What a fantastic B&B. We stayed in room 4 which was lovely. The king-size bed was comfortable, the room lovely and clean with a large en suite. Free tea, coffee and bottled water with extras and fresh milk in a fridge in the small reception area. A smart TV with access to Netflix etc with your own sign in details. The friendly owners have thought of everything you could need and more. The breakfast choice was good, with everything from fruit, yoghurt, cereals, toast and plenty of cooked options. We also ate there in the evening, the portions were very generous and everything was cooked to perfection. It was so nice it was shame to have only being staying 1 night. We will definitely stay here again if/when in the Poole area.

Well, it’s been 14 hours since I ate and I can just about move now. It was quality. Tasty, filling and not shy on portions. One of those meals that you know after the second mouthful you’re going to struggle to finish it but you’ll graft through as it tastes so good. Not one criticism from any of us. We were all stuffed. Still had room for duff though and predictably that was awesome too. Top banana!!!

What can I say about this place, I’ll start with the negatives. 1. Don’t listen to the bad reviews on here, mistakes happen. 2. More sausages on the breakfast because I liked them. 3. It’s too far away to make it my local as it’s a friendly pub. 4. There’s only 4 rooms so you have to be quick to book them. Positives 1. Rooms are great, nice comfy bed, nice bathroom. 2. Friendly welcoming staff that made the stay even better. 3. Lovely evening meal with a great selection for all tastes. 4. Good location outside the hustle and bustle of a city. Seriously, this has been an absolute find and I’ve only stayed for one night on a business trip but it’s going to be one of my stop overs if I can get in every time I’m down this way. We visited the area for a 4 night break to celebrate our wedding anniversary and so glad that we decided to stay at The Rose and Crown at Lytchett Matravers, the room that we stayed in (number 3) was lovely with everything that you might need and the food in the pub below was gorgeous, we chose to eat here 3 nights out of the 4 and the lasagne was so good I had it twice. Heather and her staff were all very nice, polite and often asked if everything was ok. I only had one very minor gripe and that was the noise from the road in the morning when people would have been using it for their morning commute and although the balcony doors were double glazed they didn't seem to restrict as much noise as I would have expected. Having said that, I'm sure that we will be paying another visit in the future.

I stayed here for one night with my wife to get away from the kids . It is around 8 miles away from Poole. It was a difficult time for the pub - 50% off. They were full. We were advised that after 8 we could get food. We eventually received food after 9.30. The food was above average for pub grub. But that is not my observation from my visit. The rooms are newly built to a very high standard - you will not be disappointed! However the owners are pub managers and need to invest time to improve hospitality skills. This may not worry you so don't be put off.On the hottest day of the year, the room could have been aired a little. The entrance hall and room were like ovens - very unpleasant. There was a fan in the wardrobe which was not mentioned - we discovered it in desperation and it made the evening bareable. One bedside lamp was not working, there was a stain on the only easy chair in the room.Breakfast was good, poor chef was back in early after a late night. - note, if you are using small pots of jam, don't send half used pots out.Overall there was no warm welcoming charm, I felt that the rooms were an extra income (fabulous idea) built by a skilled builder, but that shouldn't be the end of it. Take thoughtful ownership of it, make it a wonderful place for people to visit - you will always be full.

It's not often one can find a pub that serves food and retains a local character. The Rose & Crown does just that. It has a decent number of restaurant tables that are a part of the pub. It's a good mix and contributes to the overall feel of the place.Sunday Roast,(beef for us both), in our opinion, is as good at gets. It is sensibly priced, of excellent quality with the quantities that allow for satisfaction and do not overwhelm. The vegetables were so well prepared and, crucially, the gravy was delicious. The Treacle Tart, (I'm old school) hit the spot, as did my wife's Pear & Ginger Sponge. The staff are friendly and welcoming.Worthy of a visit at any time.

Have just eaten one of the finest roast dinners I have ever had. A top notch home cooked meal that was excellent both in quality and portion size. Beautifully tender pork served with a huge array of vegetables of which the cauliflower cheese was the highlight. Add crunchy crackling, crispy potatoes and a fine gravy to the equation and I was one very happy man. The strawberry cheesecake that followed was divine too. Throw in the perfectly kept real ale and friendly and attentive staff and you have the end result of a memorable meal. Will definitely be visiting again.

Luckily my normal Premier Inn in Poole was full so I was forced to make a last minute reservation at the Rose & Crown for an overnight stay.I had an absolutely lovely room at the back of the pub, very clean, fresh looking and well equipped and away from any noise, although it was a quiet evening. The room had everything I needed and there was even a Nespresso machine, although no pods in the room although no doubt had I asked for them, as i did for fresh milk, they would have been provided with a smile. The bed allowed for a good sleep and the shower was powerful and hot, what more is required? The bar was busy for an hour or 2, clearly used and enjoyed by the locals-lucky people. Ales were varied and well served from a small range of breweries at at the special January sale price as well, my luck on having the Premier Inn full up was getting better and better. The landlord was engaged with his punters, including me, and the whole evening was a pleasant experience. The barmaid warned me that they had a large party in for a meal but to save me waiting took my order first, how good is that? The meal was good, sorry I can't remember exactly what I had now but i did enjoy it.Breakfast was freshly cooked, I opted for a light version and enjoyed it, so much better than heatlamps and buffet breakfasts.I get down to the Poole area on occasions and will always try to book in here first, although with only 4 rooms I'll have to be quick.

I rarely, if ever, drank in here when the pub was run by Hall & Woodhouse, but this place has been entirely transformed since becoming a freehouse and I now always endeavour to pop in whenever I'm back in the village. They always have three or four ales on, with Doom Bar a permanent fixture and a selection of rotating guest ales on the remaining pumps, always in tip-top condition. They've retained the separate public and lounge bars that I remember from my youth and there's a decent sized restaurant space down the far end, which I believe now has a number of rooms above it, which is great for a village low on accommodation options. The staff are always very friendly and there's usually a fair few locals in, ensuring a good atmosphere. If they'd bring back the annual beer festival, it would be ticking pretty much all of the boxes for me! Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Beds were so comfortable and shower had loads of room. Newly done too as we found out later. Was a joy to stay in. The food was lovely and same for all the staff and they were on point with everything. we all had steak and it was cooked to perfection just like the rest of the meal for dinner and Food arrived in good time too. Visited whilst in the area on holiday, we ordered Steak and ale pie £13.95 and beef chili £11.95 and a Cheesecake at £ 5.95. The meals were nice but a little bit expensive. A good selection of ales, not too expensive.

In the past had very good food here, but my last meal was very poor. You now have to order your food at the bar which in itself was difficult as there was only one bar maid on and all the bar stools were occupied so hard to catch the attention of said bar maid.

This a surprise find. Bedrooms newly decorated in style. This B&B; combines A village pub and smooth class. Rooms are easily comparable with more up market hotels. Healthy well cooked food, like the Family that run it, understated quality = relaxing stay . We had time to kill with our Grand children whilst waiting for their Dad. We were all made welcome so boys were able to relax after long journey. comfort seating which is often lacking in smaller establishment and in my book a must for instant comfort

Came here as they have some great live music on every now and then, been here a few times and have seen some really good performances from local bands that have put on a great show. Unfortunately tho this night there was a 2 woman act called Ritzy Chix? I was really disappointed as everyone else they have had there was able to sing. This act tho I’d only recommend to people I don’t like. Great pub with a lovely atmosphere and lovely food, in a very beautiful part of the world.

We have just came back from a three night stay at this homely pub. This pub has recently had an extension and no expense was spared. We stayed in the double bedroom which I can describe as good as a four star bedroom.

We were staying at a local campsite and all other places were fully booked on a Monday night. We found this on the internet and were surprised to get a table for 6 with an hours notice.

I was staying in the village for two nights, and visited the pub for a pint, whilst waiting for my friend to arrive at our accommodation. The pub was quiet, apart from what appeared to be regulars surrounding the bar. Everyone stared as I tried to catch the attention of the staff behind the bar, and made no attempt to move when I attempted to see which real ales were available. The bar staff were of few words, but served me promptly. The beer was very good, and I sat around the other side of the bar. I eventually drank up, and left when two more regulars sat opposite, and attempted to make me feel uncomfortable. Given the unfriendly nature, perhaps the pub should be renamed 'Rose & Frown'.

Just had a lovely lunch at the Rose and Crown. A treat from our daughter. Varied menu with a few different choices, like the chocolate and pear dessert. So delicious and was homemade too.

A lovely family pub, nice atmosphere, warm and in a good location. Food is lovely and prices are reasonable. A bowl of chips is £2.75 and there were so many I couldn’t even finish them. Staff are polite and friendly. Dogs are welcome.

The food was as stated very good, although not particularly inexpensive, but the beer was variable, one good the other not. So beware.

Reasonable selection of real ales but no bottled beers, so can't do old fashioned beer mixing. (Brown & mild - light & bitter - stout & cider etc). Meals are good too.

Nice little pub with outside seating. Food is fine but as I say a little over priced for what it is. They forgot to bring the bread with the prawn cocktail but apologised. The steak came with what you would expect and was cooked to our requirements.

Food brought outside to the table by polite barman with required cutlery and asked if we needed anything else. Veg seemed fresh not microwaved. Cottage pie seemed homemade as well.

We discovered the Rose and Crown totally by chance. We were having a bad day having gone to try an Italian Restaurant in Broadstone for the first time but they did not open for some reason and Broadstone is not an area we know very well so we were left floundering. We stopped at a pub we found up the road in Corfe Mullen but did not like the look of it much and so we headed to a pub in Lychett Matravers we had been to a couple of time is the past only to be told they do not do food on Monday's and Tuesday's! Fed up having not fed we decided to head home for a snack and to try again in the evening. I stopped to let a car turn across in front of me and noticed the Rose and Crown just ahead of us. We decided on one more try.

Perhaps we should have gone to The Chequers, having followed their signs from the main road we stopped in here hoping for lunch but they don't do food at lunchtime. They do decent beer and seem popular with the locals as there were quite a few people in on a Saturday lunchtime. The television was on constantly as it is in a lot of pubs these days but if you wanted a quick drink its good enough.
