I tasted an amazing fish and chips meal and rock and sole Lager Beer. Lola showed me an amazing hospitality and took care of me during my dinner time. Thanks a lot Rock and Sole Plaice family. Actually there needs reservation for table but i was there at 4 pm and luckily there is a free table.

Tourist trap. Overpriced fish and ingredients out of the box without any taste. You’re better off going somewhere else.

Clean and cosy place with friendly and attentive staff, and scrumptious food. Its history adds even more charm to it! Esma and Flora made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend it.

The food was good . We didn't have to wait too long. The serving is also good. The fish was really fresh and so tasty. I also enjoyed the tartare sauce as it was just the right consistency. It is recommended to book before but you can still come in with no reservation and wait until a table is available. The staff was very accommodating and quick to serve. But do note there is an extra service fee of 12.5% on top of the priced mentioned, which made it quite expensive. This is the only bad part.

Amazing fish & chips!!! Had the Lemon Sole, nice and tender and juicy in the inside, contrasted with the crisp and crackle of the skin, it was 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 accompanied with fabulous tartar sauce (I wiped the sauce dish clean), a generous portion of well-prepared chips (included in Regular portion, I was very happily full), free flow of ketchup at the table and a delicious Kopparberg Strawberry cider non-alcoholic 0%. I also tried Pickled Eggs as a side, but very intense vinegar-y sourness, it's probably an acquired taste 😉 Good service and enjoyable seat in the outdoor terrace with fine weather. I recommend :)

Quite nice food and very large portions. The shop is 154 years old and has a lot of history as it was the first fish and chips in London. The skate was delicious and fluffy. Even if you are not an expert in fish you understand that it is fresh. They gave us a postcard with a photo of the shop. Very nice gesture. The prices are a bit steep as we paid 48 pounds for two dishes and a water and with the tip where it says at the bottom of the menu that you will pay it cost us 55 pounds.

Textbook fish and chips. I had the "stronger" one and it was really good, soft meat and not dry at all. The place is simple but tidy; the service very efficient. The prices are average for London.

We ordered 3 fish and chips, calamari and everything was delicious. Tartar sauce was nice and light, fish had a nice ratio to batter. Staff was really nice and quick. We’ll come back next time we’re in London :-)

Very tasty fish and chips! Very light in taste and didn't smell like fish or oil from frying at all! It might be a bit pricey but it's really worth it! The portion is very filling! Pleasant note, the boy who served us the beers who is from Greece and served us in Greek!

The BEST chippy in London, I would go as far to say the best I have ever had! The staff are so friendly, service excellent and so quick. I have eaten here several times to be sure its standards are 5*, I recommend the Camembert, Cod, Scampi - they even have their own larger which is a lovely drink. Complements to the team

This place is the oldest fish and chip restaurant in London. Haddock is really delicious (my fave). However I recommend cod as well. The regular portion is enough filling. Outside seating area is really pleasant, particularly when the weather is nice. Very close to long acre, therefore we can say it’s located at the heart of covent garden. Overall one of my fave food places in London🤍

Personally, I felt that i overpaid massively for the quality of food that had been prepared for me. Firstly, my haddock tasted bland throughout as if it wasnt seasoned at all. It just tasted like nothing Secondly, the batter just falls off after i used my fork on the fish. Every bite I took, i had to poke the fish, poke the batter thats had fallen off and taste bland fish and similarly tasteless batter. Lastly, the fries were just mush. I felt that it wasn't even done well as it was not even crispy on the outside. The inside was warm and extremely mushy which at this rate, it could have just been mash instead. Personally, I dont agree with the high ratings this place has, especially with the fact that dining in costs 10 pounds more than having the fish to go (which at this quality, it might be better to do so to save a pretty penny). Shame on me for not asking about the cheaper take-out menu and assuming it was an older menu with outdated prices. Perhaps it was a one-time issue with the food but for 24 pounds it had better be done well, not to mention the 12.5% service charge tacked on at the end. I wouldnt recommend this place with the amount of other cheaper options in London

Two of us had dinner outdoors. Ordered cod regular, good cooking, fast service. Only thing to say is a little expensive compared to others.

We had a very late lunch here after a delayed flight into London. This was always on my bucket list of eats! There's outdoor and indoor seating, though the indoor space is very small and cozy. The staff are very nice, and it was fairly busy. We got the cod and an order of the scampi. Both were delicious. The cod was incredibly fresh, and cooked perfectly. It was flaky and juicy, and quite a big filet. The crunchy batter was surprisingly light, so even though you're eating a big piece of fried fish, it doesn't feel too greasy or heavy. The scampi was also very good. I love their tartar sauce -- it goes well with everything. They have malt vineger, ketchup and mayonnaise available on each table for your dipping pleasure. I did try the malt vinegar on the chips, but it wasn't really my thing. We ordered a side curry for dipping our chips, and it was a great pairing (and dare I say it, better than ketchup!). I can see why this place has been so popular for so long. Highly recommend!

05 May 2025 Visited for the second time. Both the food and the service are excellent. Fish was delicious and the batter so very thin and crispy. Highly recommended. I will be back . A note on the reservation system. If you want to sit inside, you need to mention that. They wanted us to sit outside.. After a brief discussion with the manager we were seated downstairs. Not what what we expected after making the reservation several months in advance. You need to change the your reservation system please. Or make it clear to your guests. ------------------------ 29 Jan 2024 This has to be the best fish and chip restaurant I have been to. The fish is fresh. The batter wafer thin and extremely crispy. The food is delicious. Queue at the cafe, long wait for food, noisy. Cold air from the air conditioner was blowing straight into my back, I asked to turn it off, the staff turned it off, but after 10 minutes they turned it on again. I didn't like it. They charged me an optional service fee.

With my friends we had a short three-day experience in London, if you want to eat authentic fish & chips we highly recommend you eat here! Excellent service thanks also to Mr Sushant, who perfectly explained to us all the differences and types served, ensuring several times that everything was going well, taking care of our needs.

I had the most amazing fish & chips experience here – honestly, better than what I’ve had in London! The fish was incredibly fresh, with a perfectly light and crispy batter, and the chips were golden and fluffy inside. Everything was cooked to perfection and served piping hot. Top meal, very professional staff, air conditioning a little too strong and cool in the basement.

Staff is really helpful and nice. The place is nice and feels « old style » which is cool. You may have to queue. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Service is quick. I was seating outdoors and the vibe is really nice, not too noisy for being in downtown London. The portions are quite big already with the regular size and for £2 additional you can make it large. Tho in my opinion the regular size one is already more than enough. The lower points for me is the food, without being bad it didn’t meet my expectations: The cod was a bit too cooked which make it a tiny dry. The chips were very soft and not crunchy at all. I didn’t eat them. The tartare sauce was really nice and pickle onions added the extra sourness needed.

Properly solid fish and chips here. Very well fried with good crisp batter. Chips are also very well done. Only reason not giving 5 stars is because of price. It's very steep. Even for London prices. Just note that there is almost a 40% saving to be made if you do take away. That's the better option if you ask me.

For the price listed and how this place was hyped on social media, I expected more. It's good, but I could get the same quality of fish and chips elsewhere for £12-£15. In my opinion, it's a tourist trap.

Great fish and chips and the homemade tartare sauce was excellent too. The prawns were big and juicy and thoroughly enjoyable. Buzzy atmosphere and food came quickly. Only downside was that the mains came while we were still eating our starters but overall a great experience and will definitely be going back. I didn’t try desserts as I was too full but would be interested to do so next time.

Very accommodating of our request to change the booking but the service, however pleasant the staff were, was then average at best. Food was excellent as always but waiting 20 minutes for drinks only for the drinks delivered to be incomplete and incorrect wasn’t ideal.

The fish and Chips de référence. C'est délicieux, copieux, et servi rapidement. Le poisson est vraiment très bon, sans arrêtes, servi brûlant avec une petite sauce tartare. Le meilleur des restos londoniens sur 5 jours de voyage. Terrasse agréable mais un peu petite.

The food was absolutely delicious! We tried the Cod Lion and it was really special — the fish was crispy and tasty, though it had a slight off taste, maybe from the type of fish, but it didn’t affect the experience much. The fries were super tasty, and we also ordered an appetizer that was a mix of fish, shrimp, and calamari. As for the service, Lola was absolutely lovely! So cheerful and optimistic, with a bright smile that made us feel at ease — the kindest server I’ve seen since my trip to London. Thank you so much, Lola, you made our time even more enjoyable!

I expected a little more flavor from the batter, which seems to be a common complaint of mine here in London. However the fish and the fries were on point. It’s a go to destination. It’s the original fish and chips of London, which adds to the must try factor. Is it worth coming back to? That’s really up to you to decide.

This is a must visit for fish and chips. This was some of the best fish I’ve ever eaten. The fries could use some work but the fish is cooked perfectly & makes of for the lackluster fries. I highly suggest getting a side of the sweet chili sauce!

I'd heard so much about this place and it didn't disappoint. Fish was beautiful - crunchy on the outside but juicy, thick and delicate on the inside. Chips were also very delicious. The meal was expensive but it filled us up for the whole day!

Apparently the oldest fish and chips place in London? The food was great, service was quick and portions were pretty big for their price. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of “authentic” fish and chips experience in UK to compare but to a fresh faced tourist, I thought it was good. We got the cod and lemon sole and the batter was light while the cod inside was perfectly cooked to maintain its flakiness, moisture and mild flavor. Definitely recommend the sweet and not really spicy curry sauce as a dipping sauce for the fries/chips.

Fried fish and potatoes are among the best I have ever tasted. It is worth trying and repeating the visit. There is a waiting line sometimes, but it goes quickly. The restaurant workers are nice and orders are not late.

Apparently they are the oldest fish-and-chips-shops in Londen. They’ve been around since 1871. I really wanted to visit it, because of the hype. Don’t get me wrong, it was good. But it wasn’t as amazing as I had hoped. The batter of the fish was absolutely amazing, but the fish itself was very wet and tasteless. The calamari and chips were great, no complaints. But the prices… It is way too expensive for what was served.

The fish and chips were very nice, but also quite expensive. And to rub salt in the wound, I saw a surprise service charge appear on my bill without my permission! I had to literally argue with the staff to get it taken off. This did not make for an enjoyable experience overall, as good as the fish was.

Crispy chips and a generous serving of fish. The sauce was excellent, and the meal was really satisfying. I’d definitely come back! It looks like they accept reservations, but I had no trouble getting a table without one on a Monday afternoon.

We ate there and it was very pleasant, the food was delicious and in good quantity. I recommend ordering the small portion for one person, it was more than enough. I give it 3 stars because they charged us €15 for the service (without notifying us in advance). The dishes are also quite expensive: 3 people €112 (1 dish + drink), although I understand that this is normal for the area in which it is located.

Great customer service, lovely food and the setting was just right for me and my girls to have a catch up and chill. We were looked after by the staff and not rushed at all. First time experiencing this restaurant and it won’t be the last, thank you!

If you're a tourist seeing the sites in Central London this a great choice with a great standard of fish and chips - abit pricey but the location is too. Otherwise loads of fish and chip shops all over the city that make equal or better for less money

El pescado era completamente insípido y todavía tenía la piel gris en él, que es solo una manera perezosa de cocinarlo y servirlo en mi opinión. Las patatas fritas eran mejores pero nada especiales y requerían mucha sal para que tuvieran cualquier tipo de sabor. Lo más decepcionante fue que los chefs discutieron entre ellos y su atuendo no parecía muy limpio. Al salir una pareja que había estado comiendo estaban buscando direcciones a una tienda cercana a dos calles de distancia y me sorprendió que preguntaran aprox. 5 miembros del personal y nadie sabía u ofreció sacar sus teléfonos para ayudar a dar instrucciones. El restaurante era muy tranquilo en esta etapa, así que muy decepcionante. Intervenimos y llevamos a la pareja a donde tenían que ir, que no estaba demasiado lejos, pero sentimos que teníamos que compensar este mal nivel de servicio al cliente! ¡Aunque se ve bien afuera, eso es muy engañoso!

How can you visit the UK without eating fish and chips? This long-established shop is the first choice. I like the taste very much.

We went on Monday for lunch without a reservation at 12, we were seated immediately without a queue. Fish was very good, soft and juicy. Chips were hard and tasteless. Everything was nice and fried and greasy. We got the large version (£25) and it was fine for two people. Drinks and salad (£7) were expensive. 10% tip applied automatically at the time of payment. For a tourist and traditional lunch, for once it's ok...

We love this place! It must have the best fish and chips in all of England. The atmosphere and staff are so good. The staff is nice! In London! You should make a reservation. Again, make a reservation. Otherwise it's almost impossible.

First fish and chips of my life, it was really worth it. Amazing product quality, attentive and always smiling service, especially the head waiter. The dish was truly amazing, it's a shame that having overdone it with appetizers we almost couldn't finish it. I will definitely stay here again during my next visit to London. Well done.

Got disappointed with the food quality, it’s much below of what we expected and tasted in other cheaper places . The fish was watering from the inside and oily from the outside . And plus it didn’t have any taste. It’s overpriced for this quality. Not worth to pay 22£ for 1 plate of fish and chips (chips so thick and also no taste at all)
