Went for a Saturday morning brunch. We had the strawberry cheesecake french toast, biscoff porridge, and a mini full english. It was not what we envisioned eating for breakfast but they sounded too good to not try. All of it was lovely, and was definitely refreshing to see something a little different on a breakfast menu.

Lovely restaurant, friendly staff, brilliant seasonal menu. A gem of a place & you get tempted to take home goodies from the attached farm shop.

I had a terrible service with Rob Royd. Let me share my experience... I made a Christmas order to which it stated on the collection that the store was open from 8am. Arrived for 7.55am and the store didn't open until gone 8.20am. This affected my morning plans. It is absolutely unacceptable. It was Christmas Eve. The people in store were just looking at everyone freezing cold outside and queuing whilst drinking coffee and ignoring us trying to talk to them through the window. There were further issues in store when I tried to collect my order. I got no apology on the day and neither did the other customers. This is unacceptable. I raised a complaint but it was quite clear I was just a nuisance. The complaint wasn't taken serious. I really expected better, especially after being such a loyal customer for many years. Diabolical service by the store Manager Heather and by all accounts by the company owner too.

Visited for breakfast today. Nice environment, clean, light and airy. It can be a bit noisy as there are high ceilings and hard floors, it wasn't too bad today we sat next to the wall which I think helped rather than being in the middle. Service was good and prompt, food arrived quickly and on hot plates (I love that) had a ranged of breakfast items from granola, breakfast butty, eggs Benedict. All very nice definitely no complaints. One negative for us on this visit, we asked for a pot of hot water as the pots of tea are quite small. We were told we couldn't have a pot of hot water we had to order more tea!!! Couldn't get our heads round this as we go out regularly for breakfast at various establishments, no one has ever questioned having a pot of hot water. We spoke to another member of staff who said we could have ONE pot only, we only wanted one in the first place. Just a bit weird really. All in all 8/10 and would return, fair price and value for money. The farm shop is expensive but it is very good produce.

Well what can I say we've eaten and shopped here for years but today was a different experience we ate inside was seated quite quickly ordered food and drinks when the food came it was served with red wine gravy I like food wet so asked for more gravy when I was half way through .The gravy never appeared so I asked again and was told it was been warmed up ? Anyway it nèva came so quarter of my meal was wasted waiting for gravy.We asked for more drinks but hay ho they didn't appear either we again had to ask when they did arrive the waitresses didn't seem to care a jot We would have had a dessert but was never asked weather we would like one so left with out another drink or dessert .The gentleman on the next table had three courses and wine and coffee while we were waiting.He looked like a reviwer so hopefully he noticed our experience Lots of good places to eat out there so can always can good food service is the icing on the cake and it looks like this cake hasn't made the oven

Very busy , so it must be good , very very overpriced in my opinion , take a trip to welbeck much nicer setting

Had a fab lunch today served by Grace who was lovely and friendly. Hubby had their Turkey and stuffing bap with Turkey gravy and we even got a side portion of this to dunk our chips (it’s a northern thing) and it was the best gravy I have tasted in a long while. Craig the chef needs a pat on the back for making proper gravy. If only it was for sale in the shop I would visit just for that! Fab food as usual and my son loved his festive mint hot chocolate complete with mini candy cane! We are fairly regular visitors to the restaurant and will keep coming while the food and service is this good.

After exploring the delightful, and nearby, Locke Park we decided to visit the Rob Royd Farm Shop. This was our first visit, and we were glad that we chose to dine there. A large car park is available and the entrance to the restaurant is via the delightful, and high-quality farm shop. It was around 1pm and very busy but we were quickly offered a table in the lovely dining room. The menu offered an excellent choice of dishes to suit all tastes. We had ham, cheese, and chutney sandwiches which were well presented with salad and freshly made using quality ingredients. A side of triple cooked chips completed our choice. Service was provided by friendly, efficient staff and the waiting time was normal for quality fresh food during a very busy time. A lovely, relaxed dining experience .... Quality food and value for money!

Popped in for a bit of lunch and it was the best decision of the day. I had liver with chips and I honestly can’t say which was the best part I could have eaten a wheelbarrow full of the chips they were amazing the liver was cooked just right and the gravy was amazing my partner had the veggie nachos and had the same problem it was just too good the guacamole was fresh and delicious ( I couldn’t resist trying it). I wish I could find something negative but can’t. The staff were excellent it was just sooooo good!!!!

Although we have never eaten in the restaurant we purchase products from the farm shop regularly. We love the choice of fresh produce, the pies are amazing. Really recommend the steak pies which are packed with meat and taste fantastic. The chocolate orange loaf cake is also gorgeous. The cost of items are more than the supermarkets prices however you certainly get what you pay for. I also like that there are lots of items which you can buy as gifts for birthdays, christmas, fathers day etc. Well worth a visit.

Bought potted meat . Had sandwich which made us I'll.when checked date it was 3 days out of date. Please check dates on all products.

The brownies and bacon sandwiches are superb as is the farm shop but when I go out for coffee I like it to be tasty and strong - the coffee here is tasteless - and the noise in the restaurant/coffee shop is horrendous - like being in a chicken shed plus there are no windows so thenoise bounces round and round the walls

Great choice of fresh produce, meat counter amazing. Bread looks really nice, date and walnut scones are gorgeous. Worth a visit, didn't eat in the restaurant but that looked really nice too.

Considering it was a very busy Good Friday - we were seated quickly by a very friendly woman. The table etc was sparkling clean and the cafe light, airy and spacious. An innovative and well thought out menu with loads of options for vegetarians and food intolerances. Our order was taken promptly and drinks and food brought out to us quickly and piping hot. We had 3 vegetarian breakfasts and a French toast with cream and raspberries. The young lady who took our order was super-helpful and answered the few questions we asked. Portions were just right, the food was piping hot and presented really well. Clearly lots of imagination has gone into to making Rob Royd a creative, warm and friendly space to eat and drink. Despite the day being busy, we didn’t feel rushed and our requests for more drinks, the bill etc were met with a smile and promptly actioned. Good value for money. Breakfast including tea, coffee and four fresh juices came to around £55 We didn’t have time to check out the farm shop but it looked well stocked with a great choice of local produce. I’ll be more than happy to recommend to friends and look forward to another visit in the near future!

Decided to go back to Rob Royd for our Saturday treat. All the covid safety measures were in place and everyone was following the safety rules. The girls cleaned all tables and chairs when customers left. No issues at all. The food was excellent great choice on the menu. Yes you can get a breakfast cheaper. But in our opinion definitely worth it now and again.

Firstly I would like to say that the food at Rob Royd is by far the best of all the farm shops I have been to and pricing is very reasonable. However my wife and I have been twice since the reopening and have been disappointed with the standards to do with Covid. On the first occasion we managed to get a table away from occupied tables and we didn't arrive until 2pm so the restaurant only got quieter, on the second occasion we didn't arrive until 2.30pm so thought it would be quieter but it was actually busier. We almost left but as we had walked to the restaurant we knew our only choice would be to go back home so we decided to stay. It appears that no tables have been removed and are far too close when occupied (back to back with people behind); there was a table of 7 adults and 1 child when the maximum should be 6, when one of the party was going they stood at the side of our table and continued to talk to the rest of their party for a further 2 minutes which was very uncomfortable; the tables are pre set with cutlery and napkins and my wife observed a table for 4 been cleaned after it had been used by 2, the unused cutlery wasn't removed and only half of the table was sprayed and wiped; the chairs weren't wiped at all even the ones with arms. We generally love this local restaurant but are just very disapponted with these standards.

Beautiful breakfast had which will set us up for the day. Lovely place with a nice vibe and friendly staff. Would deffo recommend!

I came for breakfast as was in the area.. order egg royale and how chocolate luxury. The hot chocolate wasn’t fancy much . Breakfast is bit salty but fresh salmon. Cannot complain the price as help out discount save a lot! Think next time to come for lunch!

After 4 weeks of trying to get a delivery from 4 of the big supermarkets, I rang Rob Royd at 09.30, placed an order for my 90 year old, house bound Mum and by 14.35 Rob Royd had delivered over a weeks supply of lovely fresh food. It was quick, easy and the staff were incredibly friendly. I cannot thank them enough and hope they and their families keep safe and can continue to help the vulnerable for as long as necessary. Thank you.

Coming back from Sheffield I Googled nearby food and up came here at junction 37. Born in Darlington I'm used to the friendly crack but the staff here are superb, professional, friendly and genuine with it.I had the Vietnamese crispy pork bagette (see pic) wow it was SO SO tasty and at £11 with fries, homemade slaw and waitress served with a smile .

Popped in yesterday while visiting relatives on our way up to York.What an amazing farm shop/restaurant hidden away on the outskirts of sunny Barnsley.We just wanted a sandwich but the table next to us food looked awesome and was. We had a pasta wth prawns dish and a Vietnamese crispy belly pork baguette both were mouthwateringly good.I just can't believe the last 2 whining reviews the restaurant is better off without 'stuck up' attention seekers l like these, 'throwing the teddy out' just because they wanted to sit on a table for 4 when there's only 2 of them. It's a business for heaven's sake not a charity. And what's wrong with a friendly smile/greeting 'table for 2' you stuck up losers.

On arrival looks like a building site , but once inside farm shop looks nice , lots of choices and bought lots of bits to bring home ...but the woman behind the counter needs to learn a tad of customer service she was rude !!! A big bug bare of mine , manners cost nothing .. anyway we decided to have lunch there we both ordered the hot roast beef sandwich with fries coleslaw and a coke each £26 ... not cheap ... when they arrived my partners was soaked in gravy , mine however was that dry I struggled to get it down so we asked for some more gravy .... by the time it arrived I had one bite left of the sandwich and the woman (dark hair ponytail glasses ) that we ask originally must of forgot and we was a kind of after thought ... not the best customer service tbh ... she slid the little pan of gravy on the table and carried on walking past... without saying a word , we notice some friends of ours dining at the same time and their words was it wasn’t a great experience today food wasn’t that good .... it was our 1st time here and tbh it’s overrated, expensive and they need to invest some money in to some customer service training

My sister & I called over the weekend for breakfast. On arriving we were greater by a waitress, no good morning just "do you want a table for 2". I said yes but may we sit around the edge (larger tables) as there wasn't much room on the small tables. She said no you'll have to sit at a small table as they are for 2. So we walked towards a small table, then noticed most of the large tables had just 2 people sat at them. So we went to sit on one, the waitress said we couldn't sit there, so I pointed out our observation, at this she said again we couldn't there. So I looked at my sister & said "have we to go somewhere else", the waitress then said she'd let us have a bigger table, but it was too little too late & we left. I'd like to add the restraint was nearly empty so there was no need for her to be so abrupt. We went to Thyme at Cawthorn for breakfast...beautiful food, lovely service & we sat where we wanted.

Once again outstanding quality but gutted that they have taken off the stew mash and crispy dumpling from the specials menu as this was excellent and should be a permanent !!!! Bring it back rob Royd As always the the food and service was great and as usual the farm shop full of tempting delights

Best steaks in local area and a good choice of food. I buy food to take home to cook as well as eat on the restaurant. However, try to avoid busy times as it can take a while to be served in those circumstances.

Stopped prior to a family visit. It always used to be good when we lived on Barnsley so we thought we would stop for breakfast. Its good to see the standards of food are still as high as ever. I had the veggie breakfast which was soooo good. Maybe the best veggie breakfast Ive ever had!My wife had the smashed avocado on toast which was also excellent. The coffee was lovely too.

Lovely food and portions were very generous. The atmosphere was nice but so glad we booked a table as it was very busy at lunchtime. The farm shop has lots of lovely homemade items.

Best visit yet! As always great food but loads of food envy as everything looks so great! Should open every Sunday! I had beef stew with crispy dumpling and chive mash and it was outstanding and perfect for a winter day Only one thing let the visit down and that was that I could not squeeze in one of the stunning deserts!!!!

We called in for a late breakfast so busy we had to wait for a table. Not a problem and the friendly staff told us we wouldnt gave to wait long. We had the Rob Royd breakfast and a sausage and bacon bap. All were perfectly cooked and well presented. A very good start to the day and brought a few bits in the excellent shop. Toilets were very well kept and appointed. Do visit here.

we have been there (2 people) on Friday 19.09.27 for a breakfast and scone but because we dont usually eat a lot we decided to get one full english breakfast and one scone and then share it. However, we had been told by a really rude waitress that this is not in our restaurant's policy and you have to get 2 english breakfast otherwise i cant take your order. this is ridiculous. then we asked for one extra slice of toast and she brought us full portion of toast and said we cant sell just one slice. proper rude. we will never ever go back there.

There’s not too much to say about Rob Royd. I visited for lunch and it was certainly not bad, but nothing spectacular either.

The food is always packed full of flavour and cooked to perfection whether having a sandwich or a full meal. The seating outside is very nice as well if it’s good weather. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic quality , fresh salad tasty pickles. Plenty of cold meat and cheese . Pleasant staff . Definitely worth the money

We are regular visitors to the restaurant and farm shop. All the food is delicious and worth the money. There is something to suit all ages and dietary requirements.

Went with my elderly mother. She complained that it was too noisy. The menu for a lunch time was rather expensive so we opted for a light bite, prawn cocktail at £7. We expected something bigger than a starter as reflected in the price however we were served a prawn cocktail in a shallow dish which was impossible to eat with the knife and fork provided. We actually left and went somewhere else as we were still hungry. Not a good experience.......sorry.

This seems to be a popular place as the menu is quite extensive for lunch. The staff were brilliant. The food was really good but the bread was cut so thick, it was a bit off putting. As the place was full the noise level was quite high - it really needs some soundproofing on the ceiling

I've been visiting Barnsley for years as my husband is a local lad and we've eaten at many restaurants in the area when visiting his family so this place was a very pleasant surprise.

On family adult birthdays I always buy fillet steaks, fillet mignon or Chateaubriand, equally delicious to cook at home. I grill under a low heat for half an hour regularly turning over. Then serve to all adult guests with superb fresh vegetables from the same shop and ending with their beautiful apple pie or fruit.

Having eaten in the restaurant on many previous occasions and never doubting the quality of the food, me and my friend met on Saturday to have breakfast. As ever, the food was good. However, unlike most places, there is no smaller breakfast option. I’ve had the full breakfast previously and it’s fantastic but it’s big. Strange cause for complaint you might think but I’m sure I can’t be the only person who has not always wanted to eat ( or waste) a massive quantity of food. There’s an under 12’s option which is the perfect kind of size but you’re not allowed to purchase it unless it’s for an under 12 year old. My concern is not the cost. The full breakfast is very good value. I just really hate food waste and was disappointed at the lack of flexibility of the menu.

We decided to go for Breakfast before setting off for our trip . Staff very friendly and helpful. Prices are a little higher than most places for breakfast. But definitely worth it. Great food.

We always pop in Rob Royd Farmshop whenever we're anywhere near Barnsley it's a must for either the farm shop itself or the bistro. I won't go into detail with the food as you can see the pics say it all, everything was absolutely delicious and we wanted one of everything from the meat counter.

Lovely cafe- stylish interior and always buzzy. Food is excellent and service is always prompt and friendly. Excellent coffee and the farm shop is reasonably priced and full of cafe treats too.

Great Farm Shop, selling a wide variety of produce, bread, fresh meat, wine, vegetables plus many more. Also has a restaurant, advisable to book as it can become busy.

My friend and I are regular visitors to the restaurant. We love sitting in relaxed surroundings enjoying brunch and catching up on each other's gossip. We can't think of a nicer way to while away a couple of hours. Shopping in the farm shop afterwards is a bonus, buying something home made for tea later !

My mum and I had decided to visit the cafe for a bite to eat. We were pretty late unfortunately, arriving 5 to 10 mins before closing time. This wasn't a problem for the staff and were very welcoming and friendly. I had a pulled pork bap with chips and an Americano coffee. It arrived in good time and hot. It was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. Even though they were clearly closing up as we ate we didn't feel rushed or uncomfortable as some places may make you feel. I was very impressed with all aspects of our visit. Thank you for a great experience!!

Can not beat a rob royds breki brunch or lunch! Favourite meeting point for myself & friends. Food is outstanding, staff are excellent! Can not wait for it to be summer again to make use of the outside eating area!

Beautiful produce - outstanding showcasing - with all farm shops you can expect to pay a little more for the quality but well worth it- I have not eaten in the restaurant / bistro cafe but it looked lovely !,,, it was very busy so perhaps testimony to it success and quality so will definitely be trying this - great location and setting for a girly lunch,,,

I visited here with a friend for good food and a catch-up. We both chose from the specials menu and ordered the interesting-sounding bolognese and mozzarella roll with coleslaw and hand cut chips. Everything was delicious! We'll definitely be going again!

Went here today with a friend who had found this place by accident. We arrived just before 11:00, in the nick of time for breakfast service and it was absolutely delicious. All the main elements were from their own farm, perfectly cooked and served hot.

I have been here many times, the Menu is a crowd pleaser and the food is always beautifully executed, tasty, and consistent. It is very busy so sometimes service can be a little slow but I find a smile works wonders whereever you are - and the right attitude to the very busy staff makes for a pleasant experience. In my opinion it is a perfect place for a lunch date and even if you are eating on your own it is simply a lovely place to be. Coupled with the fabulous farm shop a trip here makes for a very pleasant afternoon.

Took me half an hour to get seated, shame about the staff, really ignorant, but the food is 5 star. The lady who was on trial..employ her!

From the fantastic shop that sells top quality produce to the restaurant that serves the most delicious food you can't beat it. Highly recommended for anyone that likes a good meal.

Had a lovely lunch here with three friends. All our meals were good. One friend is coeliac and they have an excellent choice of GF meals, starters and desserts. She was very pleased to hear they really understood the problem of not preparing non GF food in the same area. Only one little criticism was its very noisy but difficult to remedy tbat with the high ceiling and nothing to absorb the sound. All the waiting staff were lovely, efficient, pleasant and friendly. Definitelygo back.

i booked a table for our family today 9/08/18 at 12.30.on our arrival the first impressions were not good it was chaos.it was our first time and we had so many positive reports we were looking forward to the experience.after a while we were shown to our table in the noisiest eating establishment i have ever witnessed.on sitting down we were told we must wait at least 40 minutes for food even though we had booked.no problem we thought we can have a drink while we wait but 15 minutes later we were still waiting to order one when we decided enough was enough.to describe the facility as a restaurant is flattering to say the least.

Lovely food and surroundings, slightly overpriced but the portion sizes for lunch were huge and really filling. Really good choice on the menu. Only thing that lets this place down is the staff! Young girls who don’t pay attention, had to ask 3 times for some water for the table as they obviously kept forgetting, would of understood if it was busy but it was really quiet as we were there early for breakfast

I visited today with my teenage daughter & sister . We had to wait about 10minutes to be seated . I would suggest to anyone going 1.45 to 2pm would be the least busiest time . The food was absolutely amazing and the presentation was second to none . I had the tandoori chicken salad, my daughter & sister had the hot beef bap with homemade chips and coleslaws. . I would like to thank everyone at Rob Royd Restaurant for top class food .

Very nice food with beautiful presentation. Unfortunately over price. I was ask for fresh juice -pressed juice but I received bottle off Brivic not fresh pressed juice. Place looks like reception in hotel. Not happy.

Farm shop sells a good choice in meats and cheeses and lots of other foods. The restaurant has a good varied menu and the food is cooked to order. Never disappointed.

We have always bought our meat from the farm shop as it's simply the best . So we decided to pop in for lunch.

Very impressed with the clean and inviting eating area, some good friendly service and a nice selection of easy to prepare snacks. The presentation was a major plus point it gives the impression that it was prepared by people who care. I had a quesillida which was enjoyable as was the leftover piece of sticky Vietnamese bun. Very impressed!

Regular customer here and I purchased a cut of pork shoulder to slow cook. It was inateable! I complained and was offered a replacement However that wasn't helping my 6 hungry family members whom I had cooked for the night before.
