Really helpful and friendly service with relaxed atmosphere. Excellent coffee and brownie. Definitely recommend this place!

First and last time visiting this coffee shop , nothing special , small cup of coffee 100% overpriced and shop very hot so opted for a takeout.

This is THE place to go for good coffee. Laidback café. Free wifi! Attentive staff too. And free water during the heatwave was a bonus.

We were staying in the Premier Inn which part of the same building as this cafe one afternoon after a day of walking. The cake we had was a bit dry to be honest but the coffee and tea were lovely. Staff are very welcoming and look after you well. Worth a visit for a chill out.

I was in Liverpool for a couple of days (I often visit), so decided to check out Root Coffee. I have a new favourite coffee shop in the town! On my first day I had an espresso, then later in the day a V60, choosing the Rwandan bean. The next morning I had a V60 again, this time opting for the Ethiopian. All three drinks were superb. The V60s were exactly right, both full of clarity and complexity, and perfectly dialled in. And my, that Rwandan was spectacular--a real eye opener. The shop itself had a really nice feeling to it, and is beautifully fitted out and furnished. Honestly, if you want to know what speciality coffee is, and how it differs from what the big chains offer, go to Root and order a V60, and drink it without milk or sugar. You will be amazed at what coffee can be!

Nice little cafe to watch the world go by, great tasting coffee but £3 too steep for a black coffee for Liverpool, granted most of the customers were Southern students so as usual we’re getting priced out of our own city

I've been an avid coffee drinker for years now; I can't get enough of the stuff. And I'm not saying Starbucks is bad by any means; I lived on it through my uni years, and their coffee is still a great treat. But at Root, the coffee actually tastes more than just 'sweet and slightly bitter'. It's a shock to the senses at first, because I wasn't expecting it to be slightly fruity and aromatic, but it's like you actually get to taste the coffee for once. The desserts are also to die for; not only do they taste fantastic, but they come in pretty decent portion sizes that are perfect for a snack. They taste and feel fresh, and are absolutely value for money. The staff are wonderfully friendly and accommodating, and there is a lovely charming atmosphere to the place; it's so calm and welcoming that it's hard to believe that it's sat a couple of seconds from a busy main road and L1. And not only that, the takeaway cups they use have compostable lids; it's a small detail, but one I love. I'd definitely recommend this place above all other cafes in Liverpool. It's a must visit if you're in the town centre.

This is the best Chai Latte that I’ve had anywhere! Using the fresh spices, this warmed me up and got me ready to brave the cold weather again. The decor is really nice and cosy and I love the natural wood that has been used. I can see it’s a popular place to hangout and will probably need more space to accommodate even more people. There was a power outage on the last day that I was in Liverpool so unfortunately could not have one last one before I left. Will definitely go back there again the next time that I’m in Liverpool.

I visited the other day, and enjoyed a delicious pour-over coffee! Thanks to the staff who were super attentive, and great at recommending the Nicaraguan coffee.

Chai Latte was outstanding and so was brunch, massive portion of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on sourdough bread was delicious

Bien, ocurren errores, pero luego hubo una gran dificultad para obtener un reembolso. Imposible hacerlo a través de la forma en que aparentemente pagué (Google Pay), por lo que se haría en lo que fue esencialmente un pequeño cambio. Called in for a coffee and to get out the hustle and bustle. Really nice refreshing drink and a lovely chilled out environment. A really nice place to catch up, read a book and they have plenty of caring points for lap tops etc.

No las grandes tazas lechosas que a menudo se pasan como café en Inglaterra. El espacio es un poco inconformista con un personal amable y servicial. Tienen cafés y mezclas de origen único. El menú es pequeño pero toda la comida que tuve allí era buena, sabrosa y recién hecha. Bagel con aguacate y salmón ahumado caliente, versiones de tocino, versiones vege. Los dulces también eran bastante buenos y tenían un pequeño stock de especialidad de chocolate artesanal que también atacamos. Tomamos café aquí casi todos los días en las dos semanas que tuvimos en Liverpool, así como un par de desayunos y almuerzos. La otra buena opción que encontramos para el café fue cuidadosamente (café en la plaza Cleveland, quiosco en la calle Duke).Tuvimos una mala experiencia con la comida (el personal sospechoso había tenido una gran noche), ¡pero incluso entonces el café fue excelente!

Root coffee is a friendly, welcoming coffee shop hidden away in the centre of Liverpool. They serve some fantastic specialist coffee (I have enjoyed a gorgeous Ethiopian yirgacheffe and delicious Columbian Geisha) which is lovingly and skillfully made. They also serve some gorgeous cake and pancakes. It is such a comfortable place to relax that I once almost missed my train home. I heartily recommend anybody to visit.

My wife, son and I had a late Saturday morning breakfast here. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, excellent coffee. We had the smoked pancetta pancakes and the granola, all delicious! Highly recommended

Absolutely loved everything about this cafe! It’s quite small so the first time we called we couldn’t get a table, went away and came back a bit later and was lucky enough to get a seat.

Americanos and breakfast sandwiches for us. Relaxing cafe - clientele look to be mostly students. I had a Ham and Cheese Louise - open faced sandwich - fresh and tasty. Husband had Mr Potato Head - scrambled eggs mixed with potatoes and a creamy sauce with toast. He was very pleased. Service was very good.

Sehr guter Kaffee und auch das Frühstück ist super. Hatte eine Sauerteig-Scheibe mit Avocado und Poched Egg. Richtig lecker. Auch die Smoothie-Bowls oder der Chia Pudding waren sehr lecker. Für einen gemütlichen Samstag- oder Sonntag-Morgen Brunch ideal. Gemütliche Atmosphäre.

We went in and ordered coffee which was good, especially the caramel crunch cappuccino. However, the waiter was lazy with not bringing us cutlery, and it was dirty. The Australian salad was a nice selection of foods but was far too salty, and the salmon did not look nice (discoloured). We both had stomach aches for the rest of the day immediately after eating.

Edu is the best chef ever!!! I specially recommend the burger. Very good service, nice staff. Definitely we’ll come back soon.

As a coffee enthusiast I have visited most coffee shops in town and I have to say that in my modest opinion Root Coffee is one of the best if not the best. Rosa who is the house barista takes the elaboration of each coffee extremely serious, aiming for perfection each and every time. The selection of coffees is great and the food is somewhat spectacular as well, which is prepared with care by Lani. The place is also very popular for entrepreneurs and freelancers as the atmosphere is relaxed, the are many different tables and seating areas and there are sockets to plug laptops & phones everywhere so perfect for working there. Next time I’ll definitely have a go at their famous carrot cake!

Excellent coffee. Lovely staff. Great place to stop for a while. Lots of usb charge points and plugs for laptops and phones. Real care and attention given to the coffee making. Only down side would be the wait when it gets busy.

This place serves delicious coffee. Nice staff and good location. The toilets need to be improved though. The sink is almost falling off.

Best coffee I’ve had. Won’t ever look at Starbucks or costa the same ever again once you have a coffee from here. Cute little food options as well for brunch would highly recommend

Café tranquilo y acogedor.Estaba lleno,y nos sentamos en la barra.Nuestra camarera,Rosa, encantadora y muy amable y Kasper, otro camarero ,muy simpático y bromista., nos prepararon un café buenísimo, que en Liverpool es algo difícil porque no hacen el cortado cómo se prepara aquí.Tomamos una porción de bizcocho de chocolate ,era grande, esponjoso y muy suave de sabor y una porción de brownie que estaba increíble .Felicitamos a Edu, cocinero de este café, porque la repostería estaba buenisima.Merece la pena ir si estás en Liverpool.

We stopped here on our walk around Liverpool, it’s a beautiful done coffee shop and the staff were friendly and helpful, the coffee was great and my wife’s hot chocolate was too.

This was the first time I had visited here and didn’t even know this was here! I got a regular latte which was lovely however a little more expensive compared to other coffee shops, latte was £2.90 but still really nice.

This is a really trendy little coffee shop near Bluecoat. They have free wifi and a nice variety of coffee, filter coffee and tea and also some cool ones like Beetroot latte, matcha latte and caramel cappuccino. The atmosphere is very chic with many working away on their laptops or studying. There’s also a food menu with some light bites like sandwiches, pancakes, muffins etc. and free books to read, mostly about coffee. Overall Root is a hip little independent coffee shop in the heart of Liverpool worth visiting for any coffee lover.

The location is quite new and offers besides coffee quiches, granola & yogurt, cakes, and tea. We stopped to get a coffee and ended up ordering spinach quiche. Great for coffee!!

Possibly my favourite spot in Liverpool, they make me a vegan potato dish not on the menu! Always friendly, they know me now and what I order, food is always incredible. I’ve shown friends this place all of them have loved the food, drink and atmosphere. Definitely the best vegan mocha I’ve tried! Also a great place as a student to come and revise!

Located inconspicuously off a busy road is a quiet oasis where coffee is the main feature of this establishment. We ordered a cappuccino and a flat white and both were exceptional....smooth, flavoursome and served at the right temperature. Root baristas certainly know how to deliver! So glad we found Root Coffee.

Best coffee in the city, Cold brew is very good, full of flavour(unlike high st branded coffee companies), staff are always very pleasant and the reason I keep going back.

We just went in for a morning brew. The flat whites were the best we've had! Well worth a visit. Relaxing spot & the breakfasts looked very good.

Stopped off here from some brunch. Was rather hipster and a bit pretentious. The coffee and hot chocolate were very good and the nutella pancakes were reasonable. However, we also ordered a croque monsieur. We were informed on ordering that the cheese would not be melted, which we thought was a bit strange. When the dish arrived it was a plate with 2 slices of toast, some slices of cheese and Parma ham (not on the toast), all disguised under a mountain of over seasoned salad (visible piles of salt). We extracted the various ingredients to make ourselves a cheese and ham sandwich, and left some of the salty salad behind.

In Liverpool for an Exhibition at the Museum, we went to Roots which we had found on T'Internet as one of our party is a Coffeeaholic.

Excellent speciality coffee. Rich flavour and aroma espresso with the right amount of acidity. Goes extremely well with the Nutella a and banana pancakes!!! One of the few places in Liverpool that brew coffee to perfection.

I came here early one morning for coffee and toast. Coffee was very good, they have different preparation methods- I had the V60. Toast was great! different types of bread, all very good! The staff was very friendly and the service excellent. It is a very pretty -hipster- place and has a nice atmosphere.

My husband and I love this place and drop in for a coffee every time we visit Liverpool. Not only is the coffee amazing. The cakes are just divine. We also like the interior and the staff was always very friendly. Highly recommended coffee place for sure.

3 stars here doesn't indicate bland, by any means. I really love the underlying concept of the place - for all the talk of antipodean cafes in Britain, it's rare to find attention to coffee accompanied by a worthwhile menu. Yet the execution of the concept consistently lets it down on both fronts.

Lovely place with amazing atmosphere, quality m coffee and really friendly staff as well! Not very cheap but not crazy expensive either. Defo worth visiting at some point!

I am a coffee fan for many years and never had such a wonderful coffee. If you want great coffee carefully prepared this is the place to go.

Quite difficult to rate because one part was terrible, the other was great.

Roots is a bit of a hidden gem, tucked out of the way just off Hanover Street and slightly away from the bussle of central Liverpool. They do all the usual cups of coffee plus a few more unusual ones. They also sell coffee you can take home and do food.

Nice atmosphere inside, the young man who served us was very friendly & knowledgable. Amazing coffee and reasonable prices. They also serve food which didn't try on this occasion but most definitely will on my next visit.

We had no problem finding Root Coffee. It has a lovely, friendly relaxed atmosphere. Lots of seating available. The coffee and cake were very nice. Staff were cheerful and helpful.

I've visited twice in the last fortnight as it's the closest to a series of job interviews I had in Liverpool. First time I visited was 8.30am and the sun was shining. Ordered a latte and sat outside in the sunshine doing some prep for my 9am interview. By 10 to 9 I was ready to cancel the order as I needed to leave. Latte arrived, I drank it as quickly as I can and left.

This is honestly one of the best coffee shops I've ever been in (and I spend a LOT of time in coffee shops). It's very comfortable, making it easy to spend a couple hours here to work. The music is pleasant but quiet, and even the ambient noises of other discussions are gentle background. They make an excellent latte, smooth and not bitter at all. And the food I've sampled has been delcious. Just an all around great place.

If you are interested in high quality coffee, go here! Plug in your laptop, order some appetizing food and enjoy. An extra star for the lovely Norwegian staff member.

This relaxed coffee shop is tucked away down a side street in busy Liverpool and it's the perfect place to unwind. The staff were very friendly and helpful in guiding me which coffee I would prefer most. My coffee was very nice although it was a little over priced. A very snug, peaceful place.

Incredible food with an amaizing taste, we take the chicken cajun wrap, chorizo, chicken salad and the lovely ox cheek, the last one is really amaizing Congratulations to the chef and also to the rest of the staff Definitely we will come back

Waited 45 minutes to receive a plate of two tiny little pancakes with a big old banana shoved on top which I paid almost five pounds for.

Struggled to find this place initially as it's just off Hanover street by Tesco. The coffee was really good and I was impressed to see that they offer a range of milk alternatives (soy, almond and coconut) as not many coffee joints do. The lady that served me on till was really lovely and the place itself had a cosy and very chic feel to it. The only bad thing I have to say is that I ended up waiting about 15 minutes for my coffee. Luckily, I didn't mind too much as I was sitting in and I could see they were bringing coffee and food to peoples tables, but if you're grabbing a coffee to go on your break then it could be a little annoying.

Firstly I have to say that we struggled just a little bit to find the cafe, which is a short distance down a side street off Hanover. The place has quite a cool, Scandi type vibe and the staff were welcoming. Coffee was good but the menu was a little limited for breakfast.

Very friendly staff. Coffee delicious...Americano. Simple and absolutely spot on after a long train journey. Food looked tasty and a range of sweet and savoury fresh items. Tables well spaced apart and comfortable seating. Very central to get to but tucked away too from busy street. Would definitely return.

Good range of speciality teas and coffees as well as the regular choices. We had apple cake which was fresh and delicious but I think they offer savoury foods too. Nice place to chill out and chat. Friendly staff with excellent service. Honeycomb cappuccino was delicious - look forward to trying something else next time!

A popular coffee house and I can see why. The Americano was everything a coffee should be - smooth and just the right hint of bitterness. I just don't understand why every coffee house can't make the perfect coffee - this place can! Mocha and hot chocolate were also delightful. Chocolate brownie tasty too and the other food we saw looked good.

Attention to detail. Fab drinks especially cucumber and fennel fizz. Great soup and plenty for vegan and vegetarians. Staff great. Decor fab. Recommend

Ample and comfortable seating in a great atmosphere. The coffee is excellent and brewed to perfection with delicious cakes (salted caramel cake is dreamy) and nibbles. The tea is really underrated here, as they have a wide selection of interesting and tasty loose leafs. The staff is absolutely lovely as well.

All the staff were lovely and the coffee was great. They have a variety of roasters that rotate with both pourover and espresso options, with some great cold brew from Brew Lab, one of the best coffee places in Edinburgh. Food options look great but didn't have chance to try this time unfortunately!

The coffee was nice and interior good design. We ordered food from the menu which was marked with veggie and vegan options but was really confusing We thought we were ordering vegan but the beans on toast came with a runny fried egg and the avocado toast with cheese?

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a coffee snob, so finding a decent cup in Liverpool was a priority. Having hunted across the city, it's definitely the best coffee I've found. Lovely surroundings too and great staff. Speedy delivery of our 3 different coffees and each on was perfect.

I'm not sure how to write something without sounding overly cliched. This place takes the coffee drinking experience to a new level, in a good and unpretentious way. Certainly for coffee connoisseurs, but also very much accessible for anyone. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Dropped in for breakfast. Good advice on coffees - you can choose what you have - and breakfast itself was excellent for all of us. Thoroughly recommend the mushrooms and fried egg on toast - delicious.

Hunted this place down whilst on a trip to Liverpool after reading the great reviews. Definitely not disappointed. Three of us had different coffees; flat white, latte, and cappo. All of them made to perfection. We also had an avocado on toast, which was amazingly delicious, and had one of those unique tastes that compelled you to ask how they'd made it (top secret). The cafe itself is a good size and reminded me very much of New York.
