The pub's own description is spot on - it is a hidden gem. Popped in at random after a visit to Upton House a few miles away. Lovely pub in a beautiful location with a very friendly landlady. The only bad thing is that I live too far away to visit on a busy weekend evening, as it looks like it would have a great atmosphere.

I was told there was this really old pub by a member of the Solihull Cycling Club who used to visit this area. What a fabulous village to see in bloom at this time of year and not a sound, apart from the birds. Stunning interior of the pub and a fine selection of Hook Norton ales. Apparently under new local ownership I wish them well and especially if they can sustain a regular kitchen and staff. Come on people in the area - support this gem - by spreading the word.

New ownership a game changer. We recently dined at Ratley’s village pub now managed by Lou and Basil. They've revitalised the place, maintaining rustic charm while injecting fresh energy. The menu showcases well-cooked pub classics – I enjoyed a fantastic burger, and my husband tried a duck version of shepherd’s pie! The cosy atmosphere with roaring fires adds to the charm, complemented by a well-curated beer selection. Whether it's a casual drink with friends or a hearty meal, Lou and Basil's commitment to great food and warm service shines through. We are excited to see where they take this village gem. Cheers to a fantastic start at our revamped local pub!

We dropped in on a Saturday night at about 8pm to find an empty pub. The gas had gone off apparently and the chef wanted to go home. They had no crisps or snacks either. Odd reception. This has been a favourite for 30 years regardless of owner. We went however for a drink over the weekend (having been disappointed some months before hand when we ate and hoping it had improved…. a second chance)but were met outside with a broken bench, ashtray with piled up cigarettes 🚬 obviously not emptied for days; fake dirty roses outside attached to trellis . It looked sad and unkempt. Opening the door it looked grubby with no people inside. We left and went to a similar village pub just five minutes away packed with people, full of atmosphere, looking loved and welcoming too from the outside. I think that says it all. It’s so sad.

Looking for a dog friendly pub to stop at for lunch, I found the Rose & Crown…WHAT A FIND! It’s well hidden, off the beaten track, but if you’re in the area, you must stop by. Easy to book online prior to our visit. On what turned out to be the hottest day of the year, walking inside, we stepped back in time to a cosy, cool and very friendly atmosphere with log fired aroma lingering from cold nights gone by. I can only imagine the history and stories told in this place. My wife had a steak - perfectly cooked! I had a burger - quite simply the best burger I’ve ever had…and I have had my fair share of pub/restaurant/fast food chain burgers over the last 30yrs or so. Both dishes were accompanied with chips…stunning, crispy, rustic - skin on chips! In terms of drinks, I asked for a pale ale and went along with the recommendation by the bar man. A hand pulled, local ale which was absolutely delicious. My wife had 1/2pt of coke, which at nearly £4, was the only negative of what was otherwise a perfect lunch. Our dog felt at home and settled well during the meal, plenty of water available for him as well. I can’t comment on the outside, as we stayed inside. In summary, £40 ish for an amazing meal for two, I’d say is an absolute bargain considering the quality and the experience in an beautiful little village. This was the perfect start to our weekend away! I would definitely recommend and we will definitely return when we’re next passing.

We were so looking forward to visiting The Rose and Crown for our anniversary meal and after reading the great reviews it made us even more excited! However, we were so disappointed. It was a lovely summers evening so thought we would eat outside. The glass tables outside were filthy, they clearly hadn’t seen a cloth for a while. The waitress was new and didn’t seem to have had much training, the guy on the bar was unorganised and flappy. The kitchen didn’t seem to get any of the orders right. A table next to us had wine served with no coolers and were given dirty glasses. There were flies everywhere (probably due to the weather) but it just made us feel funny!! We went for 2 pizza and chips. The chips came 10 mins after the pizzas. My pizza came and the cheese was burnt (dark brown). The guy did replace it but by that time my husband had finished his. The pizzas were not flash, the sauce tasted as if it were out of a jar. The guy didn’t charge us for my pizza. It was a nice touch but we left there feeling so disappointed, it was supposed to be a special meal and we just couldn’t wait to leave. Lots of things to improve on, but simple things. Hopefully mistakes are learnt from.

Went for a meal with colleagues to catch up and we chose to visit as we'd heard good reviews and so glad we did. It is a compact menu but certainly has enough choice and feels like they are doing a core menu but doing it very well indeed. I had the king prawn starter followed by the venison ragu linguine - both absolutely delicious and good portion sizes. I have to be honest - I couldn't finish my main - I'd have gone pop! Next time I'm going to go Main And Dessert as the puddings going to other tables looked gorgeous but I simply had no space. I'd highly recommend and I'll be back again soon.

Very nice atmosphere helped by the resident dog in situ. Wonderful oak timbers and fireplaces. Can’t wait to visit on a cold winters day with the fires going! Loved visiting whilst on a camping trip! We managed to get a seat outside in the sun, and all loved the outside area as much as the cosy, English pub vibe inside. Can't fault the food, drinks or service - just hoped for a bit more choice on the menu. What we did have was great though. Tried to get in contact with the pub to order some of the chocolate they sell on the bar, but didn't get a response using the email address saved on Google - maybe something to bear in mind if you're wanting to discuss something before visiting.

We've been here on and off in the past, was in the area so thought we would try it for lunch. The menu was small, not very extensive. My wife had the fish platter with an additional side of chips and I had the sausages and mash. And both were very tasty. There was plenty of fish and it looked like it was home battered. The bowl of chips (skin on) was very tasty and very large! My 3 sausages and mash was just how I like it with a smooth onion gravy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu could probably do with expanding a bit and maybe also have a sandwich or similar option at lunchtime.

We’d read positive reviews of this place so we’re looking forward to it. We also read about a change of management - and unfortunately the dining experience with the new « proper pub food » menu proved to be disappointing. We both ordered a pie with chips peas and gravy. Whilst the pie itself was ok (defrosted & bought in - and really lacking much meat inside, but at least it tasted ok), the accompanying chips were clearly again frozen, and weren’t properly cooked. Worst of all was a full boat of the most watery tasteless gravy. The two waitresses were however very nice and friendly - it’s just a real shame about the food. With so many good alternatives in this area, I don’t see this place surviving long - Sadly, as it’s a gorgeous pub.

An amazing restaurant in the heart of Stratford! We had the 7 course tasting menu and would definitely come back and try again. One course slightly let it down - we weren't convinced by the combination of lamb & anchovy and the lamb itself was rump so a bit fatty, but I suppose that is personal preference so not a reason to not return. The service was exceptional, could not fault the front of house one bit - very friendly, funny & attentive!

Had a two night stay at this little gem, the rooms are situated in an old listed building but are modern and spacious, the bathroom being huge with tub big enough for two, if you book direct with the hotel you get a wonderful breakfast included in room rate, we also had dinner here, small menu done perfectly and great cocktails, would I stay here again? In a heart beat. Also staff were lovely 10/10 My only suggestion would be to have a topper on bed as it was quite firm, but that’s personal preference.
