We had a chance to have lunch at the Rock & Spindle during a recent visit to St Andres. The restaurant is located on the Castle Course, which I was told was the most difficult golf course to play in the area. The restaurant sits on the 9th and 18th fairways, directly on the North Sea. Spectacular views. There is a gift shop attached. The food and service were okay, nothing to rave about, but a beautiful place to enjoy the scenery. We tried the Haggis Balls with whiskey sauce. Crossed it off the bucket list and moved on.

Been here several times, they should be able to vary the actual dish,as I hate mushy peas, they don't do garden peas ?? Where do the Mushy ones come from ,the chips in a basket were clearly chipped in a machine so no waste, every bit put in the fryer mean lots of very hard bits that could break your teeth no two Chips same size,Fish tasteless and small, batter was OK, Sticky Toffee pudding was tiny the size of a Satsuma and one Scoop of Ice Cream ,pricey but not as Pricey as it might have been ,Desserts took a while Staff competent, without being overbearing .

We were recommended this place by friends. My sister and her husband will be visiting us in May from Australia so we thought we would check this place out as a potential lunch venue. They are very keen golfers so thought the views and the close proximity to the course would be ideal. Views are spectacular but we were rather disappointed by the meal. We both had Cullen Skink to start with. It was only look warm and there was hardly any fish and it had been drizzled with basil oil? Next we had chicken ceasar salad again disappointing. We hsd to ask for the anchovies and it certainly wasn't little gem lettuce as stated on the menu. As my husband was driving he had a coffee to finish and we had to ask for sugar. All in all not a great experience.

We have visited the Rock and Spindle on numerous occasions and have always been extremely happy with the food and service. Unfortunately on this occasion we were very disappointed. Both ordered fish and chips, then the waitress came back a few minutes later to say there was only one portion left - at 1.30pm on a Sunday? My husband decided to order a burger instead which he wasn’t impressed with and when my food arrived, the server apologised that there were no peas left! I was given chopped cucumber, onion and tomato in a dish instead! The fish was very greasy and not at all enjoyable. We were given a reduction to the bill but it wasn’t what we expected. I would like to think this was a one off as it’s one of our favourite local haunts but as it’s now closed for the season we’ll need to wait until next Spring to find out!

the view is to die for, breathtaking. the cullen skink was NOT cullen skink, no potatoes no fish, just uncooked leaks in a hot liquid, very disappointing . Both dishes were like that. when mentionned to the staff, this was ignored. would not go back for the food

First time we have been here after visiting St Andrews. The service, food and views were excellent considering the price being so little. Extra thanks to Sean our waiter who was exceptional. Will definitely return the next time we are in the area.

We booked this wonderful gem of a Scottish restaurant from across the world in Australia .After a game of golf at the Castle course we had drinks on the terrace overlooking the course and the sea. Then ventured inside for a simple but tasty menu, including fish and chips, delicious soup and burger. Staff were attentive and friendly, the food was good and the venue magnificent. Recommend.

Not an obvious place- but there's no need to play golf to eat there. A beautiful room with great views. Very good service. The menu is quite conventional but is well cooked. A good selection of beers (and whisky, as you might expect)

You might not typically think about going to a golf course to eat but the Rock & Spindle in the Castle Course clubhouse in St Andrews is well worth a visit. It's less than 10 minutes' drive from the centre of St Andrews. You don't need to have played the course, the four of us turned up there at lunchtime on 24th June and they could not have been more welcoming. (In fact we ended up eating there twice during our trip). We were sat in a great spot beside the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the course and the sea and were told there may be a wait since they had a couple of larger groups in (it was a good atmosphere). But service was quick and friendly. We had club sandwiches - fresh and tasty, and onion rings (a big bowl of proper deep fried rings in fresh batter) and parmesan chips. Two of us wanted to share a sandwich and when it came it was presented on two boards which was a nice touch. We also had the best Guinness we had anywhere in St Andrews - even better than The Jigger Inn if that's possible!

First time back since the COVID pandemic. Warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Order taken quickly for drinks and were given plenty of time to select our meals which were excellent and very tasty. We pigged out and had 3 courses. Staff were attentive and courteous - a credit to the restaurant. A wee bit pricey, but what the hell it's great to treat yourself.

Husband was playing in a 4-ball while we walked the dogs. We wanted to watch them come in and staff couldn't have been friendlier. We sat in the outside dining area and had some drinks. Staff came out and chatted and we felt very welcome. We'll be having food next time.

First time visiting and came recommended. Met friends for brunch. 3 coffees and out order taken. Wasn't particularly busy and when we noticed another table that had ordered after us we asked for an update on our food and another round of drinks. Drinks came and no explanation given on food. When asked again was disappointed to receive abrupt response that food would be next to come out. Waited a further 10 mins for food. The food was delicious but customer service sadly lacking. Would not recommend. A simple acknowledgement would have gone a long way. We had to ask for the bill more than once. No tip given for the shortfalls in customer service.
