Nice food, a bit expensive for what it is though and the stupidity of not having facilities to go the toilet or wash your hands before eating leaves me baffled..

Disappointed with our food today, gutted because there was so many other places we could’ve ate. The picture of the homemade chips on the sign caught our attention however we were served oven chips which were like cardboard. Cost the best part of £20 for sausage and chips , fish and chips 2 curry sauce and two drinks which would’ve been ok if it was enjoyable but sadly far from it. Curry sauce was lovely, and decent sized fish but sadly the chips and the sausage let it down. I Would not recommend.

Do not go to this cafe! We had 2x adult chips, sausage and gravy, 1x child sausage and chips and 2x coffee. Just over£20! The portion sizes were all very small child size and cold. The gravy was vey watery with big lumps of gravy skin in it. The tomato sauce is that watered down it was like an orange jelly! I felt very ripped off will not go here ever again!

Popped in for a quick lunch snack. Ordered chips with curry sauce. Food arrived quickly but chips were Luke warm and curry sauce like water - yuk! Served in polystyrene dish even though we were sitting inside. Signage and menu look like a fish and chips shop with chips having various toppings options so thought would be great chips. My mistake - pre cooked chips left on hot plate. Don’t see the appeal of the place which had plenty of seating and was clean with option of sitting outside but more like a cafeteria than restaurant or cafe.

We have eaten at this place many times in the past,& it’s always been ok,but after yesterday’s visit will not be returning, We were served our wine in plastic cups, given plastic cutlery & our food came in take away containers, I understand they have got to be careful due to COVID,but all the other cafes & restaurants at Trentham gardens are still managing to use proper cutlery & crockery, just imagine how much waste they are creating, they should be doing table service, but people are having to go to the counter to order,I also saw the girl touching food with her bare hands, absolutely disgusting,

So I visited trentham, and I thought I would go and get some food, so I went to Riverside. Really affordable meals etc. But other than that the chips were cold and my coffee was terrible, the coloured lady served me and gave me poor service and gave me the wrong coffee and the coloured gentleman was really rude giving me my food. The coloured man seemed really rude towards me and and family. I was disgusted. I then realised that they had a family sitting in the restaurant which was quite shocking considering you cannot sit in the restaurant. Which is breaking the law. I will not be returning as they don’t seem to be abiding by the COVID rules and broke the law and the food and drink was terrible. There was however a younger woman with short hair. Working really hard I spoke to her while I was waiting for my food and she was lovely. She seemed to be stressed out by the other two she was working with but she was so polite and so happy to speak to people she was lovely! And deserves praise! She seems like such a hard working woman! I also saw that she was doing more than the other two as they just stood around doing nothing while the younger woman did the food. I really do feel for her.I will not be returning

This kiosk fish and chips were the worst I've ever had greasy cheap chips, the gravy was foul, the sausage was the cheapest fatty bulk buy variety. The oil was rancid and two chips in it was time to throw it away. Absolutely disgusting. £9 wasted. Do not, repeat do not go here. Save your money. Should have checked the reviews but expected more from trentham.

I had hoped that Pieminister would be open today, but it wasn’t, so I decided to give this place next door a try. There has been plenty of people wandering round with cones of chips today so I thought it was worth a go. I was charged over £8 for a small coffee, a sausage and a handful of chips. Th coffee was vile. I had one mouthful and poured it into the nearest planter. The sausage was ok, but nothing exciting. The chips were very disappointing, poor quality, inconsistently cooked. Not like proper chippy chips at all. Honestly not worth the calories so they went in the bin. The whole thing was very disappointing, and I had to go elsewhere to get a decent drink to take the taste away. Avoid this place, honestly it’s awful.

Nipped in today after a walk around the gardens, fish and chips for me and a tikka wrap for the wife. Food brilliant, restaurant was very, very busy since its a Friday in half term. I knew it would be worth a bit of an extra wait, the fish was even better than usual. Really crisp gold batter and according to my wife a great naan wrap. Staff absolutely off their feet getting food to tables. I don't normally write reviews but I've started an account today since the food was so good, the table service was really friendly and the girl managing everyone was fantastic. Just wish there were more of them so they didn't have to move so fast!

I visited Riverside on a recommendation from a friend last week and felt I had to make an account to write a review as I wasn't comfortable commenting on my experience at the time. While the younger woman at the till and the lady welcoming guests were both running back and forth serving customers, sanitising vacant tables and keeping the cafe presentable, I felt there was a very unpleasant atmosphere lead by who I assume to be the chef or manager. On any occasion the staff stopped to speak to each other, he appeared from behind the bar area to tell them off loudly in front of customers which was clearly upsetting to the young lady attempting to be a welcoming and professional face. A lady from the kitchen was also running food to tables, and I noticed a general mood of despair at the behaviour of the man berating them in hearing range of everyone. While the food was fine, I probably would have stayed for a coffee or one of the cakes I was offered if this behavior hadn't been going on. I love a bubbly environment where staff are able to chat while still getting their work done, but don't think I'll be returning. Unpleasant and a shame to see staff trying so hard and being treated this way.

Oh! she said. .Another young, disinterested girl brought them back and just plonked them down without a word of apology....but guess what? The 6 original TINY halves were now on 3 plates! £2.10 each......must have cost all of a few pence each in some cheap warehouse or supermarket. Terrible......

We had a lovely visit to Trentham Village shopping centre and quite fancied having some fish and chips so we headed over to the Riverside restaurant. The positives were that the more mature member of staff that told is how to order was lovely very warm and welcoming and cleaned tables quickly in between customers. Covid-19 measures were in place in that name and contact details had to be left of you ate inside the restaurant. We chose to eat outside and tables were clean. Our food was served promptly and portions are reasonable. The negatives were that our order was wrong, we received the wrong sides for our children. Secondly the young female member of staff just dumped the food on our table, her level of service was severely lacking. She did not even acknowlege us or check if we were happy with everything ( we were a group of 2 adults and 2 kids) she gave us two forks (fine if you are just eating chips but a bit difficult with fish). My husband then had to queue for 15 minutes to get forks by which time his own food had gone cold. We went at 1pm so it was busy but that is not an excuse for poor service. The main let down was the chips, had I known they use frozen chips instead of making their own I would have gone elsewhere. A portion of fish and chips with peas cost £7.50 which is more than reasonable if the chips are homemade, overpriced when frozen. Not sure if any of the other meals were better than what we had but I would not visit again.

We called in here after wandering around the shops for a while. We chose it as the menu looked quite good and we wanted a sandwich of some sort. The café itself is really big inside and has a balcony with outdoor seating on, which is probably really popular in summer. We sat down and chose what we wanted, which was, Omelette and Chips with salad and Staffordshire Oat Cakes with drinks. You have to order and pay at the same time, so the other half went up and ordered, coming back armed with the drinks. The food only took a couple more minutes and was really nice. The total bill for Omelette, chips with salad twice, Oat cakes, Bowl of chips, two tea and a coffee was £22, which I thought was really good value. The café was really clean, friendly staff and we would definitely go back.

So fish and chips, a British staple which takes a few minutes at most. You'd like to think it should only take a few minutes at most to serve people right?Wrong, expect to wait in line for minimum 20 minutes because the staff take about 5 minutes per order. Even longer if they order a coffee.Having waiting so long you'd expect to get your food pretty quickly.Nope, cue another 25 minute wait for what can't be described as anything better than canteen food.Bitterly disappointed, will not eat here again.

All of the ingredients are incredibly cheap. Toasties, wraps, and chips (frozen chips) staff were nice but weren’t pleased that we wanted our scones (with jam and cream) warmed up. The cream came in a sauce pot and was actually squirty cream (one tiny pump of it that didn’t cover half of the scone) I’ve never had food so cheap before really. The staff were attentive as it was quiet and whisked away any plates when other customers left. As I say, very cheap and cheerful.

Queued for 20 minutes to order food. The queue wasn't that long but the system they operate ie. one person taking the order and payment and also preparing the drinks is not quick enough when there is a queue. There was no apology for the wait. We were ordering fish and chips and I could see the plates of food which were being prepared which looked ok. When the food arrived the fish was the shape of a long spring roll. I thought It must be a battered sausage and asked a member of staff if there had been a mistake but she said "no it is fish." The fish I had seen being prepared looked like fish but what we were served did not.

After touring Trentham Gardens shopping village we called in to this cafe for refreshments. Chose a panini with turkey ham and cheese. Turns out it was not turkey, plus ham, plus cheese but turkey ham - which they didn't have! They offered us turkey sausage instead - big mistake. Horrible panini arrived with a few slices of microwaved turkey sausage and a small amount of cheese. Some very tired salad sat alongside. First time I can remember finding food inedible but this was. Tea was also dreadful. Prices ridiculous. Fortunately there are many excellent places for food in the village but avoid this place at all costs.

Portion sizes are tiny and them giving you smaller plates try to make the food look like there is more of it! Tikka wrap was disgusting and falling apart, got to the point where we fed it all to the ducks. Due to the lack of chips on my plate my Nan went into the cafe to ask for a slice of bread and butter, they said it was £1.60! We couldn’t believe it, if you visit the local supermarket it is 55p for a Morrisons own full loaf of bread. We refused and were unhappy with the food we had and will 100% not go back. I visited here with my girlfriend, after having paid over £18 for 2 portions of chips, gravy and fish with 2 drinks. The food took at least 20 minutes to arrive even though the place was empty. The lady serving was rude when we ordered our food and when the food arrived she only brought out 1 tiny jug of gravy (we had paid for 2 portions) and asked if this would be enough. We said no as we had paid for 2 portions then she took another 5 minutes getting another tiny jug. They then started to shut the place as we were still eating, drawing blinds, switching off menu screens, turning lights off etc. The tables were sticky and the food itself was of a very poor standard. This "Restaurant" is located at Trentham Gardens. When we visited it was raining heavily so the place was packed and we were advised that there would be a 15 minute delay in receiving our meals. First we had to search for a table and were lucky to find one. This is really a fish and chip place but it does serve other food. I asked for a hot dog and chips and my wife a tuna and mayo baked potato. The baked potatoes were pre-cooked so only required the tuna and mayo to be placed on top. While we waited I watched a young waitress serving food to other diners. I could not believe she walked from the serving area each time with one plate to serve one person at a time rather than at least bringing out two meals i.e. one in each hand! Eventually my hot dog arrived and she said she would go and get my wife's baked potato. My hot dog was disgusting and appeared to be one of those that comes in a tin of 10 chipolata sized sausages and had a couple of burned onions on it. I "finished" my meal and another waitress approached our table. She was horrified that I had eaten and my wife was still to receive her meal and hurried off to get it. Surprisingly the baked potato turned out to be ok. On looking at the bill I was amazed to see that even this had an error on it in that it said "Tretham Gardens" and NOT Trentham Gardens. This is an experience we will not be repeating.

My husband and I visited this restaurant on Sunday at about 1pm for lunch. The service was extremely slow, after waiting in line for more than 5 minutes only 1 person had been served so as there were another 15 people in the queue before us we decided to try again later. Before leaving Trentham we did try again and ordered a takeaway. We were the only ones at the take away hatch but it still took more than 15 minutes for our ham and cheese toast and a tuna baguette to be made this is after hearing the staff moaning that people shouldn't order from the take away hatch as they saw it as jumping the queue. (Then don't offer the option) We left with our food which wasn't even that good. I struggled to find the tuna in my baguette and the toastie wasn't anything to shout about either. Me and my family visited today at lunch time, we waited ages for food to come and when it did I've never seen anything like it! My dad ordered fish which was all curled up and looked like a tail, he had very few chips which were hard and frozen then around a teaspoons worth of mushy peas. The rest of the families meals were served on like a afternoon tea side plate where there is a hole for a mug! There wasn't enough food on the plate to feed my 15month old son let alone fully grown adults. When we were at the till we asked to swap the salad for peas only to be told we have to pay for peas we cannot swap which was £1.60! I could see the manager following the staff around making them feel uncomfortable, taking the ladle off them to put smaller amount of beans onto people's plates, my adults sausage chips and gravy literally had about 1 chips on the plate, when we told the staff she knew as they had a lot of complaints but the management won't listen. They won't have a business as I could see a lot of customers were not happy. The only thing going for the place is the staff which got treated with no respect, I never usually complain but I was so disgusted and felt sorry for the staff!

We visited Trentham Gardens and decided to eat at the Riverside Cafe. Perhaps we should have left as soon as we entered! It certainly does let the rest of the shopping village down I'm afraid. The interior is very dated. The carpet is brown and the tables were sticky! Having ordered the fish, chips and peas, we looked forward to eating traditional cod and chips. The food arrived promptly. On the plate was a small portion of cooked frozen chips-not at all proper 'chippy' chips. Although the fish was large, it didn't look or taste like cod. The batter was very thick and the fish inside was tasteless, watery and slimey. Grease was the only thing I could taste. The fish fillet had clearly been frozen beforehand (water oozing out) and it certainly was either pollock or the Vietnamese river cobbler! When you arrive at the cafe the meal is labelled as 'fish' and chips. The word 'cod' isn't seen anywhere- we should have realised! When ordering soft drinks, you are also given a plastic cup to drink it out of instead of a proper glass - another small criticism. At £6.95, I would certainly recommend that you eat elsewhere.

The food is very good. The fish is fresh and white with a crisp batter and the chips include a generous portion. We like the place (no pun intended).

We stopped off at Trentham Gardens for a break travelling the M6 and this place serves the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. Would recommend to any lovers of good traditional English food. There's also lovely scenery and fields which kept the kids entertained while me and the wife enjoyed our lunch.

Today I went to the Riverside cafe to have a something to eat, I would never visit the place again, I felt discriminated against because because I want a normal sausage sandwich or a cheese and ham toasted sandwich. They fail to tell you or advertise openly that they will give you a chicken and lamb sausage or some pathetic excuse called turkey ham, when questioned they say it's because it's all Halal. Hidden away on the menu in small print it tells you that they pass a sausage of as chicken and lamb, I felt betrayed and disgusted, society talks about equal rights and diversity which I'm 100% behind. But why should I be manipulated and deceived when I don't want a chicken/lamb substitute sausage, what happened to options and choices, I disagree with the Halal way animals are slaughtered, so customers should have a choice, I believe restaurants should advertise openly where they get there food and how it is prepared giving the consumers a choice. The Riverside cafe is a place to avoid, I was forced to go next door and buy a bacon and sausage sandwich and return to my friends in the Riverside cafe.Trentham gardens is an excellent place to visit with some lovely bespoke shops, the Riverside lets Trentham gardens down, I have been to better road side cafes.

We came on the 27th July 2016 with my mum and my 2 daughters (6 & 4) for a quick brunch before setting of to Alton Towers. The staff were great. The food was reasonably priced. The atmosphere was friendly and there was also a lot to do in the area. I would highly recommended coming back again to enjoy the activies around Trenthum Gardens. The seating area at the back of the cafe had a lovely view to the gardens which makes it even better.

Trentham Village can be a tad expensive for some folks to eat. Well here is a good alternative if you want good wholesome food on a budget.Clearly the Fish and Chips with mushy peas is where its at as everyone was having that and the fish was huge and flaked as you put your fork in it. Delicious!!They also do Lobby imn Autumn and Winter so I cant wait to try that too!!

We were visiting the centre and decided with grand children to have drink and snack. Several other of the cafe's were very busy but this once hid in a corner was much quieter that we were slightly concerned. But on entering and requesting drinks and food and counter they were great. Whilst coffee is the old type of machine, press button and out if pops it was still good. the food though - fish and chips - was great and tremendous value. At £6.99 for large freshly cooked fish, chips and proper mushy peas it was great food and even better value. Only marginally more money than some fish and chip shop takeaways and no washing up! Great, keep up good work.

I just had oatcakes here and my partner had Fish & Chips. Both were perfect. The food couldn't have been any better. The fish was cod and perfectly tender with nice crispy batter. The oatcakes were cooked just right and came out piping hot with a side salad accompaniment. For both meals including drinks the entire bill came to less than £20.The service was quick. We ordered at the counter and were brought our food within 10-15 minutes of sitting down even though the restaurant was quite busy. The waitress was very polite and checked that everything was satisfactory.Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be visiting again. If you're in Trentham Gardens and intend to grab a bite to eat then this place is definitely worth trying.

I went to riverside café 31/05/2016 with my two sisters for lunch we ordered three meals and paid. We waited 25mins for our meals we kept asking where are meals were they told us they would be 5 minutes but only two arrived, I was still waiting for mine 5 minutes later when I questioned this I was asked if I had a problem and I said that I hadn't received my lunch, the waitress then asked to see my receipt to check what had been ordered, once realising that they only had sent two meals out they said mine would be the next 5 minutes. they sent the manager to me, I told her that I came with my two sisters to have lunch with them not to eat mine 20 minutes after they had finished theirs, she then came back to me 5 minutes later with my lunch and also offered us all a free hot drink which we refused i asked for my money back, which she did give me. I did attempt to eat my lunch but I couldn't enjoy this as I was eating on my own. my sisters said the the food was ok. Let's hope that riverside café learn by this mistake and improve or they could lose a lot of customers.

Unimpressed with the coffee. Tasted like water. Had better coffee from Nescafe. Poor hygiene practices. Witnessed one of the kitchen staff preparing food with bare hands while the other person had gloves. Hair nets and gloves are essential in that environment. Nice view and seating are outside but wouldn't return to the cafe

Avoid at all costs. The fish was inedible and I can only describe it as slimey and tasteless. Definitely not cod or haddock. Made me feel sick.

The fish was not cod or haddock but cheap catfish and the chips were oven chips.Together with diet coke we paid just under £28. I am not sure if they could be fined by trading standards for having substituted cod or haddock with such a cheap catfish. They did that to maximise their profits but the customer is not getting proper fish and chips. Although the fish is a decent size the texture is not right at all. Shame on them. We also waited a long time. This place is a rip off.

We visited Riverside just for a coffee and a snack at the weekend during the Christmas run up. Cafe looked busy but dirty (carpet in a fish and chip cafe is not a great idea as it was filthy). The queue was massive so my partner ordered while I held the table, fortunately the table closest to the kitchen. The disgusting lack of food hygiene I watched going on was appalling, so bad I went up to my partner and told him to not bother with the food, just have the coffees. Dirty dishrags being used to wipe up food in the prep area then used to go and clean the tables, then just chucked back on the prep area. What looked like a paint scraper given the multi purpose use of cutting the paninis in half and scraping all the goo off the cutting boards. People in and out of the kitchen, past all the staff coats hanging up by the door, wearing the same gloves to serve, scratch ears and heads, prepare food and clean tables. Wearing gloves is not an alternative to washing your hands you know! Altogether a vile experience, only topped off by the truly miserable waitress tugging up her leggings every five seconds, scowling and loping about. Avoid like the plague!

Let my £40 order go with an Uber eats driver without swiping it off. 2 hours later, still no food and told that I should’ve ordered off their site instead and I need to go and sort it myself. Very poor service.

This is an average pub which may or may not get your order right, completely depends on the day. Food may be burnt or it may be good. It is hit and miss but I do return as the prices are great and they always have good offers on which would be under sizzling pubs.

Really appalled at the customer service tonight, used Kings before and would have recommended to anyone, not anymore. Made out to be a liar that they had knocked on my door they definitely hadn’t because we were literally right next to it and in the window. The driver explained he’d gone to the wrong house to me when he came back to deliver, the guy on the phone at kings needs to learn to tell the truth. Said he couldn’t refund me because the food was already cooked, don’t see how that’s my problem! Won’t be ordering from here again now.. doesn’t give you the option to reply. You’ve been my house for years, your driver went the wrong house, your problem!
