Unfortunately this is the most unfriendly farm shop I’ve ever visited. People staring and no smiles. It put me off purchasing anything. At least the customers were nice. I wouldn’t go again.

Ignore the photos of bacon rolls or similar. The only food you can eat here are the things served by the deli such as pasties, pies or sandwiches. I made a special effort to meet my daughter here for brunch but no, not a slice of bacon in sight! Apart from raw in the butchery…! This is an amazing shop, but as cafés go, you can do much much better

The cafe is disgusting. More food on the floor than tables. Tables not disinfected after use.The pasty served was hard to use with a knife and fork and came with a burnt underside. Very poor quality uncomfortable seats. Will not return.

We visited shop today. Cafe currently closed. We visit fairly regularly. Excellent selection. Friendly staff and a great Deli. What put us off today was the fact that although not crowded we noticed at least 4 customers not wearing a mask.? Now they may be all exempt. But we didnt see any of them wearing a landyard. There is a large sign at the entrance regarding wearing a mask in the shop. Thought it was Mandatory. We wernt happy and cut short our shopping. Such a shame. We were there approx 2pm.

This was the first shop we’d been in since lockdown. The three female assistants ignored us when we went it. When we asked for coffees they grunted and then carried on talking about a recent charity shop purchase. They then made us coffee. Not once did they engage with us, smile or make small talk. It left me feeling unloved and unwanted. Subsequent visits to shops all up the high street were great. Everyone chatted snd made us welcome. Come on Riverford you need to teach better customer service - and fast!

Always been a fan of the area and bought regular produce from pipa pick your own round the corner. Had a leek, apple and pork pie. Probably one of the best pies I've tried. Came served with a side of mixed salad. Sounds very basic but was just enough to accompany the food. The farm shop has just the best produce devon has to offer. Keep up the good work!

Went for lunch on a Sunday having never been here before. Turned up at 1.30pm to be told they weren't serving any meals as they were having to shut the kitchen for a while to 'catch up'. Surely they should expect it to be reasonably busy and plan accordingly. Decided not to stay and went somewhere else. If this is the level of things to expect from here then I will not be returning.

Have visited here many times for breakfast, firstly when it was called Riverford and subsequently when it became 'Ben's Farm Shop' (but still part of the same empire I believe). Last visit, some time ago, saw reduced breakfast portions compared to previous visits. Thought it was a one off perhaps....but no. Visited again on Saturday 23rd Feb 2019 and food portions are noticeably smaller than they used to be. I ordered beans with sourdough toast and spinach, with a side of bacon (as an extra). Toast did not look like sourdough, the beans were a tiny portion, comprising mainly sauce and very few beans, along with a barely visible 'eye' of bacon. Did not realise until I looked at the menu again and after I had eaten everything, that the spinach was not actually served with the dish, as stated on the menu. Likewise, husbands mushrooms on toast were a mean portion. I know prices have increased generally, but I would rather have a proper sized breakfast at the real cost; not a smaller mean portion at the 'old' price, to make it look like the establishment has held it prices. The portions barley kept us full to lunchtime. What a shame. Will move on down the road a few miles to the Green Table at Dartington next time I'm in the area and see how they fare. Sorry Ben's but you are no longer worth a vist for breakfast.

Stumbled upon this place as Dartington was choka. The staff are great here I will add. For lunch we had, Tomato and Basil soup, Steak pasty ( which was my personal favourite ), Caramel slice and a Brownie. All was tasty and left us happy and full up afterwards. I would really recommend the Steak Pasty, it was fill to the brim and delicious. Around the shop you can find all sorts of foods, drinks and alcohol to choose from. I will add however it is a little pricey and some items you can find a lot cheaper in Supermarkets. Great place to eat and will be returning for lunch.

We visited with our two young children. My husband had a burger which he said was delicious. I chose the bruschetta which was ok but had gone a bit soggy (accompanying beetroot and chilli houmous delicious though!) Our two boys had a sausage sandwich and a cheese sandwich which were fine but rather overpriced for what they were. Ok food but not great value for money.

This was our favourite meal that we had in Devon (and we had quite a few!) as it was a new experience and very enjoyable. We came for lunch (booking is essential, you can't just turn up) and joined some lovely people at one of the big tables so lunch was very jolly and great fun. Food is served promptly on sharing platters so don't be late or you'll miss out! There seemed to be endless platters brought to the table and these consisted of the most delicious and superbly prepared vegetables, wonderful meat (we had beef ragu - yummy!) and sourdough bread which was to die for. Just when you thought you couldn't eat another morsel, they invite you to choose your puddings (either one big portion or a choice of two smaller portions) and the choice and quality on offer was on another level. The ambiance is relaxed with a rustic feel; pretty bunches of herbs and dried flowers decorate the walls. The staff were very friendly and efficient so it was a perfect lunch. I was so impressed by the inventiveness in the cooking of the vegetables that I bought one of their many cookbooks so I too could have a bit of Riverford in my home cooking!

I’ve been using the café at Ben’s Farm Shop at Staverton quite a bit recently and I love it. Fine dining it definitely isn’t but it’s a café in a brilliant farm shop – not a Michelin starred restaurant. The coffee is great and, although the timing can be a bit iffy, the breakfast is excellent. Where else can you get sausages, dry cure bacon. black and hogs pudding made at the butcher’s counter fifteen metres away? I don’t take much notice of the lunch menu and just ask them to make me a mezze plate of the salads, dips, antipasti, empanadas and falafels they sell form the deli counter and it never fails to hit the spot. Maybe not 100/100 but definitely five stars.

Mushrooms on toast cooked in butter are delicious for breakfast and they make very good coffee. Other breakfast items are a bit hit and miss and the soup can be bland. The organic selling point needs vigilance because it only pertains to some of the stock. The local organic vegetables you can by when you sup in the cafe are often excellent.

I always loved Riverford's cafe, but since it became Ben's, something has happened to portion sizes - and they've not got bigger! In my last few visits I've had a tiny breakfast sausage, and a bacon bap with hardly any bacon in. You might think these were anomolies, but the tray cakes have shrunk! which is obviously no accident. The quality and service are still good, but this farm shop must be making a good profit, so it's a shame that the cafe has been subjected to cost-cutting and efficiency measures.

It's not really hard to discover this place. But, we did so by accident. You won't find it listed on the main Riverford Organics website (strangely). They do have their own site though and if you're looking for a cuppa and a cake amongst the plethora of other wonderful organic and freshly made produce. Then this is the place.Plenty of parking, an indoor and outdoor seating area and a varied menu. And that's without the exploration of the shop. It's not just the fruit and veg (worth it if it was) but also the meat, wine, bread and other goods. Enough to keep you busy for an hour or so. Sit down and enjoy the café. Ask loads of questions as everyone understands the provenance of whatever it is you're buying. If you want an indulgent brownie (served hot with their own clotted cream). This is the place to get it. A great find for the shop but the cafe is wonderful too. The icing on the cake is a passionate and knowledgeable team who make it an experience more than a chore.

We recently paused home delivery of the Riverford Vegetable Box scheme which we had used since its inception in the Plymouth area. The problem was partly that it was just that little bit too expensive, because they insisted delivering on a Tuesday when a working family with children or elders needs the delivery on a Friday, and finally because despite an overly complicated online system of varying contents, quantity and price, all had to be done too soon to dovetail with everyday household life. That aside we are still drawn mesmerically to the Riverford ethos and product, so that we occasionally get tempted into the farm shop at Brixton but more often the shop at Staverton. They do have a wide choice including some tasty and useful unusual items, you can get large bags of flour (sometimes on a phoned order in advance), the meat section is excellent, it's good to be able to buy large bits of smoked back bacon for home slicing. BUT these days you have to brace yourselves for the bill at the checkout. It's no wonder we also make frequent and wholly satisfying trips to Aldi and get home deliveries from Waitroses!

The staff are not engaged with the customer AT ALL, and find you generally a bloody nuisance. The place is dark and needs a good clean. It's expensive and actually not great quality. Another thing - I'm over charged every time I go there. You never get an itemised receipt so you get even more patronised when you question the bill - I was over charged by £3.80 today. Arrived at the pumpkin day to be told by various members of the parking attendants to park in numerous spaces. When we eventually parked in a appropriate space that we were told to park in we was then asked yet again to move so that a car could park next to us. The space next to us was only big enough to put a motorcycle and the car on the other side was a motor home which you could clearly see had a wheel chair in. When I explained these points to the attendant I was boldly told that it would depend on the experience of the driver and the size of the car!! At this point we then left with no apology.

A fine farm shop, but very poor cafe organisation. We ordered four coffees and wanted a soft drink as well. You'd think they could have some chilled juices etc at the cafe counter? No - we were asked to go and fetch them from the shop ourselves!! The coffees didn't arrive at the filthy uncleaned bench tables outside and so after 15 minutes we complained and they took ANOTHER 10 minutes - one cup without a saucer and two 'Americanos' without milk. Outstandingly shambolic. At least they gave us a couple of complimentary cakes as compensation - but the experience was ruined by then. In fairness I think the cafe and coffee counter is a new addition - they need to get it sorted soon or it will affect the reputation of the shop as well.

The name 'Riverford' evokes good standards and produce. A light lunch at the cafe today was a tremendous disappointment. The staff were untrained and the venue unattractive. The dish of the day wasn't 'on' although written on the board (and it remained there) The staff looked at us like we were stupid when we asked for it. Other choices were limited to baps, burgers and the ubiquitous pasty - the accompanying salad was some grated carrot and a grey looking coleslaw - oh, and a tiny bit of lettuce. The service was slow and staff uninterested (20 mins to get our food which required no cooking just heating and assembling - and they weren't busy). No-one cleared the tables let alone washed them down inbetween customers. They left a rusty supermarket trolley in the room all the time we were there - it is probably still there. The little seating area is boring beyond belief with bare pine walls and dying plants. Altogether quite a miserable experience. It didn't bode well for the shop. We were not impressed with that either - not a lot of genuine Rvierford produce (leeks from France) so we shopped at our own farm shop on the way home - much better and cheaper. We won't be back.

The girl serving us was pleasant enough but had no idea what came with each meal. When we did get our food the portions were so mean and the food was terrible. I had a falafel which was the driest thing to ever pass my lips, the dolmades were pretty bad and my husband's pie was not warmed up and tasted awful. Even the deli salad (what there was of it) was really substandard. Food was very poor, did not taste at all fresh and was not cheap. We were very disappointed, still hungry and frankly would have been better off buying these items from a supermarket chain! Would recommend people avoid this place for the cafe section - we did not hang around long enough to sample any of the other produce.

I would say I am a regular here for picking up breads and deli items and we have eaten here before. Sadly today when stopping off for a bite on the run I had a bit of a bad experience! I ordered a sausage and egg bap at the deli to takeaway, after returning to the car and driving away I pulled over the other side of Totnes to eat and found the sausages inside the bap were not cooked through and pink in the middle, this resulted in the dog getting lucky and me having an egg bap for lunch! Bit of a shock as although expensive at times this is usually a get what you pay for experience! As a farm shop though its worth a visit!

Not to be confused with the excellent, but different Riverford Field Kitchen, the Cafe is the latest addition to the original Riverford Farm Shop (Turn left just before the Riverford Bridge N of Totnes)The "Photographer's Assistant" had a traumatic 30 minutes in the dentist's chair so needed retail and food therapy. I whisked her to Riverford and plonked her down at the central table in front of the Deli/Cafe counter. 2 Americanos and an organic bacon & egg buttie later she was restored. I had a warm sourdough bruscetta positively brimming with olives and antipasta which was great. (and only £1.50) We bought 2 slices of irresistable banana cake, drenched in chocolate with a cream filling to take home for our tea. Brilliant.Fully revitalised we indulged in the shop; while the "assistant" concentrated on magnificent russets & sourdough etc I plundered the butcher's counter for pigeon breasts, pancetta and ham hocks. Not the sort of fare you can get just anywhere.Slightly off the beaten track, but much more convenient all said & done than a town centre the Farm Shop should be a standard stop off when travelling down the A38 past Ashburton or going anywhere near Totnes

Lovely food, classic pub grub but done well and reasonably priced. Liver was excellently cooked, slightly pink and soft and packed full of flavour. Service was good, we were checked back on, meals came promptly and cleared when finished. Nice cold wine and kids meals substantial for the price! Only marked down one star as bar is always busy (not a bad thing), but just makes it sometimes awkward leaning over drinkers to order food. However, always highly recommended for both food and drinks.

We came for Sunday carvery when we visited Dawlish. The food was good, although the beef was a bit chewy. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Service was quick and friendly and the Covid-19 set up was good. We would return if we came back to the area.

Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

Sorry to say the service levels are not what they used to be. A welcoming smile would be nice.

It's a pretty standard coffee shop, nothing particularly remarkable about it but the staff are reasonably friendly and service is usually fast. However it is very busy and noisy! I've always enjoyed the drinks here, although the coffee is pretty average and you can definitely get better tasting drinks elsewhere. Whenever I've sat in though, there has been a constant stream of people that come in just to use the toilet and then walk out leaving the door open (and sometimes shaking their wet hands all over the place), so there is a bit of a smell. It's not really the fault of the store but it is off-putting.
