What to say, the food was delicious and well cooked, you can see why this place wins awards! (and generous portions too). Service staff were excellent. I’ve booked some duff restaurants for my wife’s birthday in the past, but this one was a success.

Following a 12km hike we enjoyed family Sunday meals which ,for the team led by Claire , were remarkable served cheerfully in blussful surroundings. Abbot ale, Thatchers & Saxbys cider . Treats & water for our sprocker, George. Our sincere thanks for effortless quality of meals & service with a smile from Jo.

I've been to this pub on a few occasions. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances I had to cancel a booking.(well within a 48h period) I've now been blocked so I can't book another table. I understand that times are hard, but I think the notice I gave was reasonable. Happy to take my business elsewhere and obviously stop recommending you to my clients.

A nice lunch on a Tuesday. My partner and I had walked over from Earls Barton. We were greeted by Jo and Elizabeth. Both friendly and welcoming. Service was excellent, food was so tasty. We ordered the Asian salad and homemade chilli con carne. I followed up with a work of art pudding.. Baklava cheesecake which is something Brooke in the kitchen made. Wow is the only word I could use to sum it up. Keep up the great work team. Gemma and Tim.

Huge disappointment, long wait between starter and main both tables next to us had both finished their mains/puddings before we received our main, the starters were pate (can’t really do this one wrong) and devilled kidneys, the sauce was lovely but the kidney was slightly undercooked. When the mains did arrive the carbonara looked like it had been heated in the microwave as it was gloopy and surrounded by oil, the pasta was over cooked to the point it didn't even need to be cut, (there certainly was no swirling round the fork needed) the sauce was bland as was the chicken which had no flavour or colour, topped with a sprinkle of cold tempura courgette, huge disappointment and was inedible. The other main lamb rump came with dauphinoise potatoes that were much hotter than anything else on the plate (again clearly microwaved), the purple sprouting broccoli was woody and the ends had not been cut (looked like they had been snapped). The lamb tasted fine but was overcooked. When these issues were raised with staff, they were defensive/bordering on rude, a bit of face pulling etc They did remove the pasta main from the bill and offered a half hearted apology. I understand this is not fine dining, however all in all the food and service was poor and staff didn’t seem that bothered. Will not return and definitely do not recommend.

Visited on Mothering Sunday which was fully booked, and had a wonderful time. Service is consistently excellent, food is also fantastic - matched up to high standards set by our previous visit even when as busy as this. One of the best pub roasts, selection of real ale is also excellent, and think the pricing is extremely good value for levels of this quality.

14 family members including a baby attended the venue for a Sunday Lunch. We booked in advance and everything was in place on our arrival. A mixture of dinner options was available including options from the children’s menu. Everybody enjoyed their chosen option, the food was served timely and was well presented. Personally I had the Roast Beef which was excellent. The desert menu was also a hit with everyone. Price wise the food was very competitive and of good value. The staff were excellent and the venue was very clean. I would highly recommend & the perfect Sunday Lunch.

Lets me start with the positive: the surroundings are lovely and spacious: the service is first class. Unfortunately the food (which is the central issue in a restaurant) was lacking. The chicken portion served for Sunday lunch was very very small even for my wife who is a small eater. The red cabbage was well undercooked not having softened and the rich taste developed. The Mediterranean Croquettes were spiced mash potato in breadcrumbs. The outer breadcrumbs was not cooked enough and hence the whole thing was sloppy rather than being crispy. In contrast the Sticky Toffee pudding was lovely. All in all adequate but not worth rushing back for.

Not local to the area, we stopped off at the Rose and Crown for lunch, and we were not disappointed. We had not booked but were lucky to be seated at the last available table (we arrived around 2.00 pm). I had the Brie and cherry tomato pasta with tempura veg and it was absolutely amazing. Hubby had the homemade steak and Stilton pie which did not skimp on the steak; he said it was the tastiest he’d had. All the staff couldn’t be more helpful; attentive but not overbearing, ensuring you had a drink when needed. We will definitely make the journey to visit again (although we’ll make sure we book). Unusual to find a place that ticked all the boxes but this definitely did! Can’t wait to return!

Lovely festive menu lunch - 6 of us & all absolutely enjoyed a variety of dishes - ox cheek amazing & apparently so was the sea bass. If there was the slightest little niggle, the plates were cold, hence the meals weren't very warm, but we find this to be the case in lots of places. Couldn't fault the staff, Jo & Evie very pleasant & attentive but not over the top! Thank you all for a very good experience.

So disappointing, unfortunately the restaurant was freezing, its December and there was no heating on, i had to put my coat back on. The food was cold and it was obvious that the plates were not hot. The steak was so chewy and even after letting the staff know, nothing was done at the time. Over priced for a cold restaurant and cold poor quality food.

The food was prepared & presented nicely. Tasty too. The disappointment was it was cold in the restaurant! We asked for the radiators to be put on but we were told (quite curtly) the heating was timed & wouldn’t come on until 10pm!! Everyone around us sat with coats on trying to eat their food, which was unacceptable! Advice would be wrap up before you go!!

We honestly had one of the best Sunday Roast’s we have had in ages! We visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon, we received a warm welcome, as did the dog. We booked a table the day before, as we wanted to bring the dog so wanted to make sure we were able to get a table. We all had a starter and then a roast dinner. The roast was amazing; all the elements were perfect & the meat was lovely. I had the trio of meats as I wanted to try a bit of everything, and I can’t decide which one was best as each one was lovely. Would also recommend getting the cauliflower cheese on the side as this went down very well with us all. We will definitely be going back, already trying to arrange a date that works for us and the family!

This was the first time for some long time I had been to the Rose & Crown at Yardley Hastings. This was for lunch for a friend's Birthday. It was refreshing to have charming, polite service and in a bistro/pub setting which was spotlessly clean. The menu was highly imaginative but at realistic prices. The result was quality flavoursome food. The only down side was the fact that both of us found the portion sizes challenging ! Wine & Drinks and Starter and Dessert prices were all as compatible as the rest of the menus. Both my friend and I will definitely be returning and we would recommend anyone who enjoys really good food at good prices to come too.

This was our first time visiting the Rose & Crown and it exceeded all expectations. The food was superb and the service excellent. I started with Devilled kidneys, the most mouth watering mustard sauce. This was followed by Seafood Ramon. An excellent combination of seafood and Asian vegetables. Desert was Baclava with blueberries. A first rate experience and one we will repeat soon. Booking is essential.

Called in just over a week ago and was advised by a member of staff that they do pizza every Friday - they even gave us a pizza menu to look at. Have spent all week anticipating a pizza and being careful what I eat so I could indulge, and when I arrived was offered a burger - might as well have offered me a cup of cold sick. Yes there is a nice atmosphere, and is popular, but I feel let down, and wondering do the staff have a clue what they are doing.

Unfortunately i think our order was forgotten 3 couples arrived after us and got their food before us, when we enquired we were told they were having fish and chips which was easier than our order! We ordered starters and mains and would have ordered wine and desserts but after 40 mins and not even approached by waiting staff to reassure us food was on way we decided to leave. We were very very disappointed as we have eaten there before and the food is excellent. Im hoping that if we book again the service will be better. A phone call from them the following day would have been a nice touch to apologise, that would have repaired the disappointment. I would still recommend the rose and crown but a little cautiously.

Lovely pub - fab garden for summer. Young staff friendly and keen - older staff apathetic and argumentative.First meal here via COVID restrictions - stoked st table - constantly hassled to order - even to the extent of being told we had a “time slot” that the kitchen could accommodate (are you forgetting that we are the customers ? - !!!) - poor nibbles - four small slices of a loaf of bread with oil and balsamic - really poor. Scallop started tasted good apart from should have been three scallops and we had two and a tiny one (queried when placed down - with no response ) - the when asked if evening was alright I again queried both the quantity and quality - to which the response was “that’s how they come” - I suggested that the chef should not sent a plate with a poor quality and inconsistent product out and this really shouldn’t have left the kitchen. The waitress said she would talk to the chef - came back and apologies ( but still reiterated that is wants their fault it was how thaeybgot them and they have to make a profit ! - a profit at the customers expense !!!!))).The rest of the food was acceptable if rather mediocre - I guess people are happy with whatever is put in front of them in these times.Scallops weren’t taken off the bill and frankly I could be bothered to argue - please don’t ask for a customers opinion on the food if you are going to argue and ignore it - total waste of time and frustrating for both parties.Just disappointing experience all round !

We have been to the Rose and Crown many times before lockdown, but this was our first visit since eating outdoors has been permitted. It was our Wedding Anniversary and we chose to go for a late lunch as the weather was a bit doubtful, and we thought it would be warmer than in the evening. The Restaurant has really thought things through to make it the best possible experience. We were seated under the stretch canopy right next to the outdoor heater which was giving off plenty of warmth. The 3 course menu that we chose from was up to their usual high standard, with good traditional food and imaginative specials. I went for the Chorizo and Squid Risotto to start and my H chose Brixworth Pate. The risotto was very flavoursome, and the pate which is a great local favourite was served with enough toast. Our main courses were also delicious. H selected a beef and ale pie, which can often be nothing more than a beef casserole with a block of puff pastry balanced on it at the last minute, but in this case, was a wedge from a full sized pie and a generous one too. I selected the Hake, with crispy bacon and vegetables, both our dishes having creamy mash included. As it was a special occasion, puddings were de rigeur, so I chose the lemon and lime creme brulee, which had the correct crisp top and H went for two flavours of ice cream. All in all it was a delicious meal.As all the dishes are prepared to order, we expected a wait, but this was kept to a minimum and the staff were attentive, efficient and friendly.I recommend that you dress warmly but with the heaters in place it was only really cold around the feet, so bear that in mind while the weather remans chilly.

The November lockdown may mean that the usual dining in is not an option, but the Rose and Crown team have risen to the occasion by offering a take away service on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday daytime. Depending on which day you choose, there are different options - Friday is for take away pizzas; Saturday is a choice of pies (steak & ale or vegetarian) or fish and chips (including a vegetarian alternative); and Sunday is a choice of roasts. We ordered fish and chips for Saturday evening and were given a timed slot. The pick up couldn’t have been easier - a warm welcome from the team and simple contactless payment. The food was served almost instantly and was still piping hot when I got it home. The fish and chips tasted divine and came with minted peas and real tartare sauce (not in a packet). We could also order sticky toffee pudding, a cheese board and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It was a real great experience and we were very happy to support this wonderful little pub. We can’t wait to be able to dine in as normal, but in the meantime, I strongly recommend this option.

The waitress leaned closer than we have been to family and she handled the cutlery !After 50 minutes our food was brought, we were the only 2 people waiting for meals. My husband’s Caesar salad was fine but my fillet steak was appalling. All sinew , like trying to cut and eat a rubber band! The first excuse was because I ordered it cooked medium/well the chef used the sinew end of the fillet! The second excuse was they have changed suppliers to use local beef! The steak was taken off the bill but a special day ruined.I’m afraid we will not rush to return.

The menu has vegan and gluten free options with vegan cheese available so we ordered a few between us. Reasonably priced at 7.50 each. They were the best we've had . The vegan cheese they use mealts really well and with some of the home made chilli oil on top was great . They still have a regular menu but the pizzas are a good addition . Particularly in the garden that is spacious enough to allow relaxed social distancing.

Having had a good meal here last summer we chose to go back for a family birthday but wished we hadn’t bothered as the food was certainly not of the standard we’d had before. The mussel starter was a strange concoction served in a tall glass with no mussels in their shells and was accompanied by stale bread. The lamb main looked so unappetising when it arrived - a plate full of brown/black food with no colour to it and a very small portion of lamb which was over cooked. The vegetarian mushroom dish was similarly unappealing and tasted so bland I couldn’t eat it. Both mains were served with burnt/reheated potatoes. We were offered replacement meals but our evening had been ruined and we just wanted to leave.

Parents and brother all had bad stomachs after eating the mussels starter. The lamb dish wasn’t worth the money, the beef stroganoff was tough as old boots and the duck was chewy. My partner and myself both had pies which were lovely so good and bad at this restaurant but we won’t be returning. We sent an email to the pub but not had a reply how rude. The waiting staff are very nice.

Having eaten in many of the counties pub restaurants, I can honestly say that my family and my experience at The Rose and Crown Bistro at lunchtime today was as good as food gets.Everything was sublime, lovely friendly young staff who were extremely attentive, prompt service, a decent range of guest ales and the pub was not too shabby either. As for our food, I had the fillet steak with proper chips which was accompanied by a large flat mushroom and a tomato.Peppercorn sauce was also added. My wife had the beef shin with mash and vegetables and my daughter enjoyed the cheese burger with bacon with chips and a large side salad. We had a few nibbly dishes of onion rings and spring rolls with bread ( which was the only let down as it was very dry).I had a couple of pints of guest ale whilst the other 2 had a few pints of coke each.My steak was ordered medium rare and that is exactly what I received, beautiful and it fell apart. My wife really enjoyed her beef shin but thought it needed a little more sauce as it was slightly on the dry side.My daughter finished her burger and both herself and I thought it good to receive chips that were chips. The spring rolls were outstanding and packed full of flavour too.The restaurant area had character, beams and exposed brickwork and the bar area which is dog friendly was a great place to socialise too.Our meal totalled £85 plus a tip for outstanding service.I am always quick to compliment good food but this was outstanding and I will be returning. Visited 15th February 2020.A large car park is situated to the rear and booking is advised (we walked in at 12pm and were lucky)as the place became very busy.

One of our favourite local places to eat. Always a good meal in a lovely village pub. Ate here in large family group before Christmas and with large friend group recently. No issues with the service or food. Everything was just great.

We booked for Sunday lunch and arrived on a chilly but bright day to the warm and cosy Rose and Crown. We opted just for a main course each- me choosing sliced, roast lamb served with duck fat, roast potatoes, roast parsnips , cabbage and sliced carrots with a huge Yorkshire Pud and side of gravy. My hubby opted for the roast beef. The meat was tender and plentiful. We were eating around 3 o'clock and 10 people came in for meals so it is popular and busy-a good sign in my book. We finished off with 2 coffees having had a pint of bitter and a white wine Spritzer with the meal. Service was very good, great ambience, comfortable surroundings and reasonable prices.Total cost £41.50. So we left feeling very satisfied and very relaxed.Perfect.

Over previous years we have gone to restaurants which were part of a chain and been disappointed with menu on offer, the bad service and slow presentation of the food. This year, 12 of us, went to the Rose and Crown in Yardley Hastings. Whow what a difference. Presentation of building, Reception, Menu, Service, Care, Quality of food (couldn't have been better) so much so that we have already booked up for Great Grandma's birthday for Next year. Can only recommend it second to none!! You wont be disappointed. All 12 of us weren't and to a person thumbs up all round with big big smiles.

Hadn't planned it but we decided last minute to have dinner here on Monday night, having noticed they now have a plant based burger on the menu. I had the tofish (tofu wrapped in sea weed then beer battered ) with home cut chips peas and vegan tartare sauce and my wife had the vegan burger with plant based cheese and vegan mayo . Again with home cut chips . We even shared a portion of the tofu and quinoa seaweed wraps with a dipping sauce. All was superb. With some decent wine . Has to be the best place to eat bar none . All diets seem to be accommodated. Which is good mixed groups or anyone looking to try something different .

A wonderful old pub with buckets of character. Sat out in the glorious evening sunshine in the pub garden until our table was ready. There was 4 of us and we had a round table which was perfect to chat. The food was fabulous and we all enjoyed our meal choices. Attentive waiting staff who appeared just at the right time. All in all a very pleasant experience and would definitely recommend.

Consistently good food and friendly service. The menu changes regularly so is never boring. I’m vegan and often find pub menus lacking in imagination, but not here!

Dropped in for a quiet afternoon half, which then turned into dinner (especially as we could smell the kitchen warming up for evening service). I ordered starter to come with my main, since my compatriot was not having one, which was no problem at all. The sweet potato fries were perfectly done (with skin on!) and came with a banging, slightly spicy, guacamole. The fish & chips were done with very crispy batter - no sogginess at all, and the chips were hand cut, skin-on, and perfectly cooked. The vegan "tofish" (tofu, wrapped in seaweed and then beer-battered) was an excellent substitute. If I could find one fault, it would be that the tofu could do with a touch more seasoning (but couldn't it always?). Both dishes came with a wee portion of fresh peas (perhaps not in the ideal container, being a measuring cup, but the presentation was cute nonetheless). The tofish came with some tartare sauce, but the main fish did not. Asking for it bore no extra cost, however.

Although the R&C; is a few miles from the town it is easily accessible down the A428, and it is a lovely country pub that has not lost its identity, because the bistro restaurant is largely separate from the bar area. I love having a ride out on my motorcycle because the staff are so welcoming and the bar prices are extremely reasonable - even more so if you are a member of CAMRA. Dogs are welcome, and usually are the star attraction as they ARE the locals and so well behaved. The food smells wonderful, and although I have not eaten recently in the restaurant, the bar snacks that we have had are different and delicious. Try this place, I challenge you not too feel massively tempted to indulge yourselves!

The mains came out and they were child portions, I was waiting on the veggies that used to follow; this never came. There was a garnish of some weird leaves on too: I had to ask what it was, turned out to be carrot tops, odd as there was no carrots on the plate . The bistro seams to have gone mad . It may have been enough if you had a starter and sweet but value for money has gone! Must be with the carrots.

Our group came from a range of directions and this was recommended as a central point. Initial impressions were good on our early arrival - range of available drinks, service efficiency, and the ambience of the room. It became apparent though that the number of tables close together meant it would get really noisy, which it did. All starters were fine, and most of the mains although the contents of the pie were overcooked, and the pastry a very dark brown - an extra pot of gravy provided with it maybe showed the kitchen was aware when they sent it out. The desserts were a mixed bag, with sorbets and a walnut studded chocolate parfait very good. The Eton Mess was exceptionally poor - £6 for a small portion of cream with a few strawberries and sauce, topped with what had the appearance of a small shop bought meringue nest broken into three pieces. All in all, not a place we'll be returning to

We must have had a bad day at this place. We have been before and it was great, but yesterday was not good. The staff were great, but the food was not. First of all my husband got the wrong food. They offered to replace it at once and brought him some chips which he wanted instead of mash. I chose a Niçoise salad. The tuns was totally overdone and dry. Whoever made up the salad put what seemed like a whole jar of olives on it. I did point it out to the waitress who agreed that she had not seen it with so many olives before. Overall a disappointing lunch. We will not hurry back.

Met up with friends at this friendly bistro, good choice of food, the Brixworth patti was wonderful, our friends were slightly disappointed as there was no steak on that night, but it was a Sunday, and we all found a good alternative, my wife had the devil's kidneys, supurb, our friends went for the roast beef, they cleared the plates, well priced, friendly staff, will return for the steaks

Had a lovely evening meal in this beautiful village restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly and the décor is very tastefully done. Met the friends there and had some drinks outside on the beautiful terrace before going in. Have to admit from the start that we all love this place. Low beamed, welcoming and excellent service. The lunch time menu is impressive, not huge but interesting. We all made different choices and declared them excellent. I opted for the Wild Mushroom and Blue Cheese Ravioli while my partner had the Steak and Stilton Pie. Prices are competitive but excellent value. Don't drive passed this Bistro if you are in the area

Dreadful. The man who served us was rude, impatient and obnoxious. Most ordered Sunday Roast and said the beef was tough. Never again

We visit The Wharf fairly regularly but our last visit was sadly under par. Food was only just warm, Yorkshires cold and over cooked. Service was dreadful - had to go to bar to ask staff to clear table, order desserts & coffee because they’d forgotten to come back to take order. Coffee served in cup (no saucers) and asked for sugar which never arrived. Unlikely to visit again; shame because it was one of our favourites for Sunday lunch

Dan was really lovely and very helpful with service. Food came quickly and drinks were great. Dan also suggested some alcohol free options for my pregnant partner which she loved!
