Rose Spice in Chiltern

This is honestly the best vegan tikka masala I've ever had! The staff are so attentive to vegan dietary requirements and called up to say that they didn't cook with dairy, ghee or butter and informed me that any oil I would see would be vegetable oil. A must visit!

The food here is so good for the price. More family-friendly and affordable than the other restaurants in Chesham, but better quality than the cheaper options. They support local events too. Service with a smile and free poppadoms with dips! Thank you

Popped in tonight to experience Banquet night. It was our first time eating in this restaurant and I cannot fault the service or the food. Both were outstanding. The waiters were kind, courteous and attentive. The food was hot, fresh and very well priced. The portion sizes were also ample. I tried the Naga lamb biryani and my partner had the railway chicken with rice and naan. All dishes were full of flavour, delicious. Thank you Rose Spice. We will 100% be going back!

The food was pathetic, they claim it's Indian food, but it's not..

Tried a main and vegetable side that I had never had before. Both really good, especially the sauce on the main. Cheese naan had no trace of cheese though

First time visitors to Rose Spice but will certainly be back. Amazing food and probably one of the best Indian meals we have had. Only taken a mark off as we were in at opening so only customers in and would have preferred some Bhangra or similar in the background rather than a soft rock top 20 (but says it all if the only pickup is the music as the food couldn’t be faulted)

Remember the thrilling conclusion to the 1996 premiere league season where a Cantona-inspired team of Manchester United youngsters overcame Kevin Keegan’s free-scoring but leaky Newcastle? Our waiter certainly did, referencing Keegan’s “I will love it…” rant twice during our meal, in the context that we would love the food he was serving us. But much like Keegan’s end to that season, there was nothing to love about our visit to Rose Spice this Thursday night. Rose Spice – formerly Rajastan, a stalwart of the ‘it’s alright’ restaurants of Chesham – still suffers from the same shortfalls that its predecessor (perhaps in name only, I haven’t researched the ownership) did; chiefly the food and the service. Two arguably important qualities in a restaurant. We should have recognised the risk when we first entered. Despite not even being 10pm on a Thursday, they were prompt to let us know they close at 11, in a manner to suggest they would rather we did not eat there. It was a lapse in judgement we would regret. If a restaurant can’t promise the same impeccable service at 10pm on a Thursday as it can at 7pm on a Friday or literally any time of day they choose to open, then they should close at 10pm on a Thursday and refuse custom after this time. It should say it all when the poppadoms are the best part of your meal – and by a distance. The butter chicken was bland, dry and congealed. The sizzling chicken tikka was NOT sizzling. Though tasted liked it might have been at some point that night. The lamb was tough and tasteless. And despite boasting to cater for vegans – and they do have options – the waiter made a big song and dance of my friend’s understated requests if anything could be done to make the rice be anything other than just plain, boiled rice. Another far superior Indian restaurant just minutes away handled this request with aplomb. When asked if our food was ok, our friend from The Midlands response “it’s alright” was taken as an insult. There was no inquiry to see why he (or the rest of us that were too polite to grumble) were dissatisfied and try to rectify. Instead from this point the atmosphere turned uncomfortable. The music was turned off. The waiters stopped coming to see if we were ok. The food was promptly cleaned away or takeaway containers unceremoniously dumped on our table to pack up our own remains, before a card reader was presented – the amount already having been calculated for us. It had just struck 11pm – closing time. No complimentary drink was offered – as is the custom in Indian restaurants in Chesham and had previously been spoken about by the waiter earlier in the meal – before our truthful but apparently unacceptable appraisal that the food was “alright”. If you live in Chesham or are visiting our little market town, there are far better Indian options just minutes down the road, where they will make you feel welcome and you will leave with full, satisfied bellies. In short, much like Kevin Keegan in that 1996 title-run in, I doubt that you will come away from your visit to Rose Spice and tell anyone “you will love it”. Avoid.

I enjoyed most of the food at Rose Spice, but I was very disappointed with the poppadoms. They were cold and tasted of old oil, I think that they had been cooked for some time and definitely weren't fresh. The dips with the poppadoms were very nice, it's such a shame otherwise I would have given them five stars. I hope that they rectify this problem. The staff were very good, but the lights do randomly flicker, which is off putting.

Best Indian cuisine in Chesham. Me and my BF live in chesham for a long time and we both really love this restaurent after it newly opened.

This is hands down the best Indian takeaway I've had in the area and in a long time, it was so good I had to leave a review minutes after finishing my food. Incredibly tasty and fresh, reasonably priced, generous with portions and also complimentary poppadoms with sauces which was a nice touch. Absolutely superb!

8 of us booked Saturday 30th December 2023. We have been here before. Absolutely lovely place. The food and portions are extremely good. Great flavours. I tried something different and it was delicious! I have Full confidence in this place! My daughters love Rose spice and l travel from pinner to chesham it’s that good! What makes this place special is the friendliness of the hard working staff and that includes the chefs who are hardly seen but deserve great credit for the work they do and the dishes they turn out under extreme pressure when very busy. The staff like to have a bit of fun and banter with you and it’s nice that everyone mixes in well. I fully respect these people and they always make it a great all round experience for us. Genuinely the best curry I’ve had in aaaaaaaages. Everything tastes SO fresh from start to finish, including the popadoms and dips; I think they might have been fresh too? Beautiful starters and mains, great service and not too overbearing which I liked. Will be returning for sure; new local favourite!

Another lovely meal. If you visit try the poppadoms with chutneys, the home made chutneys are unusual and delicious. Everything we chose was well cooked and very tasty

I have a mission now which is to spread the word of how good this restaurant is in the hope of making sure they’ll be a mainstay in Chesham for years to come. The food really is something special, delicious, authentic, freshly prepared with high quality ingredients and a superb choice of dishes. Make sure you have popadoms as all the dishes that arrive with them are prepared in-house and are very tasty, the pomegranate is particularly good and I’ve not found it in any other restaurant. My advice would be to book as it can get busy sometimes and expect the usual wait if your order is in after a big party arrives, there’s nothing unusual about that though and there’s always the option of dining earlier. This is my go to Indian restaurant and Chesham are lucky to have them!

First time coming since the restaurant changed hands a few weeks back. Had been coming here as Rajasthan for a long time, and really pleased that the quality of food is fantastic, the service was great and the price is really competitive! Definitely recommend! Bring some friends and take the time to chat with the guys running the restaurant!

Disappointed we got seated at a table with a lights continuously flickering and dimming throughout the time we were there.. The sauces that came with the popadoms,( the mint and mango chuckney,) had a very strong spice kick! For us who don’t like spicy foods it definitely shouldn’t be spicy, thiis made us stop eating,I had to ask for a jug of water to help.. spoke to the waiter and he didn’t understand my concern. We waited for our main was okay, but paid and left quickly. Unfortunately we won’t be visiting again any time soon.

Tonight was our 4th visit each time the staff have been welcoming & attentive and the food delicious

Though the food was great but the service was shocking. The staff were very abrupt, rushed us with our drinks and menu choices (note this was 6pm and therefore not busy at all) and worst of all they completely ignored my partner only directing their questions at me and cleaning up while she was still eating. Not sure what heir issue was but it put a real dark cloud over what could've been a perfect meal. Real shame as we really enjoyed the food, and therefore will most likely stick to takeaways.

Can't fault it. Been twice in two weeks (once in the restaurant and once collection) and had delicious meals both times! Service was impeccable and the food was absolutely delicious - plus as a vegan they made their vegetarian meals plant based which gave me more options than anywhere else I know of New local for me and will be recommending it to everyone I know

Nicely revamped restaurant and very good food. Unfortunately we were rushed from start to finish eventho we didn’t even order starters. Service was very poor at least from my perspective as the staff only engaged and made eye contact with my husband. I tried to engage with them but they were clearly not interested which was a mistake given I paid for the meal. I was still picking at the remains of the naan bread which the member of staff clearly saw but as soon as my husband got up off the table to use the bathroom, they cleared the table without a word. I’ll probably just stick to ordering a take away from there as the biryani was very good.

Recently upgraded the old place and looks great now... food lovely as well. Very busy on a Saturday so probably best to book in advance

So far with three trips to this revamped Chesham restaurant with different friends, the food has exceeded expectations on each occasion. The wonderful food is decidedly Indian in origin but with marvelous twists to tantalise the tastebuds that is subtly very different to other (dare I say it, more traditional) Indian restaurants. So far I have eaten the chicken Bengali Jalfrezi (my normal go to dish) on my first visit, then the lamb Railway Achari and yesterday the Rose Special...all stunning dishes. The help and service that staff have offered seems to have improved on each visit - which is excellent overall. The internal layout and ambiance changes with booth style seating the first time and slightly more open soft bench style seating on the subsequent visits, I found the booth style seating more intimate when sharing a meal with a friend his two teenage children...great for conversation and humour. Overall 10/10 for the food, service and ambiance inside...so will have to try a take-away or two in the near future - highly recommended!

Amazing food, good price and portions. We picked up our food. The staff was friendly and funny. The food was delicious and, at least for delivery, they were big size portions. We've had leftovers for two different meals ! Super highly recommend

The food here is incredible, with a great range of vegetarian options. We got the tandoori paneer, tadka daal and halloumi pakoras - all brilliant! The prices are very reasonable too. We'll definitely be back again soon to try more of the menu

Ordered a take away as home of the other local curry houses and this one had just opened. I could not find chicken madras on the menu so went for something else. The guy arrived in his bow tie and shirt looking smart. Food was plentiful and very nice indeed. I hope they keep it up and done change the potions or service. My go to curry house now.

Our first visit to the newest Indian restaurant in Chesham. They have a couple of teething issues with music and sunlight. But the food was excellent.
