Love this place for a stop-off between Manchester and Glasgow! It's just lovely for lakeside stroll with soft grass to picnic on and paths to explore away from cars and roads.

Nice area, but one chef with a STINKING attitude.! The Patty on its own that was ordered by a Female with her son, was for our dog who had traveled from Glasgow down and was hungry. Also when someone asks for a Big Mac it doesn’t mean a cold stinking bun with a whole lettuce on top. You’re lucky a young lass was standing or else you would have got a mouth full ya cheeky wee s**t.

I stopped here briefly to have a quick bite to eat and refuel. I had the chozen noodles with a chicken breast and Katsu curry. I got the child’s portion as I didn’t want too much. It turns out this was enough for me. Very tasty and a big change from McDonalds or the Cornish Pasty place .

On arriving at this very busy McDonalds one would have assumed that due to their high volume of customer flow, one would expect to receive fresh food…. Alas this was not the case..! Both McCrispy chicken burgers were certainly crispy, even the interior contents of the burgers were overcooked and dry, so much so they both resembled “Tasteless Cardboard” 🤮 The staff in attendance really couldn’t give two hoots about the rank crap they serve to their unsuspecting customers or about their positions within this company ! My advice is “ KEEP DRIVING PAST” until you reach the next services and hopefully what’s produced is at least edible ! If McDonalds are going to try and emulate KFC they REALLY need to learn how to cook chicken burgers , after all it’s really not rocket science !

Visited here because it was a good location to stretch my legs after bad road conditions on the A69. Lovely setting behind the service station itself. Packed with lots of people and their children. The site was littered with rubbish on the edges of the Car Park. Mcdonald's was busy with no social distancing in operation. The Toilets were absolutely disgusting. Toilets not flushed. Filth on the floors. A disgrace in these current Covid times. Management needs to note that this was the filthiest motorway station I have witnessed in decades. Whats can the hygiene be like elsewhere. I picked up a tea and a toasted sandwich and left in amazement and thought how bad was that experience! No obvious Covid precautions. No social distancing and Cleanliness the worst I have seen in decades . Toilet areas need a thorough deep clean and steamed to get clean. Better lighting would help

Cannot accept take away cups for eat in at dirty tables. Spilt coffee all down the edge of our table. Not acceptable to serve takeaway for eat in though products satisfactory. Can’t the dishwasher be trusted to clean the crockery etc? Just leads to unnecessary recycling, use of plastics though cutlery and serviettes were not offered. No evidence of table cleaning while we were there and group of 8 served. Track and trace was working.

When we stopped here, we were put off by all the rubbish people had left lying about on the road. But once inside we were quite impressed by what it had to offer and the views. There were several eateries ....a Costa and Cornish bakery, plus a WH Smith’s. The Costa coffees were quite dear at just under £7 for small flavoured lattes, but we sat by the window overlooking a lovely lake with ducks and swans on. To be fair we really dislike all MacDonald's restaurants and their style but it was the only hot food available at this location, at this time. However, to further the disappointment, the order was wrong and had to be re-cooked. So we waited, a very long time, in a queue of many starving, phone-fiddlers, awaiting our number to be called. Paying to stand in line and wait rather desperately for fast-food-served-slow seemed, unaccountably, rather humiliating. On being summoned we stepped up and had our papers checked and then scurried off to the plastic table and chairs. We did eat some of it, cleared our own table and left. We felt that, should the need ever arise, we should now know the ropes for prison dining.

We have never stopped here before but really glad we did, round the back of the services was a beautiful large lake with a path all the way round it. There were plenty of waste/recycling and poo bins on the way round with some benches to have a sit down on and appreciate the surroundings. We sat outside and had some lunch from WH Smiths, 2 Ginsters sandwiches/crisps/chocolate bar/2 drinks and a newspaper, the total came to £13.78 (typical service prices double what we usually pay). The toilets were immaculately clean as was the rest of the services. We stopped off here at about 3am whilst driving north. Fancied something to eat and stretch my legs. Because of the time I could park next to the shops (lots of space). First time (I had to double take) I've seen lots of white geese taking up a lot of space in a car park, not bothered and sleeping, cuddled together, no doubt on the warm surface (even at this time in the morning). The toilets were clean and tidy. The service at McDonald's was slick (no queuing) and friendly. My meal was lovely, even my chips were done just the way I like them (crisp and dry)....and hot too! McDonalds have a self-service ordering system which meant that the queue was horrendous as people tried to negotiate their way through it. Pleased to see it was available in a range of languages though. Once you had your ticket printed, there was a 20 minute wait for your order to be processed. There were lots of staff milling around doing very little or nothing. Noticed the staff stuff waste in the non-recyclable bin without bothering to sort it. As to the Costa place, a cake cost £2.39 and the girl on the till struggled to work out the change from a fiver and had to call her supervisor over (she'd made a mistake with the entry). Staff attitudes leave a lot to be desired. Didn't bother stopping there on my return journey.

This motorway stop on the M74 used to be a favourite, with a good place to walk the dogs and a good coffee stop. This week (Oct 2014) it was dreadful. It was around midday, and the queues were long and slow at the Costa offer, and were also long at McDonalds.. Costa were running short of pastries, but what we had was quite good as were the Americanos. However the tables were sticky, unclean, and uncleared (short of staff?). The seats were uncomfortable and not very clean. The toilets were messy, and some cubicles had missing or broken locks.Never again (unless someone reports a vast improvement).

We've stopped at this McDonalds on the A74 a few times now, since it opened some months ago. Our first visit was great as there was obviously a team of trainers from head office helping them get it up and running. Last visit, a couple of months back wasn't good with long queues, etc. The trainers were long gone.Today we thought we'd give it another go to see if they'd worked out the kinks. It wasn't a particularly busy day nor the busiest time of the day but it was chaos. There was at least one till doing nothing but taking orders and cash but a complete failure of organisation in getting these orders out again to the waiting customers. Individual components were turning up (say fries) then waiting ten minutes till the rest of the order turned up. Staff were unsure which components went with which orders. Customers who'd paid were milling about trying to capture bits of their orders.Needs some serious rethink and a clear system to be put in place. Take the BK route of one order receipt, one tray. Stop taking new orders when you run out of space for trays and get the server chasing up existing orders before taking any more. Keep a supply of fries going and don't serve them up till the big macs (or whatever) arrive. It's not rocket science.More training or a new manager required please!

Today we visited and as it was a Sunday i decided on a chicken dinner, big mistake.Where do i start?Chicken was very dry and not hot, roast potatoes were small and hard, carrots were raw, parsnips were rock hard and had a bitter taste.Mash was tasteless and cauliflower cheese had a vague taste of cheese. The peas and yorkshire were ok but the latter was very small. My gravy was lukewarm so they kindly heated it till it was more like molten lava!I had to ask for napkins as apparently us customers cannot be trusted to use the dispensers!I wouldn't advise anyone to eat here, had an upset stomach all afternoon.

I have reviewed this Restaurant as part of the Galloway Arms Hotel, so this will hopefully clarify the earlier reviews. We have been on a number of occasions since the last review and we have not been disappointed with the food at the Nine Mile Bar & Bistro within The Galloway Arms Hotel. On this visit we chose two times Two Course Specials priced at £14.50 each. The Starters were battered Chicken Goujons, which was quite a large portion and Tempura coated Prawns. Both dishes were very good and the Chicken alone would have been enough for my Wife as a main course. (Small Eater). My Wife had the Beef Stroganoff and I had the Salmon in Dill sauce for the main courses. Normally, we tend to have just the main courses and therefore we had to take home the chips, which were provided along with the Stroganoff half & half. A pint of Moretti is £3.50 and a large Chardonnay is £5.00 and the total bill without tip came to £37.50. The surroundings in the Hotel's main bar is simple, but cozy. A 10 minute drive from Dumfries gets you to this Hotel and I think that it is worth this very small effort.More

Great atmospheric diner...very retro and great coffee. Good choice of ice cream and attentive staff...loved the old fashioned style.
