken shish with not enough chicken and the chicken was definitely not fresh, had a weird taste. Salad was very plain also, I think this place has a lot of potential to be great but the food needs to be better, I would love to give it a second chance but with better food. Keep up the excellent service, hopefully when I come back I can not only enjoy the interior but also the meal.

Omg the food was 10/10. Our server was so lovely and polite. The dish it's self was huge. We had the mixed gril. People of Southend you need to visit this place ASAP and don't let it disappear. Couldn't fault the food in any way. It's not the cheapest place in town but it was worth the money.

Went there for lunch with my sister. Probably picked the wrong time as it was very busy so understandably was a wait. Staff were very apologetic and nice. Food when it came was very enjoyable. Very great flavours and presentation.

Popped in on a sunny Sunday afternoon after church parade with Scouts. Really just wanted somewhere that wasn't going to provide a soggy sandwich or fried food. I picked Black & Red purely based on location, but we're already planning repeat visits, including with family. Let's start with the price. £12 for two courses for a lunch menu is amazing. What you get for that is a selection of freshly made dips, meats or cheeses. I opted for the spinach tarator and it was perfect for a warm summer day. The fresh Turkish bread that came up was delicious. For my main, I had the chicken shish, which came up with rice and the most impressive salad I've ever seen. As we finished up, the server brought over some pieces of warm and sticky baklava that really finished of the meal perfectly. In a high street full of the same carbon-copy coffee shops and fast food chains, this is a real delight that I hope locals and visitors alike will make the most of.

It was a Thursday night and it's new, so we were the only customers. A well-decorated restaurant with friendly service. Best of all the food was excellent quality. Would highly recommend.

Had brunch here today. Asked for my coffee extra hot as they are never warm enough for my liking, served piping hot 😀. Food was lovely, service really good. Good size portions and excellent value for money.

Surprisingly bigger inside than it looks from outside, very clean & pleasant inside with polite friendly staff. The food was very tasty, although it could have been hotter, and good value for money.

Went to Townhouse for breakfast having been there four times previously and had good service and food. Went today with friends and the staff were different. The breakfast was served on cold plates and bacon and sausage were cold. Both cooked breakfasts were the same. Returned the meals and pointed it out and had just coffee. It was a shame as it’s always been good in the past. Will think twice about returning. Service was also slow with only two other people in there at the time.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast here. The choice on the menu covered every option. We went for the full English and a Mediterranean breakfast. All fresh, well cooked and throughly enjoyed. Would definitely recommend.
