Hi, I’ve lived in Rayleigh for a few years and nipped in for lunch with a friend. What a lovely pub! Friendly staff, we both had steak which was very good. Clean pub, and a bright and airy atmosphere. I would definitely go back 👍

Poorly trained staff member who thought I had too much to drink because I stumbled up to the bar. I explained it was because of my medical condition which affects my balancing. The lady didn’t want to know….. Me and a friend were escorted out by the security staff because of this. My friend returned and was let back in to speak to both the lady and her manager. They had no explanation for their actions, looked worried and would not give their full names. Discrimination at its worst.

My wife and I were invited to the Roebuck in Rayleigh by a long term friend to celebrate his 73rd birthday over a couple of drinks and something to eat. Sadly to say it was not a great experience. One meal, pie and mash. arrived without any gravy the recipient being told that the kitchen had run out and basically take it or leave it! Waiting for drinks took an age compounded by the fact that it was a mid week evening when the pub was virtually empty. Another of our group who had asked to be served after an unnessary long wait was told that the staff were too busy even though he was the only one stood at the bar. Another staff member then came over, pro porting to be the assistant manageress, telling him that our table was no longer going to be served as he was being offensive to the staff and would our group all please leave. What compounded the evening for me was a small weedy scruffy looking guy with a beard then turned up claiming to be the proper manager, he then put on a Spartacus act to heard us all out of the door like he was some kind of tough guy in front of all his girls, what a Pratt. You don't get this kind of excitement in the Legion, we won't be back.

Its usually the Regular Wetherspoons what it says on the tin, but last visit Mothers day just passed was terrible, 1 coffee machine working(been like that for ages), No Brown/HP sauce, 1 slice of toast given when it should be 2 for Toast and Preserves, 1 Mushroom the size of a 50p on the Large Breakfast, long queue at the coffee machine, burnt bacon served up with luke warm eggs and beans, guessing they had issues in the Kitchen as I over heard a conversation, regarding kitchen staff, unacceptable for this Chain a chain we like very much, better off to bring your own HP as its the only way to gaurantee you will have some. 2 out of 5 on the day, a poor show for some as it was Mothers Day.

£5 for pint ale and medium rose, cant go wrong 👌 great prices

Waiting time at the bar is sometimes herondous, Some of the management need training in politenes and the only place i know where you put your coat on before you go in because the aircon is always on freezing

Fast friendly service, food arrived piping hot, staff very attentive.

Filthy dirty. Every empty table had plates and glasses on despite it not being busy at all. Our table had fingernail clippings on! Loads of food on the floor under the tables too. Typical Spoons.

Been shopping locally so thought we would try here for a quick bite to eat. Prices are very reasonable, its Weatherspoon's and they are generally all the same. Not that i use them often. It was a weekend afternoon, so very busy, we found a table and the waitress came straight over and cleared away, cleaned up and reset the table within minutes. Very polite and friendly. Our order was placed at the bar, which despite the hoards of people, was actually a swift and easy event. Our food was presented nicely, cooked well, very tasty and served in good time. All in all a good experience. Shame our local one in Leigh on sea is not up to the Roebucks standards

The Roebuck is a really good Wetherspoon Pub.

The food was good and the service was nice.

Great pub for cheap drinks . But there is no need to turn heating off to pay for it .I understand if it is full up which it can be Friday/Saturdays after 8.00 But us regulars go in at 3/4 pm

Chaz JJ We were sitting opposite you when you complained. The manageress was polite and listened to your concerns. And to be honest I was embarrassed for her. You were loud, rude and verbally aggressive. Far dues, it’s always annoying when food is slow and missing but there are ways to complain. The bit that really surprises me is that the end of your review, you actually said “food and drink were fine” Possibly the mumbles you heard was from us and definitely stronger at what you possibly heard.

Busy night, Friday. Reasonably priced drinks. Go early to get a table. Can become loud with groups of friends.

We only popped in for a quick drink after lunch. The pub was fairly busy, but there were only 4 of us at the bar. There was only 1 member of staff serving and after a good 10 minute wait, we were served. Very happy with the prices and very happy with the atmosphere! I think 1 additional member would have been beneficial, but I would go back, mainly for the prices and secondly for the atmosphere.

Good coffee at a reasonable price but serve yourself

Amongst our order, which took over 30 minutes to arrive, was the Christmas special. Sarah conducted a check back.we told her the food was tasty, but the winter vegetables were hiding, i.e., invisible, and we never could find the parsnips! And a 30-minute wait for the food was excessive, especially when we were not preadvised. Sarah offered to ask her manager to help. Over 10 minutes later, Laura, i later discovered the manager, strolled over hands in pockets. What she asked is the problem. I bought her up to speed, very slow service and food, Christmas dinner, not as per menu. Her answer or rectification--Stop shouting, well, well......if i shouted, the whole place would have reacted. If this is the standard of manager Wetherspoons employs, I feel sorry for them. Laura you are no longer in the playground. Grow up. Wetherspoons employ people who can manage. Shame, really, food and drink were fine. As she , it, manager lol, walked away she was heard to mumble.....I've had enough of you. Wetherspoons, you have a good business don't spoil it .

i work for wetherspoons and its a big thing about getting a check back as its our bonus for everyone but the roebuck we didnt get anything even left the dirty plates on the table when we finished but then again the 2 young lads didnt seem bothered

Cant fault the food when you eventually get it x I ordered main and dessert my friend ordered main x I received and ate my main whilst my friend was still waiting for her main x Went to bar and ask for my dessert and where my friends meal was x Around 20 minuets later my friends main arrived I asked about my the dessert warm cookie dough was and the girl said "they are doing it now " Goodooh at least we will both be eating the same time x Alas no my friend finished her meal and I was sitting their still waiting for my dessert x.it eventually arrived 15 minuets after she finished eating x We must of been in their for over a good 3 hours x Nothing worse than eating on your own x Shame this happened as we often pop in here for lunch whilst shopping in Rayleigh x unfortunately we will have to eat elsewhere as it took up to much of our time x Regards 2 unhappy old shoppers x

It was the most shocking dreadful taste I have ever had. How can u muck up an American breakfast. Everything came out over cooked cold, tasteless oh sorry there was taste of old oil. Gross so we had toast but could not eat that it as it was cold bread basically!!!

Great place to eat and drink if you're in Rayleigh! Food is lovely, great choices for draft beer and wine, the prices are reasonable, the pub is spacious and clean and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming!

We used to come here every now and then and always found it it good, but we have not visited for about a year. In that time it’s gone completely downhill. I do not know if they are training a new chief or something else, but everything we ordered was rubbish. Chips (of which there were about 5 each) and burgers cremated. Chicken overdone and dry. Even a baked potato and pizza ruined. Mentioned the problems to a server who seemed little interested. We will never return to this pub. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

It's OK. It's a Wetherspoon. No music, no atmosphere, cheap beer. Depends what you like really. Service was slow the night I visited, odd as the place was empty. Used the App to order drinks to see if it was any quicker, but went and collected them myself. It is what it is.

Nice quiet modern pub, no long waits, food comes out hot and drinks come out cold located about 10minutes walk from the train station or 2 minutes to a taxi rank or bus stop

A nice little spoons on the High Street with seating out the front as well as a small strip outside opposite the bar that let's in so much light - it's great. The pub wasn't the usual dark wood which I think gave it a much lighter and relaxing feel. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. The fish and chips was as good as always and the Guinness was excellent.

Everytime I have visited this pub I'm always surprised it's aloud to be open to public. As you walk through the doors you are greeted by a load of fruit flies- this has happened the last three times I've visited. A little concerning when food is prepared on this premises. I nearly always order through the app because whenever I go to the bar I get ignored, its clear the regulars are favoured over me. Today I did this and was kept waiting for my food for about 40 minutes. No one apologised and the waitor literally slammed it on the table. I still hadn't received my drink at this point too. I think the pub needs a good deep clean and refurb and staff need training on basic customer service.

All staff super-friendly and very clean and tidy. Food decent enough and great value.

This is my local Wetherspoons. Its been in the town for over 20 years now and my last visit was most disappointing. I usually have a Burger and chips, I ordered a American burger, it was just that. Two beef patties in a bun and little salad, hardly any chips. The beef patties were OK but nothing special, I can get better from the fast food chains down at Rayleigh weir. The Staff attitude left something to be desired. I to ask twice for the table to be cleared and cleaned. Not acceptable and it will be a while before I go back.

Busy Saturday and took a long time to get food.

We both had medium rare 8oz sirloin stake with chips & side salads. I was lucky and could eat approximately 45% of mine, my wife was less fortunate and found her's virtually uneatable, due to the presence of so much gristle. Sent hers back and next one was much like mine. Chips were fine. I had a mediterranean salad and her's was a normal mixed salad. Both were very good. Drinks fine. As was the sevice. To sum up: - we will avoid ordering any steaks here again. We have eaten here several times in the past, ordering other meals and no had any problems. The quality of their steak were tasty but appalling to say the least.

Normally ok ish food but tonight , nope definitely not good , lumpy mash part cold ,dried reheated sausages and lumpy gravy looks like that was just reheated, nothing freshly cooked, such a simple dinner that they can't get right , bad showing roebuck.☹️

One of the coffee machines was out of order, and the other wasn't dispensing all the drink options. Table top was sticky and dirty.

As usual good food, great beer and fantastic prices.

Food has definitely declined in recent months, staff are not very friendly and atmosphere on occasion is too loud. 😔

OK place for couple of hours before going on

Placed family breakfast order via app for 5 people. (10:30am) Drinks arrived 15 minutes later. Half hour later (45 minutes after placing order) no food had arrived. All tables around us in same position no food was being brought out. Myself and other customers went to bar to complain. Some of these customers had been waiting over an hour. To be told someone had messed the shifts up and the bar staff have no control over the kitchen but they were very short staffed in the kitchen. While I was at the bar questioning where our order was my wife asked a member of staff clearing tables about why no food was coming out. The man was extremely strssed out but was also rude to my wife. In the end we asked for a refund and left. A poor show for what was supposed to be a father's day breakfast. In my opinion there was team effort today in the roebuck. No one seemed to care the ship had sunk and the staff were just waiting for home time.

Food and drink very reasonably priced and atmosphere is good as well.

Only problem for me was the toilets where upstairs and I have a disability

Absolute shocking service when was told we needed to pay for extra cheese in my children’s meal 35 mins after ordering! Was happy to do so but when I asked for a receipt I soon realised that they had over charged us anyway so when telling them this the lady that was quick enough to come over and tell me I had to pay extra tried to tell me I was wrong, then brought my children’s meals out with no cheese absolutely freezing cold. Tutting and bring rude!! Amazing customer service!! NOT!! So thank you, my children are starving at 8pm at night. Ended up getting a refund that takes 5-7 days!! Joke. Thanks jade!!!!

The food here has really gone down hill since the new management have taken over! We ordered our meal and my partners meal came out first with half his order missing. He asked where my meal was and they said they were still cooking it. He sent it back and asked for replacement as we wanted to eat together and half his food was missing. When they delivered our order my partners meal was fine but I got an awful meal. My pie was cold and the mash was awful! It was more a child’s portions than an adults! When we complained the staff asked if we wanted the food put under the heater! Avoid avoid avoid!!

Great place to be and not bad prices

Visited Saturday lunch time at 12.30pm as a family of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids). Only 1 table big enough free which we didn't realise until we'd sat down was next to a large group of loud men who were already drunk. Nowhere else...

I've not eaten in here for a while but when I returned I was shocked by the meal I purchased. The prices has gone up and the portions have got smaller. Wetherspoon have usually be fair with prices and good with portions but this clearly isn't the case anymore, I definitely won't be returning!

Absolutely disgusting we had the roast dinner instant mash carrots and stuffing were not cooked. The table was so dirty stuff still on them the staff were just walking about didn't even ask how our meal was sent emails but no reply definitely don't recommen UPDATE still haven't replied 2 my emails y should we have 2 waste our money on rubbish!!!!

Went for my usual pint over the Xmas period and surprise a really lovely new bar lady. Good food as always and a lovely pint.

Food very poor today.We chose the lunch time special of fish and chips but it was inedible. The fish was thin, tired and leathery with thick, dry and hard batter. When we complained, the server said that he would look into it but disappeared. Later, he apologised and accepted that the fish wasn't fresh. Noo refund was offered, and he grudgingly agreed to a couple of drinks.

Me and my mrs were in on Christmas Eve and we were served by peony all night. She’s a top quality bartender who really puts the service into customer service. Would definitely recommend coming just for the service never mind the cheap drink!

Had a lovely lunch and afternoon, drinks were reasonable. Very nice.

Always understaffed. A busy Saturday morning and one person serving behind the bar and one bringing out food. No one to clear tables. When we asked for the one drinks machine to be topped up so we could have coffee we were told ‘I’ll do it when I have time’. There were children constantly running backwards and forwards. I won’t be back in a hurry.
