Me and a few others went for coffee to Root + Branch's Portview centre roastery. Not one of us enjoyed the experience. Coffee tasted stale, burnt and oily. On top of that, their coffee is the most expensive I've come across in Belfast. Also, had a kind of strange experience with their staff. Unprompted, they started asking me if I was interested in nibitcoin and wouldn't stop asking me to join some group meeting that the shop was running about it. They got a bit grumpy when we weren't expressing interest in it. Odd experience. I just wanted to sit down with my coffee. Takeaway: I wouldn't recommend Root + Branch to any coffee lovers as there are much better quality coffee roasters elsewhere in Ireland along with many coffee shops in Belfast that use better quality coffee.

This is a review of the Ormeau Baths location. Popped in for a flat white which cost me £3 - 50p more than my usual one I get in town, so I was expecting it to be top of the line. The venue has all the hallmarks of a trying too hard hipster establishment - i couldn't care less about this if the coffee is excellent but alas this was not the case. The flavour profile is a bit 1 dimensional compared to my usual and a tad too bitter - this coffee should be 50p less not 50p more that what I am used to paying. Back to my regular FW it is!

Visited with friends recently. Had the large box fry. Sausage patty was tasty. At $12+ there are definitely better breakfast and coffee alternatives. Felt service was little slow for how quiet it was. Our water bottle was never filled (although to be fair I didn’t try to ask for it to be).

Popped in for breakfast, first time. Had the sour dough and home made beans - £7.50. With 2 poached eggs was £10. Really quite average, pretty bland. Over priced for what it was. The female server however was really friendly and helpful. I’m not sure if we will go again.

We had heard really good things about this place, located a little out of the way but a really nice building and you can see the roasters out the back. The staff were all attentive and smiley which was nice and welcoming. However, the coffee was just a disappointment.. we ordered two flat whites and the coffee didn’t suit milk at all. It was very bitter and I actually couldn’t finish which is rare for me. I would like to try again to see if it was an off batch though.

Popped in for coffee this afternoon. Was astonished at the price of an Americano and even more astonished when it took about ten minutes to arrive and was in a tiny cup. The place was very quiet however the service was atrocious. The waitress stood with my coffee in her hand chatting away to her friend. Considering I’d already had a substantial wait this was very aggravating. When I asked for milk she did the same, continued to talk to her friend with the milk jug in her hand. I actually had to catch her eye otherwise i probably would have waited even longer. The coffee was alright, cold by the time I got it and not worth the price. The terrible service was enough to put me off going back. Plenty of other places on the Ormeau Road that serve nice coffee at a reasonable price and actually provide customer service.

One of Belfast's new gems on the Ormeau Road. All coffee is roasted in their own East Belfast roastery and then brewed to perfection in the shop. Staff have good knowledge about the coffee and are happy to share this if asked. Their talented chefs produce something special from locally sourced ingredients, and their baked goods are exceptional. This is not a place for those in a hurry as each coffee is carefully crafted and food is made to order. That being said for those who enjoy coffee and like to try something that is local this is a place not to be missed.

My husband and I live locally and have always enjoyed popping into root and branch for a coffee. Today we ventured in with our newborn baby, and decided to sit in for coffee and a bite to eat. The staff were lovely and accommodating, and didnt seem to mind as we tried to find the best place to squeeze a pram. The coffee was great and food delicious. There are so many great places for coffee on ormeau road, but I love sitting in here. The ambiance is great and reminds me of many of the cafes I loved to visit when living in London. We will certainly be back!

Had brunch here recently and not only was the food average, at best, it was outrageously expensive! I was presented with a plate made up of a lump of something purporting to be Boxty, 2 slices of undercooked yet charred bacon, 2 halfs of the tiniest tomato, 2 slimy poached eggs and a handful of salad leaves (described as greens). All for only £9.50! Also had two slices of crispy air, described as sourdough toast for £2. A good flat white was £2.70. No white sugar, which is my preference. £14.20 for a less than average brunch is taking the P! I think the owners are of the mistaken belief that they are in Hoxton. Not a bit of wonder most of the patrons were tapping on their laptops over a cup of something or at empty tables. Will definitely not be back! Treat your clientele like cash cows and you will fail. It is easy to get people in once, making them regulars demands a lot better than this, especially when there are so many quality, value for money, competitors in the immediate vicinity!

Volvere.

Service was ok, we sat outside and you can order through the phone. We both had a steak, I clicked the 'rare' option and my friend 'medium rare'. They were both more than well done, very dry. The beer smelled like wet dog for some reason. Onion rings and chips were nice tho. The table was also really gross, we were sitting outside but these tables looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks.

Went for a morning coffee in district this weekend, terrible experience. The girl making the coffee was exceptionally rude from the beginning - ordered us to stand at the till when we accidentally stood by the coffee machine. No hello / please etc basic manners. Have to collect your own coffee even when you are sitting in - which is left to be collected beside other dirty cups and dishes because no staff were lifting dirty items from any customers tables they then had to leave them back themselves, really quite lazy and unhygienic. The toilets in the cafe look like they have never been cleaned, blood and dirt and toilet roll all over the place absolutely disgraceful. Will not be back
