Roadchef Chester in Cheshire West and Chester

Certain members of the McDonald's team aren't pulling their weight. At precisely 5 pm one lady decided to close the section next to Costa. Given that the car park is full and the motorway is very busy, I feel this is a poor reflection on harrased travellers. She is the only person to do this.

Avoid avoid avoid at all costs!!!! We have been here over 1.5 hours and still no chance of leaving as the car park is gridlocked! Complete carnage! There are car park assistants but they don’t seem to be doing anything. We won’t ever stop here again, I see this isn’t the first time it’s happened!

I travel on the motorway network quite a lot and generally speaking motorway services can be very hit and miss… sadly more often or not miss. I was travelling on the M56 and stumbled across this one pretty much by accident… I never knew it even existed. The toilets were nice and clean, the car park was well maintained and the food court area inside was spacious, clean and nicely set out with the usual McDonald’s, Chozen Noodles, Costa coffee etc I had a Costa coffee and the staff were very friendly and polite. I’ll definitely stop here again next time I’m passing

Awful experience please avoid visiting these services at all costs- needed a quick stop but it took one hour to exit with no explanation. Wait for another services

Great services well laid out, efficient MC donalds serving tasty hot food. Special mention for Maria servicing the spotlessly clean Gents loos, studios in her work and friendly a credit to Chester services.

45 minutes to get off the car park yesterday afternoon at around 6pm. Staff doing their best to manage the situation. There didn't seem to be a specific problem, just gridlock. So I do not know how often this might occur but beware if it looks busy to get on.

Not a bad service area. Usual crop of franchised restaurants none of which excel in any way. We had Costa with a cake - same as any high st shop, only difference was the inflated prices. Would use it again though.

Many visits to this venue over the years and never found anywhere to leave a review until now, by chance. Useful location, fairly large car park, great for a pit stop. Quite a few outlets for food and shopping. Normally head for the costa as we like their coffee. Usually only there for a road break, the loo and some light refreshments. Nice to look round the Cotton Traders.

This is the service station on the east side of the M56 motorway but accessible both ways. It gets quite busy. Plenty of food outlets. We like Pret as it was quieter than the other places.

The food was ordered and took some time to arrive this was due to the fish being cooked freshly. It was slightly better than the average services.

Arrived at 11pm on Saturday evening 29th June 2019. Found only MacDonalds, W.H.Smith and Costa Coffee open. Had my first ever MacDonalds cheese burger. Very disappointed with the tasteless, greasy burger. Service very slow even though there were only 4 customers. When leaving, found the car park had a new layout with the original exit blocked off. Drove round and round car park in dark and have not found correct exit yet. Eventually left by going through the 'No entry' - which was going the wrong direction through the enbtrance. Making a mental note to NEVER visit this dump again

Ended up having lunch, buying a couple of shirts and signing up for the Cancer Relief Lottery! Good choices for food not just Mcdonalds. Parking for caravans with the HGV’s a fair trek to the Centre a useful stopping place,

I'm not a great lover of service stations - they are usually soul-less, busy, grubby, too expensive but this one broke most of that mould. OK, still pretty pricey but not too busy, plenty of franchises to choose from (we opted for Costa) and service which actually came with a smile. All the more welcome having being stuck in an inevitable pre Bank Holiday weekend traffic jam for what seemed like an eternity, Great coffee.

We were greeted by Keiran who was jolly, efficient and very attentive. The choice of products were excellent and very tasty which is a credit to the staff.

Good selection of food at these services and consistently clean well serviced toilets. And the area is well kept and the bins are not overflowing Well done

Stopped off at this motorway service on the way to the lake District. Plenty of parking and space to walk the dogs. Inside clean, as were the facilities. Staff we spoke to were friendly and fairly efficient. Bought drinks and sandwiches at Pret a Manger which were good as expected. Overall as you might expect from a motorway services.

Visited here with grandchildren,clean and tidy,staff polite,had to return fries because they were cold,also had to return cheese burger that too was cold, but overall pleased with customer service,very handy for motorway traffic.

This station has some good facilities for a small service station, a large McDonalds, a fairly large Costa Coffee, Chozen Noodle, Fresh Food Cafe; tried them all and all do good food at reasonable prices. Also a Spar and WH Smith, bit on the expensive side for most things, a gadget shop with phone cases in for an extortionate price, cotton traders shop, arcade too. Toilets very clean.

Place was spotless, had a quick McDonald's. Served by the business manager who was attentive quick and friendly. A good motorway services

Has used these services a few times on way back from wales. Decent choice of food but toilets a bit strange especially the sinks.

Evitar a toda costa. Obligado a parar para utilizar las instalaciones y tomar un café. Mientras que el lavado de manos en la limpieza viene observado con un gran manojo de toallas de papel. Ella rápidamente limpiada todos los lavabos y luego siguió el polvo por cada inodoro después CON EL MISMO pedazo de papel! ! ! ! ! ! Por tanto, la difusión de un cubículo de gérmenes a otra. Entonces ella salía fuera y limpiada mesas - afortunadamente con un pedazo de papel diferentes, pero sigue siendo el mismo uno para cada mesa! Parece ser buena suerte en vez de buen manejo que este lugar no ha tenido un brote grave ver! ! ! !

Went today to use facilities showers are the best in the country, makes a change for lorry drivers to have clean working showers and be treated by happy staff 😊

I don't know if this listing should really exist on TripAdvisor as all the "dining" options have their own individual listings, those options being McDonalds, Costa Coffee, Fresh Food Cafe and a branch of Chozen Noodle that I've yet to see actually open for business. In addition to those four there are branches of Spar and WH Smith which offer additional takeout options although Smith's in particular really lives down to the rip-off pricing you expect from a motorway service station with prices about three times more than are realistic for the goods on offer. There's also the ubiquitous gambling dens, as we all of course occasionally feel the need to pour £20 into a machine in search of "fun", and also somewhat bizarrely there's a branch of Cotton Traders in case you suddenly realise you need a rugby shirt whilst cruising down the motorway. Parking is plentiful, which makes a mockery of the need to employ a so-called parking management company to fleece money from genuine customers, and the toilet facilities (at the least the gents) and spacious and clean. Overall this isn't the best service station you'll ever find but it is located in one of the most backwatery backwaters of the UK motorway network so it's perhaps what you'd expect. p.s. It's also not located in Chester despite the name and the address on TripAdvisor - it's about eight miles from Chester on the outskirts of the village of Elton. It would perhaps have made more sense to call it "Roadchef Elton" or maybe "Roadchef Ellesmere Port" given that that town is much closer than Chester.

I called in because I was early for a meeting in Chester having set off early from Manchester to beat the traffic. It is not the most attractive of places. I avoided McDonalds and opted for a breakfast from Fresh Food Cafe. The service was good and the young lad brought my breakfast over to where I was sitting. The breakfast itself was not really up to much. The fried eggs were not well-cooked and the sausages looked as though they had been taken out of a freezer. With a cup of tea it was over £10 so not really value for money either.

This was our 1st stop @ Chester RoadChef Services en-route from London to Llandudno! We had a family lunch with selections of fish & chips, Chicken Tikka & Freshly Cooked Burger & Salad. The whole family was impressed with the quick & efficient service coupled with the unusually delicious food for motorway services. In addition, the prices were really competitive compared with other Motorway Services that we've used in the past! So we'd recommend a stop-off @ Chester RoadChef!

Hemos utilizado esta parada de descanso muchas veces y tengo que alabar que siempre es preciosa y limpia es más importante los inodoros están bien cuidados, teniendo en cuenta cuántas personas deben usar estas durante todo el día! Los precios de la comida y las bebidas locales están caros.

This was our restroom break in our Collette tours. During this one hour break we were able to fine Aluminium letters as a gift for our daughter. Quite unusual I thought & also some thing quick to drink. A very enjoyable place to stop. for a large group of people.

I've not been to these services on the M56 before. There are a fair range of franchises, including one of the increasingly popular noodle bars but we stuck with the reliable Costa coffee. I sat there wondering who on earth designed the weird décor.

Called here for a snack - and no problerms whatsoever with the establishment, which is clean, and well set out,Excellent toilets. Costa Coffee very good indeed. High prices - but not unexpected for a Motorway service area. Unfortunately, our experience was affected by car park problems. It would appear that some "improvement" in taking place, with barriers all over the place, causing confusion. Why it beyond the wit and wisdom of those in charge not to tell visitors what is happening, is beyond me. No notice to apologise for any inconvenience. No notice to tell us what they're doing - and why. No notice to give us a "this will be finished by" date. No excuses for non-existent communication these days..

This really was just great for a quick bite of big plain fry up plus a mug of tea for two at £14. Good service

We stopped here for brunch and were pleasantly surprised, not only by th equality and size of the meal served but the service afforded us by the young folk working there.

Used this twice over the festive period. Despite being very busy with numerous coach parties it was clean and well stocked. Costas was very god with good food and drinks. Excellent

"Fresh Food Café"sehr empfehlenswert und wirklich erst nach Bestellung frisch zubereitet. Daher kann es natürlich bei entsprechendem Andrang auch mal etwas dauern...Aber die Wartezeit lohnt sich einfach...

Called in on the way to Liverpool and thought we would have a traditional breakfast from the Fresh Food Cafe. The young lad serving was lovely, but the breakfast arrived and it was cold. Dried up bacon and the eggs cold could not believe it. Cost £17.45 for two breakfasts, cup of coffee and tea it was a total waste of money.

Called in for tea and went to the Fresh Food Café....ordered piri piri chicken. After waiting for probably 20 minutes it arrived at the table and never left the plate! Greasy, low quality looking chicken...very brown (looked like the oil hadn't been changed in a while) filled with tomato and one huge outer lettuce leaf, all deliciously topped with a plastic cheese slice...absolutely awful. Drunk my tea until really grubby marks started to appear halfway down the inside of the mug. I did wonder why the queue was so long for McDonalds...obviously everyone had tried the alternative previously! Toilets & whole area grubby, smelly and totally unacceptable....will not visit again.

Looked around here for something to eat-Reasonable selection of food outlets and facilities including parking

Nipped in here for a quick wee stop and the hope of some brekkie. The place seemed clean. Toilets were clean and the sraff we encountered wre all friendly.A new mcdonalds had opened but we decided to purchase from what was called the Fresh Food Cafe. I had a sausage bap with a fried egg and my other half had a full English bap. Both freshly cooked. All the food was well cooked, egg yolks still runny, nothing was swimming in grease! We both had hot drinks to go with the meal. probably overpriced, but all service station food is. And it beat mcdonalds breakfast by a mile.

Called in for a light breakfast and we chose the Vegatarian option. The tomatoes were shrivelled around the edges, the beans were cold, the has brown was like a solid piece of plastic and the toast was inedible. Coffee was warm liquid and not drinkable. No wonder the place was empty?????

You don't pull in to these oases on the motorway desert with any expectation of a culinary treat, but that's no reason to be lenient with them. They're not cheap, they're not atmospherically attractive, they make it as plain as can be that they don't give a toss what you feel or what you get from the place and I feel sorry for the minority of those who work there and are pleasant, decent people. We had, between us, a cheese & tomato panini - choices for my vegetarian wife were too few for the word "choices" to cover it - which was ploddingly mediocre, and a leek & potato soup that was verging on tasty but too thin and with very little evidence of potato in it. We hope we shan't need to come here again.

Fined £90 for 3 hours parking when the signage is not clear nor lit, visited 2100-0000, can't see signs avoid this place

Visited here on way home and was horrified to see a rat infestation outside macdonalds! The container outside was open too!! Was disgusting and very unhygenic

I visited Roadchef in Chester to access their Costa Coffee and complete some administrative work on my laptop in between home visits. A couple of weeks later i was horrified to recieve a bill for £90 because i had parked in the roadchef car park for an excess time period even though i was fully using their facilities and services during this timethis is not an area where parking is particularly pressuredit is a motorway service station not a shopping precinctalthough the service i recieved at the time was perfectly acceptable it turned out to be an extremely expensive coffee and cakeif parking is such an issue then let customers pay for parking beyond a set time dont just send out random fines
