River House Restaurant in Stirling

My friends and I arrived at the Stirling bus stop and decided to get a coffee at River House before heading to Stirling City Center. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best experience. Not one single personnel smiled the entire time; also, we had asked coffee "to go," and all three orders came wrong (in mugs) and were not tasting very good 😕.

Service was appalling, food was awful. Quality of food has gone downhill. No one interested in listening to constructive feedback. Would not recommend, a complete disappointment and waste of money.

Not been for a while and what a disappointment. Always have had the croque monsieir it was so poor. Guessing reheated as was solid and the flour not cooked out of the bechamel so gritty. My MIL couldn’t eat her chunky fries as they were hard. Fish was small and didn’t look good. Would find it difficult to go back, such a shame

The place is very pretty, but the food was below average. Clearly pre-cooked and heated in a micro wave, I had a fish “gratin” which was very light on fish. It took ages to pay as staff appeared busy even though it wasn’t busy.

Our extended family of 5 adults and 2 children (ages 9 & 6) enjoyed lunch here on Sunday afternoon in March. The restaurant is nicely decorated, open and spacious but somehow it seems a lot noisier than I remember from the old restaurant? Anyhow, service is efficient and friendly, though they missed one of our drinks with the initial order it was brought pretty quickly soon after. A wide variety on the menu and very generous starter portions making it great value for money. We enjoyed the Bon Bons, black pudding, skewers and pate starters, then fish n chips, burger, fish dishes and Japanese crispy chicken bao bun for mains. Too full for dessert. Shame kids pasta wasn't on par with rest of the food quality but their kids burger was decent. Overall an enjoyable meal with good service and at a fair price. Enjoy.

A group of 5 of us have been meeting up every 3 months or so for a get together as the restaurant is well placed for folk coming from Fife and the central belt. Todays meal was disapointing for 4 of the 5 of us. 3 of us had the main course Shetland Mussels. Mussels tasted ok, but the sauce was very disappounting. Looked like the mussels had been cooked,(but couldnt taste the white wine or see the shallots or the soft herbs) put into the dish and creme poured over. Not at all what we would expect from a mussel dish. The beef burger also disappointed. The restaurant looks beautiful and is in a lovely setting. The young staff do their best, but looked to be overstretched. Our general feeling was that the menu was much too large and the place would be better to concentrate on a smaller, better cooked menu. Sadly we have descided not to return.

First of this place is beautifully presented inside and out. It is a perfect location and the lighting inside is stunning. It creates a warm, romantic atmosphere. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. The food was lovely too.

We suddenly found this excellent restaurant on our way to Stirling Castle. We had a very good lunch with very good service. The food was excellent.

What can I say …. Reserved a table for 9 people, 2 days after booking and 3 days before going telephoned to change booking to 8 people, despite giving advance notice of the change they wouldn’t deduct the deposit from the bill. I’ve never come across this before ever! It tainted the evening and a shame as we won’t be going back. This aside, the service was excellent and our waitress very attentive. Food was mixed, fish and chips cold, chips inedible, steak excellent, desserts delicious. In this day and age not the way to treat customers - all this for £10

The food was pretty good but let down by the drinks menu and barman. The "classic" mai tai was very sad served in a hurricane glass literally the only way the bar could get it to fill the glass is making it half water. I then decided to see if they could make a daiquiri cause how can you mess u up a three ingredient drink but apparently the barman can't squeeze a lime cause he came to the table to say he didn't have any lime syrup (why even), we ended up with a strawberry one which was frozen not what I ordered and it tasted pretty bland. If the barman is just following the managements direction fair enough not his fault but if the menu is plastering "classic" over everything they should make thier drinks properly not serve diluted and bland drinks at a premium

Place to avoid. We visited the restaurant and as one of our guests out of five could not make it we lost their £10 deposit. JANUARY when many places are very quiet we lost this as it’s restaurant policy. Well guess what, neither the four that visited not the other will not be back

Wonderful venue and wonderful food. Spoiled a bit by the conduct of the barman who scratched his head, wiped his nose with his hand, and repeatedly added lemon slices to drinks with his bare hands.

Fabulous staff and fabulous food , The River House never fails to deliver , whether it’s a coffee and a breakfast roll or a bit of lunch which we’ve had so many times however tonight we had a dinner treat , our 5year old loves it and calls it The River Cafe , and so do we the Steaks were superb and the Birra Morretti was crisp and smooth! 5 out of 5 keep it up guys. The location and the design of the place is fab, very pretty views while you sit and eat. However, unfortunately we really didn’t like our burgers at all, upsetting as my boyfriend had the wagyu one at £25! When we decided to politely mention it to a waiter who brought the bill at the end, she was quite rude and short with us, the conversation ending in her walking off very dismissively. The service throughout was quite poor, and didn’t match the expectations that come with the prices. This was a shame as it was valentine’s day and we were keen for a lovely dinner out.

Every time I go for a lunch or dinner it's always really nice, the staff are so friendly. The decor is beautiful giving the place a lovely atmosphere. Food is first class, good choice on the menu for vegetarians as well...

Our lunch was nice but I feel it was very pricey for a basic lunch. £17 for a burger & chips + £2.50 to add cheese. Total bill was not short of £50 for 2 mains, I had water & my husband had a coke.

We’ve been to The River House a few times and every time, including this visit the professional and friendly staff are always one of the main plus points. Mostly young adults but all doing a great job. The food choice and quality is excellent, from lighter meals to half lobster and everything in between, including burgers and fajitas. The decor is beautiful with the added bonus of the large pond, clearly visible from virtually every table…… just watch out for the crocodile….. or is it an alligator???

First off, this has to be one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been to. At night, with all the illumination - it's breathtaking. There was a warm atmosphere all around, which paired well with the staff's attentiveness. Any requests were handled promptly, and the food was exceptional. Meal for 2 £140 We visited the Riverhouse for 1st time yesterday as we had been gifted as a wedding present. We are foster parents and do often get out on our own. The restaurant is lovely as were the cocktails unfortunately service was very slow and food wasnt good. We had steaks which we asked for medium/ rare when arrived they looked, as I said 'crispy'. Overcooked on outside not so in middle but tough & chewy. I first thought be polite and say its ok. When waiter can to collect plates I did tell him who said he would tell the chef. Next time I will cook our own steaks. Sorry but we were very disappointed and wouldnt recommend.

Lovely meal for my husband's birthday. A great choice of venue. The Christmas lights were spectacular!

We visited on the 4th January and loved The River House. The menu was diverse with plenty options, and everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. For starters we had Scallops and Praws. Both dishes were presented nicely and tasted brilliant. For mains we had the Wagyu Burger and the Ribeye steak. Again, both massively exceeded expectations. Both were presented nicely with accompaniments that complimented the food well. The service was top class. Attentive and friendly staff ensured a pleasant experience. The atmosphere inside and outside is also really nice. The restaurant is well decorated and maintained, and there is lots of space between tables. The seating arangements are also very comfortable. It is a very pleasant place to dine. Note we had just come from one of Scotland's top 5 star hotels at Loch Lomond, and stopped at River House on our way home. The food and service experienced at River House was of a far higher standard than what we had just experienced while staying at the 5 Star Hotel. Thanks to all at the River House for a fantastic meal and a really nice evening overall.

Location and restaurant absolutely beautifully. I have went for Christmas dinner on 23rd December 2023. The staff were very friendly. Restaurant was very clean. Disappointed with food, as christmas dinner food has no flavour at all. Coffee needs improvement. Don’t think I’ll be ordering any coffee any time soon. The only dish I was happy with was my starter. I was also disappointed as one off staff started hovering next to my table. I was disappointed with the noise. I’ll go back for a small lunch. I don’t think I will return for dinner.

They make a real effort at Christmas, lots of decorations, the place looks stunning. Service is good, food is ok but expensive for what it is. At Christmas you are paying for the venue and how it's presented.

Came here for New Year’s Day lunch, the special meal was really good roast beef, service friendly however we ordered the seafood platter for two and it was tasteless and really disappointing, they were out of mussels and scallops and added extra prawns and deep fried calamari worst 70 pounds I’ve ever spent! This restaurant has good reviews in the past… especially for seafood but I expect much more. When we complained they said they were sorry and would tell the chef. I hope this feedback does get passed on as the ambience, staff and everything else were very good.

The staff were miserable, threw down our cutlery, no smiles at all, the food was very poor in my opinion for the price is was, our steaks were chewy, chips were horrible, for a festive menu felt like you were just given the off cuts and left overs that were heated up. We won’t be back.

Disappointed not to have correct first name on confirmation email Waited 30mins for our booked table.No one came and asked us if we wanted a drink.Starters were cold..main and dessert delicious. Visited a few times with my family and the quality of food and restaurant are first class - would recommend to anyone. Worth the trip from Glasgow too.

We had Afternoon Tea here and sandwiches were fresh and tasty. Scones were very dry though. We werent given butter or Jam for our scones but after asking for it, they happily supplied it. Nobody came near us again once we had received our Afternoon Tea to ask if we needed more tea or more drinks in general which was disappointing. Place is beautifully decorated though and warm and cosy.

Went in today for an early dinner for 3... we were shown to a nice table at the window overlooking the water... we were then ignored by the waiting staff who seemed to find us completely invisible... waited patiently for another 10mins then got up and left, the waiting staff noticed this but made no effort to attend to us... Drove down the road 10mins and enjoyed a lovely meal with great service at The Coachman in Kilsyth. Pity, nice looking place, but plagued it seems with totally incompetent, uninterested, and apparently undertrained, waiting staff. The 1 out of 5 service review was for the member of staff who managed to show us to the table...

I was very disappointed as my family spent a lot of money to give us a special day for our golden wedding

We visited here, despite the reviews regarding the staff, a couple of the staff let it down. however upon arrival I was greeted nicely and placed to a table of my choice. Our server Jake was outstanding, very attentive and always smiling, he's clearly an asset to this restaurant. he made us at ease, the food was divine. Sat 21/10/23 enjoyed the curry soup but a bit too dear & the wee type of roll was a wee bit tough but the butter was not hard but soft enough to spread on it 👍 My main course was beef lasanya & it came piping hot🔥 👍 & the garlick bread was very nice even though it was only toasted on the one side BUT as u can see the small tub of lettuce 🥬 etc.. was the bits that can stick in one's throat, so i just picked out the other items of food that accompanied it & ate them. It would have been nice of the waiter if he had asked me if i wanted some parmesan cheese sprinkled over it, but my friend Janie said "you only get that in an Italian restaurant" but they were great full enough to bring me a small bowl of it for me to help myself from it. Oh!! before I forget- I had to ask as to where my lattie was? & a waitress went & fetched it & my friend once again spoke up & said "you better taste it incase it's not hot enough" which i did & it was only WARM - reason being - it had been sat out for 5mins before i got it, so she took it away & brought me a fresh hot one icl. another wee chocolate with it. But despite all that - it's certainly worth a visit & I will pop back in again in the future.
