Rossi's Parlour in Southend-on-Sea

Please would you consider opening a Rossi's in Norwich. I'm from Essex and miss you. Even Asda here has stopped selling it...why x

The location is a reasonable walk from the pier and in an ideal location facing the beach. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the staff most helpful , the weather was sunny and we sat outside enjoying the view - in fact we could not have wished to be any where else than sitting in the sunshine enjoying delicious fish n chips followed by traditional superb Rossi ice cream.

Great place too have icecream all flavours, and good price,lovey sandwich,polite and cheerful staffwe will be back,good seating inside and out,maybe need more umbrellas up when sunny but thats nothing lovely place too have icecream i had a oyster with rum&raisin yum!

Small portions of rice cream and doesn’t accept AMEX!!! Stay clear The place is poorly managed and dirty floors. It’s always been a firm family fav but not anymore

Had bought two ice creams which a friend had paid for, returned and bought one later and realised we had been over-charged for the other two. Went back with friend who bought another one and told a member of staff we had been overcharged before. She just kept saying that she hadn't been working then and argued that we must have had mediums before. My friend asked for the money off the ice cream he was buying to resolve the problem. she did it, grudgingly. when she turned to the till she was shaking her head as if we were being unreasonable and making comments to the other staff as if we were making trouble, which I thought was very rude. It was their mistake and if you overcharge customers you refund them, you don't argue.

Had a lovely time at The Parlour. Staff were really friendly, service was excellent and food yummy and great value for money. Can totally recommend the vanilla ice cream from the churn, delicious. Perfect for a summer get together with friends. Great views too!!

This was my first visit and we had initially popped in for an ice cream but once seated decided that we would have food. The staff were attentive and the food was delicious and prompt! A great place to eat! Ps the ice cream was great too! 🍦

Met with friends and enjoyed the buzz about the place. A real bit of nostalgia as I spent many childhood years by the sea. Tried the churned vanilla on a whim and was blown away with the taste. I must return as that’s not a once in a lifetime experience. You’ll not be disappointed either.

waited for almost fifteen minutes in a queue, then to be told sorry we’re closing now!! completely unprofessional, why they can’t have a system for stopping more people queuing then serve those left in the queue is beyond me… We won’t go back there , not customer focused anymore

Went there with my daughters and grandson and had ice creams. We sat indoors as outside tables were all taken. But there was a strong pungent smell of urine coming from toilet area and we were a good 5/6 metres away. Rossi’s please get your toilet problem sorted. Ice cream 99’s though were as nice as always

I hired the ice-cream parlour on a Friday evening for my husband's birthday. I cannot fault the service we received from the staff, both on the night and with all the arrangements beforehand. The food was delicious and plentiful and, of course, everyone had an ice-cream!

The famous ice cream was amazing stuff was awful very very mean but it was worth the 2 hours in the car for the ice cream you should go but use your manners.

A Southend landmark and have been coming here for years but gave up today. Previous purchasing system was easy and worked for decades! Food order one at one till and ice cream orders at a second and a menu for both on the wall. Separate queues, easy to get served and straightforward. Now meal orders, ice cream for in the cafe and also take away from the same till. Result? Queue out of the door, people waiting for take away ice cream sitting at tables, tables empty as all of the chairs had been commandeered for other groups, for example a group of eight crammed around a table for four. There were people crammed between tables waiting to get in the queue or to find a table or to wait for friends in the queue already. It was chaos! No one seemed to know where to go, what the ordering system was or who was doing what. Servers came out with orders but couldn't find who they were bringing meals too and seemed to struggle to get through the rearranged tables and people waiting. No management of the tables and staff staring blanky from behind the counter It was a free for all. We gave up as was simply too much hassle.

A joy to visit Rossi's again, after coming here as a child with my grandfather in the late 1960s. My bro had bought a cake to celebrate my birthday and we would like to say huge thanks to Amber who cut the cake up for us, and added some delicious Rossi ice creams for us all. She even brought it all out to us. That was so lovely of her, hope her boss reads this, she is an asset to Rossi's. Lovely sitting in the sunshine overlooking the sea and palm trees, such a great spot. Hope to go back there sometime. Highly recommend Rossi's, I know they do great meals too.

I first had a Rossi 99 in the late 60s . I have visited on and off since then first with children and now grandchildren.My wife and I stopped off today before heading back to London. We bought two medium 99s and after the first bite both agreed that it was no longer the ice cream we remember. The texture was vastly different and the taste bore no resemblance to traditional Rossis ice cream . It was bland and something akin to the ice cream sold from vans which tour round . I cannot say categorically that the owners have changed the recipe but it sure tasted like it. Only someone used to the previous ice creams would be aware. Very disappointing

We have been coming here for over 20 years and i’m afraid it’s come to an end. This place needs a clean. The toilets are the dirtiest we’ve ever been in and the hygiene rating is 1. There is enough money to sort this out and quite frankly it’s disgraceful. Will be going elsewhere until you can respect your customers and give basic cleanliness.

Ordered egg& chips, not good & luke warm, not worth the money. You are paying for the view!!! Why have they only got a 1 star hygiene rating. Not good for a landmark on southend. The ice cream at £3.75 a cone is too expensive

Had a day out at Southend and just had to have a Rossi ice-cream. This is the ice-cream of my childhood and brings back found memories of my family having an ice-cream in the Rossi ice-cream parlours at Walthamstow Market and Chingford Mount sadly both have long gone. I have not had one of these for years and it was just as good as I remembered. This ice-cream really is a cut above the rest. Make sure you get the vanilla from the churn then add a flake and you have the most delicious ice-cream ever. We have already decided to pop back there next month and have our lunch there followed of course by an ice-cream.

Happy atmosphere, lovely servers, excited children, delicious icecream a highlight of a day by the sea!

Wonderful ice cream, the best, and this is what they are known for, so you’ll never be disappointed. Definitely come here for ice cream. Avoid anything else. The coffee is one of the worst things I have ever had in my 42 years. They don’t clean the milk steamer - just take a look at it. It’s gross with moulded milk and leaves flakes on your coffee - I thee mine away after one mouthful. The staff are miserable, in particular the older lady who does the coffee - she’s no barista! The food is cheap ingredients, great for the oaps that visit, but not even worth a cheap fry up. Ice cream is 5 stars, the rest is 1

Went in there for a snack sat looking out at the sea. It was quite full, people coming and going, not one table was wiped down when people left. I have been to McDonalds and it is much cleaner in there in fact it is spotless. Dont think I will be going back to Rossi in a hurry, especially in these covid19 times.

Popped in here for a tea and coffee which was ok but not overly hot. My concern is the cleanliness. We sat outside, there was a few unoccupied tables that had not been cleared. When someone eventually came to clear them there was no anti bac spray used just a cloth in a very small container. The member of staff wiped up some spilled chocolate ice cream from one table & then directly wiped another table without even rinsing the cloth. In these Covid-19 times this surely is not hygienic. Just pleased I anti bac’ed my table myself before I sat down. The toilet had a notice on it saying you used it at your own risk as it wasn’t cleaned after every person!!! Soap dispenser was full of soap but didn’t work. Occasionally cleaning might be good. Sad to see lack of care for customers and makes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes that you can’t see.

I visited Rossi’s today, I wanted to order the mega breakfast, when I asked to have the breakfast without some items as I don’t like them. I was rudely asked by the manager “why would I want that breakfast then”, it shouldn’t matter what I order, as its all money in their pocket the end of the day.

So, today my partner and I visited this place. I ordered a veggie breakfast with a veggie sausage. The veggie breakfast does not have sausage on the menu(the vegan breakfast does) I tucked into my breakfast and was impressed with the authenticity of the 'sausage substitute'. I took one mouthful and realised that it was dead animal. My partner was happy to continue eating his as he is not a committed veggie and was very hungry. I, on the other hand was disturbed. I spoke to the young waitress who showed genuine concern. I removed the sausage from my plate and asked that she gave us the veggie sausage that we had originally requested and asked to speak to the mananager. I played it all down and did not kick up a fuss. Now, I wish that I had. The manager came and made no apology. I said 'Why would I order a veggie breakfast with meat sausages?' Why did the chef not question it?. Her reply... 'Well people order them for their dogs...' Surely, had i had my pooch with me i would have requested it on a separate plate. No apology, no refund offered. Never going back.

with all the different variety of ice cream themed dishes , it is difficult to stray away from them . however i chose a superb coffee with fish and chipsthe meal arrived piping hot , a large pice of golden battered cod with plenty of chips and a salad garnish. --- all very enjoyable.

My girlfriend asked me recently if there was a certain ice cream I liked. I told her about my affection for Rossi’s ice cream which I had last tasted a long time ago. She said let’s go to Southend and she told me about the brilliant Rossi’s on the seafront. We arrived a day before the coronavirus restrictions were introduced. Parking was easy. Family owned firm, long established in Southend and surrouding area. Great ice cream, wide range of flavours. Restaurant also does range of non icream snack type food.

I arrived at the ice cream parlour with my family at 5:40pm, having checked the closing time on Google stating they close at 6pm. We ended up leaving with no ice cream & 2 very disappointed kids.The business should really update their opening times on Google.

i have visited this place a couple of times over the past few days, and yet again good quality food at reasonable priceson our first visit we both had the breakfast i went for the larger version both where excellent with not a hint of grease or fat in sight on our second visit i had the salt beef and chips which was very good and a good size portion with plenty of meat, my other half again went for the small breakfast and was thoroughly pleased with her choice all in all very good value

Popped in here with hubby as our usual Rossi kiosk was closed. We had already decided on the flavour ice creams we wanted but were disappointed to find only a choice of about six instead of the usual amount in the other kiosk. The chap who served us did offer to get some more flavours out of the main freezer when I said I wasn't going to order. Whilst waiting for our ice creams to be served a young girl was serving another customer and I couldn't help overhearing how rude she was to the poor chap. He was just asking for a simple thing to be explained regarding a sundae but the young girl was treating him like an idiot and I found it highly offensive. Not sure we'll come back again if the staff cannot respect their customers. Oh and PS the ice creams didn't taste of much at all. Very disappointing.

We went to have an ice cream today but when we saw the lady who was about to serve us put her hand down her jumper to scratch her underarm and then "cuff" her nose on the palm of her hand we walked out! We have been coming here for many years and all the staff are wonderful except this unhygienic person. This is not the first time we have left when she is serving. We will of course be returning again but we will not be served by her. Management - Please take note.

have used this place since I was a small child, so that's more than 60 years, there is plenty of pay and display parking, and plenty of outside seating weather permitting, it is wheel chair friendly, and the service is very good this is a daytime place as it shuts in the late afternoon.the food is very good and decent portions with a fair selection, breakfasts, fish and chips, curry, burgers, stews, calamari, scampi, salads and lots more.we both had the excellent cod and chips which came with a little bit of salad, a good size portion which was more than enough lovely white fish inside a crispy batter with plenty of chips, it was to much for my other half, we had to wait about 12-15 minutes for it to be cooked fresh, no complaints this place never disappoints will be back

We end our sea front walk to the pier and back in the Rossi parlour for a simple but wholesome meals. Lots and lots of choice reasonable priced. We have used Rossi's for years for their famous tub delivered ice cream. There is only ONE Rossi ice cream and the portions are generous, avoid the large cornet from the tub! You will have trouble balancing the ice cream as you cross the road to eat it on the numerous sea front seats.

This is the place to go for value for money ,a latte £1.60 , we go when ever we are on the front for a walk, sausage sandwich and a coffee, can’t beat it

Walked in waited in a que, zero smile by the staff. got the the counter and she seemed upset that I wasnt 100%sure what I wanted. I asked a question about the price of pancakes with ice cream being more expensive than a single scoop, with the suggestion that maybe I got lots of icecream. she shrugged her shoulders "one for you"and asked a collegue to answer, to which the response was " we dont make the prices"!The to my astonishment I wasnt served anymore, the people behind me were served, and I was ignored until the first lady, said to the server who answered my question..." SHE still wants serving" !!I couldnt believe how rude they were to me... the ice cream itself was good, and in particular the lemon ice!

We come to the Rossi for a coffee on our dog walk along the seafront. No frills but reasonable coffee. You can sit inside and out. We opt for out as we have the dog. Always water outside for dogs.

Rossi’s ice cream is a must if your ever near the parlour . Good old fashioned service and great ice cream just as I remembered as a child .

Not being a regular ice-cream eater, on a stroll along the seafront with a friend and spotting Rossi's (which rang a bell somewhere) decided to go in for a scoop. It is what you might call 'ice-cream parlour style' decor - kind of glass, shiny plastic, minimalist, no frills. However, while queueing, I saw you can get all kinds of fast food to eat in or take out, including one of my favourites, falafel.

Was so looking forward to trying the famous Rossi’s! But couldn’t have been more disappointed.

The cafe is on the seafront and as such there is no free parking, it's £2.90 for 2 hours immediately outside the cafe and along the seafront in general. There are outside tables but I sat inside as it was the usual English weather, wet and windy. There is a pretty extensive menu, not just ice cream, including jacket potatoes, omelettes, sandwiches, fish and chips and various other options. I opted for the All Day Breakfast Special which was £5.90 and included a hot drink or my choice, not bad considering the latte I chose was £2 on it's own. The breakfast was served quickly and included a small sausage, 2 rashers of bacon, a fried egg, half a fresh tomato and a slice of white toast. It looked fresh and appetising and was very tasty. The coffee glasses are quite small so I ended up having a second drink as one was not enough. The interior of the cafe is pretty basic with some fixed seating and a row of movable tables and chairs down the middle. I was quite surprised at how reasonable the prices were, having never visited before. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely pop in again if looking for a quick bite.

Ideal stopping point for ice creams but avoid the tea. They just occasionally add hot water to a tin tea pot leading to weak luke warm tea. As for a separate tea bag in a cup or bettter still a china pot and tea cup.

Why is it that a huge corporation like Rossi’s, situated opposite the estuary, is selling ice creams with plastic spoons? I see many of these offensive articles discarded along the seafront and frankly, it’s not good enough! Come on Rossi, change to wood or something more environmentally friendly and save our seas!

The staff were rude and manipulative. I was quite offended when I came out as I had been blatantly insulted. Ice cream was average but would not visit again because of the staff.

We were visiting friends in Leigh on Sea and they suggested a 'pilgrimage' to Rossi's for ice cream. An excellent idea and we all chose a different flavour and sat outside in the sunshine. What an excellent idea!

I used to visit the various nearby Arches cafes for fish and chips but found, to my surprise, that Rossi's f&c; are better, with thin crispy batter as opposed to batter that's soggy underneath! Plenty of lunch choices. Their breakfasts are good value too. The coffee and tea is somewhat mediocre though.

Had a big delicious Ice Cream. It was 33 degrees. And a very warm day. The place was very busy the queue was out the door. A comfortable place to sit and enjoy my ice cream. Also had a bottle of cold water.

Rossi's was packed when I visited this morning, with queue for ice cream. We were lucky enough to have a table and could really enjoy our ice cream. I had read one or two criticisms about the ice cream on this site, but in fact ours was delicious.

Delicious ice cream of so many different flavours. Very satisfying to eat at a table outside in the sunshine. Just be careful of the step!

Great ice cream but very sad to be served a polystyrene cup when ordering in. Try using a glass instead of this awful stuff and you may help landfill problems.

You can’t visit Southend on sea and not go to Rossi . Always a pleasure. Sometimes you have to queue, but the wait is worth it.

We decided to eat at Rossi’s after taking a lovely long walk and feeling quite hungry. I’d been there before and had their ice creams but this was the first time I’d eaten their food. Needless to say it will be the last. I wasn’t expecting anything amazing, and unfortunately this expectation was met.

Love a good ice cream at Rossi’s parlour. Have been coming here for many years. They have now introduced some new flavours (inc Cookies and Cream) and they are fabulous. Lovely view of the front as well. Highly recommended.

I'm not a great consumer of ice cream, mainly due to the high cholesterol, fat and sugar content, but decided to treat myself and my wife to a Rossi last week.
