Ross's Coffee Shop & Takeaway in Aberdeenshire

When it takes less time for your food to arrive than it does to order it something is far wrong! Self service is great when it works. It does not work here 20 minutes standing in a queue to place my own order, the woman at the till was so slow and seemed to be completely unaware of the situation. Food was decent enough and arrived after 10 mins but the service, was terrible with dirty dishes everywhere, no condiments on the table and the place was very cold. Same story in the shop. Huge queue for the post office but no one serving the other till. Typical Inverurie food experience "that'll do" attitude that 99% of people are so used to they are now blind to it.

Me and my boyfriend went here for lunch, this was the first time we visited and thought the food was super tasty ! The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful, I would 100% recommend.

We decided to treat ourselves to the Christmas lunch today, usually it's a quick dash from work to get our lentil soup and sandwiches. We opted for the two course lunch. Lovely turkey dinner followed by Christmas pud. Then coffee and a mince pie. Service as always is friendly and helpful. We made a reservation for the table due to being restricted for time. Lunch was served promptly and we were all very pleased. Would defo recommend it to others. We bought lovely Christmas treats back to the rest of the team. Thank you

We went in to restaurant Thursday 9th November at 1240 Went up to the counter to order two baked potatoes only to be told that there wasn't any !!! Unacceptable at this time of day

If you like getting mugged and your cakes full of chemicals , this is the baker for you. Both of us felt ill after eating their cakes , we wont be back.

Went in for portion macaroni got two small scoops charged £3 05 good macaroni but not value for money come on Mr ross we have supported u through the years so at least give a slightly better portion size

Portsoy shop Went in for sandwiches.. burger and coffee takeaways. Was served by Lucy a girl with a unfortunate attitude who had absolutely no people skills. She was rude and defiant..a lady called Victoria came to my rescue and apologised to me on behalf of the girl. We go to Buckie and Banff shops with no problems..nice friendly staff.

We ordered 2 items, a cheese toastie on white and a cheese and ham on brown. After being asked by assistant multiple times if we wanted white or brown, did we want salad...I mean at least 6 times, then having order read back, when delivered to our table it was one cheese toastie ( so tough i left part of it!) and a plate of sandwiches! At no point was the word sandwich mentioned. A senior staff member came to apologise and said staff member at till was nervous. We just kept the sandwiches..but it wasnt on our order. She did give us two free cakes, which was nice. However I wont be back there again.

Nice enough place to have lunch, was very busy but staff still remained polite and friendly. Will be returning!

Stopped here for an afternoon cuppa today and what a great experience. Fresh made pancakes were so very good. The highlight of our visit was the delightful, kind, young lady who took our order at the till and brought us our pancakes. What a credit to the company.

Walked in group of 8 ok it was busy at the time so there was a little wait for the table. Sat down and ordered at the till to then wait 25-30 mins for our food. I understand when your busy it can be a bit of a wait but when a table of 5 and a table of 4 come in after us order and get their food before us is unacceptable. Then i find a hair in my COLD chips litterally just out of the fryer apparently. NOT ON! said to the staff No refund No appology but asked if i would want more ehh NO THANKS...also the garbage outside is disgusting dog poop bags at the front door of your cafe... very hygenic indeed ... i will not be back to this place!!!

Visiting the head office cafe’ was absolutely a great experience. Everyone has a smile and great welcome. Anne, Maggie and Jennifer were absolutely great. Looked after us so well 😊 Love the Chicken Pie and actually the whole meal. Thank you all 👍🏼

We went into the restaurant on Tuesday but was very disappointed. We were told there was no salad no coleslaw but the worst no chips really !!!! I had a baked potato tuna and melted cheese needed a magnifying glass to be honest to find the tuna under cheese that was more like red glue than melted cheese . My partner had a toastie the bread was so dried out and hard he could only eat filling !! Both were served with a handful of crisps No discount was offered for trimmed down portion .if this had been our first visit we would definitely not be going back .

Poor customer service in cafe at lunchtime. No assistant to serve out soup in cafe/coffee shop - yet the one on the till taking 2 customers who just bypassed the queue - coming from the other direction to order food! at the till! You shouldn’t have to wait in excess of 5 minutes to get served!

I was on my way from Tain to Dunnottar Castle and really wanted a pie. We took a ten minute detour off the main highway and had a fantastic pie, well three pies and a sausage roll. The service was brilliant and we could eat in, have tea and coffee. They had great facilities and the pies are outstanding. If you're a pie lover like me and in Scotland, drop by this place. Five stars.

Visit portsoy bakers very often, and absolutely so disappointed that it's been changed to cardboard dishes for our food and wooden forks ect and take away cups. Doubt we will be back

Being local to Inverurie jg Ross over the year has been a staple Saturday afternoon visit for us, over the last year or so the service and portion sizes have been diabolical, the service was slow and she was also unwilling to make any sandwiches or heat us up any pies so we went for chicken fillets with chips. we received about 4 chips in our boxes along with your chicken fillets. More staff training is required I think definitely won’t be back until it’s sorted

We use JG Ross in Oldmeldrum wonderful staff and wonderful food. We own our own business and while working in Inverurie decided to call in to JG Ross there for our breakfast. To say it was a shock to the system is an understatement. cold Beans, Sausages were rubber and worse still staff with attitude. The woman making the pancakes looked so miserable and didn't even acknowledge a hello. How this JG Ross can be so opposite to Oldmeldrum I have no idea and thank goodness for the good food and friendly staff at Oldmeldrum meaning it has not put us off JG Ross altogether

Annoyingly when my husband went to collect our order there was no recollection of it and it wasn’t ready. He was made to feel like it was his fault even although we had confirmation. However whilst he waited a fresh order was made up. The food was delicious. Everything from the sandwiches to the tray bakes. The scones were amazing. I've visited on a few occasions recently to stock up my cupboards and for a treat once a week since lockdown began and I have to say I've been very impressed. The service has been great, the bakes incredible and I can't wait to visit the cafe once lockdown has been lifted!

I have had both home delivery and kerb side collection and each time I have been met with great staff. Products are good quality and prices are reasonable. This service has been invaluable during the crisis. A range of products too which has meant not having to go to more than one place. Thank you.

We ordered Afternoon Tea, Fantastic service to be able to order and have it delivered to your doorstep within the hour- free of charge! We were able to buy our favourite delicious Macaroni pies, fresh milk and local eggs as well as fresh bread.The Afternoon Tea was top class. Fresh, tasty sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam. Tasty sausage rolls and an array of fancies. Fresh, tasty food which was so filling we didn't need dinner! The doorstep delivery was much appreciated by us as we have a new baby and hope it will be continued beyond 'Lockdown' as we would certainly regularly make use of it.

Click and Collect service was fantastic, easy to use and staff were very helpful. We will be back for another order.

I had a birthday lunch in the function room of the restaurant for 10 kids, we had kids lunch bags which had a choice of sandwich & drink, yoghurt, cake bar, crisps & colouring pencils to use on the bags, I also ordered a cake for the lunch from them. Really impressed with their service, nothing was a bother, all the kids enjoyed their lunch bags and the cake was amazing. Definitely coming back in April for my younger sons birthday!

Wife had her 40th family meal here. pre ordered from set menu before hand. Food was lovely. Staff friendly and helpful. No faults.

My family and I stopped by J.G Ross for a drink and snack. The shop has plenty of car park spaces with an outside kids park. Inside it has both a restaurant and shop with very friendly and polite staff. The decor in the restaurant is very modern and attractive. There is a wall showing the history of the business. The table we sat had a power socket with USB ports to charge your mobile phone. The restaurant was very clean. There were a lot of tasty food on display. I had a latte and a buttery and both were delicious. The price was reasonable. Look forward to going back again soon.

Arrived at 11.25 but were told breakfast was no longer being served. However the menu clearly on display behind the counter said “until 11.30” and the couple before us also ordered breakfast. The server couldn’t even tell us exactly what we could have as only the breakfast menu could be seen and the electronic menu would “change soon”. Very disappointing as we were still within the advertised time and had waited quite a while to be served. Plenty of other lovely cafes in the area so choose somewhere else!

Another great Sunday lunch! We had very tasty sandwiches served with fresh salad, coleslaw & crisps. Generous portions (fillings oozing out!). We couldn’t resist the lovely cakes on offer as a sweet. Chocolate Yule log & apple & cinnamon tray bake. Both fabulous. Service was first class - quick and faultless - and all staff were polite and friendly. Just how it should be everywhere.

10 minutes to order food and get drinks, one poor lady doing both while another worker, seemed like a supervisor stood and watched. When we got to the till to pay another lady had appeared and stood speaking to the supervisor. Meanwhile a young guy was running around like there was no tomorrow, cleaning tables, putting clean cups away. The attitude of the supervisor who has blonde hair, a yellow tartan top was honestly awful, didn’t seem to come across as friendly or helpful. No structure to the restaurant anymore. Sat for over half an hour waiting for food while people who cane in after us, ordered similar things were being served before us and it turns out that our order hadn’t been put through. No apology or anything so requested a refund, to which Claire apologised but for the person in the yellow top there wasn’t even a slight apology.The excuse was that they were a member of staff short but yet there was still time to stand and chat. Will not be returning, after being done up this establishment has went rapidly downhill.

Had a really lovely afternoon tea in the private dining room with a group of girl friends on Saturday. The table was set beautifully and the choices of little cakes were great, in addition to all the sandwiches and freshly made scones. All topped off with a nice wee glass of fizz. Really enjoyable, thank you.

We visited the cafe before doing some shopping in the shop. We both had Americano coffees, my wife had the strawberry tart and I had an apple/custard tart. Coffees were good as were both tarts. The cafe is large, spacious and kept very clean. There is an outdoor child’s play area with picnic benches.

I visited this branch of J G Ross today and was very happy with the customer service I receive which was far better than previous visits. I did note there is new staff on the premise. It is a very friendly and happy shop to visit.

Like the new look, nice seating areas. Myself and my family visited for afternoon refreshments, around 2.30pm, but was so disappointed with the choice, for one of the largest bakers in Aberdeenshire was poor, the Victoria sponge was awful, the icing sugar we had to scrape off, it tasted like the costco birthday cakes. There was only 2 scones left, asked if there was anymore, but was told NO. Not the friendliest of staff. Went to the take away section to get a couple of sandwiches on the way out, tuna, & cheese with spring onion mayo, was asked if wanted salad, i asked for lettuce and cucumber. When we got home the sandwiches were soggy with lettuce and tomato, not what i asked for. I don’t mind paying for nice food, but i do grudge paying for what we received. I wont be in a hurray back. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, this review does not include hot food as we didn’t purchase any meals.

Four work colleagues entered JG Ross in Inverurie on a very wet and cold day for some hot food spending altogether over £28. As only one of us had bought their food from the restaurant area we were immediately confronted buy a very rude rotund lady with blond hair who rudely told us to leave their premises without any disregard to how much we had already spent in their establishment we left embarrassed and humiliated

Super clean establishment, good fresh food served quickly, will return soon. Softest panini, even after toasting, most enjoyable!

Excellent service from Dot and Claire in particular. They made sure we got everything and were very accommodating. Everyone on the bus was delighted with the butteries and coffees! A new stop on our annual trip. See you next year!

Popped in for a scone and a coffee ,pleasant staff and no waiting ,nice seat at the windows . The place has had a makeover and is looking good . The takeaway side has a good range of products on display and was quite busy with people coming and going

Popped in last Saturday for a 'fly'. Should have gone somewhere else. Young girls working with no clue. Over £17!for the pleasure. Got a number to take to the table for our two coffees, then waited and waited. Had to go to counter twice to ask where our coffees were and told them we were halfway through our cakes! How difficult is it? Staff training badly overdue. People work hard for their money and deserve better whilst spending it.

Second visit in the last few weeks and its now my last. Both times been ignored by staff at the counter when they were quite aware of customers. Eye contact made with several but no action. I will not stand at a counter and be ignored, i will take my custom elsewhere.

As in the area we decided to pop in past for coffee and a cake, should have been simple but not for this place. On joining the queue a group of people in front of us decided to leave wishing us good luck on getting served. Listening to the other customers waiting there was certainly frustration with the service. The staff looked stressed and totally overwhelmed not helped by a female manager who was bossing them from one job to another.

First visit since the revamp & I wouldn’t go back. Considering it was Mother’s Day the choice of cakes was ridiculous. You also have to walk to the end where the till is to see what else is on offer to walk back to place your order to go back again to pay. Chocolate cake & a cappuccino ordered with a table Number we sat down. Still no drink & had to ask a passing staff member but over 10mins later it arrived but the coffee is disgusting. We left, not to mention £5.50. Expensive. Think JG Ross need to look at all the negative comments & make changes.

Recent visit for some bacon rolls and a sausage bap.

My mum and her friend visited at lunchtime at the beginning of the month. One of them is coeliac and requires a gluten free diet. Despite advertising that they provide gluten free options, the assistant said she didn't think they did this and, on her talking to what appeared to be a manager, it was confirmed that there was nothing so they went elsewhere. The staff attitude was terrible. Surely a Baker can have gluten free bread to at least offer a sandwich? I privately messaged the company on Facebook three times and have heard nothing. Local company has got too big for it's boots and doesn't care about their customers. Very, very poor.

Decided to try out the newly refurbished coffee shop so opted for lunch menu today. Cafe was very busy and appeared short staffed so overall service was very slow. A long queue for ordering food with staff struggling to serve meals plus clear tables at the same time. Our server did apologise for the long delay, when our food finally arrived, and offered us another hot drink on the house. Our meals were tasty enough.

Decided to visit the newly revamped coffee shop for breakfast. Was very disappointed with the choices available and the prices are excessive. My husbands breakfast which cost around £9.25 from memory was nothing special, food cold and shrivelled up. My poached eggs on toast were like no others, the most bizarre texture, possibly microwaved, I'm not sure, but they certainly weren't poached in a pan of water! Had to wait ages for our hot drinks to arrive. For the price we paid, I was expecting quality food but sadly that wasnt the case. The staff could also benefit from some customer service training, not a smile or conversation from any of them, they are rude and definitely dont look like they want to be there. New decor not to my taste either, the fake ivy trellis and terracotta crockery look very dated. Wont be rushing back. Looks old fashioned and too expensive for what it is.

Decided to visit Ross’s due to it having being revamped. Decor and shop big improvement however service and price of food really let it down. I understand it was very busy when we went in however you have several members of staff running about looking clueless and out of their comfort zone. We ordered two sausage rolls and two lattes, sausage rolls were £3.50 each a total rip off!! One hot and one cold as if I were to buy them to take out it would have been £1.60 each. You can’t justify that price in my opinion for sitting in the cafe.. had to wait for our coffees at which time we had finished our overpriced pastries. Certainly won’t be back when they are treating customers like mugs.

Me and my family visited the Highclere store today to leave very disappointed. The choice of food they had available for a Sunday lunch time was very limited on takeaway. The selection of cakes was well.. non existent. To call yourself a top class bakery/takeaway is a joke. We will not be rushing back.

My wife, mother and myself visited for lunch today whilst passing through Inverurie. We usually pop in three to four times a year because we know we will get a traditional lunch and usually have stovies or mince and tatties which we always enjoy. Decided on a change today and very disappointed. Elderly mother wanted a half portion of chicken goujons and chips but told this wasn’t an available option. I can understand it not being possible to have small portions of some things like self-contained pies but not this selection. Staff tried to be helpful and offered a child’s portion. (What’s the difference?). Even then mother struggled to eat it. In this age of the grey pound, its important to realise that many older people just can’t manage a full portion and its a shame to see food leftover and wasted.

Whilst this is a self service venue the staff are very helpful and in addition to taking your orders, prepare hot beverages and serve food orders at your table. I was with my father and neither of us was particularly hungry so decided to share a sandwich. The waitress overheard and we were served it on two plates with crisps and salad at no extra cost - a very nice touch. Lots of home cooking on offer so will be back!

Went for a quick take away which was not very quick we must have stood waiting for are food for about 20 minutes and when we got are food the sweet chilli chicken panini had tuna over the bread and stunk of tuna which meant it couldn’t be eaten because of allergies. Safe to say I won’t be returning

Cakes are very nice, however panini over priced. I chose a tuna mayo and cheese panini as I didn’t think you could go very wrong with this but it was pretty rank. Staff all need to at least try and crack a smile and as though they want to be there and also pretend that they know what they are doing. Won’t be back, next time I shall meet friends elsewhere.

Very noisy, average food at premium prices, staff aren’t exactly smiley and the whole place has a school cafeteria fee to it.

Not very aspiring, but serves reasonable food at reasonable prices. Not my first choice for a quick lunch in this area.

Dropped in for a chilli con carne and a prawn baked potato carry out. Both very tasty and good value for money.

Friendly, roomy efficient. On a first visit January 2018, great space between tables, good choice of food at realistic prices. It was tasty and a generous portion. Helpful staff and good to see the male manager zipping about clearing tables, serving, working the till and generally being supportive of his staff.

Don’t often go here but when we do the coffee is usually nice and they have a good selection of cakes. JG Ross do the best sausage rolls in Aberdeenshire and I always buy a couple every time I visit. Slightly overpriced for what you get but apart from that a nice friendly place to visit.

Was at Ross's coffee shop today for lunch. Never again. On the menu was pie beans and chips. We both asked if we could have pie and beans only. Yes that was ok. But when it came to paying the bill they had charged us for all three. When we asked to speak to the manager about our bill she first agreed that it was not right to be charged for all three items when all we had was two items. But she said that it was company policy throughout all their outlets. Did not know that Ross's had more than one coffee shop. When I told her that I would be going on to trip advisor about our visit she became defensive and said that if we did not like it we could have had something else and then went on to tell me that I was not a nice person. O dear if I had ever spoken to any of my customers like that I would have been sacked on the spot. I think that Ross's need to remember that there are many other very nice coffee shops in Inverurie that people will visit rather an this coffee shop which over charged us. And after all that the pie was not great.

A bright and airy premises with good food and staff. With the owners also being the bakers the range of bread, rolls and cakes is extensive. Clean and warm. An extensive menu is available and there is a shop within the premises.What more can you ask for?

Usually love Ross's for their fresh bread & take away sandwiches. Ate in restaurant today & was disappointed. Kids had lunch deal which imo is overpriced for what you get. Waited ages for my soup & toastie (granted they were busy) when it arrived the cheese in the toastie wasn't even melted & the veg broth tasted like it came from a tin. Won't be rushing back.

We recently noticed this cafe on a visit to a shop next door. We decided that the next time we were in the area we would try this place for lunch. We tried and would say it was good for what it is. The cafe is due to be refurbished and probably about the right time. The serving area needs rethought for a busy place as not the best layout for moving people through. The staff were very nice and our food was good quality. They also have some nice cakes as a Bakers Coffee

We visited Ross coffee shop for afternoon tea as we passed through Inverurie.It was a good choice not only for afternoon but also for breakfast, lunch and even a coffee or tea break.A good menu and very friendly staff.It is well signposted from the A96 and only a few minutes diversion; well worth the effort.

You have got to remember this is a warehouse converted into a cafe. Not a restaurant! I have been a customer here for years and revisit maybe once a quarter purely do to convenience. top tip - dont buy meat from a baker... large roll and sausage takeaway is £2.30 with 3 sausages over cooked and dry and I also dread to think what the meat content is. If I have fried food it often is a treat therefore i am partial to 2 rolls. if you throw in a bacon roll with a slice of potato scone (potato scone was dry and bacon fatty and very poor quality meat again!) it was 2.75. JG Ross - With these prices please consider giving your customers a quality of product they deserve - Up your game! if you throw in a coffee you don't get much change of a 10 for a breakfast. takeaway!With all the above aside - if you are taking your family for lunch and sitting in don't expect change of £30 quid. My recommendation is - go to Morissons or Tesco cafe it will cost you 50% less and you will get the same or better quality of product - and lets face it - it is a cafe in a shop a very similar model!!!

Had lunch here with my step mum and my little sister, we had no problem with our service but the prices on that menu. Also on my way home to kintore i stopped off at their bakers next to farmfoods and bought a cake and milk the milk was out of date by two days and to top it off the woman who served me undercut me by 20p. My advice on the cafe is try morrisons, its just down the road and also there is also a cafe right beside it next to the vets.

We were in for a quick fli cup and the service was good and friendly. The restaurant was busy and very clean. We had a good cup of coffee and scone. The soft play area outside was well used and the children seemed to be having fun.

We stopped in for breakfast and left fed and shocked. Two filled rolls with two drinks cost over £11.

Service was so slow, tables cluttered and dirty and no one tidying them so customers were moving dirty dishes from table to table. Waited far too long for soup and coffee (the first 2 choices were unavailable). Wrong food came for one of us so waited an age for a bowl of soup. When it came it was inedible - tasted like mouldy tomatoes. Complained but was ignored. Will definitely not go back.
