Wonderful food for both adults and children, a warm cosy atmosphere and really friendly staff. We stopped here on the way back from a bit of a stressful Christmas shopping trip and came out of here feeling happier and relaxed. Worth a visit

Excellent 👌, we've been regularly visiting the roebuck for 7 plus years now and we still can't fault it. Very festive at the moment and as always the entire team were amazing. A very big thank you and a very happy Christmas to you all

Comfortable space that felt warm and cosy from the chill outside. Great selection of drinks, including a spiced gin I haven't seen before which was lovely. Service was friendly and Alex was very helpful, attending to any needs. Food was good, especially the skin-on fries. All topped off with toffee pudding and ice cream! A lovely treat!

I recently had the opportunity to experience an afternoon tea that I had anticipated with great enthusiasm, having enjoyed several delightful experiences in the past. However, I was disappointed to find that the price had increased to £17.50 per person, and the quality of the offerings did not meet expectations. The selection included shop-bought scones, dry burger bun halves (for sandwiches) and a few finger sandwiches, and a small piece of pre-packaged cake for each guest, which seemed inadequate for the £52.50 total cost for three people. Given the circumstances, we chose to decline the service and seek an alternative venue. This experience highlighted MASSIVE areas for improvement and serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining high standards in hospitality. I would recommend AVOIDING this venue for afternoon tea!

Wrong main course delivered. Sauces which were ordered did not arrive. Had to ask twice to pay bill. Very poor.

Situated near Ashdown Forrest, the Roebuck has plenty of parking and a nice restaurant to finish off your day's walking. Typical gastro pub menu with some nice surprises (sticky toffee pudding was awesome!) in a lovely dining area.

Very good standard of rooms, food and service. A pleasant welcome with fantastic decor. There is parking and also an overflow parking area. My room was very clean and spacious with a high quality and commodity bed. Strong WiFi and a good flat screen TV in the room. I'll most certainly stay here again when working in the Hartfield area. Highly recommend, no faults at all.

I wasn't expecting much from a chain pub, but despite the large menu the food quality was surprisingly good, and reasonably priced (especially with AA discount). Restaurant had a pianist, and the bar area is comfortable and has a pool table.

We had dinner here, and it was disappointing. We chose to come here because of the wide range of vegetarian dishes on the menu, but they didn't have the one my husband wanted. We both had the Beyond burger, which came with fries and onion rings. Initially, I thought they'd forgotten our onion rings, but then I noticed them - all TWO of them. It was an embarrasingly small portion size, and the burger was only luke warm. The starters were fine, but the portion size was tiny. My husband's ciabatta did not come with butter, whereas mine did, so he had to request it. There was a lot of noise coming from the staff in the kitchen, and the paper napkins were extremely poor quality, along with the cutlery. The whole place looked in need of some updating. Overall, it wasn't a great experience and it represented poor value for money.

This is our 2nd visit to The Roebuck Inn. It's in a great location for exploring Ashdown Forest - home of Winnie the Pooh & friends. Room was clean & comfortable, food good as was the service. Would use again.

We've been here a few times and when you know what to order the food isn't bad but the prices are very odd. £1 for a fantastic kids fruit salad but £3.95 for a carton of fruit juice! The sausages and mash both were microwaved. Once you've worked out what isn't microwaved you can probably get quite a good meal as the ingredients aren't bad but it's hard to know. Could use some updating. The staff all seem really nice though and looked after us well

Been here a few times and it's a nice place to go for dinner. Had the pork roast which was good but the Yorkshire puddings were a bit rubbery. Plenty of food choice on the menu and a wide drink range too. Worth a visit if in the area.

Nice and quaint hotel/pub/bar situated in Wych Cross. If you are looking to get out of the city or spend some time in a nice and quiet area this is pretty decent place with reasonable prices and comfy beds. Added bonus is that it's pretty close to Gatwick Airport, so decent place to spend the evening before the flight, get some food and drink, then catch a flight. Also there is a pretty large dining area with separate bar as well as large function room. Ideal if you want to host an event, business meeting or a wedding reception. The function room backs on to a huge garden and seating area at the back that is well maintained which I think is fantastic if you have a lot of people or want to turn kids loose and let them play.

--- 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely fantastic stay at the Roe Buck Hotel on Forrest Row! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed with the nearly regal atmosphere of my room. It was the best night's sleep I've had in a long time, thanks to the incredibly comfortable accommodations. The customer service was top-notch; Alex and the team went above and beyond to ensure my stay was exceptional. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality experience! --

The Roebuck is an old English coaching inn ideally located within minutes of the massively overrated and overpriced Ashdown Park hotel ( which makes it ideal accommodation if you are attending a wedding there). It has no pretentions of grandeur, it just offers excellent value and service. Yes the corridors and rooms maybe a bit dated in style, but everything works , the rooms are well equipped with a decent TV, kettle and tea and coffee, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, lots of storage , a good bed, plenty of pillows , a desk and chair and a full bathroom. Everywhere was very clean. The staff are excellent, welcoming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast ( I had a full English) was very good quality and plentiful. Outside there is plenty of parking and places to sit. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

One of the worst Sunday roasts we have ever had. Everything was reheated, the meat couldn’t even be cut. Never experienced rubberised Yorkshire puddings before. Won’t be returning.

Stayed a few nights. Double room was large, a little tired decor wise, but very clean and quite comfortable. Quite a few corridors to navigate to get to it. Wall was a little thin between my room and next door (heard the couple talking next door at 2am in mornining very clearly. Luckily they didn't have a long discussion!). Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, hot food option brought out quickly. Good continental buffet selection. Plenty of parking space down behind the front parking, so all good even when pub is busy. Didn't have dinner here, so can't comment on that. I would stay again.

Stayed for a couple of nights while exploring Lewes, Charleston in Firle and Brighton. Taking into account the age of the building, room was excellent, good facilities. James and the team were superb throughout our stay. Service both evenings and breakfast was quick. Breakfast had a great selection both continental and cooked. Evening meals were freshly cooked, well presented and good value for money. There are also deals on some nights which help! Wine was good, as were the cocktails. Would recommend and definitely stay again when in the area!

My brother and I took our 94 year old mum for a special Sunday lunch at The Barley Mow. My mum is in a wheelchair and the staff took care to make sure she was comfortable and warm by the welcoming woodstove. It's a lovely old Downland pub and was festively decorated. The Sunday roasts were delicious. The veg were perfectly cooked, outstanding roasties and some lovely little extras. I opted for the veggie roast and it was so nice to be treated by something so delightfully different from nut roast (which I do like, but this stuffed squash was something else!). We were so beautifully looked after that we really didn't want to leave and anyway we couldn't resist the sticky date pudding. We were given a lovely, joyous dining experience in a beautiful, relaxed environment with high standards of cuisine, comfort and style. Well done, new owners. We'll be back! Ms Slot
