Ros Thai in Brighton and Hove

Ordered on a Saturday night for takeaway. Chefs choice = cheapest options. Don't bother at all! All of it was shockingly bad for the price we paid!! No flavour, stodgey, soggy. Awful. May be better on a quieter night or in restaurant but can't comment.

Fantastic meal at a fantastic restaurant. The service was attentive and nothing was any trouble. The food was great, as always- try the Thai fish cakes which are fabulous. Always made to feel welcome, as if we are family by the staff. An authentic Thai experience, which I would recommend to anyone.

This place seems to get bad reviews due to the staff, but when we went in the man and the woman were very friendly, I got a very different experience to what it says in here. The man was telling us all about Thailand with some very funny stories. The food was also really good and cheaper than loads of other Thai places now

The owner of this restaurant is shockingly rude. If rudeness was a mountain she would be called Everest. I was there for my birthday and she had a scowl on her face the whole time. She visually showed her contempt for myself and the table the whole time we were there. She looked angry to serve us, tutted, obnoxiously scowled at my friend when she asked questions about the menu, and even told me that she found my accent irritating! It would have been comedic if I hadn't been paying for the 'pleasure'. Seriously this woman has serious anger issues and needs customer service training, ASAP. The place is small, dirty, has no atmosphere. Go if you fancy paying to be insulted. Worst thai restaurant I've ever been to!

Low-quality frozen food, made with cheap ingredients. Just horrible imho. I would give it zero stars if I could!

It’s true. This woman is rude. Rude rude. Did I mension she is rude? She made us feel uncomfortable whole time we were there, sighing, huffing, wincing, dirty looks but smiling at other people, adjusting chair behind us, even sniggering. Yes my friend talks loudly, he could have had a learning difficulty for all she knows. Actually it was his birthday and we were just having fun. Resturant is like a wake. Quiet. No music. Void of atmosphere. Pretty plates and reasonable food but I wouldn’t spend my hard earn cash on going back there. Honestly it is shocking

The woman who runs this place is the RUDEST most UNFRIENDLY person you could ever meet. I went for my birthday and I couldn't believe how horrible she was! She was openly racist and said my Irish accent was 'too loud' and 'it was annoying her' The extent of her rudeness was so ridiculous it was almost amusing. I will NEVER put money into this establishment again. A terrible experience. She needs to do a customer service course! AWFUL PLACE

I met my friend here before going to see a play in Rottingdean. As we were limited on time we asked to have our starter and main served at the same time only to be laughed at by our waitress who I am guessing was the owner. I asked her what was so funny and she laughed even harder. This seems to be a common theme after reading other reviews. She then started shouting at a customer down the phone so the entire restaurant could hear her which added to the already toxic atmosphere. It didn't stop there however and when we asked for the bill she did the hand gesture of shoo! I'm busy! Perhaps she needs a wake up call about how eating out now is a real treat for a lot of people who work hard to make a living. I for one won't be spending my hard earned money here again .As for leaving a tip, now that was something to laugh about.

Lovely little Thai restaurant. Excellent menu and food doesn't disappoint. The service is great and the lady with the tea trolley is amazing!

I have been ordering food from Ros Thai on 4 different occasions. The food was always good until our last order. That night after our food I had sever vomiting and a fever for 2 days. I believe I got food poisoning. Friends who had the same dishes as I also came down with similar symptoms.

Lovely food - best Thai food we have had in a long time. Especially the fried cod and coconut rice. Banana fritters were the best ever!

INTIMIDATING CUSTOMER SERVICE 1) Food – comparing to other Thai places in Brighton, way below, usually delicious, unique Thai flavours. 2) Customer service – that is a huge red card. I can`t express how intimidating it was, to see that woman starring at us every so often. On top of that, I slightly changed my side of table cutlery/napkins location and believe or not, when she came, she literally without any hesitation, just put everything back as it was prepared by her! 3) Interior – the only good part of this place I guess. Clean, very cosy, relaxing and taking you for a little while to Thailand. 4) Price – reasonably priced menu, but for the meals quality we have received, that was really the maximum they can expect someone to pay. Rather takeaway standards than a sit-in restaurant.

Lovely restaurant and takeaway. Friendly staff. Food in my experience is excellent. The best coconut rice ever. Nice area - fairly easy parking. Can get very busy so ALWAYS book.

x3 small tubs for delivery , pad Tai, rice and curry , no lemon lime or coriander very stodgy poor excuse for fresh fragrant Thai dishes for £37 :-( will not be using again .!!

Love this place. Great food. We’re always greeted by Niran [spelling?] who is the loveliest lady. Sometimes is open when google maps suggests it is closed so would recommend calling just in case.

Our third visit to Rottingdean in a matter of months. Once again made numerous visits to Ros Thai restaurant. Wonderful food and nice staff. Always a pleasure to eat there. Always finished the meal with coconut ice cream. Looking forward to our visit in early October.

We went to Ros Thai first time after lockdown rules lifted. We used to love it when Gus was there. Today we were served by a grumpy, unhappy, impatient woman who made us feel uncomfortable. It felt like we're were a burden. The food has gone down hill, the place looks run down since Gus days...and even the menu looked tacky. Will not be going there. It used to be our favourite restaurant! Very sad.

We always enjoy our visits to Ros Thai. It is glaringly obvious when the chef is not Thai. Here, every dish tastes as it would if you had ordered it on Sukumvit Rd-delicious.

I can't praise this restaurant enough. Just had another 4 night stay in Rottingdean at the Whitehorse hotel opposite restaurant. We had 3 great evening meals and 1 lunch. The food presentation is good and the taste just Thai perfect. Staff as welcoming as ever. Very difficult to say which is best choice of meal as all were good. Over the three evening meals we had Chicken with cashew nuts, Squid with garlic and pepper, Crispy duck, Chicken mussamun, Roadside dish of grilled chicken and dessert of coconut ice cream. Looking forward to our next visit in September.

Very flavorsome and well presented food. The set menu A for two people was very good and was plenty for two hungry people!

Unwelcoming staff on a Saturday lunch time treated us as if we were an inconvenience! Well she was talking on her laptop ! She had a surly face from the get go. It was too much effort for her to explain the opening hours and became impatient with us, but her English was hard to understand. The food was nice and tasty . If you ask for a coffee it’s a bit too much trouble . Sad that staff can ruin someone’s business in this way.

Not great. Service was "abrupt" and food was quite bland. Overall not as good as it used to be under previous management.

Arrived in Rottingdean on Thursday 5th May, called into restaurant to book table for the Saturday 8th,the look and smell of the food was so good, we stayed to eat at the restaurant that night, plus Saturday and Sunday. Excellant service nice staff, and truly really good food. Saturday night was very busy but Sunday extremely quiet. Tried different food each night and all very tasty and the Chang beer was icy cold. Food served very quickly, but do be patient and be prepared to wait if the restaurant is busy. Each dish is freshly cooked. Our thanks to the staff for making our trip so enjoyable and hope to see you all again soon.

My parents live in Rottingdean and visiting Ros Thai is always one of the highlights of our visit. The food is delicious, love the starter dumplings and prawn crackers. It was very busy last night and they did an exceptional job serving everyone quickly and efficiently. love their sticky rice too! Pricing is very reasonable too!

We pre booked for a Tuesday evening meal but probably would have been OK. We had eaten here before so knew it was small, but serving excellent food. We chose a set menu for 2 with a mixed starter and 3 mains with rice. All very different but all delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall reasonably priced as was the cost of drinks we will always visit when in the area.

Outstanding food. I've been eating here for over a decade and never had anything but excellent food and service.

We have been here a few times and always find the cooking average, but hope for better things each time. Sadly our recent visit was more than disappointing; the food was uninteresting but worse was the surly and unwelcoming staff. Most restaurants post Covid are delighted to see customers again, but the opposite is the case here. Rude and impatient when she came for our order, and totally unhelpful. We shall not bother to visit again - it is not an enjoyable experience.

Not open all the time but well worth a visit as the menu choice is great as is the value. We as a couple were advised by the owner as to what to order and what individual dishes were. Not sure I will remember though.

We have visited the restaurant several times recently the food was lovely but the reception on arrival and service is nil even hard to believe unfortunately true We met the owners previously who were so nice I don't think they deserve the staff to spoil their reputation

I went in early 7pm for dinner as a single person. They reacted like I had just swore at them! Making the other diners look at me I was so embarrassed and left. I was having a break away as I'd just lost my partner and this really didn't help. I hope this isn't the reaction I'll get all the time?

Having recently moved to the area and being a Thai national myself, my Husband & I wanted to try the restaurant to see if it could be our local Thai for authentic tasting food. Having live in the UK for a long time I don’t have expectations regarding taste and understand that some Thai restaurants flavour their food to suit the consumers…so no expectations prior. We proceeded to order a few dishes, one being Pad Thai, it was far to salty for my taste and I decided to leave it and didn’t make a fuss. When the waiter came over she asked why I hadn’t eaten it and I politely told her I wasn’t hungry and didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. She kept questioning why so my husband then told her it was too salty but we continued to be polite and said “it’s fine don’t worry about it perhaps it’s just the restaurants way”. She then became VERY RUDE and said “don’t have it then!” and “why did you order it then!”, I was shocked at how she spoke to us as customers! Still I was polite and didn’t want to make a fuss & was happy to pay. Thinking it was all over UNTIL I heard her gossiping with colleagues in the background and making nasty remarks, being Thai I understood everything she was saying (+ she knew I was Thai). We were extremely shocked at her rudeness & have never experienced this in any Thai restaurant. Definitely WILL NOT be returning!!

Greasy, tasteless…. We left it all. I can’t understand how such awful food can be served, let alone the high ratings.

Good tai food chicken green curry tasty, spring rolls good,nice atmosphere,bit pricey!

Heard good things about this place so when I realised they were doing takeaway during lockdown I decided to treat myself. What a disappointment! Possibly the worst takeaway I've ever had, the food should never have been allowed out of the kitchen. All dishes were overspiced, chicken was bland and over cooked, squid looked and tasted like rubber, the crispy garlic seasoning was wet and soggy, even the coconut rice was tasteless. Best dish was the duck rolls but that's just because they were edible not worth going back for and the painfully disappointing experience wasnt cheap either. I can only hope this place has just started doing takeaway and are still finding their feet. I wish them all the best for the future but Ros Thai needs to maintain a consistent higher standard if they expect to survive the current climate.

Tom kha just tasted like lime juice and chicken was so over cooked , I like sour dishes but this was do much . Pad Thai noodles where bland , looked like they forget sauce on it . This are only thai dishes I eat and being in Thailand 8 times and ordering Thai food at least once every month , I can say this where the worse I ever had unfortunately.

My 1st experience with this Thai restaurant and it was fabulous! Ahhhhh, how much I loved it. Decided to explore their full menu and only then switch to another cuisine. Due to COVID they only do takeaway at the moment, but it only took 15min...

Superb Thai food. We have spent quite a bit of time in Thailand and this compares very favourably. We had a take away on our final night , during COVID-19 they are only doing takeaway anyway. We are five adults and all had something different....

We always enjoy the food here. The standard is good. I would give it 8 out of 10. The place gets booked up quickly. It can be a little chilly in there, but it is worth it.

My favourite takeaway . I have been getting Thai here for the last 8 years and it’s always amazing. Beautiful food full of flavour I might go tonight👍👍

Fantastic resturant food and staff are amazing

Visited with a group of friends and we opted for the set meal so that we could try a range of different dishes.Excellent food and really friendly and helpful staff.

I have no idea what those negative comments are about. Just been there and there were two ladies and the restaurant was very quiet and empty at first as it was 6:30 p.m. It started getting busy shortly after we walked in. Both of the ladies were very pleasant, friendly and welcoming. We ordered starters, two mains and drinks. Everything was delicious and the bill was quite fair. Okay the decor is not the best but who cares if the food and service is good? We both thought the food was very authentic and loved the friendly faces there. Oh, and, everything was sparkling clean!

We didn't have plan to go outside for diner as it was raining the whole day. Ros Thai is located in front of our hotel so this was our first choice. It is not so big restaurant so it's better to make a reservation first....

Love the food in the Ros Thai. We are very lucky having this so close to our house. The service is friendly and quick. It’s small and very cosy. Great to eat in and for takeaways too

Dit restaurant bevond zich vlak tegenover ons hotel en was alleen 's avonds geopend. Een grote groep had gereserveerd dus we werden gevraagd om ons diner voor 20.00 uur af te ronden en dat was geen probleem. We hadden een pittige 'papaya' salade en een rode curry. De papaya was nog onderweg, en vervangen door kool. Op zich ook niet verkeerd. Het was goed op smaak. Personeel was vriendelijk en de sfeer gemoedelijk.

We booked this for a family meal on the worst night weather wise so weren’t surprised to find the restaurant quiet has they said they had cancellations. We ordered the set meal for 4 people and really liked the food the thing that let it...

Been here a number of times over the years . Never disappoints! Went with my family for a birthday meal . Delicious food reasonably priced and lovely setting . Great and friendly service. Well worth a visit if you can get in usually pretty busy...

We went to the White horse tonight and they had no decent tables so we went to the Ros Thai. Great food and great service. The waitress called Lek was outstanding.

This was right outside our hotel and on back of good reviews we tried it. We had Menu D for two and it was amazing. Just the right size portions and so tasty. The chefs basket starter was lovely. My partner loves coconut ice cream...

When staying at the Hotel over the road we decided to try this place and we were not disappointed. The food was lovely and the service quick and easy. Proper homely feel to the place. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Try it you will...

always nice,have been coming here for years. Very pleasant staff polite and efficient. all dishes are consistantly nice . Beer great wine acceptable. Made for the english palate than authentic Thai food but why not. We keep coming so it must be good.

We walked past this evening and the restaurant was very busy but thought we would see if we could get a table. They were very accommodating and fitted us in. The food was delicious and we didn’t have long to wait. Satay chicken and tempura...

Tried another of my local eateries , overall wonderful food and service. Except whenI I asked what was suitable for a gluten dairy free diet the waiter ran away ! Didnt answer me or offer an alternative menu do i just guessed.

Fabulous food. Really impressed and will be going back. The decor isn’t bad - nothing to complain about - and even though there was only one waiter in and they were busy for a Monday night I felt the attention and service was very good.

My husband And I found this restaurant whilst staying in Rottingdean. Wow, what an amazing find! Gus & his team were courteous and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious! So much so we went two nights in a row. The best Thai food we have ever had and very authentic! We will definitely return when next in the area

Our favourite restaurant- full stop.

Just fancied a Thai meal, on the way back from the beach spotted Ros Thai. I didn’t exactly get a warm and friendly welcome. So for me this is why I have only given 2 stars as atmosphere is essential in a restaurant. The restaurant is rather tired looking, but the food was decent enough. I had the Green curry and coconut rice, nicely presented, the curry sauce was quite a thin texture, tasty though. The chicken not as soft as I’ve had in say a Chinese restaurant. I think the staff, well the older waitress could be more welcoming, doubt I’d visit again......

Basically unless you are in the Thai peninsula you will struggle to get any better.

Not much atmosphere. Staff have little charisma. Food was average.

Wonderful food and attentive staff

Don't be fooled by its dated decor, this little place is hidden gem that serves excellent food. Try the massaman chicken curry. It was the best I've ever had! Prices are good too.

Second visit to this intimate Thai, and once again did not disappoint. Friendly owners, delicious food (highly recommend the two person set menu), and very good value for money. There will be a third trip! :-)

We were a party of 3 and started with the chef’s recommendation- delicious. We then enjoyed the massaman curry, aromatic duck and the red Thai curry. The flavour was exceptional. I wish we lived nearby and could visit more often.

Arguably one of, or the best Thai food restaurants in Brighton. Incredible service, incredible authentic food and reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Great food went with friends and we chose the set menu which was very good and it was a lovely friendly atmosphere. Have been there a couple of times and would diffently go again and would highly recommend.

This was a lovely evening with family with exceptional food and service. The two person set menu was excellent with a varied selection of starters. The wine is reasonably priced and of good quality. Well worth a visit

Pleasant meal, good service, worth a visit, could do with a lick of paint, but food was nice and quickly served, unlike the White Horse across the road!

My wife and I live in Saltdean right next door to Rottingdean and so decided to pay Ros Thai a visit one Friday evening in June ... and boy are we glad we did.

One of the best Thai restaurants I've been in in England. The Sea Bass in chilli and lime is fantastic. I can strongly recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant is an absolute gem. The owner Gus is always so pleased to see you and the food is exceptional. Never in over 15 years have we had anything to complain about.

We have been here many times as a couple and with friends and always had excellent Service & Authentic Thai Food and we will return again and again.

We had meal here Saturday evening. Although we hadn’t booked , the staff managed to fit us in. There was a good selection of food on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious. Thank you Ros Thai a very enjoyable meal. We went on a Saturday so you may want to book.

I know you have to make your own mind up about restaurants, one visit here was enough for me to know I would not be going back, tired décor and poor food is not what I'm looking for.

Visiting friends in Saltdean they had booked a table for four on Saturday evening. To make ordering simple we went for the two different set meals for two people .

We have a regular Friday night take away. Menu is limited and portions are on the small side but damn it’s good. Run by an authentic Thai couple they really know what they’re doing. They close for a month in late January so we tried elephant 2 in peacehaven and realised what a gem this is. Wouldn’t eat there as it’s so tatty and always full.

I've eaten here a couple of times and going again this weekend. Invariably first class food. Decor is grubby though and moves it down to 4 stars. I prefer to think it's clean!

Este es un pequeño restaurante junto al mar en discreto. rottingdean La comida es la mejor comida tailandesa auténtica de lejos en toda la zona de Brighton. Su lubina al vapor es increíble y su guiso de arranque son muy sabrosa.

No te dejes engañar por horrible aspecto de este lugar. La comida es increíble. He estado allí porque realmente nada más estaba buscando buena para mí en esta zona y yo tenía hambre comprar me quiere comer allí por el aspecto. Chico que estaba equivocado!...

Excelente comida, excelente servicio, excelente vino, un pequeño restaurante en el paseo marítimo de Rottingdean, así que reserve. Éramos un grupo de 8, así que pedimos muchos de los platos increíbles y compartido. Las cestas de plato suculento eran fabulosos, langostinos, costillas, brochetas de pollo...

Ubicación genial, y la comida era absolutamente fantástico, se deshacen en la boca, y muy fresco. Un poco pasado de moda, pero la comida estaba bien vale la pena visitar.

Buen ambiente y gran tailandés, perfecto para un paseo marítimo después. El personal es muy atento y gran menú.

Fuimos allí para el cumpleaños de mi pareja, la camarera era caminar en su abrigo y estaba muy malhumorado. Hemos estado muchas veces en el pasado y nunca tuve un problema, pero esta vez nos dieron la impresión de que eran un obstáculo y la camarera claramente no quería estar allí. Cuando recogieron los platos ella empujado delante de nuestros amigos que me gustaría destacar fueron muestras de su primera visita, ella no tenía interés en las necesidades de ella sólo quería hacer el trabajo y nosotros lo más rápidamente posible. Nos sentimos muy incómodos y con su actitud de mal humor ella Arruinó la noche, no hace falta decir que no dejamos una propina y que no volveré allí de nuevo.

Gran auténtica comida tailandesa. Servicio inusualmente brusco para un restaurante tailandés, pero no te desanimes, la comida hace una visita vale la pena.

Lovely atmosphere, great staff and the food is fabulous!! We had the set meal for two and the food was so delicious and portions perfect.Yes it's simple interior however that is what you get in Thailand. Food took us back to Thailand.Will be back here again soon.

The location & décor is basic at best.The staff are friendly if they're not too rushed/flustered by the phone, etc. (as it appears to do a brisk take away business).The food was simple, fresh & very tasty, with a nice balance of spices, etc.

Best restaurant in the world.....Love this place - always a warm welcome, food superb and inexpensive - can't recommend highly enough.

Been here before was lovely. But went last night for my mother birthday was not so good no taste to food. 3 times got my son started wrong he a vegan and was given meat the staff not very friendly. Did not apologise once . Will not be back .
