Delifonseca Dockside in Liverpool

Met a friend and her children for lunch (half-term) and whilst the food was quick and pleasant, the waitress was really miserable and acted like she couldn’t care less. I understand people are tired especially in half term, but it wasn’t busy it was quite empty. She walked away half way through asking for more drinks and we had to shout after her and tried everything to avoid eye contact when asking for the bill. When she did respond, she was curt and offhand. Been many times and staff have always been pleasant but not sure I’d go there again after today.

I had avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and halloumi & chilli jam. I am a regular customer of Edge and sons butchers in Rock Ferry so have come over to Liverpool to try the food and visit the food Hall.

I'll stick to the facts. We went for a meal on Friday night. No problems. Great service. Our boy, 8, has to eat gluten free. They don't have great (or any, really) gluten free options on the menu. Not a big problem. The chef said he could make a kid's pulled beef sandwich with gluten free bread. Perfect, thank you. The food was good. The restaurant charged me the full £22 adult price for my son's meal. Still didn't care. We had a good time. Bill was over £100 for a family of 4 (two adults, one 8 year old, one 3yr old). So, pricey, but hey, service was good and we were staying in the Travelodge opposite, with zero food options so, really, at this point I'm thinking the Delifonseca is a Godsend. An expensive Godsend, but we have somewhere to have an evening meal and a breakfast. There's a shop attached, so we bought our son some gluten free breakfast cereal for the morning, in case we need it. So far, so good. But... ...In the morning we go for breakfast at the Delifonseca. The breakfast menu isn't cheap, but this place does decent food and is conveniently located. We ask if there are gluten free breakfast options. There aren't. No problem. We ask if we can have beans on gluten free toast. We're told the kitchen has run out of gluten free bread and there are no other options. OK, it is what it is. We ask if we can have a bowl of milk and we'll put in our own cereal from the shop. Our waitress isn't sure. Says we can't bring our own food in. I explain the restaurant has failed to order enough gluten free bread, so considering we have no options, surely us putting some cereal in a bowl so our son doesn't go hungry should be agreeable. Bear in mind, my wife and I, plus our daughter are all eating from the menu and our son would have ice cream for a dessert. And if the restaurant wanted to charge me for a breakfast for my son, I would have paid it. I was going to have the full breakfast, my wife would have had similar. Our daughter something smaller. Plus coffees, juice etc. Plus, we'd already spent over £100 the night before. Our brekkie bill would have been something around £70-80. We would have eaten at the Delifonseca every night and had brekkie every morning. So, 3 nights left. £300. 4 brekkies, £300. So this place was going to get around £600 from us during our visit. More like £700, if you add items purchased from the shop over our stay. Anyway, back to the story, our waitress still isn't sure. I say not to worry, can we speak to the manager. I'm sure once the manager realises the details, it's a no-brainer. They can't provide a gluten free option. We have one, purchased from their own shop. Charge us what you like. On with the breakfast. The waitress returns and says the manager said no. I said 'so we have to leave because we can't feed our son?'. The waitress said yes. I said to the waitress, 'you are OK, not your fault, but your manager is an idiot'. And that was that. So a 1 star review - for the manager's ignorance. And for the manager's failure/s in basic food ordering in the first place, which created the situation. And for generally the place not being run by what I would consider a kind human being.

Looked forward to a Valentines day lunch with my love at Delifonseca, the food and atmosphere was good, however the big let down was service or lack of. After being seated we sat for ten minutes before having to get up ourselves and request a waiter/waitress....another five minutes wait before being offered any service, food arrived finally (without a smile) then no wait staff checked in to see how things where or if we required anything else during our visit. I'm sad to say it was a big disappointment for a £110 lunch and will probably not return.

My wife and I love dining in Delifonseca after a mooch around their Deli. The atmosphere is great and the food and service in the restaurant is spot on. I can recommend their breakfasts or the fish and chips which is beautiful. All in all a cracking place to eat.

Lovely place! The deli side has lots of wonderful items to tempt you and buy. I do recommend the cheese counter! And the food in the restaurant is superb, and the staff welcoming, friendly & helpful. A lovely place to have a lovely meal! Do go if you have the chance!!

Disappointed asked for soda and lime got told no lime, asked for a shandy instead but they said they had no lemonade. Their were 4 in our group for lunch, we all ordered sandwiches, which came with frozen skinny chips, sandwiches were on baguettes with very basic fillings. You had to have both as not on the menu individually, at £16.00 plus 10% service charge we all thought it was expensive. Staff were very apologetic about the drinks, but overall not overly impressed, why you have to pay 10% on pint of lager that is already expensive at £6.00 nobody can explain.

My favourite restaurant for quality food and spending time with family and friends. You can actually hear each other speak and enjoy conversation. And there's an incredible deli in house. Plenty of space, inside and out (car park). Thank you 🙏 for another great evening and see you in a few weeks.

The butchers here is top notch! I needed rabbit for a recipe and struggled to find it anywhere, one phone call and it was ordered and waiting for me to pick up.

También nos quedamos un poco sorprendidos con la cuenta (£ 60 por cabeza que incluía bebidas). No sentí que la calidad o la cantidad de comida justificara el precio cobrado.

We had a lovely meal today (sausages & mash, fish & chips, salmon salad). The food was excellent and the service was great

Lovely lunch catch up with family and friends. Food was gorgeous.

Had shopped in there many times but won't be going back. Last three times I've been there I've been followed around the shop by a member of staff acting like a amateur store detective. Getting watched from behind the various stands. It's not nice being treated like a shop lifter. Felt quite insulted, so no, not for me.

We are fairly regular visitors. The restaurant and the shop have never let us down. Great breakfast menu and a excellent delicatessen.

We had lunch we were very disappointed in the menu content -sandwiches and no great specials-we were looking for something different. Prices are expensive for what you get £17 for a sandwich and chips and fish and chips was haddock not cod and that was £18. They have changed the restaurant and have more seating but the vibe has gone . The deli was not great and expensive. I was going to get some smoked garlic but it was not fresh and crumbling . We heard the waitress say they only open on a Friday and Saturday night and open on Thursday nights for events. We were not surprised the restaurant offered nothing special. We will not be going again as there are lots of other restaurants offering much better menus with lots of variety and at more reasonable prices. It has definitely gone from being a great restaurant to a poor restaurant . We had not been for a while and it was a very disappointing menu with no wow factor to entice us to return. A very poor experience.

Lovely Deli we mainly go for the great butchers. With less and less butchers that are good with a great price in the city this is the place to go for beef and lamb. The Deli is also as all Delis should be ! Huge range to choose from and some lovely single crop 100% olive oil. Friendly helpful staff behind the Butchery counter and Deli Counter and behind the Check out. Best Deli we have found in the City.

I don't use the restaurant I used the shop so I buy fruit and veg and meat cheese big range on offer some you can't find in other supermarkets

Popped to the shop (rather than restaurant) some interesting produce. I've shopped at the 'original' Edge in New Ferry and it's good to see the same quality at their branch here. I picked up some Spanish goodies. Yes, it's not cheap but you expect to pay a bit more for this sort of quality

Had breakfast with friends, after staying at the Travelodge. Reasonably priced, the Huevos Rancheros were excellent!

Don’t normally bother with reviews, everybody gives 5* for everything these days, so providing you do the bare minimum, 5* it appears to be……HOWEVER! Firstly I have no affinity with or know anybody involved with Delifonseca, nor were we asked to leave a review. What a gem of a place Delifonseca is, superbly run by the very excellent Tom. Suggested wine choices, nibbles, lots of conversation, he showed us his scrapbook from his birthday trip to San Sebastion, this guy is passionate about food, wine and customer service and knows his stuff, but in an ordinary, helpful and unpretentious way. Excellent menu and daily specials, too much wine later, we had starters, which were excellent, then fish and chips which were superb. Back the next morning for breakfast, they warned us there may be a wait because of how busy they were, which I don’t mind as long as you know. Breakfast really good, served by a lady who had retired, but come back in that morning because they were short staffed and busy. Tom must be a very good manager to get retired staff to do that. We cannot recommend this place highly enough - please open a sister version here in Chipping Sodbury.

Visité Delifonseca por primera vez para desayunar con familiares y amigos. Al estar con niños pequeños y cochecito, nos gustó nuestra amplia mesa y el lugar en general. La comida era deliciosa y en precios razonables. Poder aparcar fuera gratis tiene un valor añadido para nosotros. Sin duda volveremos!

What a shame it is dog unfriendly inside, as it is situated right next to Travelodge hotel which is Dog friendly.

For breakfast the food is very good, brilliant quality and service cannot be faulted. The shop is also really good to visit after.

Lo único que no nos pareció genial fue la discrepancia en los precios entre el menú disponible en línea y en el restaurante. Entramos esperando que el pollo asado fuera de £ 16 - como se anuncia en el sitio web - cuando en realidad era de £ 20 . Entiendo que los precios tienen que subir; el precio en sí no era el problema, era solo el hecho de que era significativamente más alto de lo que se anunciaba. Al lado hay una fantástica tienda de granja que vende productos fantásticos. Realmente espero volver a esta joya escondida en Liverpool. No se permiten perros en la tienda.

Stylish great breakfast and staff are friendly

What a gaff. Staff supeb, genuinely. Went for breakfast. My wife tried huevos rancheros for the first time and loved it. My fry up was the nuts. Eggs proper yellow. Home made baked beans superb. Sausages could have had more colour. Toast piping hot and doorstep. Could go on. Top marks. Ohh, why did the coffee taste so bleeding good. Already excited about coming back.

We stayed at the Travelodge Liverpool Docks and had breakfast in Delifonseca 4 times. The staff were lovely and the breakfast options were very good. Photo’s attached are of the Cinnamon Brioche French Toast & the Bircher Muesli. If we stay here again we will definitely go back to Delifonseca as we loved it.

Wondering round the deli buying some bits and Called into the restaurant for some breakfast, although the menu has a lot of choice I only wanted something light, I ordered scrambled egg on toast, wow absolutely beautiful so light, fresh and hot. Very tasty and the hot chocolate was lovely, so smooth and chocolately. Lovely venue and staff very attentive and polite. Table service was quick. Will certainly be returning.

Deli Fonseca gets a D for disappointed. Very slow service. Had to wait ages to order. Had to ask twice for kids menu. Limited choice of menu on a Sunday. Got order wrong for drinks and desert. Small veg portion. Food cold. Could do alot better. Came a few weeks ago and it was alot better. Will be trying somewhere else next time.

Promised a lot. Delivered little. Unjustifiably huge markup on having a cake in the restaurant vs. take away. Slow service. Nice seating. Refused to let us sit in one part of the restaurant despite 2 other couples being there. Terrible first impression which has compelled me to leave a review and also means we won't be back. Broadly unfriendly and for a premium price point you expect basic courtesies. Toilets are nice with good fragrance oils. Staff let the place down.

Love Delifonseca, great place to meet friends. Varied menu 😋 Friendly, accommodating staff. My friend asked if she could vary her choice of meal and the staff were happy to do this.

Went for brunch but got there too late. Ended up having lunch. The meals our 4 some ate.. from the lamb roast/ chicken roast and haddock and chips.. Cheeseboard to die for. Decent house red 9/10 I will eat here again Thank you

This a review for the food hall: best selection of cheeses in town with a lot of beautiful cheeses from the British Isles! And an absolutely fantastic butcher. Some brilliant wines and beers too. And there’s more! Basically a vegetarian I treat myself to a nice piece of meat from time to time and this is the place to get it from. Succulent. Being from rare breeds I expect the animals to have been treated with love and respect too.

First visit to the deli and restaurant. Good selection of speciality food in the deli and great butchery. Restaurant is lovely and airy with great service. Only had a sharing platter today but will no doubt be visiting again. The Sunday roast looked amazing too.

We've just had Sunday lunch at Delifonseca Dockside with family and friends. The food was excellent, the service very good and the prices very reasonable (there were seven of us, most just had main courses (Sunday roasts) but two ordered deserts and we had a few drinks, all just under £230 including service charge). Highly recommended; we'll definitely be going back.

Delifonseca has been my favourite restaurant for many years. It still serves the most delicious and high quality food. I have never been disappointed. Just shared lunch with my husband there today. We highly recommend the bread ,basil oil and balsamic! Fish and chips as fresh and crispy as ever while my Salmon Nicoise was fabulous. Hot apple crumble with proper chefs custard and the Fruit compote of figs, apricots and cranberries in rum syrup with sorbet served with an olive oil biscuit was original and very tasty! . Tom and Karen always make folk so welcome and ensure that they have a truly fine dining experience. Well done to you all. Thank you so much for many years of happy memories at Delifonseca.

Website says open at 8. However butchers opens at 9 and at 10 past, still no fresh meats available. If they can't be bothered to open on time I won't be bothered to drive out of my way to shop there

The place for those who seek excellent food ,cooked and served by people who want to make this a wonderful unforgettable experience. Went on 3 consecutive nights whilst on holiday. Always the same great standard. Tom and Karen spent time with us talking of their aims to provide excellent, locally sourced food and make every visit a pleasure. Wish they were nearer. Can't wait to return next year. Thank you everyone for a fantastic time.

Visited for brunch when staying at the Travelodge. Delicious food and a warm welcome. What’s not to love? Thinking about booking for lunch after our son’s upcoming graduation ceremony. I don’t think we’ll be disappointed!

Fantastic food. Shared a full English breakfast and two poached eggs on toast which was more than enough for the two of us. Lovely place with attentive staff.

A truly wonderful evening of Spanish food and wine tasting. The dishes were all beautifully cooked and presented and the wine parings were excellent. We cleared all 5 dishes and generous glasses of wine! The service was extremely friendly but not intrusive. It was our second tasting event and it certainly didn’t disappoint! We have even already booked on next month’s event!

Avoid at all cost. I’m Italian and I love quality but when I saw something that cost 2.50£ by sainsburys and they sell the same product for 6£ which is more than 100% more no thanks I will not buy anymore something from this thieves…1 star because I can’t give 0

We’ve been coming here for years - the location is great and so is the food, normally. But not today - it was dry, tough, and felt like it’d been left in the kitchen under a heat lamp for a LONG time. The quality of service - the speed of service, the attentiveness of staff, even when the place is almost empty and especially when you’re on the other side of the restaurant (ie the furthest point away from the kitchen and bar) has dropped off massively too. It’s such a shame but, despite years of loyal service, I think we’ll be going elsewhere going forward. Tom, the main waiter is/was excellent (not sure he’s still there?) but the last four times we’ve been the service has been almost non existent and beyond slow.

A nice, stylish restaurant, with good service. I had the fish and chips which was decent enough and was £15. I expected a bit more from this restaurant after reading the reviews and it was better than ok, but not a five star loved it.

It's a little bit out of the way from the city center but worth the journey. There's a Deli and restaurant on site with plenty of parking space. Tried the platter, which had a good selection of cheeses and meats with potato salad. Lovely food and nice staff.

Excellent proper deli, cheese and charcuterie counters, an Aladdin's cave of ingredients, treats, bread, salad counter, full butchers counter, beers, wine, spirits. They'll also make custom hampers which make wonderful gifts and there's an excellent restaurant attached as well. Foodie paradise

We visited for a fry up breakfast on Sunday. The English breakfast came with 2 eggs, sausages, bacon, fried potatoes, tomatoes, black pudding, baked beans and bread & butter. Loved the homemade baked beans in tomato sauce. The whole meal was very nice. 😀👌

First time visiting , staff very slow at taking the orders , food was delicious. Even trying to pay the bill was painfully slow

If it's quality that you want, then this is the right place to go

The food was fine, but the service last Sunday was really stretched. Our table was full of empties most of the meal and it was difficult and slow to order food/drink and get the bill. Members of the party got their mains and desserts very late. At one point I asked one of the older waitresses if she minded taking away my empty mains plates as the dessert was arriving. She muttered something under her breath and left empty handed, only to struggle juggling plates around when she came back and the was no space to put the dessert.

Once again, amazing food and great service. I was meeting with a friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time and I was looking for a place where Great food, service and price was guaranteed at the same time that good atmosphere but not too noisy as we wanted to catch up and I knew that Delifonseca was the place to go. Not only disappointed us but exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended

We stopped in with no reservation yesterday, after a long walk along the docks. The place was absolutely bustling, but the manager found us a table, and the whole experience was excellent. We were 3 adults, and 3 kids (one of whom was a bit grumpy). We ordered some kids food, and some bits for ourselves. All great quality and really tasty, especially the pigs cheek and the kids fish. The really stand out thing for me, though, was how lovely the entire team were. The manager on duty was a great host, but the team as a whole were stand out. Everyone was super busy, and clearly under pressure, but also so generous with smiles and their time. One waiter in particular was great with the kids, engaging with them just because, and it made their visit. Thank you very much, and we will be back.

I have a dairy intolerance and so ordered the vegan options. After spending all night with painful bloating I'm pretty sure there was dairy in my food. I'm sick of chefs thinking, "ah vegans, pretentious nonsense".

First time at the restaurant, very impressed indeed. Large, spacious dinning area. The staff were very help and knowledgeable The food was excellent and I would definitely recommend. Wow! What an amazing place!!!! Staff are so warm and welcoming, the decor is cosy yet modern and the view of the skyline over the river is beautiful. The food is incredible! First time I've been and I will 100% be going back! You HAVE to try Delifonseca, you will not be disappointed

Went for lunch today. Lovely Oat latte & delicious halloumi wrap. Really tasty served with fries & salad. Service excellent as always.

Rang on the off chance and we were lucky a table was available. Service was exemplary and when the food arrived it too was really good. We feasted and were not disappointed with any elements of our meal. I have to say that in comparison to the ‘plastic food’ restaurants in the city centre Delifonseca is brilliant.

My hairdresser told me he had been here for Sunday lunch and said it was gorge, so decided to give it a whirl. Went with my partner, we both ordered the roast beef dinners. We waited a good half hour for food, but could see the staff were very busy as the Restaurant was nearly full. When food finally arrived, they didnt bring our sides with the mains, had to request them? Why? Food was really nice, My partner never usually eats yorkshire pudding, but he ate this one. We ordered a crumble du jour for dessert to share, but was a very strong cinnamon flavour, so left half of it, but that was just my taste. Just a couple of things why I havent given 5 stars. We werent offered any sauces or condiments with our meal, there was salt and pepper on the table but some mustard or horseradish would have been nice with the beef. As mentioned before, we did have a bit of a wait, and finally the knives provided were just blunt, really struggled to cut up the meat, and it was soft.

Disappointing. Lovely venue. Service very slow, no awareness of customer needs, checking meal is OK, any more drinks, etc. We were refunded half costs of beef stew which was not liked. Expecting a panacotta dessert instead of a sorbet. Again disappointing.

The perfect Sunday roast. Visited at 4:15pm on a Sunday. Warmly greeted by staff. Food arrived quickly and was FANTASTIC! Not stingy on the gravy, beautiful roast potatoes and the side vegetable was gorgeous. Portions sizes are just right. 3 very clean plates. Would highly recommend and will most certainly be returning.

Once again, a great experience. Took friends who had never been before and they were totally impressed with the menu and the service. Every meal ordered was perfect and we were inspired to all have dessert too.

First impression excellent; staff very professional yet friendly and food presentation impeccable. Until we got the bill; charged for jug of water, charged for large glass of wine when only a standard measure provided and then not advised of optional service charge of 10% and felt pressured to pay when server stood waiting to take card payment as soon as we were provided with the bill. Unfortunately won’t return and hope no one else has same experience as us.

Really nice avacado on toast with chilli jam and spicy lentils, would definitely buy again. Lovely coffee as well. Jug of iced water provided for free without asking for it which is a nice touch. Really friendly staff deserving of tip.

Was here for a conference dinner, and we all seemed delighted with the experience. Very tasty food and an extremely friendly and accommodating staff. Complicated but unfussy flavors from a very varied menu.

This was our first visit - but will not be our last! We were invited to join our friends, who have been numerous times for lunch. Our waiter - Patrick -was absolutely charming! Efficient, but friendly. His recommendation for the wine - Italian from Puglia (which sadly they don't sell in the deli - otherwise we would have bought some!) was super! All the food came together, presentation was nice and we all enjoyed our choices. We all opted for a light pudding - ice-creams - the pistachio was great! We were not hurried in any way. Coffee followed and then we went to the deli.... just missed the butcher, so no bacon or steak... the meat looked superb... so we will definitely buy before we eat next time. Plenty parking too! Would highly recommend. Thank you Patrick!

Best food and service I’ve received in a long time. The most attention, knowledge, and understanding of allergies/dietary restrictions, every safe and traceable. What was just as impressive was how genuinely friendly and welcoming everyone was about the allergies, super lovely people and good honest cooking elevated to a restaurant level. Pure nourishment but in a special manner
