We come to Rivers regularly and have never been disappointed. The service is great and the food is amazing. Regardless of what we order its always good quality and a good portion, seasoned well and very satisfying. Today we had chicken in plum and chilli sauce, as well as beef flank soup with rice noodles. The menu is large enough that anyone will find something that suits them. Come on an empty stomach as you will definitely leave full.

Me and one of my friend visited rivers 2 weeks before I really had very bad experience their which I feel like sharing; that day we ordered food and it was a bit spicy, so we ordered a fresh juice and they said "there is no fresh juice", but when the next person who came to after a few seconds, there was fresh juice for them. And the employees were so rude to us. We felt really disrespectful and disgusting, I prefer to eat somewhere else next time. I am writing it really short, I'm just to sharing an awful experience which I have never faced from anywhere else. Reply: ( I didn't have any other way to reply to you so I'm just editing my comment), I was just sharing my experience in there and I can clearly say that staff were really rude, it was an awful experience there. And I dont care if you are justifying your behaviour by saying the excuse about Increase in your sale. The actual thing happend there was first we ordered an orange juice and they said they don't have an orange juice so we asked apple they said they don't have it neither and when we asked which one do you have the staff said" there is no fresh juice". And for the next person there was!! please treat everyone equally!!!

The food was wonderful. The staff were quite busy and it appeared to be understaffed to say it was mother's day, not a customer issue though so they lose a star for service. Atmosphere was great. To say it was quite busy it was quiet and cosy.

This was our first experience in a Chinese restaurant and it was alright. As we weren't familiar with the menu, we decided to go for set dinner for 2 (see photos attached for both the menu and photo of food). It has started with a soup that though was tasty, it felt a bit too fat for what we are used to. While we were eating it, we got ribs brought in which cam with really tasty sauce. The ribs were normal but the sauce (as well as sauces with other food) was really tasty. For the main we had egg fried rice with selection of chicken, beef and pork. The rice was really tasty and the meats went well with it but both beef and pork were a bit fattier than we prefer. At the end we had Chinese tea which I believe was some sort of white tea. We have also ordered wine which was fairly good. In summary, if you know what you would like to eat, you shouldn't be dissapoointed but I wouldn't recommend coming in blind.

One of the best meals I've ever had, tried some off the "English chinese" menu and some off the "Chinese" menu. It was all incredible! Highlight was the hongkong roast duck!

The best Chinese in Huddersfield by a long margin

Great service and fantastic food at a more than reasonable price. I've visited this restaurant quite a number of times over the last few years, maybe 4 or 5 times this year and they always deliver on taste and quality. Highly recommended.

Our favourite Chinese restaurant in Huddersfield - excellent fresh food and extensive menu. Really friendly laid back staff- been coming here for years and haven’t had a bad meal yet!

Lovely atmosphere as is very relaxed servers are always polite and professional and will happily give you a genuine recommendation on what to and what not to order. There’s 2 menus one being the usual uk style asian food which is still lovely and then an authentic one,this being my menu of choice . My personal favourites are the dim sum combination for 2 which never fails to be nice and for my main the Szechuan prawn balls with a side of boiled rice both cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Also the duck and leek is a winner if your looking for something a bit lighter and all the portions are good for sharing.

I had the most terrific/embarrassing experience today at Rivers about 4:15pm. Little wonder it's not a top rated restaurant here. The Chinese girl putting on a white shirt was very rude and uncourteous. I walked in to eat and had gone with an energy drink I got for my work later this evening. She walked up to me to say that I wasn't supposed to come in with a drink. I tried to explain to her that it's an energy drink and I wasn't going to open it and I couldn't have discarded the drink before coming in (note the energy drink wasn't open). To my dismay, her countenance changed. She shrugged and told me that she wasn't going to serve me and left me dejected, feeling humiliated and treated less like a human. I asked myself, what kind of effrontery and if I am being treated like this because I'm a blackman. I walked up to her, and her colleague, who was much older was kind enough to listen to me tried to let me sit to be served but this anger filled and uncourteous waiter insisted she wasn't going to serve me and that I was shouting at her ( for demanding her reasons for not taking my order). It is really sad and I've learnt the hard way which has left me traumatised by this kind of bad service. There is no sense of customer service at all

Lovely food - especially from the traditional Chinese menu - the mapo tofu is fab, as are the dumplings. We come here quite often and the food is always fab.

Very disappointed, raw chicken. Rude staff when advised them of my raw chicken and was then told sometimes pink chicken is ok to eat. Fried chicken also means not fried on the menu supposedly. Had better hopes for this place. Owners replied to my review and tried calling me a liar how typical. You should take this comment and do better rather than trying to argue your case.

I'd describe the service as relaxed rather than slow, but I was in on a Monday evening so expected as there were only two people serving. The atmosphere may be better on Friday/ weekend but Monday it was very quiet and only about a third full, but everyone there seemed to be enjoying the food. I enjoyed the food and there was more on the menu than your typical Chinese restaurant, which was a very pleasant surprise. Overall I'd give it 4.5. Very impressed.

Very bizarre experience. Had to write down our own order, the food was nice but small portions for the price and was slightly cold when it came out. Staff didn’t say a lot, one lady was lovely and friendly but the other lady who served us was really rude and standoffish. Mixed opinions but probably will not be back just purely for the lack of customer service. Has really great potential, all the staff just need to be more friendly. Otherwise, decent food and decent value but portions could be bigger.

The food is amazing. Really really tasty. But the service leaves a lot to be desired. Things like having to write down our own order and then take it to the desk. And telling us they don't have any high chairs when you can see them at the bottom of the stairs on the way to the toilet.

The worst service in Huddersfield! Our group of 4 went late on a Saturday night, there was only 1 other group in the restaurant. We had to write down our order on the waitresses notepad ourselves, the restaurant was really cold, the food was decent quality but small portion sizes considering the prices and it was cold. The staff didn’t say a word to us when we ordered or when they delivered the food to our table. Not even a thank you, I thought it was rude.

We go here quite often for some of the best Chinese food we've had. We used to eat regularly in London Chinatown and have eaten Chinese in some of the world's great cities including Hong Kong, so to have this quality in Huddersfield is fantastic. However the experience seems to be either that it's near-empty and cold, but with good service: or it's busy but the service falls apart.

Ate here early evening with my young son. Place was fairly quiet, so no wait for a table. Polite young lady served us and food didn't take too long. The food was superb - I've been craving a really nice Chinese meal for a long time, and this was perfect. We had 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides and a couple of drinks, came to about £33 - very good value for the quality and quantity. Will definitely come again.

Great place. Took my family there and the food was amazing! Even my daughter who doesn’t normally like Chinese food loved it. Would unreservedly recommend. We’ll 100% be back.

Good tasty food, friendly staff

Me and my sister go here every year for our birthday ever since we moved to Huddersfield. My sister loves the food so much she sometimes orders from home. The food is absolutely top quality. It's very luxurious for the price you pay. Me mam haven't eaten Chinese food for a while and after many years, we convinced her to join us for our birthday. She was instantly hooked. A lot of my friends go here too. Me mam finally decided to go here for her birthday. Guess its now our own tradition.

Food was OK but the customer service was appalling! 6 of us attended last night & the young girl serving us had no social skills whatsoever!

Mediocre at best, certainly not £75 worth of delivery food. It took almost 2 hours to deliver, the soup was tasteless, ribs inedible due to being so tough and prawn crackers were soft. The mains were OK at best but not great. I don't think we will repeat our pretty poor experience.

Really nice food and you get plenty plus you get the choice of " authentic chinese food " or the food british people like " . If you like chinese food and live near Huddersfield pay a visit well worth it .

Great food and service but not the most hygienic to be rolling wontons / dumplings in open air whilst handling money etc

Unfortunately was very disappointed considering the reviews we had read before we went here. The lemon chicken was orange in colour and I had to pick out the bits of chicken that were not cooked!! The spring rolls tasted like curry? Overall the food wasn't particularly hot in temperature which may have explained the uncooked chicken. Also had to write our own order on a writing pad which was very strange. Maybe we just went on a "bad night" but don't think we will return.

The most authentic South Chinese cuisine around. Those who appreciate Yum Cha and Dim Sum it is a must! PS - check out the awesome Chardonnay

My grown up kids had been raving about this place for months - so we went today The food was good It was tasty and fresh Ok decor Prices - mid range The staff / waiters, mostly very young , were helpful and kind Credit to them really I however was so disappointed with the lady at the counter who took our payment First she was flaffing about with some receipts or something , perhaps tilling up - we stood there waiting to pay ; no acknowledgment or apology Next - she takes payment - whilst speaking to a colleague - and just threw my receipt on the table Did u enjoy your meal or thank you for coming would have been nice So rude ! You won’t have a restaurant without customers - so please Rivers put someone competent and courteous at the till I had to give 2 stars due to this very rude woman Apart from that - good food and very helpful staff Oh two more things- 25p for containers ! Can u believe it ? The audacity ! It was all down to the restaurant as the food took too long to arrive and we could not stay Ok I’m done

Would give a 0 if possible. Rang in advance to ask if any of the food was halal, when we got there we was referred to as the “Muslim table.” We ordered starters as soon as we got there and 45 mins later they still didn’t arrive. Spoke to a manager who claimed an order was never placed… and they never took our orders for mains so we left. Poor service avoid if you’re not one of their own!

The restaurants decor is very welcoming and upholds a good atmosphere. The servers showed us our table which was super clean.All of the staff were caring and accommodating towards us and made us feel welcomed. Throughout the meal the staff made sure we was satisfied. Gone down hill after covid we used to order often then prices went up whitch we didn't mind as food was good quality but then they cut portion sizes and food was just really poor quality and it totally put us off

We visited this afternoon, the environment is lovely, staff really nice. The food was cooked really well, except that it was way too salty (for both our dishes). I actually couldn’t finish mine as the salt was much too much. It’s a shame as I could tell it was really well made, I just don’t know why that much salt was put in. The oolong tea was lovely though.

Delicious food, great environment with friendly staff. Had a surprise birthday get together here at Rivers and it was a superb experience. Would definitely recommend it as a wonderful venue for small events.

Because of 'lockdown' our Group have been unable to eat out!We were at Rivers 2 yrs ago. The food was excellent then and thankfully it was equally, if not better this time around.There were 28 of us and the excellent food just kept coming.The staff were very attentive.Frankly, I cannot find any fault and it feels very Chinese - even the music.

Absolutely disgusting restaurant we spent £42 on a takeaway to witch as caused both parties food poisoning to nightly level not only that but had a RAT yes. RAT in the place next to the window to say the least or was massive never felt so disgusted this place needs shutting down ASAP

Had to give one star but that's being generous,don't mind paying a lot when it comes to food but nearly £40 for a takeaway..£12.50 for a mixed starter that was terrible,tiny dry ribs,awful prawn toast,mearly a tea spoon of dip..soggy spring rolls,don't get me started on main meals..more than half of it went it the bin, absolutely sh*te!!

One of the most underrated Chinese restaurants in Huddersfield. There's an extensive menu to choose from so all tastes can be accommodated for, and they ask whether you want it spicy or not so they can tailor it specifically for you. The restaurant is lovely- spacious and with ambient music in the background, and most importantly, the food is absolutely delicious. All for a very reasonable price. If anyone has the opportunity to drop by and eat there, I would highly reccomend!

Booked a large table for a birthday meal and the staff was more than happy that we turn up early to decorate the table. Really friendly staff, great service and amazing food. None of us were disappointed. They have two menus, one for the traditional Chinese recipes and the second for the English tastes Chinese recipes. Each menu offers an extensive selection. The food is amazing quality with great taste. Best Chinese food in our town. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be going back for more.

a party of seven of us booked last saturday , we waited nearly one hour for service , ordering drinks and food then when the food came out it was all together the starters mains and side dishes which sat there going cold it was not a very good experiance at all and we certainly wont be going back no apologies or nothing

As per title, I refused to eat Chinese food in the UK. My first experiences 17 years ago, a combination of local take-aways and a few restaurants that looked like red theme parks offering the McDonald version of Chinese food for the lowest common denominator (90% of Chinese food in the UK) left me so disappointed that I swore never to waste my time and money on British Chinese food. My experience yesterday changed everything. Not only the service was awesome (Thank you Diane) but the food was authentic and full of flavour. 2 menues were available; one adjusted for western expectations; eg lean meats, only chicken breast, etc. The other, a proper and more extensive traditional Chinese menu; sometimes spicier and with dishes that used all of the fish or more than just chicken breast, etc. The decor was restrained but well considered (no Kung Fu Panda posters or red paper lanterns) Prices were spot on, not dead cheap but great value (we had 2 soups, dumplings for 2, a rice dish, a chicken dish and 2 beers, £40)All in all, a great experience.

I needed a chinese restaurant early on aSunday evening. I hadn’t visited the centre of Huddersfield for many years. I phoned to make a booking & was told it was not necessary. As it where it was I was told it was opposite the Parish Church. Very easy to find. Not busy but obviously popular with Chinese clients; always a good sign. Had an excellent dining experience.

Ordered through their own website and all confirmed. Ten minutes later I received a phone call telling me they had cancelled my order as its too far. Its less than 3 miles away but their loss. Need to update website if they don't deliver to certain postcodes

Not good. Sweet and sour chicken was bland was cooked so much the colour came out of the carrots not good. Sauce was also not the word it was coated in goo Ordered a chicken dish at around £6.40 but asked to be veg instead and was charged an extra £5 on delivery so 11.40 for a veg dish. Unbelievable and again was not good. Was like a cheap Chinese buffet type food. Chips undercooked also.So nothing eaten by me or my partner Wouldn't waste my time visiting or ordering again.

The most authentic Chinese cuisine you can get without travelling far. The staff are great very warm and welcoming. Regardless of the fact that it can get quite busy in the evening you know that it's great food because it is full of the Chinese students just enjoying and having a great time. Can't fault the food always consistent. It can get a bit pricy but it worth it.

Just don’t bother if you actually want some food to arrive, I paid £27 by PayPal and after two phone calls, one hour and a half later they wanted me to agree to cancel cos they were VERY BUSY

Been twice this week and the food both times was excellent on both occassions and still remains the best around.But customer service is a little erratic.We had a issue with a main meal we ordered a sweet and sour mixed meat dish but got unknowingly as all items are in batter got chicken and prawns. Luckily the person eating the dish doesn't like prawns rather than an allergy otherwise things may have been different. Pointed out that dish was incorrect after waiting for waitress to get owner. Matter was rectified but no real apology or offer to provide a warm bowl of rice with the meal as it had been sat 15 mins going cold or sorry on leaving. The customer service let it down, hence the very good rather than excellent.Has this put us off going again no as the food is great.

Bon restaurant Chinois , des plats copieux et savoureux, nous avons prix une formule ' banquet ' pour 40 livres à deux comprenant chips crevettes, deux bols de soupes, 1 cuisse de canard laqué avec de galettes de riz, 3 plats différents ( boeuf, porc, poulet et riz, le tout accompagné de riz. Bon rapport qualité prix Service agréable

We had heard so good comments about this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The food was excellent and plentiful but service was a little haphazard as I believe new staff was being put through their paces. Our order was checked by a lady who I believe is the owner as a table nearby was wrong. But its good to have a decent Chinese restaurant in Huddersfield

Hands down one of the best Chinese restaurant in Huddersfield. Quite trendy furnishing. Can’t believe it took so long to discover this place. Prices are reasonable and relatively authentic. Can’t really beat Chinatown in Manchester/Leeds; but the closest you’re going to get in Huddersfield/Halifax area. There can be a bit of a communication barrier when ordering.

This is the place to go if you want authentic Chinese in Huddersfield. There are two menus to choose from so if you want Chinese tailored to the English palate they do that too.The staff were friendly and food arrived quickly. The depth of flavour was amazing and portion sizes were huge! We ordered two mains, a sharing appetizer and a rice to share and couldn't finish it all.Theres also a lot of options for vegetarians including a vegetarian set menu.Everything is also reasonably priced and the lady on the desk advised us about dishes that may be too fatty for us, has bones or even what will perhaps be too authentic for us! (Such as the crispy pig intestine which my partner really wanted to try.)We will definitely be back and would recommend any foodies to try this place out!

I cannot understand the reviews that accuse Rivers of serving bland food!Admittedly we don’t dine in the restaurant due to the time they close but we regularly order take out and I can say that their food is some of the most flavoursome I have ever tasted and far far superior to any Chinese restaurant or takeaway in the area.The king prawn in plum and chilli sauce dances on your tongue.The prawn toast, spring rolls: first class and all full of flavour and supplied with sauce should you wish to overlay the natural perfect flavours.For quality of ingredients, flavour and portion size, you won’t find better.

Had read the reviews online so decided to try it for ourselves. Not in a very good area of Huddersfield. Food was Ok but definitely wouldn't go out of our way to return. We found the food lacking in flavour. No draught beer & small bottles as usual ridiculously expensive
