Nice setting, in the beautiful Town Hall, pleasant young staff, who weren’t very experienced, but did try hard. The food was sadly not the best. Small portions (chips / 6/8 small cuboids) served in a bowl that made it difficult to eat from. Pastry on cheese & onion pie too hard to eat. Dessert very average too. I feel they’ve tried to make it ‘chic’ but sadly I don’t think it’s worked. I’m happy to pay for something different, if it’s good quality & worth it. Unfortunately, this wasn’t. Parking was really difficult too, as I had my disabled mum with me & had to park a distance away. I hope they make some changes to make this new venture work. Until then I’ll not be going again. I’ve never written a bad review before, but hope the critique helps make things better. Having spoke to others since my visit, it would seem that they were of the same opinion.

Finally a quality restaurant that Rochdale deserves. Excellent service, intimate surroundings, fabulous architecture, good food (have the cheese if only for the homemade Eccles cake), attentive staff. The Bramble cocktail was delicious. Apparently The Martlet is a mythical bird on the Rochdale coat of arms. Who knew?

Went for lunch. Had to book in case it was full! We sat at our table and promptly given the menu. The specials was Egg and cress sandwich, chips and vegetable soup. What came was Tuna and sweetcorn sandwich chips and pumpkin soup!! I ordered meat and potato pie, mushy peas and gravy, what came was meat and potato pasty, mushy peas and gravy. We ordered the food with the waiter with his tablet. When I mentioned it to staff they apologised and said they gave us the wrong menu. A bit amateurish for such an establishment. Never even gave us a discount for the wrong food. Wouldn't mind though but the food looked brought in from a supplier and re-heated

Visited last Saturday for mid-afternoon meal, small but well appointed restaurant. We shared the sausage roll/chips/curried tomato sauce as a starter, & followed up with the rag pudding, hasselback potatoes, veg including lovely minted peas, & the bacon rib with breadcrumbs egg, chips & veg again. All very nicely presented & tasted beautiful. Too full for dessert! Great service, we will definitely be back maybe for the evening weekend fine dining next time, or maybe just for another lunch! Well worth a visit, good to have somewhere that serves such quality food in the centre of Rochdale.

Beautiful surroundings and friendly service. 1 strange vegetarian starter and 1 scattering of veg main - like going back 25 years. Very flambouyantly described in the menu but actually almost zero imagination. Two small carrots sliced and a couple of courgettes are the same price a Sea Bass or Beef Wellington - wow. Portion size is WAY too small and inconsistent between the same dish ordered twice. One was 50% larger and even that was too small. No option for sides. Cheese board was off the menu, we found out after ordering three. So sticky toffee pudding; it was too big, tasted burnt and all four identical puddings had different amounts of toffee sauce from swimming to dry. We all left underwhelmed and doubt we'll go back. Such a shame and I really hope they improve by adding 1 more starter (tip a veg soup executed well) and 1 more veg main with a bit of imagination that reflects on the price and image presented (tip jackfruit, tofu, tempeh, seitan, Quorn, nuts etc). Make portion sizes 20% larger or have starchy sided such as three quinelles of creamed potato, parsnip and carrot with the Wellington won't hit your GP hard and will get repeat business, recommendations and good reviews.

It’s really worth popping in and wandering around wherever you’re allowed. Lovely old town hall with a myriad of original features. Lovely looking cafe to the side too.

I attended a wedding in Rochdale town hall last week and I was impressed with the architectural features, very well maintained since Victorisn Era. Its an A class venue. The food was sourced from a local catering company but it was good.

Went to Littleborough ABC night recently. The bar was well manned to ensure fast service, The 1st floor ball room is magnificent, definitely a shining gem in the middle of this poorly managed town

Rochdale town hall is a fantastic building. The restaraunt is only small and quiet simple. Food is average but not badly priced service not brilliant. But ok for a light lunch

The Town Hall building impresses a bit more than the restaurant, but it's a modest, welcoming place for a good value lunchtime bite. Fair choice and human staff. I suppose a cynic might say its dressed-up staff canteen - but none the worse for that.

It's pretty on the outside, but there's nothing else really. Maybe it's all the cuts to the local council, or maybe there really isn't anything to begin with, but there are no facilities or tour guides or things. I just expected to see more there.

The town hall is a magnificent building but very few know of the cafe on the premises. It is open from around 8am when it serves breakfast and stays open for the rest if the working day. Excellent value lunches with a special every day. I particularly love quiche and salad or fresh poached salmon and salad costing around £3.95 or less.

Visiting the Touchstones Art Gallery we stopped for drinks and snacks. Good selection of teas, iced mocha was great and came in an interesting mason jar with a handle. Single use plastic straws were out of sync with a vegetarian menu. Good soup and bread and other dishes on other peoples tables looked good.

Always impressive here, went for the Christmas fayre. Had the pheasant starter, roast turkey main, and Christmas pudding dessert. All cooked to perfection, served hot by the friendly and efficient staff. This was a superb experience and I am looking forward to my next trip.
