Roebuck in Rochford

Avoid on a Sunday morning it's like a children's playground, noisy kids running around. It even has a children's corner with toys...have not seen that in other Wetherspoons. Otherwise great pub.

Atypical town based wetherspoons no parking and from the front it looks quite small but it is deep and long , lots of seating and an area outside. The pricing structure is typical of a wetherspoons along with the food you get good value .

Usual spoons, top quality drinks, top quality value.... you can't beat a spoons.

Typical good Weatherspoons. Very big. Plenty of seating usual excellent selection of beers and good value food.

Met friends for lunchtime catch up. Quiet ,so we were able to hear each other

I usually wouldn’t complain if I was ordering for myself but today I was a bit shocked at the service. I support a young lady with learning disabilities, who ordered an American burger, not realising it doesn’t come with cheese. Due to the nature of her disability she was very distressed and I asked the manager as she was walking around if she could just have a slice of cheese for her burger, to which i was informed in a blunt manner that she should have ordered a cheese burger and that it would cost £1.50 for a slice of cheese.. the price difference between a regular burger and a cheese burger is only 60p. I took the food to the bar to pay for the cheese, and asked if it could just be run to the kitchen quickly as the food was already getting cold and explained that she was getting herself in a state over if, but was told it would be brought over. Waited another 10 minutes at the table for a singular slice of cheese to be brought out on a plate at which the burger was cold at this point. I was a bit shocked at the customer service as in most places it’s a small exception to make and wouldn’t be made to feel like a bother. I understand we should have checked the order, but considering she is a vulnerable adult and for such a small mistake I didn’t expect it to be such a hassle.

Visited a few times, different times if the day, but this visit was a morning stop off during school holidays before a busy day. We had a breakfast each. Full English and a Fiesta brunch. 😋

Overall good night. Food very good value.

What an awful place , Have been overcharged on more than one occasion in this pub, even had money refunded twice , the app works ok for the first few rounds of drinks then it starts to overcharge, £6.18 round of drinks charged £22 ( which I find a bit suspect as it only does if after you have ordered a few drinks ) How many people in an evening does it do this too without people noticing. I tried to speak to manageress about the app she said we were being aggressive and has now barred us , hilarious as we are in our in our late 60’s and they were actually stealing money from us . Got in touch with their head office but they don’t care. Wetherspoons you really need to take notice of your reviews.

We arrived at aporox 6pm and place was fairly empty. Staff were too busy chatting to each other and aimlessly walking around to notice a couple of people waiting to be served at the bar. We were ignored for 10 minutes, then they served someone else who had just walked up, and still ignored us. We complained and walked out.

Had a lovely lunch today, ramen noodles were absolutely delicious 😋 and everyone enjoyed their food. Extremely good value for money. All the staff were really friendly and the toilets were clean. We will definitely go back again.

Nice pub, Reasonably priced, The service was OK, Average wetherspoon’s experience. The pub seems to get quite busy and noisy when I’ve been there. It was hard to find a table and they were packed in, making the place feel small.

Fried buttermilk chicken burger was over cooked and stringy, the service was indifferent but it was mid afternoon. The Herbert Wells in Woking still holds top spot.

Visited this place as we were short on time with our parking ticket and the app stated 6 minutes for food and 3 minutes for drinks (obviously not expecting gourmet food in 6 minutes) but at least we thought it'd be quick. We chose and ordered our food and drinks on the app and then we waited....and waited...and waited !!! The drinks took 20 minutes and were wrong and the food took 35 minutes and was cold and unappealing. Whilst eating I observed another table close by who all ordered together, one meal came out a good 15 minutes before the other two lady's got theirs. Surely there's an unwritten restaurant rule to serve all meals on one order together ? Never again !! Thankfully got back in time to car to avoid parking ticket though.

Popped in for breakfast...service was so slow took 15mins to get served we ordered the traditional breakfast It was poor poor poor No excuses The beens were dried up and cold The hash browns were the best bit The sausage was nice flavour but stone cold the bacon was cold and had a strange taste of charcoal grilling !!! Don't think they have a charcole grill Poor around

Love a traditional breakfast and understand you get what you pay for but this was the worst 'spoons breakfast I've ever had, undercooked bacon, stone cold sausage, 8 beans and a fried egg which resembled a boiled egg flattened and burnt. The staff had some serious attitude about them too, will not go back to this one next time we're in the area

Breakfast this morning a bt disappointing food left under heat for too long dried out nobody came to ask if everything OK but I suppose at this price they don't care too much.

Food could have been better. Service was good, and staff were very helpful and friendly. Not my first choice, but was hungry and everywhere else was full.

I've been avoiding this place since before Christmas, but how it's changed! Typical Wetherspoons food and drink, fair prices, and you know what you're getting. Always a nice selection of real and craft beers. And the staff are great, very helpful and cheerful.

Had lunch yesterday at The Roebuck. The food was not as good as other Wetherspoons we have eaten at. Jacket potato dry & cold...burger grissly. No won't visit again.

The most rude customer service, red-head girl screaming at customers for no reason. working at spoons and never had an issue like this. Happy to provide spoons ID, if she needs to talk too regional manager for how she handles bank holidays happy to provide further insight.

Friend wanted a refund for drinks and was not allowed due to a redhaired member of staff being extremely rude.

We were told we were next into the pub, so we ordered a drink to our friends table, a bouncer said let me finish my cigarette and I'll take you to the bar. Until a red haired member of staff was extremely rude and said "sorry you can't spare £3, I'm not accepting a refund, you shouldn't have ordered" when we were told we'd get in! Terrible by them, bouncers were lovely, terrible management.

Red haired woman, was extremely rude to a group of people I saw trying to enter. I unfortunately got turned away as it was understaffed. But I saw how extremely rude this woman was to this group. She angrily said they weren't allowed to be escorted in even though they were told they were next in line, they then asked for a refund and she joked about it only being £3 which I found extremely rude considering the crisis we're in. I don't think I'll come back here due to that treatment of guests.

It's a Wetherspoons. You know what you are getting. Staff friendly, service reasonably fast even when busy. You can't ask for more than that.

Lovely pub but we only popped in for a cuppa. We really felt relaxed in The Roebuck & would definitely recommend it. We didn't have a chance to eat here so can't comment on the food. We were there around 10am so it was quiet. The eveycould be another story.

Hi, I’ve lived in Rayleigh for a few years and nipped in for lunch with a friend. What a lovely pub! Friendly staff, we both had steak which was very good. Clean pub, and a bright and airy atmosphere. I would definitely go back 👍

Poorly trained staff member who thought I had too much to drink because I stumbled up to the bar. I explained it was because of my medical condition which affects my balancing. The lady didn’t want to know….. Me and a friend were escorted out by the security staff because of this. My friend returned and was let back in to speak to both the lady and her manager. They had no explanation for their actions, looked worried and would not give their full names. Discrimination at its worst.

My wife and I were invited to the Roebuck in Rayleigh by a long term friend to celebrate his 73rd birthday over a couple of drinks and something to eat. Sadly to say it was not a great experience. One meal, pie and mash. arrived without any gravy the recipient being told that the kitchen had run out and basically take it or leave it! Waiting for drinks took an age compounded by the fact that it was a mid week evening when the pub was virtually empty. Another of our group who had asked to be served after an unnessary long wait was told that the staff were too busy even though he was the only one stood at the bar. Another staff member then came over, pro porting to be the assistant manageress, telling him that our table was no longer going to be served as he was being offensive to the staff and would our group all please leave. What compounded the evening for me was a small weedy scruffy looking guy with a beard then turned up claiming to be the proper manager, he then put on a Spartacus act to heard us all out of the door like he was some kind of tough guy in front of all his girls, what a Pratt. You don't get this kind of excitement in the Legion, we won't be back.

Its usually the Regular Wetherspoons what it says on the tin, but last visit Mothers day just passed was terrible, 1 coffee machine working(been like that for ages), No Brown/HP sauce, 1 slice of toast given when it should be 2 for Toast and Preserves, 1 Mushroom the size of a 50p on the Large Breakfast, long queue at the coffee machine, burnt bacon served up with luke warm eggs and beans, guessing they had issues in the Kitchen as I over heard a conversation, regarding kitchen staff, unacceptable for this Chain a chain we like very much, better off to bring your own HP as its the only way to gaurantee you will have some. 2 out of 5 on the day, a poor show for some as it was Mothers Day.

Waiting time at the bar is sometimes herondous, Some of the management need training in politenes and the only place i know where you put your coat on before you go in because the aircon is always on freezing

Filthy dirty. Every empty table had plates and glasses on despite it not being busy at all. Our table had fingernail clippings on! Loads of food on the floor under the tables too. Typical Spoons.

Been shopping locally so thought we would try here for a quick bite to eat. Prices are very reasonable, its Weatherspoon's and they are generally all the same. Not that i use them often. It was a weekend afternoon, so very busy, we found a table and the waitress came straight over and cleared away, cleaned up and reset the table within minutes. Very polite and friendly. Our order was placed at the bar, which despite the hoards of people, was actually a swift and easy event. Our food was presented nicely, cooked well, very tasty and served in good time. All in all a good experience. Shame our local one in Leigh on sea is not up to the Roebucks standards

The food was good and the service was nice.

Great pub for cheap drinks . But there is no need to turn heating off to pay for it .I understand if it is full up which it can be Friday/Saturdays after 8.00 But us regulars go in at 3/4 pm

Chaz JJ We were sitting opposite you when you complained. The manageress was polite and listened to your concerns. And to be honest I was embarrassed for her. You were loud, rude and verbally aggressive. Far dues, it’s always annoying when food is slow and missing but there are ways to complain. The bit that really surprises me is that the end of your review, you actually said “food and drink were fine” Possibly the mumbles you heard was from us and definitely stronger at what you possibly heard.

Busy night, Friday. Reasonably priced drinks. Go early to get a table. Can become loud with groups of friends.

We only popped in for a quick drink after lunch. The pub was fairly busy, but there were only 4 of us at the bar. There was only 1 member of staff serving and after a good 10 minute wait, we were served. Very happy with the prices and very happy with the atmosphere! I think 1 additional member would have been beneficial, but I would go back, mainly for the prices and secondly for the atmosphere.

Good coffee at a reasonable price but serve yourself

Amongst our order, which took over 30 minutes to arrive, was the Christmas special. Sarah conducted a check back.we told her the food was tasty, but the winter vegetables were hiding, i.e., invisible, and we never could find the parsnips! And a 30-minute wait for the food was excessive, especially when we were not preadvised. Sarah offered to ask her manager to help. Over 10 minutes later, Laura, i later discovered the manager, strolled over hands in pockets. What she asked is the problem. I bought her up to speed, very slow service and food, Christmas dinner, not as per menu. Her answer or rectification--Stop shouting, well, well......if i shouted, the whole place would have reacted. If this is the standard of manager Wetherspoons employs, I feel sorry for them. Laura you are no longer in the playground. Grow up. Wetherspoons employ people who can manage. Shame, really, food and drink were fine. As she , it, manager lol, walked away she was heard to mumble.....I've had enough of you. Wetherspoons, you have a good business don't spoil it .

i work for wetherspoons and its a big thing about getting a check back as its our bonus for everyone but the roebuck we didnt get anything even left the dirty plates on the table when we finished but then again the 2 young lads didnt seem bothered

Cant fault the food when you eventually get it x I ordered main and dessert my friend ordered main x I received and ate my main whilst my friend was still waiting for her main x Went to bar and ask for my dessert and where my friends meal was x Around 20 minuets later my friends main arrived I asked about my the dessert warm cookie dough was and the girl said "they are doing it now " Goodooh at least we will both be eating the same time x Alas no my friend finished her meal and I was sitting their still waiting for my dessert x.it eventually arrived 15 minuets after she finished eating x We must of been in their for over a good 3 hours x Nothing worse than eating on your own x Shame this happened as we often pop in here for lunch whilst shopping in Rayleigh x unfortunately we will have to eat elsewhere as it took up to much of our time x Regards 2 unhappy old shoppers x

It was the most shocking dreadful taste I have ever had. How can u muck up an American breakfast. Everything came out over cooked cold, tasteless oh sorry there was taste of old oil. Gross so we had toast but could not eat that it as it was cold bread basically!!!

Great place to eat and drink if you're in Rayleigh! Food is lovely, great choices for draft beer and wine, the prices are reasonable, the pub is spacious and clean and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming!

We used to come here every now and then and always found it it good, but we have not visited for about a year. In that time it’s gone completely downhill. I do not know if they are training a new chief or something else, but everything we ordered was rubbish. Chips (of which there were about 5 each) and burgers cremated. Chicken overdone and dry. Even a baked potato and pizza ruined. Mentioned the problems to a server who seemed little interested. We will never return to this pub. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

It's OK. It's a Wetherspoon. No music, no atmosphere, cheap beer. Depends what you like really. Service was slow the night I visited, odd as the place was empty. Used the App to order drinks to see if it was any quicker, but went and collected them myself. It is what it is.

Nice quiet modern pub, no long waits, food comes out hot and drinks come out cold located about 10minutes walk from the train station or 2 minutes to a taxi rank or bus stop

A nice little spoons on the High Street with seating out the front as well as a small strip outside opposite the bar that let's in so much light - it's great. The pub wasn't the usual dark wood which I think gave it a much lighter and relaxing feel. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. The fish and chips was as good as always and the Guinness was excellent.

Everytime I have visited this pub I'm always surprised it's aloud to be open to public. As you walk through the doors you are greeted by a load of fruit flies- this has happened the last three times I've visited. A little concerning when food is prepared on this premises. I nearly always order through the app because whenever I go to the bar I get ignored, its clear the regulars are favoured over me. Today I did this and was kept waiting for my food for about 40 minutes. No one apologised and the waitor literally slammed it on the table. I still hadn't received my drink at this point too. I think the pub needs a good deep clean and refurb and staff need training on basic customer service.

All staff super-friendly and very clean and tidy. Food decent enough and great value.

This is my local Wetherspoons. Its been in the town for over 20 years now and my last visit was most disappointing. I usually have a Burger and chips, I ordered a American burger, it was just that. Two beef patties in a bun and little salad, hardly any chips. The beef patties were OK but nothing special, I can get better from the fast food chains down at Rayleigh weir. The Staff attitude left something to be desired. I to ask twice for the table to be cleared and cleaned. Not acceptable and it will be a while before I go back.

Busy Saturday and took a long time to get food.

We both had medium rare 8oz sirloin stake with chips & side salads. I was lucky and could eat approximately 45% of mine, my wife was less fortunate and found her's virtually uneatable, due to the presence of so much gristle. Sent hers back and next one was much like mine. Chips were fine. I had a mediterranean salad and her's was a normal mixed salad. Both were very good. Drinks fine. As was the sevice. To sum up: - we will avoid ordering any steaks here again. We have eaten here several times in the past, ordering other meals and no had any problems. The quality of their steak were tasty but appalling to say the least.
