Rooftop Garden Norwich I haven’t done a review in a while soo here it goes On a work trip in Norwich and decided to try out a recommendation from my Hotel receptionist and she said try the Rooftop Garden. Reservation was made and ooff I went. The restaurant is located on the 6th floor of the Union building. You take the elevator up in the lobby and when you come out the lift the entrance is on the right. Greeted nicely by receptionist host and taken to your table. Waiter was lovely and asked about allergies which of course as always seafood and shellfish so recommended the foods that are lower risk of cross contamination. In the meantime, I thought I’d try a new mocktail so went for a Virgin Pornstar Martini (rating 1/5) wasn’t my favourite Starter Korean Pork Belly with sesame aioli and Parmesan,made different by the chef which was really nice of him.. see picture no Parmesan and no sesame.. It was extremely spicy and y’all know I don’t like overly spicy food. I like to enjoy my food without a runny nose haha. Asked for some garlic butter and it took at 20:00 and by 20:17 I was still waiting and the pork was getting cold.. I guess il soldiered on. The garlic butter arrived 20:19… whoop but it was just oil lol made it a little bearable (Starter Rating 2.5/5) too spicy for my palette, if you like spicy then yeah it’s nice Main course - Pork Belly, burnt apple puree, hassle back potatoes, confit carrot, buttered greens, bacon butter sauce. The main was good, didn’t taste the bacon in the butter but I have to say out of all the pork belly I have had this was a good one (Main rating 3.5/5) Overall the service was 5/5 Atmosphere was 4/5 Food rating 6/10 Next time I’m up this way I was try something else and update my rating. My first visit to the Rooftop Gardens, possibly my last. We'd booked our table for 1 pm, arriving a few minutes early. Our drinks order was taken very quickly, food order soon after that and then the waiting began, My friend and I had only ordered small plates, hallumi fries and the smoked salmon pate plus a side of fries so we didn't really expect to have to wait 45 minutes to be served, especially galling when other patrons who had arrived after us were being served main meals. Food was fine but just underwhelming. As for the stunning city views...fine if you're looking towards the cathedral but the other side is overlooking derelict buildings and run down areas. All in all, had a good time because of the company I was in but I couldn't recommend it.

Place looked very good from the reviews we checked out before going. The view is great and the service was excellent however the food was disappointing. I paid £15 for a tiny amount of cauliflower and quinoa and my friends had the vegan burger and fries which they said was OK. I would say on a hot summers day/night it would be great to go for drinks here for the view and vibe but the food is underwhelming and overpriced.

We have been here before so knew what to expect. View is of a city so all roof tops and cathederal, very intersting. Staff friendly and helpful.We are use to London prices so felt the priceses for the meal good. We had a 3 course meal, wine,and cocktail and cost £60 each which we felt was very resonable. Food had different sauces and vegatables and we enjoyed it.

Great place for some time away, but very pricey. They more cater for the rich so don't expect a good deal. But was a fun experience.

What once was my favourite restaurant in Norwich has sadly gone downhill over the last year, unfortunately now not somewhere I will be looking to return. Have tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and had a few meals and an afternoon tea experience within the past year. Food was extremely average for the cost. Previously I didn’t mind the cost as it really was worth every penny. But they seem to have changed the menu and quality, both not in a good way, but kept higher prices, and sadly it isn’t worth it. Visited recently for an afternoon tea experience with my family, and the waiter kept calling us ‘babe’ and ‘love’ which I found very inappropriate. Especially as it was for my nanny’s birthday celebration and wanted her to experience the views and gorgeous setting, however she mentioned how unprofessional calling a group of ladies having afternoon tea ‘babe’ was. Was very odd. We also had pre ordered our menu, and at the table had just mentioned to the waitress about one was vegetarian (told on the phone prior) and she said they hadn’t made a note of that, so had quite a long wait. Another family asked if we could have the ham sandwiches without mustard and she mentioned they were already pre made (and tasted like they had been pre made for quite some time) but then we waited quite a long time to have it served, it didn’t make sense. Also took a long time to get cutlery/ ask for drinks etc Rooftop gardens is unfortunately not what it once was. The strange change in the social media marketing and random garage & afrobeats music events make it seem like they have gone down a completely different route, and now is not somewhere I would go for a more up market meal. It feels a bit all over the place and now not somewhere I will be returning. Would love to see it return to how it was ran & organised a couple of years back, as the string of bad reviews I have seen recently is really disappointing for those who built rooftop up to be what it once was.

Really enjoyed the food, especially the dessert, service was great and was really nice being out on the rooftop. All round great experience.

All style no substance. It's trying to be a London rooftop bar but the aesthetic is not hitting. When we showed up they acted like we were fools for not making a reservation, only to go outside to an empty terrace (which remained empty the whole time we were there). Wine was warm. Bread we ate was stale.

Service was exceptional. Food was very poor. My rare steak was GREY in colour and chewy. And how they managed to get such little flavour from my partner's lobster is beyond me. Cocktails & desserts were delicious. Place is well decorated and well operated but the chefs need to step it up, disappointed.

Absolutely fabulous place, once you get the lift up there from what appears to be an ordinary office block, but once you do - WOW! The views are just great. The staff were initially attentive, but once sat there appeared to be just the one waiter for our whole part of the sizeable room. He was extremely polite, attentive and professional, but just completely over-worked. This meant there were over-long delays in service. The annoying thing was that the staff on the front desk were just standing around, chatting. Management needs to re-allocate them to chip in with serving customers, to take the pressure off the poor waiter. No complaints about the food, which was of a very high standard, except the broccoli was a little al dente for my taste. Pricing is fair and reasonable. I really would thoroughly recommend Rooftop Gardens.

Funny place out off the main town drinks were expensive

I came here with my best friend for botttomless brunch yesterday. We had the absolute bestest time ever, service was amazing (David- you’re an absolute star) The drinks were fast and tasted great, the food was good, we cannot recommend it enough. The lovely staff here really made it so special for us, so attentive and funny! Constantly checking on us and topping up our drinks if we needed. We cannot wait to come back!! The music playing was so fun too, the team here are incredible. The bar staff were wonderful too. Big shout out too Mira, David, becks, Ollie, tom, Nat and Allie. Thankyou all!!!! Found strand of hair in soup ..ordered greek salad ..nothing like a greek salad my husband had burger which he only ate part of ..my husband did complain about the food to the manager which we didn't get charged..I had high hopes of this place but was so disappointed with food

I rarely leave bad reviews, but I came with my family of 5 for lunch, and everyone had a bad experience. The food quality wasn't great, overpriced, vegan burger was overcooked, pasta was over sauced, and the worst part was the service time and quality. Walked in around 1pm for our reservation, and didn't get our main order till around 2:30pm. The server took a long time to take our order and was condescending when asked about why the food was taking over 45 minutes to get served. We also had kids with us who were starving and started crying about how long the food was taking and couldn't even eat half their meals because they disliked it. We left the place around 3 pm, 2 hours later, unsatiafied with the food and service and paid 140 pounds for a bad experience. Likely won't be coming here again for main meals or with family. To be fair though, the place does have a very nice outdoor atmosphere to be enjoyed when the weather is nice. It deserves 4 stars. It's great to visit for a simple drink or pastry with friends. Otherwise, I don't recommend it for main meals and family gatherings.

Absolutely loved it here, we hadn't booked and they were more than accommodating as the staff were great. Lovely venue. The food was amazing. We shared the crispy lamb to start and then I went for the chalk stream trout for main and my partner had the pork belly. All lovely in a great rooftop location. Definitely recommend it here 😘👌

2.5 Food was decent. Nothing special but not terrible either. Cocktails poor value for money and not that great. Service was poor, slow and forgetful. Table was so rocky and took a few asks for some tissue to put under the leg. Even when it came there was no offer to fix it for us. So many times had to ask for water before it came. Seemed to be plenty of staff but so hard to catch their eye. Wrong wine served too. Final “insult” was after I left. I needed a full VAT receipt and after contacting restaurant 4 times in the space of 10 days, no one bothered to get back to me. I’m still waiting. I entertain a lot of customers in Norwich and Rooftop Gardens have ruined the chance of getting any repeat business from me.

David was a lovely waiter, made the experience above and beyond.

First time ive been and the outside area and resteraunt decor are really great, not really anywhere else in norwich like it. Food was disappointing and lazy but would return just for drinks.

We were a party of 8, we'd pre-ordered our food. Service from Mira was great, and had a lovely chilled vibe. Good value for money. We will be returning.

They can really do with some umbrellas on sunny days. Other than that not bad!

Food was medioca, the crayfish was like eating rubber. If you want any condiments you'll need to ask as they won't. Over priced for the quality of food you end up with. The views are great though, shame about the food.

We had a birthday meal here, and most of us agreed we won’t be returning. The food was below average considering the hype, pre-booking, deposit, and price. As a large group, we ordered a variety of meals from different parts of the menu, including steak, lamb, seafood platter, pork, fish, and chicken. Most dishes were either overcooked, under-seasoned, or just below average and bland. The one star is for the barman, who was lovely and provided great service. However, the cocktail was average for £11. Upon arrival, we waited for eight minutes at the entrance while the manager, Liam, was on the phone, ignoring us. He did not get someone to attend to us despite being busy. Eventually, we caught the attention of another lovely waiter who assisted us. The overall service was poor, with staff not paying attention. We had to ask for basics like cutlery with dessert and for the table to be cleared by the two waitresses who attended our table. One waitress spilled something on my white jacket. They are clearly inexperienced in providing great service to a large group. We were seated near the waterfall feature, and the entire floor was soaked, which is a safety hazard. I slipped twice in my sandals, my child's shoes were soaked, a guest's dress got wet, many of our trainers were soaked, and our bags got wet, leaving us with cold feet during dinner. Birthday cards fell on the floor and got soaked. When we complained to the waitress, she quickly dismissed us, saying it had nothing to do with her and told us to speak to the manager. The manager, Liam, was rude and unprofessional, saying, "What do you want me to do? You're acting like it's me and my staff's fault. You're the only one complaining." He did not apologize for the inconvenience and was not proactive in offering any solution. However, he did go check and confirm that the floor was flooded. The waitresses knew as well, as we had mentioned it to them, but they clearly ignored it. They had switched off two of the three water features when we had arrived, indicating something was wrong. When we suggested offering a voucher due to the flooded floor, he agreed but then disappeared just before we left. We decided to leave our reviews here and advise others to avoid this place. They were pretentious but could not live up to the hype with the food, atmosphere, or service.

Food was excellent, well presented and fresh. Service was not the best, as it was very busy; we had to wait for spoons as they weren't given out with dessert and the starters arrived before the drinks.... But the brownie and the beautiful view of the cathedral in the evening sky made up for it. The roof was open and there were heaters on after the sun went down.

Really lovely place to look at, but the rest of our experience was personally not quite there. The service was really bad, not sure if this was due to sickness or just because the amount of people. But we booked a table for 7, we were then told to wait didn’t get seated to 7:30, roles reverse we would have been refused service. Service was really struggling, the waiting staff were nice but very stressed and under a lot of pressure. Food was average, wouldn’t rant and rave about it, the burgers were good but the pasta was cold and the flavours were lost. Don’t feel the food is worth the cost. I have been to rooftop gardens in previous years and it usually is quite nice. It’s just a shame on this occasion it was pretty poor considering the quality they try to provide and strive to do.

Very overrated place full of a certain type of crowd. Other reviews seem to question the same, this is definitely not the place for a romantic meal, more for a hen or stag do. The food was very basic - a burger so dry it was inedible. You can make better food at home! Drinks extremely expensive and unusual combinations, but due to the cost you feel you can’t waste it! Toilets are a floor down which is not a problem, however they were a mess inside and not worth visiting. The waiter continuously called us ‘babe’ and ‘my love’ which made us extremely uncomfortable. I understand the need to build a rapport with your customers but please remain professional. Next time will definitely be going to one of the wonderful places in the city centre. Stay clear of this tired, overrated bar/restaurant.

Bah. What’s the point of an allowing a party of people to book at the Rood Top Gardens if you have rented the actual roof top garden to private parties? If I’d have known that I would have book at any other indoor restaurant with my 8 colleagues. Very disappointing.

The service and atmosphere are amazing. I went there on a Sunday afternoon, and I had a Sunday roast. The roast was a little bit dry, and it wasn’t what I had expected from a normal roast. Needless to say everything else was great, so I give it 4 stars.

The venue is great but unfortunately the staff, and their service is awful. Called a whole week in advance for a table of four for cocktails. When we got there one staff member told us we had a table and another told us it was a first come and first serve basis, and no tables were available. We waited for one table to become available and when it did they told us we couldn’t sit there because someone had reserved that table. Honestly, the staff were awful unapologetic and rude. They have no idea how to deliver customer service, courtesy or professionalism. £50 for four cocktails and when the waitress came and brought it to us she spilled the cocktail all over the table and on us, my friend was wearing white as it was a hendo celebration. I will never go back to this venue simply because of the unprofessionalism from the staff.

I booked a table for 18:30. Had to wait half an hour for the table as people weren't leaving and it was not ready. This was annoying. I had booked so they should have been made to leave as soon as we arrived. I also stated that this was for someones birthday. Nothing ever came regarding this. Whereas other people got a little dessert with a sparkler and got sung happy birthday. No issues with anything else other than one steak was very chewy and fatty.

I recently visited Rooftop Gardens in Norwich, and my experience was nothing short of a culinary disaster. To start, I ordered the bruschetta, which was a complete letdown. The bread was stale and hard, making it nearly impossible to chew. The tomatoes were flavorless and the entire dish was drenched in a bland, watery sauce that seemed to have no seasoning whatsoever. I've had better bruschetta at a fast-food joint. For my main course, I opted for the steak and chips, hoping for a classic, satisfying meal. What I got was a travesty. The steak was overcooked, tough, and dry, with zero seasoning. It was as if they had simply thrown a piece of low-grade meat on the grill without any care. The chips were equally disappointing – soggy, greasy, and cold. It was obvious they had been sitting out for a while before they reached my table. Hoping to salvage the evening with dessert, I ordered the chocolate brownie ice cream. This was perhaps the biggest insult of all. The brownie was hard as a rock, with an artificial, plastic-like taste that made me question if it was even made in-house. The ice cream was the only semi-decent part, but it was overshadowed by the horrible brownie. To top it off, the service was slow and uninterested. The staff seemed more concerned with chatting among themselves than attending to the customers. Overall, my experience at Rooftop Gardens was nothing short of abysmal. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent meal in Norwich. Save your money and go elsewhere

Beautiful rooftop dining areas- perfect for an afternoon beverage or meal. The menu is clearly marked for allergens and dietary restrictions. Service was slow and we asked multiple times for water refills. The salad was good but the chicken was overcooked for all orders. The 3 course menu option is the way to go.

Lovely atmosphere (this is the reason to come here). Friendly service but a little pricey

I went with a booked hen party of 9 people for afternoon tea. The table was laid for 8 people which was easily changed but teas were only catered for 8 people but charged for 9 people. We had to ask for tea and coffee to be brought to the table as didn't come. Too many scones and far too big. Dont need chees and fruit scones but i suppose theyre bulky! The sandwiches not very impressive and lacking flavour but will say the sausage rolls were delicious. Found at the end there were items added to the bill that we didn't have like expensive cocktails! Think it's expensive for what you get. I could have a nice meal out for that price. Won't be going again.

Recently visited this place for my Wife birthday… ordered their burger and chips.. the food was really bad.. just two dired beef patty with a bit of pickle for 16 pounds and load of chips..wife had caesar really plain… Ambiance is nice drinks are okay

Our party of 6 were booked in for 8pm, by 9:45pm we were still waiting for our main courses, having had starters in a reasonable time. When the food turned up only 1 meal was acceptable. 4 were incomplete and 1 cold. In the end the reheated meal was too dry and 1 of the 4 incomplete meals was never completed despite being asked twice. The manager changed our bill and was professional about it, which was appreciated and we thanked him, but why was he put in this position? In my view the venue needs to decide what it really wants to be because fine dining it certainly is not. The venue is nice, though sitting outside in June is very different to December. However there were at least 4 hen parties, which make considerable demands on any kitchen team due to their size, we felt that as a small group we were overlooked. I’ve been before, last time in 2022 and the experience was not dissimilar, no I didn’t book this time, I wouldn’t have. If you like people watching you’ll have a ball, selfie culture and stag/hen enjoyment galore, it’s not a place for a romantic dinner for 2! I hope the management decide what the future holds soon, or perhaps the profits are where they need to be so no changes needed.

Bee was a legend, lovely staff, lovely food and allowing us to try the soup of the day and a milkshake which is in the process, a great place for a birthday.

Fantastic view with fantastic food. It is located in an office-looking building, but there are signs outside to direct you in. The restaurant can be very loud and lively, so it might not be the perfect place for a private moment, but it definitely has a fun, delightful ambience which I enjoyed a lot.

Food was average. Starters did not turn up at the same time or did not turn up at all! Ordered prosecco and water bucket for the prosecco ended up on a dress of a guest and on the table. Waitress did not even notice. More attention to detail needed.

Just had a great dining experience at the Roof Top Gardens on the 11th May lovely outdoor area with fab views and wonderful food - Bex was amazing she is an asset to the restaurant with her lovely helpful and engaging personality - we will be back 👍

Lovely environment but it is definitely style over substance. The food was acceptable but not mindblowing and the drinks were incredibly sweet. However, if you enjoy people watching this is the place to go, instagram heaven and posing galore!

An amazing place, we had lunch on the outside terrace and it was great. The food was attractively presented and very tasty. We had the fixed price menu and we were not disappointed either by the quality or the portion size. My wife has coeliac disease and they were very aware of this and made it very clear her food was gluten free. The views of the cathedral are brilliant and the vertical planters and waterfalls on one wall add to the experience. Our server was very friendly, absolutely no complaints, I’d definitely go back.

Had an amazing experience in there with my boyfriend, one of the waiter that served us tonight was called Mari and he was very helpful and made us feel really comfortable and very welcomed in there, we had a better experience because he served us, making the atmosphere of the restaurant a whole lot better, without mentioning the nice choice of musics play throughout the evening

7 of us had an amazing evening here last night celebrating my niece’s 30th birthday, Had a great table, the best waiter we’ve come across for years (sorry that we didn’t get his name but he looked a bit like Chris Martin / Chris Ramsey LOL) - he was charming, funny, professional & casual in a good way, he really looked after us…… he is a credit to the place ! Food was excellent, especially all of the steaks. Restaurant was really busy too so they all worked very hard last night !! We’ll be back thank you for a lovely meal !

Really disappointed for what appears to be a higher end restaurant. Mojitos that 3 of us sent back, that's the most basic of a cocktail. Espresso martinis that 2 of us couldn't finish. Pork belly that was medium rare. All were removed from the bill. However, should never have been put on the table.

First time to Norwich found this place on Google excepts dogs on outside terrace which is heated Staff are excellent and friendly, food and cocktails are excellent great place to come and relax even on a windy cold Wednesday Bex and Glen were great 👍

A lovely respite and get away from the city. A rooftop garden bar and restaurant on the 6th floor, also with heated outdoor areas. Very friendly and helpful staff. We went for afternoon cocktails and bar snacks, chilling for a couple of hours. Vegan wine and bar snacks clearly labelled.

Wa favourite restaurant in Norwich at the time. However I've updated my review, as the last 2 times I've been here, the food has not been great.

This is a really pretty place. All staff are extra friendly. The food was delicious but not cheap and definitely not fast! (The chicken supreme is on the bone which I don't like and was glad I checked first!)

While this place has an amazing view to the cathedral and it is located in the city centre, the cocktails and people running it are a fail. Very rude response from the manager when raised that the door to the outdoor area is broken and we were freezing by the bar while paid £30 roughly for 2 cocktails.

Fantastic restaurant that catered for my gluten and lactose intolerance brilliantly!

On a Saturday lunchtime it lacked atmosphere. In the cold light if day you coukd tell the quirky decoration was very cheap and borderline tacky. Unfortunately, on my visit someone had left the toilets in an unacceptable state. For a luxury destination the visit to the toilet on the next floor down in an office block detracted from any sense of style.

My first time going there and I enjoyed every bit of it. I had booked in advance for the outdoor sitting, but couldn't make it due to the rain. Indoor was nice, so it was all good. I enjoyed the meal and the services. Polite and friendly staff, ever ready to help.

went on Valentine’s Day, and the food was excellent, and the lady who served us (who’s name I didn’t want to mess up) was amazing, super lovely and kind, and service was quick. Will be recommending to friends and family :)

Fantastic food, great service, and an amazing venue. If you want to find fault with anything it's the dubious worn out corporate street frontage as the place is in an office building. Get past that and this is honestly one of the best places in Norwich. Been here many times, always good, some of the best food I've had from anywhere. Great job all round.

The food was good but the service was slow and it was very draughty on a cold January evening. Better suited for Summer events. No toilets available on the same floor so you had to go down a flight. Shabby entrance hall.

Group of 8 booked in. Put onto a nice round table to seat us all. Visited in January and the windows are draughty, we all ended up very cold and had to stack up coats to block some of the cold air blowing on our necks. No assistance was offered from the restaurant and they weren't keen to move us to a different table. I ordered the steak, medium rare, it came well done. My wife had the burger, also overcooked and dry. The restaurant was not full I might add fewer than half the tables were seated from my estimate. The main course arrived in good time but desserts took a very long time and we're very staggered across the 8 members of our party. The server was polite and friendly but had not essence of pace.

Great food & drinks, nice atmosphere. Would plan to visit again next time we are in the area.

Didn't mention kitchen close at 9:15pm and I had to walk away with hungry stomach. Try to call them and no one is picking it up. Do something please.

I booked a table here for my Fiancées 30th birthday but a few days prior to her birthday they’ve informed me they are shut on Tuesdays. Surely they’d have known this when I booked and surely they could have informed me much earlier. Absolutely shocking and now I need to find a nice restaurant, at short notice, with availability, for her 30th birthday.
