Rose & Crown in Pembrokeshire

We stayed overnight following a ferry crossing. The ferry was delayed and they made sure we still could access the room. The room was spacious, but it was £180 for 2 adults and a child. There were huge cobwebs on the window, and only toiletries left for 2 people not 3. Breakfast was really disappointing unfortunately. Dirty plates, poor choice or cereal, no yoghurts, fruit or juice to help yourself to, everything was apparently behind the bar and you were only told that when you asked. The cooked breakfast was really greasy and the sausages were cheap and horrid, I couldn’t eat them. Nice staff but totally overpriced for what was on offer!

Enerzijds goed: kamer met mooi uitzicht over de baai, lekker gegeten in de avond en best wel lekker geslapen. Anderzijds niet zo goed: kamers kunnen wel een flinke opknapbeurt gebruiken/best wel wat ‘gewoon onderhoud’ gebruiken. Ontbijt goed, maar niet overdadig. Dus mixed gevoel voor deze locatie.

We stopped for 2 nights bed and breakfast. On the whole very good. Good size room with a floor to ceiling bay window that you could sit in, in an armchair with great views of the harbour. Good full British breakfast. Reasonable price. Bad bits, very few. The bed was quite hard, certainly didn't encourage a late morning. Cheap toilet paper.

Love this place but they now allow dogs. Obviously given in to the very shouty doggy brigade. Puts us and many others we know off returning sadly.

I had Sunday Lunch with my friend today .The premises were immaculate Staff most polite and helpful all of the time . the food was excellent and very warm . i only think there could be more on the pudding choice . the prices are very reasonable .Ishall come to you again thank you for a nice Sunday Lunch Richard Fishguard .

Brilliant dinner, 2 curry's and a mushroom and garlic tagetelli which was lovely. Service is good. Prices OK as can be. The thing that let's it down is the lack of choice for puddings. There really isn't much choice.

Great Gastro pub perfect early dinner and the most important they allow dogs very friendly helpful staff and very quick service

The way in which any business deals with a customer issue is extremely important, even more so for the hospitality sector. The Rose and Crown, Goodwick executed a 'Master Class' on how to get it absolutely correct.

It was our overnight stay after the ferry. The staff was great, despite the late hour (although i guess it's a frequent occurrence for them). The room was comfy for a short stay. Breakfast was quite good. I would absolutely recommend.

We ate at the Rose and Crown tonight after reading the reviews. On arrival the lady behind the bar was lovely but it went down hill from there .It took ages to take our order, I am GF and I did not trust the food as the young lady serving could even tell me if the Garlic mushrooms were strong as I quote ‘ I have tried them’ so we had to ask her to ask. The two people serving didn’t seem to know what GF was . Also the chips came undercooked and the chicken came out burnt. We had to wait for ages for the food to come out , so we didn’t complain as I’m sure it would have taken longer to get it sorted. We wanted to order more drinks and a pudding but know one then came near the table to ask. In the end we had to go to the bar to pay. I definitely did not enjoy the experience and the staff need more training on how to recognise when it’s time to approach the table !

Very inexperienced staff who had a bit a bit of an attitude towards customers who seemed to be from a different walk of life,didn't come across as friendly at all,communication skills towards the public in general seemed to be awry and need serious brushing up on.Checked in at 4pm,apparently breakfast is served from 8.30am onwards.We told the young lady who took our payment and gave us the key to our room that our train back home was at 7.58am.In most places we stay at they offer us an alternative (i.e:sandwiches to take away with us)but not here,this should have been within our rights as breakfast is included in the price.I noticed that she seemed very quick to offer us an evening meal as to what would have been the alternative,which would have meant that we would have to pay a considerable amount for.I do not rate this hotel,and as said before the management and also the other staff who work there need to take a good look at themselves.

Arrived today ,met by a young girl on reception behind the bar ,not allowed to check in till 1600hrs which to me is very late,so we had to hang around waiting ,conversation went like this ,hi can i take a payment from you,to which we did . What time is breakfast as were both booked in ,however we will be leaving early tomorrow morning,our train leaves at 0758am ,which is to me not that early is it . The young girl then said "it looks like you've missed breakfast as we dont start till 8am". The options never came ,i were waiting for her to say something like "however you can have something to take with you ". Then she said "your welcome to have food later between 5-8pm here in the restuarant " In other words ,can you pay us extra ,get to the twin room and theres barely any milk for teas and coffees ,rubbish really ,and all about the money,in fact theyre probably trained to get extra money out of people to boost the coffers ,its pretty faceless here

I was keen to try out the Rose & Crown as its local to my holiday let. The service was friendly & efficient, however the food was of appalling standard. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy, I was hoping for good pub grub, it was far from good! One of the worst plates of food I’ve ever had. I was hoping to put this place on my recommendation list for guests, it’ll be on the one to miss! What a disappointment.

A wonderful restaurant and bar. The kindly staff accommodated us at short notice. We were there early evening. The venue is beautifully decorated and light. The service was amazing. The staff are friendly but very professional. The food was incredible. Each of our party chose something different. Each plate was clean as a whistle on completion. We had the lemon chicken burger, chicken curry, mozzarella stack burger, scampi and mac and cheese with pork. The desserts were just as good - chocolate fudge cake, lemon meringue pie and sticky toffee pudding. Good sized portions. Excellent value for money. Wonderful, warm staff. We cannot recommend this amazing restaurant enough.

The staff and ambience were lovely however seriously let down by below average food Service a strong 8/10 Building and general character of the modernised building a solid 6/10 Quality of the food 3/10 Would I come back again No.

Food was amazing staff excellent ..best meal we had on our tour of Wales. Hot chocolate fudge cake with ice cream was to die for .

We visited here twice whilst staying nearby. The first reason for eating here was that dogs are allowed in the bar. On the first night I enjoyed the unusual combination of BBQ belly pork with Mac and cheese and garlic bread. Very good and filling! My wife enjoyed a pasta dish with a cream and garlic sauce. On our return visit we were advised that there was a quiet table in the corner of the restaurant which we could sit at with the dog. This time I enjoyed a cheeseburger while my wife enjoyed loaded fries. No room for desert again. The food was good and the staff friendly and efficient. We will be back. An added plus is the car park next door has free parking after 7pm.

Excellent food in general. I had some lovely garlic mushrooms to start followed by a meat pie with local vegetables - the pie was okay but could have been a bit tastier whilst the vegetables were delicious. Desert was lovely although they'd run out of white chocolate unfortunately. The staff were very friendly whilst the location and atmosphere was great.

Venue was decorated lovely, smaller space than expected. Staff were friendly, some very young staff, eager to learn and work but appeared to lack confidence and knowledge of the products for sale. Food was well presented and hot. Would have been nice to have been offered side plates as my partner and I shared a messy starter. Mac and cheese with belly pork was nice, well presented, personally I prefer it to be cheesier. Only 3 desert options which was a bit of a let down but over all a good little find and fairly central.

Our room was mostly clean but needed a deep clean. The road was noisy and the pub opposite was playing loud music. The bed was too hard for us. Breakfast was plentiful but low quality, our toast had a mould spot on it and the breakfast was very greasy. However, it was only £40 per person so can’t really complain. Evening meal was tasteless but hot and cheap. Pleasant staff. Wouldn’t return or recommend.

No awareness of what it is like to try and order with allergens, I didn't get a menu or to think about what I wanted with my family as the waitress just said when I asked about allergens she would ask the chef and disappeared. When they came to take our order I was still none the wiser what I could have so asked and she said you can just have curry or the jambalaya. I went for the curry, it was watery tomato soup with celery, carrot and onion and some chicken chunks.Others in the party enjoyed chicken and waffles and its clearly a signature dish, looked really good! But my sister had pie and it was not pleasant. The children had meatballs and again the sauce didn't coat the pasta and it was just tomato paste. When it was served a heavy hot plate and bowl was held over my nieces head! Its not the most awful place in the world but I'd describe it as immature. Under developed dishes and very basic service. The waitresses were pleasant and brought drinks quickly but didn't have knowledge, passion or make conversation. The prices are premium and whilst the ingredients seemed fresh it doesn't have the sophistication or flavour to back it up.

We booked in for a family of 4 Sunday lunch and were very pleased with the quality of the food, the options, the selections of veg and the price. The service was excellent.Later in the week we went back for an evening meal. Again the food was excellent; chips and onion rings are always a good yardstick to measure a restaurant by and they passed with flying colours. The kid's menu was very appropriate in price and content. I feel the adult meals are £1-£2 overpriced, but since the quality is excellent it is a minor quibble.

My husband managed to escape to West wales for a night before local lock downs kicked in. Wanting to explore St. Davids and visit Blue Lagoon we found the Rose & Crown a convenient and inexpensive place to book and stay.From the moment we arrived Covid-19 precautions were well in place. Our room was beautiful & clean, with large double bed, luxurious sofa and plush furniture. The bathroom was bright & spotless.We headed to the pub for a drink and look at their food menu. it was obviously a place the `locals' go to and this was confirmed by a couple we met who recommended we stayed and ate there. We weren't disappointed with the food which was well above other pub food we had eaten. The presentation of the food had also been considered.We sampled cocktails from the drinks menu which were spot on, made from scratch.Staff welcoming and friendly, and professionally when adhering to Covid-19 precautions throughout our stay. We will most certainly return when guidelines allow.

Called into this pub this morning to line our stomachs for the final day of our visit around Pembrokeshire!... amazing breakfast and really food service! Didn't get a chance to eat here during the evenings but the specials board looked good! Well reccommended!

Had a table of 6 for lunch food was lovely and service was good .we felt safe at all time as they had good covid 19 safety measures in place. The chef also adapted the garlic mushroom starter so it was vegan friendly .

Lovely gastro pub, mushroom starter was out of this world. Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Staff very attentive.

We were spending two nights in Goodwick so booked an evening meal here. The specials were lamb shank or mackerel. I had the lamb and my husband had the mackerel. Both were delicious meals. The lamb just fell off the bone and it was accompanied with creamy mashed potato....heavenly. There were two large mackerel served to my husband and no bones at all. Really good meal.

The Covid safety measures are good, the staff incredibly friendly and the food excellent. They went out of their way to accommodate my wife's cream allergy and, as a result, we had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxed meal. Thank you.

The place is spotless, the staff are helpful and friendly, the food is sublime and there take-aways are ready when they say they will be and in environmentally-responsible packaging. Fantastic.

We visited on 6th August. Food quality was superb. Beautiful home cooked food with fantastic gourmet burgers. The lasagne was one of the best I have ever had. Choice of desserts was limited but probably due to Covid-19 (limited menu). Very clean, tables were distanced and all staff were wearing masks which gave us confidence that everything was being done to reduce the risk of coronavirus. Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you

We have just returned from having a meal for 4 adults and 2 young children!!!! The food, service and draught beer were the best!.... go for the fish😉 I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly.

My wife and I visited on a storm filled evening in February The starter which included sea food and ham hock was excellent We both had the standard burger to follow which was very good and tasted homemadeFriendly service and comfortable surroundings. I would recommend a visit.

We visited here on wednesday 5th February, had a lovely meal ,the waitress was polite,helpful and very attentive went out of her way to help us have a lovely meal ,the cocktails were fantastic and great value 2 for £10 .highly recommended to anyone in the area .

My husband and me went here for a weekend break, for a treat after I had finished some medical treatment.This place was very nice.Staff very friendly and welcoming.Room was light and airy.Only lost one point because some dust, on bathroom radiator and behind tele, but I'm very fussy so don't let it put you off. I always take antibac wipes with me.On the whole it was clean. The breakfast was good and dinner at night excellent. We had garlic mushroom with poach egg on toasted muffin and it was the best tastiest starter we've ever had. Soooo delicious.. The chef is only 20 but definitely a rising star. I cannot emphasise enough how lovely, friendly and helpful the staff are.. It really makes a difference between a good stay and an excellent one. We slept really well too as the bed was comfy. As you probably guess I would recommend this place and would go back, definitely cheered winter up. Finally try and take the coast road as views beautiful.

Visited the Rose & Crown in December and had a warm welcome, great choice of beers and lagers. Food was lovely and staff very friendly.

We ate at The Rose and Crown after a recommendation from the owner of the establishment we were staying at, we were not disappointed! The food was amazing, quite possibly the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Quite a big statement I know! Garlic mushroom starter all washed down with a lovely pint of scrumpy. The staff were polite and extremely courteous throughout. You should all be very proud of yourselves, you are a credit to the place. Thankyou, and we will be back!

If you have a normal start time for your day, 9 am, for example, don't stay at the Rose & Crown. The do not serve breakfast before 9 am. I was in Fishguard for a morning meeting and only discovered my mistake when I arrived at the hotel. I asked if it was possible for an earlier start and was told that I could place my order at 8.55. I arrived for breakfast 5 minutes early (8.55) to be greeted by a quite surly person who made it clear that she would do nothing until 9. The breakfast was dreadful, a few small boxes of cereal, horrid over-sweet cheap orange juice and white sliced bread. The bread did not fit in the toaster, a toaster which had long past its useful date. The cooked breakfast was greasy and not very nice. It was the unpleasant member of staff that sticks in my mind. By contrast, the evening staff were a delight, so very friendly and helpful. I had a meal with three colleagues, everyone was very happy. An all round pleasant experience. So very sad about the morning.

We had a fantastic meal here and I can honestly say it was perfect in every way. The staff were so friendly and the fish curry with half and half was the best I've ever had. The other choices in our party were the Vegie chilly, Scampi and a super Burger. Thanks for a great night out.

On our holidays we prefer meals with local product's, so we ordered Welsh Beef Lasagne. The gentle staff brought it quick, not hurried. The taste was amazing. It was all in details that made it the best lasagne we ever tried. A touch of sun dried tomatoes (?), perfect balanced beef, a light cheesy top layer,... This was absolute the best dish of our 9 Wales/Scotland tours. Worth to visit again.

Spent a truly excellent night here, dinner and breakfast. My room was very clean and very well organized, good bed and pillows, nice bathroom. Diner was very tasty, and well presented by a thoughtful waitstaff. Breakfast was filling , with great coffee.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch of beef, with trimmings. It was....... ok, beef was a bit tough. Service was alright. The bar, pumps, weren’t working, so bottled beers only, of which choice was VERY limited. So, underwhelming really. Maybe ok in full season? Not an awful lot of choice in Goodwick itself, so wonder if they are, making the most of a possible opportunity.

Nice place, good atmosphere, but curry night was not as expected. It consisted of a salty mix of tomatoes with pre-cooked chicken pieces added. It was described as either Jalfrezi or Rogan Josh. Either way it was not curry. I did finish it though.

Good food, very friendly and professional service. A noisy bunch of lads came in towards the end of our meal, but they were pretty genial and didn't spoil things. A public car park with plenty of space is nearby. More than a pub, but not strictly a restaurant, it's a resto-pub!
